🏍 Royal Enfield Interceptor vs Triumph Street Twin which one better? Let Us Know Comments Section!
Triumph’s Street Twin has been one of their highest selling models in recent times. For 2019, the Brits have made it cooler and surprisingly, it is more affordable for India. Hence, it is the most affordable British twin available in India. Or is it? Because Royal Enfield went big with the Interceptor 650. It is already selling like hot cakes. Why shouldn’t it? We have longed for a big Enfield for decades and our wishes came true.
Royal Enfield made every single bikemaker sit up and take notice as it managed to price the Interceptor at a super accessible Rs 2.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. And even though the Street Twin is more affordable (by Rs 25,000 at Rs 7.45 lakh, ex-showroom India), it is still three times the amount of the Interceptor.
Both bikes come with a parallel-twin motor with a 270-degree crank. While the Enfield just has 648cc to play with, the Triumph offers 250 cee cees more. This obviously gives the Street Twin an advantage in the performance numbers, 65PS vs 47PS and more importantly, 80Nm vs 52Nm.

Bullu bhai what is Triumph's ideal service interval?
Ooo bullu bhai
Simple and sleek review bulu bhai😜😜😜😍
Hey, its Bulu bhai here.
These RE twins are going to be *huge* here in the US. Beautiful, modern, and inexpensive with a good warranty and free roadside assistance!
But the dealer network sucks.
@@HooDRidEWhiteY That is exactly the problem we have with the imported bikes here in India. The showrooms are all nice and swanky but the after sales network is terrible, not to mention the availability and costs of the spare parts. The only exception to this is Harley Davidson but my friend who owns a street 750 still complains a lot about the dealer network.

In india RE providing 3 years road side assist free of cost
They haven’t taken off as I thought they would.
The way you ordered coffee said it all. Triumph for the guy that wants it specific, Royal Enfield for the pragmatic man. Great video.
How? I mean what has specifics to do with Triumph? RE is equally refined/finished if not better.
No. I'd pick the RE. Here in Canada a new RE is less than a 5 year old Triumph and that bike wouldn't even have ABS brakes. It's a no brainer.
Great review guys.
Well done brother
Yeah, I had been considering a Street Twin for a while now, but the Interceptor 650 has me reconsidering. It's more of a true classic bike being air cooled and it just looks more mechanical, if that makes sense. Great for the budget too.
MSRP of the new Street Twin in Canada is $10,600. My local RE dealer is advertising an Interceptor at $7,975. While there is clearly a price difference it isn't the 3x suggested in the video. I think there is a big up charge in Canada for the RE.
@Cash Money ya... For foreign market their quality standards are higher than that of Indian.
@@nandakishorepradeep6678 That is very hard to believe. Are you claiming that Royal Enfield is purposely making an inferior version of the same bike. Knowing how global production works that makes no sense at all.
Just because made in chennai doesnt make it bad .
Right Bro it's well build😄
Indian bikes are sub par in terms of quality
@@geffreymanuel7032 The quality is excellent for the price we pay for Indian bikes.
Probably the point they wanted to convey is that the interceptor is more Indian and not British, they did not mean build quality in India is poor.

Absolutely gimmick of a review. Very disappointed with how these people think they are making Bollywood movie crap than a product analysis.

I personally feel when both folks ordered their respective choice of coffee, that sums up the difference between the bikes. Well done review.
Value for money- interceptor
But look at triumph, it's look like a work of art. Gorgeous.
I saw this video with my 3 y. o. kid. I paused the video when both the bikes could be seen parked in a single frame, and asked my kid which bike he wants. He yelled Orraange!!! Well some guys might comment "please grow up". But do we riders do really?

I want a Royal Enfield. But they need more dealers in the USA. Thanks for your video brother. God bless you.
Yes, USA Dealer network is abismal. I wanted to test ride one bad but went with a Yamaha instead because nearest RE dealer is 6 hours away.
I got lucky and my local HD dealership picked up the RE line, not a big fan of local yamaha/honda dealers
I never was a RE fan...but after HIMALAYAN. I am in love with RE.
I have a Himalayan and love riding it but it's build is of very poor quality. Hope the interceptor is better.

