The police did not charge the MC as it was self defense and she was being threatening as the MC was recording everything. Now Doris is stuck taking care of her crappy good for nothing son and has to work part time to bring in money as her son refuses to work. She is struggling so heavily because of her migraine from the punches and kicks and her old age. Eventually after a fight between her and her son broke out she ended up in the hospital and her son ended up getting arrested as he is a complete arrogant idiot. Now she is completely bedridden because of the assault.

I wonder what Melody & Heidi are doing since we only learn how things are going with Doris & Mark, though there's a possibility they're just as bad & aren't oblivious to this I want to imagine(for the sake of karma & I feel bad for the other kids given what we see of the family) that Melody & Heidi find out what Doris & Mark did. The two apologize to OP & her daughter while keeping their kids away from Doris & Mark since neither can be trusted anymore & are terrible influences. Doris is devastated as she not only has she been disowned by her family & OP won't return to help her but Doris now can't be around her grandkids anymore not even the ex-stepdaughter of Mark's.
I also want to imagine all this eventually makes Doris snap & manage to force Mark to learn to do chores & shit or go back to work to make them money or else she'll kick him out & while he's an entitled/spoiled manchild his mom likely has ways to scare him into doing as she says. Mark deserves karma too so his mom is miserable cause she lost her family & is stuck with her 40 year old manchild son & Mark is forced to do chores or get a job to help with money & will have to do this(while dealing with his mom being done with his manchild ways) until he decides to finally leave.
I know OP said she realizes she & her daughter don't need a husband/dad but if she does remarry again I hope she finds a husband that actually cares for her & her daughter, puts his share of work into stuff around the house, will stand up for them & isn't two-faced like Mark who seemed like a productive & good man but turns out to be a gambling manchild that wasted money & won't stand up for OP nor her kid when he should.
