Stuart, my Ice Queen Continental GT, bought new on February 18th, has only 400 miles on the clock as I write this. Even so, she has had her first service, the dealership wanted to get to it as soon as possible after everything reopened here in my local area in California. I'm growing more and more fond of her each time I take her out. She's one of the friendliest motorcycles I've ever owned, as well as one of the prettiest. Yes, I'm old school, and she fits the bill - round headlight, round analog gages, spoked wheels, no plastic cladding, no odd swoopy body work, visible mechanicals. She's honest looking, a motorcycle, and she rides like she looks. She does everything well. I've noticed she has bit more "punch" at freeway speeds than she did before the service, and she's a bit smoother, as well. She reminds me she's still new, though, when I find neutral between fifth and sixth gears if I'm not positive enough with the upshift. Other than that, she is literally a dream. She reminds me of when and why I fell in love with motorcycles in my youth. Royal Enfield had me in mind when they made her! This is one very, very happy old women.
Is it only me who has the bad luck then?? My valves tore apart and my piston jammed just before my electrics melted......... Na, only joking, got all you re haters excited though didn't it!! I love this bike, I own a himalayan and love that too! It's going in for a good old servicing on Friday so taking the interceptor out for a few hours! Can't wait!
Well when I bought my himalayan I had a kawasaki versys 650, I found I hardly rode the versys, rode it a handful of times in 8 months! I found the himalayan so much more fun and comfortable (power aside, I'm not bothered by that) I sold the versys. Now, the interceptor is meant to also be a great bike, a lot more positive attitude about the interceptor! Don't get me wrong, I will never get rid of the himalayan as I really enjoy the back roads and camping trips! The interceptor, to me, is a Sunday burnout up the coast road!! I think royal enfield have come a long way, in the UK anyway, Personal opinion 👍
I tried Interceptor, Himalayan and GT continental .. Found Himalayan to be more comfortable for driving and Both GT and Interceptor more powerful ...I liked Himalayan for the comfort ... Just want to finalize on one Of them ..
I live in southern California's mountains. I usually ride my Interceptor above 5,000 ft. A few days ago I rode it up to 10,236 ft. I also rode it to an indicated 90 mph at just above 7,000 ft. This 650 runs impeccably at temps well over 110 Fahrenheit as well. It is marvelous.
Ain't gonna brag, but I was there in Rajasthan, India when a couple of teams of engineers were stress testing the interceptor/continental 650 powermills out there in the Thar desert where temperatures rise upto 60°C under direct sunlight. Don't know about other countries, but here in India Royal Enfield also rolled out an ECU update as some of the 650s had some misfiring issues when they were being ridden at an elevation of 16000 ft or more. Surprisingly the 350 & 500 singles still dominate their segments here in the Indian market. Anyway, good luck to you and your bike, sir.

I finally got mine - waited 4 months in Czech Republic :-( I was thinking about getting classic bike or scrambler - Triumph - for couple years, but Interceptor was no brainer for me this year, due to price and more "raw and simple" construction. Selling point to me was also the design - my grandpa was restoring some classic bikes when I was a kid, so in my head this look is how motorcycle should look like. Modern plastic things just do not click for me... :)
@@ssreeni00 Thanks. I need to say I also really like new Triumph Scrambler 1200, but they are just double the price of RE... and I do not want to sell half of my house to get one :-)
@@Spazik86 Both are very different in power and handling I guess apart from the price. Wish you all the best to get a Triumph scrambler soon as your next bike.
Thanks Stuart, I live in Australia and have owned and still own and ride several bikes. I bought the conti 650 and absolutely love everything about it. I ride and your long distances at high speed with luggage over many different road surfaces including dirt roads and it handles anything I throw at it. It inspires confidence and always puts a huge smile on my face.
I simply enjoy the cafe racer stance and riding position more whether it be around town, touring or track work, which the conti excells at. I love it the more i ride it and i ride it a lot.