These bikes are not identical at all being honest

First part of your comment is hilarious. The second part is sensible.
No contest: With the Royal Enfield you get a proper tank badge.
the RE is my choice. It is authentic, affordable and has a stunning new engine. Well done RE.
I buy interceptor 650 and I'll spend extra 1 lakh for advanced modification.
Since it does not reach triumph, but I'll be happy with my modified interceptor.
Anyway interesting video...😍
Nice. Perhaps I would do the same if I lived in India. Nice choice.
Plus servicing is much cheaper for RE compared to triumph.
@@arindamsharma884 try some costly auxiliary lights like clear water lights it starts around 37k,then the seat change it will be around 7-10k,then some cosmetic updates and carriers like panniers or top boxes and so 1 l will be enough

As a new rider I looked at the triumph street twin initially as my first big bike but then when the RE 650 was released I was very tempted. Overall the RE is a better package for the price. Cheers from the UK. I have had my interceptor for about 2 months. Very pleased with it. Yes it could be improved. But its cheap so more money in the pot for mods. 👍🏼

Thanks mate, I am a newish rider too and was dreaming of the Street Twin but now that I discovered the Interceptor, it's more affordable so will probably go for it! Did you mount a luggage rack/panniers on yours? Is it easy to get parts in the UK?
The Triumph is made in Thailand, not Coventry, England.
Just assembling is made in Thailand not the making of the bike parts or design..

I was a Triumph rider back in the day, a few T120s and T140s, but I agree with the older gentleman, the RE is all round the better bike for everyday use
May better for city riding, not for riding out of town.
Helios Zig wheels...I’m commenting on someone’s behalf as I have not ridden this bike nor I possess it.
I’m gonna talk here about MY big cousin who is 59 now . He’s been riding since 1979. I’ve seen him riding from yezdi to rajdoot 350 and so on. His last bike was bonneville in 2016 . He has bought plenty of bike in last 40 years from intruder 1800 to hayabusa. He called me few days back and told that he bought interceptor and was prasing it so much, wat he said really impressed me as he told me that RE has done a great job , they made a bike which has all ingredients of a 10 lakh bike and made it available in India for less that 3 lakh. SIMPLY AMAZING RE...
Let me put it in a simple way -
If you have only one motorcycle in your garage, the RE Interceptor is the one for you. You can use it as cruiser, commuter and what not.
And, if you don't plan to take your bike to office or shopping, and you need the true motorcycling experience, go for the Triumph.
Yeah sure if you have to choose between the two and you have that kind of money to spend on a bike why wouldn't you but the street twin.. it's like saying instead of buying a Mercedes i am gonna buy a corolla. And if you are that concerned about commuting and going on shopping with these bike than better buy Activa or NTorq.
A matte black engine block, a brushed metal finish for the exhaust pipes and black alloys (overall less chrome) would drastically change the way the interceptor looks (read, make it more premium).
And I don't think the Bonneville is worth thrice as much as the interceptor.
Even if RE puts in all those features and more powerful engine that triumph has... am sure it would still not cost half it’s price... 1 or 2 years down the lane RE would definitely come up with such bikes. More over triumph is expensive because of the added import duties...(I think75%) . If the bike was priced at 6 lacks at least... it would definitely be a value for the money bike 🙂
Absolutely. The alloys alone would make a huge difference. The tyres would look much fatter (read better)
All I want is a black engine case ....there's just too much chrome for me 😖🤦♂️sadly no new 650 bikes till 2020 and I cant wait that long
true, I think RE is going to upgrade to DOHC coming years which will give more power and torque, plus bit more instruments and better silencer would make her best in class.
@@sathiadev6447 i feel re might feel for you
Interesting! 2 years after this review I find myself with this same choice but the price difference has narrowed considerably. In the UK a new RE Interceptor costs about £6,000 and a new, unused 2020 Street Twin can be found for £7,600. For sure the Street Twin is the better bike by any reasonable measurement but I find myself leaning towards the Interceptor. I recently sold my much loved Himalayan when forced to return home from the Middle East and I miss identifying with the Royal Enfield brand and riding with other Royal Enfield riders. Buying a bike is not always reasonable so having got this far writing this, I have made a decision. It's the Interceptor for me and I will spend the £1,600 saved riding around the country I left 23 years ago on a great Indian motorcycle.
For the price of the Triumph you could buy an Interceptor and a Himalayan and have plenty of change for modifications.
You just wanna say, u want to eat pizza but u will buy a sandwich and put some toppings over it, bake it, and buy a bread and put sause over it and eat it....and thats your pizza😂😂
@@himanshusinghdosad9853 your comment is more related to buying a cycle and a bike instead of a car.
@@27siddarth bro u will not understand....its all about passion people buy superbikes of 8-10lakh, even they can buy car or 6-7 bikes in that segment...afterall its all about personal choice or decision

