First off, the SIL lied about her not being the mother of Mona so if anything it’s not the hospital’s fault for sending her away. As for the other thing, the MC would’ve been charged not SIL for abuse which she could prove is false if she could get a chance to.

I absolutely hate when parents use the "you don't have any children" card, to try and justify their actions. My brother did the same to me when we had an argument about his daughter a few years ago. The thing, is, out of the two of us, I'm the one who knows how to take care of kids, since I've done it most of my life, while he has not. Starting with my younger counsins, my younger siblings, etc. He only had 1 daughter for a year and a half at that point yet he assumes he knows more about child care then I do. He and his wife both seem to believe that having a child magically gives you all the knowledge, skills and experience of child raising of 30+ years. And even if you working with children, like my other brother does, don't make you knowledgable about kids if you don't have any yourself. As a result of that, their daughter is not having a good life right now, and we can't do much about it since they cut us off. They also don't seem to question the fact that whenever my niece wanted something, hurt herself and wanted comfort, or any parental attention, she came to her grandmother, or her uncles (me and my other brother) instead of her parents. Even going so far as to try and shove her mother out of the way to get to her grandmother because she fell and was crying. I absolutely hate parents like this, they don't even deserve to have children.
I was actually expecting Juliet to be having an affair too since she was neglecting Mona so much 😅 I think I've watched too many of these stories to be thinking that
The way I see it, Juliet being stressed out about doing everything herself was only one of the causes for her actions. Since it is clear she has a lot of pride. Since for her to feel embarassed from asking for help is obviously a result of such a thing. Of course, there could be other factors. Such as how her parents had raised her or something similar. And no, I'm not trying to defend Juliet. Since what she did was straight up a crime and she deserves to be punished. It's just that she clearly was stressed out and felt that she would have been judged poorly for asking for help.
Staving a child is not a result of stress. Mom had others who would help. The aunt or grandparents would have helped. Withdrawal of food is not a form of punishment which should ever be used. This is malnourishment and severe dehydration not withdrawal of a treat. Blaming the aunt shows this mom’s true colors. By trying to hide her own guilt by not taking child to visit and lying about who was the child’s mom shows mom is more concerned about being caught then by what she had caused in her own child.
Your story feel down when a hospital released a child who is clearly being neglected. Doctors and nurses are mandated reporters. They have to contact the police of child welfare to report the neglect. She would not have been released from the hospital.

To say that the child will be confident enough in future to push the memories of her mother's behavior away is unrealistic in the extreme. She is going to need counselling for several years as she grows up so that when memories come to plague her she'll have someone objective to turn to. The kind of abuse she suffered brands any very young child deeply. It'd be nice if she could be strong enough to dismiss the memories herself, and I know her family will help her. But counselling from a neutral party is going to help much more than anyone might think. Please don't forget that.

Juliet had a lot of people willing to listen to her struggles & help her care for Mona when things get too rough but her ego made her refuse & take things out on this poor child. Even though I don't think abuse should be a punishment in these stories I hope people in jail/prison find out what happened & make sure Juliet has a hard time getting a meal a few times to make her realize she fucked up. They probably stop after she gets the message(along with not doing it to much as they know the staff will get suspicious plus don't want to kill her even if the people wish they could kill her for abusing the child) but they also don't let her live down how she's here cause she tried to starve her daughter cause Juliet can't be a proper adult/parent to a preschooler. I'm glad Mona is safe now & her dad was able to make things work so he can be there for her more often.