Hi Keith. I'm 70 and have always missed owing a bike. I've just purchased a 2019 Interceptor and can't wait to get back on a bike. I couldn't go past the Interceptor after everything I've read about them. Looking forward to getting the wind in my face and enjoying the ride. And I love how you can tinker with it yourself. Fred
Hi Stuart , a fantastic summary of your impressions and a lot of true facts about the Interceptor. I ´ve got mine in April 2019 and it has now close to 15000 km. No problems at all and absolutely reliable day after day. A fantastic motorcycle "that is much greater then the sum of ist parts" (there you hit the spot). I´m now in the mid-sixties , been riding and racing bikes for all my life and own 14 motorcycles of all brands. Many of them very exclusive ones. That Interceptor is what I´ve been looking for ever since and now I´m proud and happy to have one and it puts a smile on my face whenever I open the garage-door. And that smile means more then all test-articles and horse-power numbers do ! Thank you sir for an other excellent review!
show gostei do seu comentário era isso que precisava definir se vale a pena ter essa moto. obrigado senhor. show I liked your comment this is what you needed to define if it is worth having this bike. thank you sir.
In the United States it has been a similar experience with Royal Enfield. The bikes themselves live up to expectations but the dealership experience is horrendous. The dealers either have little to no knowledge of the bikes and simply hand you a pamphlet or will try to convince you to purchase any other brand motorcycle over Royal Enfield. I hope the situation improves because the bikes are truly great.
Fair and honest review Stuart - to update you from earlier comments of mine. I traded in my 2013 Triumph Scrambler last Friday for a Red/ Black Interceptor. As you've commented I've got disillusioned with Triumph and the 'brand' people who have taken it over. Royal Enfield 650 Interceptors and ContinentalGT's are a true return to the essence of biking 👍
This sounds a little too much like the way Victory was treated. The dealers carried them, but was second to the Hondas/Yamaha/Kawasaki, the dealers also sold.
@@terrycavender The dealers will push those products where the margins are high. We in India dont have these multi-brand auto dealerships. All are single brand franchisee.
We are fortunate here in Austin to have a fantastic dealer, one of the ones hand-selected by RE corporate to handle the line. The sales experience was very pleasant. As my bike has all of 35 miles on it now and is only a weekend ride (no thanks commuting in Austin traffic) it will be a few weeks before it hits the 300 mile first service. I'll report back on that experience once I have it!
Honesty is rare in motorcycle reviews and your videos are of a rare quality overall. Thank you for your advice sir, I am now sure I will buy and cherish this bike as my first motorcycle.
If I had any doubt, they are gone now. I will buy a bike again after many years and it will be the Interceptoer. Maybe we'll see each other on the Gentlemens Ride
I've heard the Continental described as 'The bike Triumph should have built' I was looking at a T100 to replace my Classic 350, but the price in Australian pesos was just out of my range, the Continental however means I can keep the 350 which is a fun bike once re jetted and a proper exhaust fitted and enjoy both.
Picked up my Mark Two a week ago mostly thanks to you ! thanks for providing us with useful information and tips regarding motorcycling. I've been riding for more than half my life but I always learn something new from your videos. thanks Stuart and keep it up
Royal Enfield played it smart with the Horsepower landing in the Euro A2 and Australian LAMs learner limits and the right horsepower for any other riders. People have been surprised when I tell them it is learner legal here in Australia.
@@Josh-ni7hk Correct. There is a Horsepower limit of 100hp per tonne based on a rider of 90Kg plus bike weight. CC limit of 650. Still some pretty good bikes in that category.
@@Josh-ni7hk depends what country you are in mate, just check with your local licencing people A lot of countries have a power to weight ratio limit for Learners
@@colin3150 I was just curious, we don't have that here in the states. They only require you to take a 2 or 3 day learning course and than let you loose to jump on whatever you want 😆
I've got the Interceptor pinned as my next bike. Price, performance and style are spot-on for my needs. I'm not a rich boy so ease of home maintenance is a necessity as is fuel economy. I heard RE may be bringing out a version similarly styled to the bullet? Living in Wales a longer, valenced Bullet styled front mudguard would be appealing.
I tested the interceptor and the himalayan, a world of difference, the interceptor feels so well put together, I ride an mt07 and it didn't feel slow and underpower, just perfect. The only thing I didn't like was the foot pegs, they makes your legs open up a little too much. apart from that nice bike, if i had money for another street bike i would definitely get the interceptor
Aahhh Withernsea 👍🏻, a very nice review on the 650 long term Stuart, people also miss the point with the Himalayan, and it also brings questions when you park it anywhere as people don’t realise they still make them, it’s only 24.5 bhp but it’s sooooo much fun and for the record, I’ve had 2 BMW adventures in 1150 and 1200 flavours and I have just as much fun on the Enfield 😃👍🏻
I agree with you, There is this feeling you cant put your finger on, when you ride a royal Enfield. I love it! Thanks for uploading this video it reminds of my days in India. Lovely machine.