100% RE interceptor .Reliability , performance value for money and it's more Indian that's more important than anything else
Man realiability !! i wish.. anyone who used a modern RE knows reliability is far off from it
@@mb4077 agreed. I really love the look of the RE but it is not reliable. Found it hard way.

The RE, hands down.
It even has more impressive roll on performance.

Guys, it's the first time that I write a comment here, although I've been watching your show for a while. I'm not pretty sure why, but your comments and comparisons make a lot of sense to me (maybe because I live in Brazil?). Your reasoning reminds me a lot of Fortnine channel (that's a compliment, BTW), and you manage to put some humor into it, which is a plus.
Congrats for your hard work, keep the videos coming!
Yes, ive watched Brazilian reviews too, I don't understand Portuguese but both India and Brazil have such similar bikes and roads. Incidentally, the Fortnine editor cum cinematographer (Aneesh Shivanekar) is also Indian, and from the same city these reviewers are in (Pune) .
Great review, thank you! Funny coffee order. Bought my Interceptor yesterday, baker express.
Matthias Müller favourite colour!
Nice video guys. One advice to RE (if they are reading the comments here), they should immediately modify their twin silencers in both 650 twins and make them look like like those on Triumph’s Street Twin. This will enhance the looks of the bikes for sure, those raised silencers don't go along with that flat seat and are not practical too.
The coffee order scene shows the simplicity of the Royal Enfield and the complexity of the triumph
In the US the Interceptor costs 6/10 the price of the Street Twin. if I could get an Interceptor for 1/3 the price of the Street Twin like you say in the video I would definitely take the interceptor..
I will wait till RE launches a fully blacked out version! Interceptor X maybe😜
That's going to be sold out before launch

@@dheerajduppalli1453 it will look cheap and shitty

THe w800 is really beautiful and a great bike, but you need to pay double!! of course if the pocket is not a problem go for it, but if it is then RE 650 is a great deal, probably the more equilibrated cost-quality in market (neoclassics)

Very, very good comparison! Congrats for the video, my brothers! The Interceptor and Continental GT will be soon arriving here in Brazil. They motorcycle market here is gonna be crazy !
This is probably among my favorite comparison review. Usually Zigwheels don't produce this type of review.
It's all about the heart. If the Interceptor puts a smile on your face while riding and makes you feel to not stop ever, then yeah go for it. If the Triumph (or any other bike, in general - from a Duke 125 to a BMW 1000RR) does it for you, then yeah it is your bike.
Specs only provide meaning upto a certain point. Its not the specs that revs your heart, but the actual riding part.
As Shumi once wrote, "Value for money goes away the moment you ride the bike out of the showroom".
What a great episode! You two are charming and informative. I live far from India but share your experience with Triumph motorcycles. We do have a local RE dealer and some day I want to check out their bikes. I currently enjoy riding a number of bikes including a 2007 Triumph Bonneville T100 and a 2014 Triumph Scrambler 900. I can agree that the Bonneville series are all really cool motorcycles.
How do they compare? Which one do you enjoy the most?
@@karmahunden Ahhh that is a good question! I can tell you that the 2007 Bonneville rides as good as it looks. Manual choke and old school manners don’t let the rider forget that this is a classic ride. The Scrambler 900 is a really good around town ride. Also featuring a manual choke though fuel injected. The style is the draw. A conversation anywhere you go. All in all I favor fuel injection and prefer the lower pipes of the Bonneville.
I just bought interceptor here in Vancouver BC excellence bike just love it. Just made a trip to Seattle on the highway it runs like a MAKHAN
I got RE650 last month. Amazing bike. Handles and brakes like a charm. Refinement is top notch. You guys are forgetting that Triumph accessories cost a bomb. I have added accessories worth 50k to my taste and comfort, high levels of customization options are available at very reasonable prices. The bike is a keeper and feels like it is built to last.
Considering the price and local availability of Mechanics, workshops, and spares ifs interceptor which has a edge
Exactly bro I have seen blogger having problems with triumph service, it's not just buying the bike aftermarket support is crucial
@@HemanthKumar-ws1xg yup they have to wait for week to even a month and it cost tons plus different things blah blah

