  • 1. Learn how to compress you larynx via holding the stops in between gentle coughs
    2. Learn how to speak while holding the stops (known as compressed voice)
    3. Learn how to raise your voice while keeping the larynx compressed (by holding the stop) to trigger vestibular folds / false folds distortion
    4. Learn how to sing very high with lots of twang (without going into your falsetto) by using the mode EDGE (Google: "edge CVT")
    5. Sing a very high note like you learned it while compressing the larynx
    Be very cautious with learning compression. This can be done wrong VERY EASILY. Don't practice for more than 10 minutes at a time and closely monitor if it effects your voice.

    ONLY ONCE YOU CAN CONTROL THE DISTORTION FROM STEP 3 (raising your voice inside the compression) YOU CAN TRY STEP 5.
    Do not attempt the last step before having mastered the distortion first. That means being able to switch it on and off reliably and it feels good for you. Be very cautious with learning compression. This can be done wrong VERY EASILY. Don't practice for more than 10 minutes at a time and closely monitor if it effects your voice. This techniques is one of the hardest screaming techniques, since you need good control over screaming AND singing. Do not underestimate this.

    Hey guys so ive been learning how to pitch scream like sam carter of architects lately and i think i got it for the most part. The problem im having is when trying to pitch scream higher registered parts such as the lyrics in "holy hell"
    "but now the rivers are running red and the skies have been set ablaze"
    I can only hit the middle octave and cant hit the highest harmony. I know that theres several layers recorded in the track and i cant for the life of me hit the high harmony. I cant even really find a good example of sam carter or anyone doing this high ass pitched scream without fx and a mic so i cant tell what it would even sound like without that. Not sure if hes using purely fry + head voice.
    If anyone knows how to hit it and can give me tips id appreciate it so much!

    You’re gonna cause someone to fuck up there throat. As a Black Metal vocalist I don’t recommend doing anything with your throat you will hurt yourself.

    • @SINGANDSCREAM
      @SINGANDSCREAM  3 года назад

      Hi man, developing this style of screaming is definetely not easy and as it is with all screaming techniques, if you do it improperly you can hurt yourself easily. Take a look at the endoscopys that are out there (mine or from Chris Liepe, Brandon Kennedy, or Complete Vocal Institute) to see that screaming is absolutely done "with your throat". The cough is just one method to get the false fold closure needed for this technique. Depending on whether you use creaking or not most or all of the distortion in this technique comes from the false folds. These are in your throat. Directly above the vocal folds. You need to learn how to close these while singing, so they flap in the wind and create distortion. One way to get them to close is via their natural functions = coughing / closing to create internal pressure (like when pooping or lifting something heavy).