Good summary of your experience so far...I test rode the Interceptor and couldn't believe what a terrific bike it is. It looks great, it handles well, it's quick enough to be fun . And like you said, it's a bike to make your own and be proud of. Cheers, Steve
The Interceptor reminds me a lot of my 1972 Honda CB450, except with a little cleaner design. My preference is bikes that don't look like transformers and the specification numbers seem to appeal mostly to younger riders. Nice job Royal Enfield.
Don't the bikes Street Twin amd Speed Twin interest you? These have weight comparable to INT 650 @ 225 kg & 200 kh respectively. It is also said that these have perfect rider's triangle and are gem in handling/ maneuvering!
2:52 The average waiting period here in Chennai, IN (manufacturing plant location) itself is close to 3 months, so I would say that waiting period in UK is understandable. I totally agree to your point on "knowledge about the bike with the dealers", they simply announce the CC, ABS, parallel twin (don't even know about power delivery) and other features about this great machine
Have had my black beauty interceptor 3 weeks and love the bike carried out the 300 mile service found the tappets on the tight side have always service my own bikes for years Your videos prove one thing to me your never to old to learn and every days a school day Thanks and keep up the good work
Ye I've jumped ship, pick up mine tommorow, can't wait Changing from an old 900blade to something different and more upright to help my back and shoulder, Been for a test ride and loved it and ordered straight after 👍
I'm looking forward to test riding the RE 650's. At the moment I love my 500 Bullet EFI with Watsonian sidecar. First chair for me and the slowest thing I've had since my moped at sixteen, but one of the most enjoyable rides ever.
Morning mate. What started as a general browsing session led me to watch all of your videos. You speak nice and slow, that soft music in the background and your gliding by the British countryside, makes me wanna watch these videos all day long. I ride my Interceptor each day to office. Even though i have to pay parking on it. My car on the other hand has a sticker and is allowed into the office premises without me spending a dime. An yet, I cant resist picking up my helmet and keys to the Interceptor, I am glad i bought this beautiful machine. I love the point you made about people complaining about high speed and fairing, well they dont know what leisure riding is. At my age I need something relaxed and not something i live in fear off everytime i open the throttle. Needless to say, another gem of a video. Cheers
I took delivery of my Interceptor yesterday, the 9th of October. I ordered it on the 23rd of July. It was well worth the wait, Stuart is right, you have to take a test ride. It's an amazing machine and a pleasure to own and ride. It's the bike that got me back into biking.
@@vinithjukanti1284 It's best to check the dealership website in your country. In the UK they start at £5499 on the road for the silver, black or orange models.
Love your review. I currently ride an 03 Triumph Speed Triple. While I love it, I also love modern classic bikes. I love classic as well. Yes, I like to hear my triple sing with its SP Engineering can on it. However, I like simple easy riding. In the future, I can see myself with one of these in my garage. Along with my Speedy and a 1977 Honda CB750F Super Sport. I fell in love with them as a young boy back in the early 80's. I always wanted a bike from the year I was born. Thank you for the video. I am saving for one of these so when Spring arrives I can enjoy one just like you. Cheers from Pittsburgh.
Dear sir i am from India and i had Royal Enfield Elantra 350cc and i drives it more than 48900 Km and it's awesome no issues on it . Thanks for the great review..
I will get mine next November. Mr. Fillingham, your videos helped me a lot as I decided if I should buy an Interceptor. Thanks again for your content and the time you invest producing it!
As a long time Triumph owner, I must say that I love the looks of the Interceptor, I agree with most of the things you said, there's room enough for both on the roads, each to their own is what I say. By the way Stuart, I sold my T120 and replaced it with a Speed Twin, I made the mistake of taking a test ride on it.....that'll teach me! cheers bud, keep them vid's comin' Dave
Well ,i have thrown caution to the wind and bought myself a royal enfield interceptor ravishing red, cant wait !!!!! Thanks for the honest review, stay safe
I had to wait a little more than 4 months to get my silver spectre Interceptor in last fall , and I am using it daily since then.I ride it under all weather conditions even light snow, and like it every day a little. more as the mechanic seams to deliver more and more each day. The only problem I faced was the delivery of the RE accessories ordered at first , coming one by one and not yet completely delivered. Fortunately there is a very good dealer in Paris area Tendance Roadster, a team of motorbike passionates that I recommend. Thank you Stuart for your nice and instructive videos.