Since I am not, I have to settle for the Interceptor.
For me, nothing beats the Triumph Bonneville range for modern classics..
RE650 vs Triumph Bonneville. 650 gets a thumbs up from me. Cost cutting is defined as simplicity. And old vintage bikes are meant to be simple. I would rather get a street triple then a Bonneville.
Cost cutting...
People are Happy with that...
Very good review! Here in South America, the Interceptor makes SO much sense. I've been enjoying my Interceptor for six months now, and couldn't be happier. I'll buy a Thruxton later on, but will keep the Interceptor.
How is it possible that Indian motorcycle reviews are this much better than US? Bravo, buddies!
Heart says Bonnie Head Says RE... But if I had the money it's Bonnie for sure..😎
one clever guy on youtube said: Brand conscious customers will never look at RE, budget conscious customers will never look at Triumphs.. It is those ‘In-betweeners’ who will lose sleep over which one to go for . Just do the right decision not to be sorry afterwards

Great comparison. RE is true value for money.
I'm getting my street Scrambler in another 10 days.. :) So NO no Interceptor. But I have to agree to the fact that RE is worth every penny that we pay. However, premium and high quality with proper tech like, slipper clutch, Brembo braking, cartridge fork set, modes of riding (Rain & road (Off road on scrambler)), increased power-65 BHP, 80 NM of Torque and built quality Triumph is any rider dream.
Good review guys, you nailed it.
Just saying but interceptor has a slipper clutch as well. Fi and abs and makes most power in that price range
What a great, balanced and thorough review of two beautiful bikes! You guys are really charming and easy to listen to and have really good genuine banter.
This video also makes me miss India, and particularly riding in India sooo much. I have great memories of riding a 50 year old Royal Enfield with the original iron cylinder 10 years ago around Rajasthan and also all the way down to Cochin! Although we put the bike on the train from Mumbai to Goa. Some very challenging times, but also good memories!
I love the mechanical simplicity, classic looks, and democratic price point of the RE, although being on the shorter side, if I had the money, the compact size and also beefy modern re-imagining of British classic would probably pip the post for me.
Thanks again and Jai Hind!
I'll take the RE, and RE gets that motorcycles should have analog dual clocks. They ALL should.
I have already made my choice. I went for the interceptor 650 Baker Express and it is a Stunner. And NO, the street twin is not three times the bike compared to the interceptor period.
I was waiting for this comparison for so long thank you Zigwheels👍

Interceptor 650 anytime. Street twin is acceptable only at maximum 5.00 lakh price.
I would still be Happy with a price tag of somewhere around 6-6.5 lakhs on road.... 9 lakhs is just absurdly high.

