- This week I take a walk within the beautiful New Forest National Park to discover the legend surrounding the Rufus Stone. Was King William II murdered here, or was it an accident?
I also take a visit to the grave of a very famous British author.

Great video so beautiful Thank you Nic🤗😀
Thanks so much for watching PanakaNL! 😊
I like those old cemeteries, they are serene and calming. 👍👍👍
They are. I love how wild they let the grass grow too. Good for nature and good for aesthetics 😄
I've only just found your channel. Very interesting information. We looked at the Rufus Stone when we were on holiday in the New Forest once, but didn't know the whole story of the 'accident', so thank you. I will have a look at your other videos.
Thanks so much Carol, much appreciated!
What charming video wi5h interesting stories to go with it.
Thank you! 😊
Interesting history Nic .I never knew anything much about the Rufus stone other than the shooting .
It's a fascinating bit of local history! Thanks for watching, Ian.
Hello, I was married at this church in Minstead As my sister lives in the village it was such a beautiful day❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi there! What a beautiful place to get married! Such a peaceful church and area. Thank you for watching!
Imagine having him exhumed ! Why buy the house in the first place? I would have been very proud to have his grave in my garden.
Me too! Poor chap wanted to be buried there. I believe it's a care home now.
Lovely video as always ... But it highlighted a personal embarrassment, I've never been to the New Forest 😔🤔
Aww well if you can visit, you must! Such a beautiful place and so much history. I'd definitely recommend waiting for tourist season to be over though as it can get busy. Thanks for watching 🙂
I have the great good fortune to live here. It is beautiful. Bring your walking shoes. A good place to start is Longslade Valley and Hinchelsea Wood just north of Sway. The heather is stunning this year.
I have visited the area and found it very interesting in the vein of family Surname. It would be very interesting in exploring the association of my surname. I am English with Irish blood through my lineage. I wouldn't know how to begin to explore the history.
Great video!
Thanks Mike!
Worth tracking down "The killing of William Rufus" Duncan Grinnell-Milne (1968). Goes into more detail, and an exciting read.
Thank you for the recommendation - much appreciated.
In the early sixties I was on a hike (navy) through the forest and came to this landmark. I leant against it to fill out my postcards for sending to New Zealand. Just a few hours later, for no reason, I came over quite sick (weak, floppy etc etc)(you know how it goes). Coincidence? Who knows; I was myself again next morning but made a mental note that if ever I go there again I shall NOT lean against the stone to write my postcards.
Wow that's a rather intriguing experience! Pleased to say, I did not touch the stone at all!
@@walkingthewyrd If you do, then do so with due respect. I think ol' Willie Shakespeare had something when he gave Hamlet words to the effect of "... there are more things in Hev'n and Earth, Horatio, etc etc" ... brrrrr~!
I kive on the edge of the new forest in wiltshire a village called Downton. Live it 😊
Hi there! I know Downton as I have family in Fordingbridge! Lovely area to live in. ☺️
Yep that accidental arrow bouncing off a tree all sounds well dodgy! All very Game of Thrones...or Putinesque.
Nice to see old Arthur's final resting place too...a nice wander!
Very suspicious indeed! Thanks for watching, David!
Woohoo new episode
Thanks for watching Carlitos 🙂
wow didnt know he was buried there cause he had a house in crowborough sussex. i think its the one Cate Blanchet lives in currently not sure, maybe he moved there. he was said to do seances in his new forest home.