Thank you for the great review. I still have my 1959 Bullet 500 and it has been a great raw old school classic. English chassis and crank that I bought rebuilt in Delhi. You either love or hate an Enfield, I love the basic ride.
Great video and review,I've just got a 06 t100 in molested, spokes, carbs,no fancy stuff,it looks and drives brilliantly, and I love it,your videos helped me decide on it,now you are tempting me again,I'll have to stop following your advice,or extend my garage.!!!
Another spot on review Stuart, there's a lot to be said for back to basics bikes, with modern reliability they can be a lot of fun and very satisfying.
Absolutely captured the Classic Vertical Twin look sound and feel with this bike, congratulations Royal Enfield ! I owned a new Triumph last year and absolutely HATED it and everything about the entire experience. Went back to H-D however I will be buying an Interceptor as soon as the FLHT is payed off. My initial thought was to park the Interceptor in my living room just to admire its look but after riding one I’m thinking I’ll ride the hell out of it! I have missed this style and class of motorcycles having grown up in the ‘70’s at the tail end of the British motorcycle industry heyday. Well done R.E. you’ve built a perfect example of Classic simplicity that’s sorely missing in the motorcycle industry these days sadly.
Bought one last year and just LOVE it. Performance is exhilarating. Zero issues. Great review, very realistic and fair. This bike comes down to fun, epic image and reliability. Ride one around town and people just smile👍🏽 It is really an honest, friendly and authentic machine.
Happy to say I now have a 2019 INT 650, Mark Three (black) in my garage here at home, and look forward to our Central Texas riding season (October and November are particularly glorious here). Thanks Stuart for helping to make the decision an easy one.
stuart fillingham We pay for our nice fall weather with brutal summers - this year almost 60 days of 38 C here. A real workout of airflow for both riding garments and bikes. Will be interesting to see how the air/oil cooling works with temps that high next summer.
it is an improvement on my 1952 RE 500cc twin with piddly old cork insert clutch plates....great e you live in holland or on the nullarbour plane in western australia ,,,,,,,,,,no hills
I agree a 100%, have had the interceptor for about 3 months now and have clocked roughly 4000 kms, an absolutely brilliant machine. Motorcycling in its purest essence
I am a 79 year old retired biker, went through the cast iron monsters of the 50's and 60's, followed by the alloy and plastic wonders from Japan which followed. Having "retired" from riding just a couple of years ago I find your video content a wonderful armchair substitute and much easier on the bones. One comment in regard to your 5k service caught my attention. You mentioned there was no signs of rust, at 5K I would certainly hope not, is it now accepted that rust is to be expected at such a low mileage /age or did I misinterpret your comment. Cheers and many thanks for your work. B safe..
RE should gift you a bike for as many as you have sold for them. While shopping and looking at bikes in the category I included the RE without really considering it. I thought I would watch a few reviews find out how shit it was and mark it off the list. Your content got me thinking and digging deeper. I will probably end up getting one largely due to your RE content. It’s a sweet looking bike. I love the simplicity of it, everything you need, nothing you don’t. I’m sold man.
I agree with just about everything you have commented on. I just love getting out on mine. Not had any issues so far in 2.5k miles. Although I am keeping an eye on the exhaust down pipes as I may have some corrosion starting to appear. Just trying to decide where to ride to today! Keep up the good work.
Got my ‘69’ reg Interceptor 650 promptly delivered from the excellent Moonraker Motorcycles of Norwich, Norfolk, even though my preferred ‘Mark III’, black tank & chrome ancillary, model was on unspecified back order from the importer. The solution... my not being a massive fan of the other - ‘none so black’ - stock machines, the Baker Express’ or ‘Ravishing Red’ versions, I bought an in stock ‘Glitter and Dust’ chrome tanked model, although at a significant price premium, obviously. But I can’t fault the efforts made by the dealership MD Paul Clarke, doing his damndest to satisfy my original requirement and, in the absence of the importers ability to satisfy demand, working with me to clinch the deal and deliver to my home, 40 miles away from the dealership, my ultimately chosen version of this great bike. Highly recommended- both bike and dealer!
