As a guy who's never been married and doesn't have kids, it's no cakewalk either. I do know from firsthand experience that broken ribs hurt like an absolute monster, but that's no reason to be an a-hole. But then again, it's clear he's already an a-hole.

My father, from whom I had been estranged until he reached out to me when I was 21, and then we never became close although I tried to forgive him for abandoning me as a baby, called me several years later as he lay dying of cancer in a hospital bed, trying again to "make amends". He also had the audacity to ask for my help with paying for his medical bills. I refused to speak to him again, but I did send him a strongly worded letter telling him, among other things, that I grieved only for the fact that I could not grieve for a father I never knew and I would not grieve for a stranger who chose to meet me only when it was convenient for him. When he died, I felt no sadness, only emptiness for all the chances he had to try to be a decent father and failed.
My Dad never complained about anything - he was happy with his life. But even he, after Mum passed away, said that he never realised how much Mum did as a stay at home wife and mother until she was gone. Some men either just don't want to get it, or they do but pretend otherwise so they can be selfish.
He didn't give a damn about his wife or child... they absolutely didn't need him.. how either was able to last decades with him is astonishing. he did the bare minimum as a father and husband and expected them to be there for him in his time of need.. even though he was NEVER there for either of them. He's on a different level of doucheism, he tried to sabotage his own daughter's future.. if she was depending on him, she would've missed her exams. His wife is better than me. Broken ribs or not.. no way in hell I would've nursed him back to health.. F him and his broken ribs. I hope it puncture a lung🤭... he didn't want a wife or child. I thought he was gay with all that time he was spending with his "friend".. what straight man would rather spend all of his time with another man instead of his wife and child?..

I know the story doesn't say it, but a friend of mine was talking like that to his family. I saw him going into a Motel on the outskirts of town with a young girl. I went to his house and told his wife. Needless to say they got Divorced. I think Dad is Cheating along with being a jerk to his family.

It took me many years to realise that I was wasting my time tying to please my parents. I suffered an abusive childhood that extended even when I was in the military, until one day I just stopped going home or having anything to do with the family. I didn't miss any of them.

And then he changed his mind. Once you're a parent, that's it. You are someone's parent. Like it or not.But it is a good thing. Since the moment you become a parent you are not alone anymore. You have someone yours now. I m sorry your family didn't apreciate you. You did the right thing. But this guy in the story did not see what he had. Until it was too late. I guess in a way your family members didn't know how to apreciate whome they had.

I bet Nina has been more mature than her father for many years! I'm glad she and her mother broke free from him! It sounds like her mother was waiting until Nina was an adult to leave her husband. Kids don't always need both parent and staying together for the kids is a horrible idea, especially if everyone is unhappy and in an abusive home.

Nina put herself in this situation. She knew her father was unreliable and he admitted that he only said he would take her to shut her up. She knew he couldn’t care less about her needs so why did she rely on him after all the promises he broke. She should have made alternate plans.
Because children with bad parents will have a pipe dream that someday the irresponsible parent will actually do the right thing.
There is a possibility there were not any other plans that day so I would not say she put her in that situation. And frankly even when the "father" said that, it was the last chance and look what happened

Before watching this I was kinda expecting the plot to be the dad abandoned the family at some point not the dad making it clear he doesn't love the family only to finally realize what he had when it was gone when his family finally gave up on him around the time he got into an accident
The dad is lucky his wife from the sound of it waited to divorce him until after he healed from the accident cause she had every right to abandon him in his time of need. She should have divorced him long ago but at least it's over. I doubt she wants to remarry but if the mom ever decides to marry again I hope she finds someone that actually appreciates her & Nina cause the mom deserves a husband that actually loves her & Nina deserves a dad that actually cares about the family instead of treating them like trash/annoying maids/something to neglect & repeatedly reminding them he doesn't love them cause he feels stuck with them.
While Nina probably should have known better than to think her dad wouldn't help out I don't blame her cause sometimes people just hope for the best sometimes when it comes to their parents & this was likely her trying to give him one last chance to prove to her that she shouldn't abandon him like he technically did to her & her mom. There's a brief mention that her mother doesn't drive. Some people don't--my husband didn't learn until his 20s because he used the bus or his bicycle to get everywhere.
It's also possible Dad didn't want his wife to drive; he did say something near the end about finally letting her have a phone. What a putz.
My fiancé doesn’t drive when she was old enough to learn Uber was already pretty prevalent so she never learned, I’ve even paid for a driving course

I 50/50 on this story the tittle is misleading because an exam you can take other time. It wasnt life threatening. The father was getting worse but there had signs that he was bad. For the mother to stay with a men like that's so confusing. I had sympathy for when he had an accident. Exam do not equate to someones that got there bones broke. When he said fine this family's is over her mother should have divorced him instead she endure more abuse.
