This bike hits the sweet spot for me, a 46 year old who learnt how to ride on a 1979 Bullet. So, it is kind of coming full circle. If I buy it, it will be as a heirloom that I will pass on to my daughter (BTW, the 1979 350 is still there in the family). Also, I love parallel twin engines and have been a fan of both the Yezdi 350 twin and the RD350. I almost went for a Triumph some time ago, but this one gives me pride in more ways than one. I hope I will be able to get one soon and enjoy years of beautiful motoring. Thank you for the fantastic review Kartikeya Singhee!
I put my money where my opinion is .... I bought an Interceptor in Ravishing Red. AND I LOVE IT. I am 71, retired, have ridden most of my life. My Interceptor is all the bike I will ever need until they send me to the drooling academy for senile old farts. It handles better than a Triumph, has GREAT brakes, is nimble in the twisties, great around town, and can cruise on the freeway at 75mph all day long with ample power in reserve for passing. And it looks FANTASTIC, just like the big twins I lusted after in my youth. It is good for every-day use as well as touring. I do not need a crotch rocket. I need a practical bike. It may be a second or second and a half slower than some from zero to 60 but who gives a rip. It has plenty of get up and GO to put a grin on my face. My one and only nit is that finding alloy wheels to run tubeless tires is next to impossible ... but I found some. www.dropbox.com/s/drye7pgx9c0ypnn/RE%20TUBELESS%20WHEELS%20INFO.docx?dl=0 You may think they are butt-ugly, but when you think about crawling around in the dirt for two hours to swap out a punctured tube 100 miles from nowhere with no cell service all of a sudden they look beautiful.
Back in the late 60's here in the USA, THE bikes to have and lust after were the big twins ... Triumph, BSA, Norton, Royal Enfield ... all English bikes. Back then the big Harleys were for old codgers. I couldn't afford one back then. Years later I had a BSA 441 Victor and loved that little bike. Since then I have owned Harley 74 CI Panhead, Yamaha 850 triple, BMW 1150 RT and have ridden many others. The Yamaha triple was a great bike and I rode the shit out of it in Phoenix for years. Later I got the BMW 1150 RT and it was a great bike too but it had a habit of going about 40 mph faster than you thought you were going and it ended up damned near killing my ass because of that ... hit pea gravel in a corner, left the highway at 90mph, the bike flipped 14 times according to a witness and looked like the Jolly Green Giant crumpled up a beer can and the doctors spent 14 hours in surgery prying my right leg out of my left arm pit (a little poetic license there, but I was busted up pretty bad) ... I DON'T NEED another bike like that! My Interceptor fully satisfies my youthful lust for a big twin in all ways and is the perfect bike for this old fart.

Wonderful presentation sir! I love classic motorcycles but I want them newish and trouble free! That's how my "radar" cought Interceptor 2 years ago, while it was under development, immediately I fell in love with the timeless looks and the hole idea of designing an engine from scratch but with the eyes firmly set to the past and the ties of the company with its heritage! I couldn't wait all the way though and I got myself a lovely Guzzi v7 III! Hope this one will be a hit though, cause it is made with love and with a vision for a wonderful future for the brand! I will even dare a prediction about its reliability! It will not be a new Himalyia, production was held back for so long to extend its testing and fine tuning so much that I am certain that it will be a first class motorcycle that will pass every quality check from the start! Your last comment on ''Should you buy it ?', you simply nailed it. I am a person who appreciates the versatility of an ADV bike especially when it comes to touring, but before 2016, we never really had an option in the budget end. When I first heard about RE developing an ADV bike for the lower segment, it was a dream come true. I kept waiting with patience and it finally arrived in 2016..the Himalayan. Couple that with the impressive ads, launch and the media reviews, I without a hiccup fell for it.. my first bike. But that joy was short lived. I had a hint of feeling, since this bike being something radically new than what RE has usually tried before, there could be issues. And there were, plenty of them. But what really frustrated me was the pathetic customer back up. The service mechanics had no clue of what was wrong with the bike. They were just capable of performing the usual maintenance and nothing more. They were simply not trained properly. Worst of all, it took RE almost a year to come with solutions for some issues and those too aren't reliable, which makes me wonder, the few clips of the Himalayan being tested that were uploaded by RE, shown during media launch and boasting by the CEO that the bike has been tested for thousands of kms..was it really done or just a marketing gimmick ! So back to the Interceptor..yes, the bike looks classy, feels good, excellent pricing (VFM), great marketing again, but, above all, I hope they have learned their lesson from the Himalayan, because, here a great deal of money is involved. For me, the bike for sure is tempting, but this time, I am in no hurry..I will wait, see how the market responds, get hold of customer feedback and then make a decision. Never again am I trusting anything new from RE blindly. Simply lost respect for the brand and quite aptly...that's when another icon makes a come back...my father owned once one of those...kudos to Mahindra !
I've booked my interceptor today....but still my fingers crossed about the quality and after sales services.... wish me luck this time and happy new year to all
I live in the UK, ride a Yamaha MT10SP but I find myself really wanting a Interceptor 650 one in the Baker Express colour as a second bike, which I’ve never had before. I really liked this review it was honest and showed the faults as well as the positives. I’m saving up right now 🙏🏻.
I ride a Vulcan S and with a few modifications its a great bike, though having said I really like the Intercepter, power numbers on paper are good and am sure 0 to 100 can be improved by another rider. Perfect design all over including both head light and instrument cluster, air cooled less fuss....I GET IT and I may need a new second bike to keep my Vulcan company, great review!
having already owned 2 Bonneville 650's in the past, this bike is appealing, but the small tank is a deal breaker wont make it over too many of my favorite roads, hopefully the Himalayan will be better as dual purpose is what I want due to themany fantastic gravel roads here