Had a test ride of the Interceptor and Conti GT this weekend from Haywards of Cambridge and tried to keep an open mind. I was very impressed, especially by the Interceptor which was obviously a bit more comfy than the GT. Excellent smooth gearbox and engine - surprised how flexible the engine was compared to the Triumph (I used to own a Street Twin so can make a fair comparison). Motorcycling as it should be. Great video Stuart.
I like Hayward’s too. Old school dealer with enthusiasm. I live in Felixstowe but work in Cambridge, so if I go down the RE route in the future, I will use Hayward’s.
@@waiwong7996 The Conti GT does not really compare to the Thruxton R. The Triumph is in a different league speed, power and handling wise, but also in cost. If you have the money and like the Triumph go for that - it has a great engine and gearbox and is very sporty. They both look the part though.
I love my interceptor and here in Perth Western Australia, this bike is a perfect ride except it can get hot in summer. That's why a bike with no fairings is best for me. Vynal seats are not the best so I invested in a black lambswool double padded seat cover. Absolute heaven!!!! Fits perfectly. It mainly rains in winter so I carry a waterproof seat cover in the tank bag just in case of rain. Regarding Stuart's comment on cam gear noise. It will clatter more due to the overhead cam gear so close to the petrol tank which tends to act like a sound amplifier when lower on fuel. The older traditional bikes which the interceptor is modelled on had lots of cam gear deep in the engine's bowels, which made them quieter.
Hi Stuart, Your video content talks more than u describe. And, You became as a role model to keep my Interceptor in pristine condition. OMG - I wonder how you maintain all your motorcycle in this condition. It's really based on passionate work. Thanks for the great knowledge sharing content through this platform. Thumbs up !!! Looking forward for future contents.
I got mine about 4 weeks ago, after a 3 month long waiting period. I went for the Orange Crush and let the dealer fit the fork gaiters and the small crash guards. After the first 500 km I fitted the DNA air filter kit and the stainless steel exhausts that I had ordered from Tec Bike in the UK, long before I got the motorcycle. The next improvements over the winter will be a new taillight and matching rear indicators. At the front I am opting for the Tec Bike headlight brackets and matching indicators. I won't spoil the classic look of the bike with some LED headlight, as some RE650 owners are planning to do. Further ahead I am thinking about the S&S big bore kit and a power commander to fine tune the factory engine setup. And a classic looking single speedo is also on my wishlist for the future. I'd like to see the bike reduced to the max while still keeping it's classic appearance. Unfortunately we have TÜV in Germany, a technical inspection every 2 years. They allow only officially tested and road legal accessories - which my exhaust is definitely not. But hey, no risk, no fun. The exhaust was a perfect fit and easily installed in 15 to 20 minutes. Looking forward to hearing more from your experiences soon, Stuart. I really appreciate your time and efforts in making these videos. I find them very helpful, informative and entertaining at the same time.
@@stevelawson-blight539 Fitting the DNA filter did not make such a big difference. You don't gain 4-5 bhp, but a more responsive feel and slightly more torque at low to medium revs. Most noticeable was the change of sound. The intake noise is much throatier and louder.
I've got one of these in my near future for sure. Your videos have taken me from RE not on the radar to very much wanting one. I have a great touring bike now but want something lighter, simpler and customizable and the Interceptor is ticking all the boxes. Thanks so much for your videos, well produced, amusing and love your taste in music. Over and out from the USA.
Good video Stuart (As Always), agree with the 'horses for courses' approach you're spot on, your comments about the importers and the lack of any standardisation across servicing and general attitude is also bang on mate, lets hope they sort that before it gets too much of an issue.
Hi Stewart. What a great video. Your very right what you say about your Enfield. I have got the GT. lm nearly 60. And had a lot of different motorcycles in my life. But I think the two 650 are the very best motorcycle on the market. Just for there 👀 looks. Ride safe.
