This girl needs to keep him forever. I was in a relationship with a guy whose family hated me, he perpetually tried to act like he was on my side and then got mad at me whenever his mother did something mean to me. I later realized he had just as many passive aggressive and abusive traits as his family. This girl got really lucky, I hope she knows that.

I had to put my MIL in check for how she was treating my wife (her daughter). We did not visit or talk to them for 10 years. Finally, FIL broke the whole situation by finally putting his wife in place and then inviting us for Christmas. Every time MIL opened her fat mouth, he checked her--hard. since then, my FIL has passed and mommy dearest now has to manage everything herself and guess what? She has had to swallow many bitter pills to become a better person and mom.
I don't tolerate disrespect to my wife from anyone just like I don't put up with it for myself. We are a family and for that to work, everyone has to have everyone else's back.

I was totally shaking my head when Melanie said maybe SHE should have been nicer because seriously she had taken this crap for 3 years without standing up for herself or doing anything at all about it. Liam is to blame here too because he obviously knew how his mom was treating her yet he didn't put a stop to it in all of that time either. It took the mom escalating into totally treating Melanie like a dog before he actually stood up and did something about it, but Melanie was still not going to stand up for herself or make waves . Of course the MIL only got worse with her bad behavior because given their previous lack of action she thought it would be fine. It shouldn't have even gone that far because they should have stopped it from the start.

My mother was absolute shit to my husband to be. He tried so hard to allow her to get to know him by trying to schedule weekly phone chats (we live far) with her. She rejected them then would come at me for him not trying to "make an effort". I was there when he asked her, he tried several times. She would spread lies about him that made no sense from saying his sleep apnea was caused by laziness and that he didnt love me because he didnt have a traditional corporate job. And other things. She also hated that i adopted my step son. So i cut her off. If she could be so nasty to someone who never hurt me or her AND said shit about my child, fuck no thats a shitty person. My husband and child meant more to me. Shes been dead to me since March 2021. ❤️

Step 1 with a MIL like this, tell her immediately that in order to gave complete transparency in your marriage, all text conversations with his family will be shared with the husband. That way they won’t be able to abuse you secretly, and have to be responsible for their actions.

MIL turns up at their old house, & has a meltdown when total strangers are living there! She tries to force her way in, & they call the cops on her. As she's handcuffed & shoved into the car, she's still screaming: "I'm his MOTHER!! They *have* to let me in!!" over and over, even as the homeowners tell the cops they have no idea who this crazy lady is...
It doesn't go well for her in jail.

This is proof that Caroline will never change her ways.
She offered to team with one DIL and make the life of the other DIL a nightmare while asking for forgiveness?
In what world does that count as an effort to convince someone of your willingness to change your ways?
And as for Andrea? She is just an incarnate of Caroline from her younger days. The fruit doesn’t too fall from the tree.

Why is it mandatory that she help MIL and not the other people? Does Caroline think Liam is blind and doesn't see how she treats his wife? That family was so immature. They should block their number. It sounds like 4 adults need to get a job. This conversation should have ended a long time ago. LIam said he didn't want either of them to talk to his family again and Melanie goes right on ahead to talks to his family. Is the wife a glutton for punishment?

When family members complain about the lack of children, it pisses me off. Firstly it’s not their business because it’s basically barging into someone’s intimate lifestyle. Secondly having children is a choice. Raising a child is a huge responsibility and if people who are in relationships choose not to have children they have the right not to. Having a child is not a requirement in life, nor is anyone obligated to do so.