Hello from Canada! I'll be the first owner of the Interceptor 650 in Ravishing Red here in Canada, and cannot wait to get my hands on it later this month. I traded in my RE Classic 500, as I found there were a lot of warranty issues and the build quality was not great. This bike however, from all of the reviews I've read and the shows I've been to where I've been able to see it in person, it is heads-and-tails above previous REs. As a fan of REs from my time travelling on business to India, I'm excited to get going on it and be able to post my own review this summer.
@@sibasisrout1576 jawa may cost more than 2L going by mojo pricing, and it will straight walk into the 650 twins. If this twin delivers (unlike Himalayan) at this price, RE will own the 300-700cc segment merged into one.

well it certainly does look very promising.. hoping that re has learnt some tough lessons from Himalayan and have taken extra care in putting together these two new offerings.. brilliant review as usual karthikeya..
Hi Singhee Your introduction of the interceptor was so entertaining through out the 16 minutes. I really enjoyed it all, especially the vibration test with the tea cup on the tank. I'm looking forward after a six months booking time and a few days more to hit the road with an all new RE. (good things can wait😉)
Went on my (Sep 2015) Duke 390 to do 15 minute test rides of each RE 650 version today. Took a friend along to get another opinion. PROS: Lovely (un-Duke) sound, very Un-RE (i.e "good") finish, decent (not outstanding) brakes. CONS: Suspension that's comfortable (i.e.un-Duke) until 100 kmph in a straight line, made the bikes wobbly above 80-90 kmph on sweeping, smooth-surfaced curves. Wanted to check the effect of adding a pillion and luggage, and on bad roads as well, but was asked to wait until local dealers get demo bikes next week. Overall - Can't expect more at INR 3 lakhs on road. But the same is true of the 2018 Duke 390 - a far more refined, comfortable bike than mine, handles, accelerates and brakes better than either RE 650, and fits in the load bed of my VCross with the tailgate shut. Got to leave the tailgate open with the RE's...a dicey proposition unless I can find a rear-view camera that can adjust for tail-gate open and tailgate shut situations. LONG TERM QUALITY : KTM - no issues barring two head gaskets replaced under warranty within the first 2 months, and Metzeler rear tyres that are gone in 6000 km. RE (The brand, not necessarily the 650 product) : ????. Comparisons with any new bike over INR 3 lakh, IMHO, are meaningless...unless one looks (and sensibly so) at used 650 + cc Kawasakis, Triumphs etc.
Maaan, what a pricing for a 650cc bike from Royal Enfield interceptor and Continental GT.😮😮😮😮😮😮. Anyone who want to buy a 300cc bike, just go for the interceptor 650, because it cost similar to a 300cc bike😂😂😂
exciting definitely, The interceptor is the bike to go for if you want to buy into the new RE ERA. however, we should wait for the first lot to roll out on the streets and see how they play in a real life scenario.
It seems to vibrate whole lot less than dominant. I own a fz25 and test rode ns200 and dominate they both were shaking as fuck compared to fz25. Now I’m gonna buy this beast
Great enthusiastic and honest review. I hope it does well here in the UK as RE seem to have put a lot of effort into the finished product. As for a 650 Himalayan, that will be a great idea especially if they use this engine with swept up exhaust, providing of course there are no mechanical problems that have yet to surface 👍.
No vibration it's a very smooth crusher classic premium bike and 2:50 ex-showroom price it's a killed every bike company campare in this price it's a dainasur ab dominar nhi sirf or sirf dainasur India me naam kamayega it's love you royal Enfield I am really proud of your work on interceptor 650 becoz in this bike you give everything it's a India classic premium crusher monster
I was justing getting tempted to comment this while watching the video. 'This is the happiest review I have ever watched from Zigwheels'. This video spoke its heart out about the bike crystally clear. keep up the good work. Cheers.
Wow! I'm impressed. Didn't expect this, definitely not at that price. Quality! Is a question we are still looking at. Yet, I wouldn't go for it. I'm not 75 YO yet xD
Liked?? I am still picking my jaw from the floor after seeing the pricing. I expected it to start at atleast 30-40k more ex-showroom. Royal Enfield pulled a fast one. If I had the money I would probably book one right away (P.S. i am very impulsive in nature) also cuz I own a GT535 and know what owning a RE can be. Apart from the shoddy parts that were used, the only downside was the engine. The Chassis, brakes, handling all are just brilliant on my bike and this addresses the engine and part quality. So to answer the question, Yes i would certainly buy it IF i had the money. Now about the reviews, @Zigwheels reviews are only getting better and better everyday and Karthikeya covered all the questions I had and more. One question though, does the seat and suspension rating(in interest of the lovely roads we have here) differ compared to Markets overseas?
@@zigwheels probably that was on the test bike when someone else who had reviewed it said the seat was a bit harder than expected, or was it the GT650, dont really recall that part