So nice to see a well rounded, and honest review instead of the usual biased silliness so commonly found on RUclips. I really like all of the Royal Enfield Models, but I've narrowed it down to the Interceptor 650 and the continental GT. But it's no easy choice. If only I was made of money, I could just pick up one of every model. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Interceptor Stuart, and for making it even harder to decide.
Loving mine - nearly 1000 miles in 5 weeks... Thanks Stuart- you were one of the three reviews that MADE ME buy the bike after 32 years since my last bike!! HAHA! Just got one. The smile just doesn't leave my face. Riding for 56 years, many different bikes, the Interceptor 650 is fun and that's as good as it gets. Where can I get a tank rack like the old style triumph one.
Hi Stuart. Thankyou for your brilliant presentation. Yes I am looking at getting an Interceptor. 2 things I saw that I liked. How does it do for long touring?

I going to buy one of them
Being thinking about it lattley
I am now 70 years old always had bikes and now I miss my bike
Riding actually adds years to your life.
I finally got mine - waited 4 months in Czech Republic :-(
I was thinking about getting classic bike or scrambler - Triumph - for couple years, but Interceptor was no brainer for me this year, due to price and more "raw and simple" construction.
Selling point to me was also the design - my grandpa was restoring some classic bikes when I was a kid, so in my head this look is how motorcycle should look like. Modern plastic things just do not click for me... :)
Congratulations on your new Interceptor.....
Congrats bro, enjoy your ride😉

Thanks Stuart, I live in Australia and have owned and still own and ride several bikes. I bought the conti 650 and absolutely love everything about it. I ride and your long distances at high speed with luggage over many different road surfaces including dirt roads and it handles anything I throw at it. It inspires confidence and always puts a huge smile on my face.
Why did you choose the Continental over the Interceptor? Asking cause I must decide as well :)
It's - Built like a Gun, goes like a Bullet.
yeah ,untill the bottom end goes BANG!!.... that could be a way long time in distant future
@@prashanthb6521 it is not that way here.
I will too, after many years , after selling my race prepped R1 that i used to race in the virginia international raceway , hope you do well.
I keep coming back to this channel for Stuarts soothing narration.
I've heard the Continental described as 'The bike Triumph should have built'
I was looking at a T100 to replace my Classic 350, but the price in Australian pesos was just out of my range, the Continental however means I can keep the 350 which is a fun bike once re jetted and a proper exhaust fitted and enjoy both.
Stuart! 11.58 hundreds of Triumph owners jumping ship.I am one of them courtesy your review!

Yes same here in NZ, just ordered one for my Training business which will end up doing a lot of miles with me on it as well...LOL
What is a learner limit? Are y'all not allowed to ride certain bikes once you get your license?
Thank you Stuart. I’m a Canadian with an Interceptor that I really, really enjoy. This video is spot on as is all the advice given in your videos.
Your videos are very helpful for everyone keep doing this great work
I agree with you, There is this feeling you cant put your finger on, when you ride a royal Enfield.
I think these days Triumph is more about selling image than a classic British motorcycle. Rather disappointing. Much prefer the RE approach.
@@johnsumser9743 define "lately." If you mean this latest batch, no, but the previous generation, yes. Still stand by my statement.

Great review, Stuart. Your perfect pronunciation of all the syllables makes it a delight for foreigners
The classic feel to a Royal Enfield is what clicks for me. Proud and Loyal Royal Enfield owner 😊

An yet, I cant resist picking up my helmet and keys to the Interceptor, I am glad i bought this beautiful machine. Love your review. I currently ride an 03 Triumph Speed Triple. While I love it, I also love modern classic bikes. I love classic as well.

I did replace those anyway. They add up to 10.5 kgs
Would you recommend the Royal Enfield or the Triumph? I was looking into the Thruxton r and the equivalent Continental GT 650. Thanks
Hi Stuart,
Your video content talks more than u describe.
How about the thunderbird headlamp for the interceptor?
AYACSM
Did you notice much difference with the DNA filter?
Hello Stuart, thanks for the video. I am on the fence regarding this bike, but your confidence is pushing me towards getting one home.
As usual, informative and clever !! Thanks sir !
Ride safe.
I recently enquire at my local Enfield dealer about the Interceptor in the black and red and was quoted 6weeks + wait.
HAHA! Hi Stuart. Thankyou for your brilliant presentation. Yes I am looking at getting an Interceptor. 2 things I saw that I liked.