Guys! Very well done! This is the most entertaining and informative 'VS' video I have seen on the tube! Kudos!
Here in the USA Triumph does very well. I have owned two myself and they were comfortable reliable bikes. I think these new RE Indian bikes have a great opportunity here in the US. I am seriously considering a new Interceptor for my stable. BTW, I like this video “back and forth” I think it’s fun and entertaining while being informative. Cheers.
Royal Enfield is better looking and better value. Let's hope they build a bigger version soon.
They will soon launch 650 cruiser 😊😊😊😊
Who would have thought that one day we will be comparing RE Vs Triumph.... Good job RE
It’s not even a competition. It’s like comparing the Skoda kodiak to the BMW x3 cause both run a 2lt diesel making almost identical power.
The Interceptor with its 1/3 cost just makes a damm good case here and is a winner ...hands down. 👍🏻

Almost part-exchanged my Bonneville for an Interceptor a few weeks ago. But...I couldn't part with the Triumph. Good video, thanks!
I do what I want. I bought the RE. Sweet bike. I can't wait to hit the first service, and unlock the next level. Is the Triumph a better bike? A little, yes. Is it better enough to warrant the price difference?
Hahahahanooooo.
Hahaha!...unlock the next level...you do have a way with words.
I was dazzled by the triumphs suspension stability... Damn awesome
All cons of interceptor can be fixed by doing little bit mods.. alloy wheels 20K, hard seat pading 3K, preload adjustment around 1K during service and will not cost me 3 times...
So from me Big no to triumph Street tween
Can it be converted to tubeless tyres after getting alloy wheels installed?
If Interceptor had
Ride by wire
Traction Control
All Led setup
Tubeless tires
BS6
Alloy wheels....
It would be more value for money even if they increase price to about 50k😍😍😍
All these were avoided to keep it as an affordable upgrade for current and potential RE owners... May be that's why it has such a stunning price...

If I HV money I will go for Bonne for sure .. though interceptor make sense for Indian market .. I HV ridden interceptor and that's a fantastic bike from RE
Nice go at the concept of video. Especially the coffee order part. It worked as a metaphor of mindsets and comparisons. Very well made.
The bit about moving around got me. Nobody has done this and described the weight of the bikes as perfectly as you have! Brilliant!
I will buy two 650 instead of one street triple so lifetime extended twice of my bike.😁
the sensible choice here is the 650 ... but if am putting my hard earned money on one of these it would be the Street Twin simply because having ridden both the bike I know the street twin will ride and feel the same 6years later.
Credits to RE for making such a beautiful package affordable but Triumph is still way up the ladder.
DukerBoy No bike rides the same after so many years(you have really used it well). You should see the other review videos...
very cool video guys, thank you! just had the opportunity to test the Interceptor and loved it right away! such a beautiful bike and soooo much fun to ride. I'd definitely go for the RE even though there is not that much difference in the price here in Europe!
I have been riding the Street Twin for a while now (turns 3 years old in Sep) and I have had a chance to ride the Interceptor last month. I think you get what you paid for with both. In the Triumph - the quality of materials (not a single rusty piece on my Street Twin after 3 years hard riding in coastal Kerala), the workmanship, the little details add to the feeling that you do have something special. It's also a breeze to ride in the city as well as the highways. Now coming to the RE, it's a fun bike no doubt. Pulls cleanly, looks awesome and rides like a charm (zero vibes/ great torque). However, there are jarring notes in the package. The ergonomics are flawed (Search the various forums around), it is unnecessarily heavy for a 650 and the quality of parts and workmanship leaves a lot to be desired. For example, the Interceptor I rode had visible rusting all over in what was essentially a 6-month-old bike. This does not detract from the riding experience for sure but for me, it does not feel special enough to buy. I am sure it will sell in great numbers in India and elsewhere but it does not tug at my heart as the triumph does. Just saying.
Interceptor bro
The look is 🔥
One allstar chuck,Levi's 501 stf, skull 💀Tshirt, wallet chain and a classic helmet will sure look cool on this yeah

The ride quality in triumph is out of this world
Enjoyed ur concept of demonstration. Great
great review , i have the triumph but if i was lucky enough to live in india i would prefer the RE
When you're buying a Mercedes, you don't think of buying 10 Honda Civics instead.
Premium comes at a price.

But riches don't do that bruh... XD they just go out and buy whatever fancies them.
@@shantanuselokar6357 a sensible person would then buy a maruti alto. Only one car for the whole nation, all Altos, as the entire nation is sensible.