Great review that answers all relevant queries and then some more. I tested the interceptor at RE dealership a week ago. The bike is heavier and larger than what you expect from online photos and videos. Rather I will say that this bike does not conceal its weight, rather makes it more apparent. The attention to detail and build quality is great (made like a gun). But with a height of 5.8”, I was not able to rest my feet fully on the ground. And with the weight of this bike, tilting straight from side stand, parking or moving in a stop go traffic might be a task for many riders. The ideal saddle height for Indian riders should not be above 750mm (while interceptor’s is 804 mm). For comparison, Avenger saddle height is 725mm, while many cruisers like HD or triumph speed master are even lower. I believe RE should have given lower seat height. Jawa comparison: It is untrue to say that interceptor and Jawa are not competitors. Folks who want good build quality with neo-retro feel will obviously consider Jawa. 300 cc Jawa engine is not bad, plus the asking price of Jawa (1.1 lacs lesser than interceptor) is like icing on the cake.
really really beautiful motorcycle in my opinion.. it's simple.. it's timeless.. ( at least in my taste ) ... no unnecessary garnish.. kind of motorcycle that i'll take care till my old days.. thanks for the review.. forget all the technical aspect.. i just fall in love at the first time with interceptor 650.. i am an interior designer and architect which mostly complain about detail bla bla bla etc... but this one.. i have no complain.. at all..

Himalayan 550 will be of my interest... But this is an awesome bike.... I wanted to buy either a Himalayan or an Interceptor, but then its a heart vs mind decision I have to take, Himalayan is the bike suits my riding style, considering most of the times I am on the himalayas... We want tubeless tyres....hit like if ur agree
you can't get tubeless on spoked wheels might have change to alloys once they are available
Tyres are tubeless but rims are not
@@tonyh4233 Making a Wire Spoked Rim for Tubeless tyres are more costly like the Triumph Bonneville. If you change it to alloys, it's cheaper and better for Tubeless tyres.
tubeless tires won't work with spoke wheels..you need to swap to alloys for that....but it will ruin the look of the bike!
The Pirelli phantoms in INT650s are TUBELESS ONLY since spokes doesn't support they have added tube. I chexked personally. An alloy will be added accessories.

If you are coming to India I suggest you to do a Road trip in Himalayan mountains in Royal Enfield. You can easily find a rental one anywhere in city.

@@sibasisrout1576 jawa may cost more than 2L going by mojo pricing, and it will straight walk into the 650 twins. If this twin delivers (unlike Himalayan) at this price, RE will own the 300-700cc segment merged into one.

Single spec across the world. We found the seat to a bit soft, but RE does have optional seat which is slightly stiffer and better.
@@zigwheels probably that was on the test bike when someone else who had reviewed it said the seat was a bit harder than expected, or was it the GT650, dont really recall that part

Great review, not a RE fan, but this bike is turning my head!
Woah #price
