    Found this journey into the woods quite moving - the sisters story, moved me greatly.
    The woods themselves moved me, a beautiful place, one can only imagine the sisters would be at peace to ‘sleep’ in such a beautiful, peaceful and natural environment. Blessings,❤.

      @@walkingthewyrdI've just came across your RUclips channel and thoroughly enjoyed the video. I'm a paranormal investigator from Torquay and frequently go to one of the most haunted castles called Berry Pomeroy Castle and have 2 pages on FB and 3 documentaries on RUclips called The Many Ghosts of Berry Pomeroy Castle which I hope you check out. I think you should visit sometime this castle.

    Hi Nicola. Those poor sisters. Imagine the excitement of moving to a new country with hopes and dreams abound, only to end their days, confused, terrified and quite frankly murdered. I can’t begin to imagine what they must have gone through. Makes me shudder. May they rest in peace.
    Thank you for another informative and enjoyable story (the WWII bunkers appealed to me, greatly). This video was beautifully put together and I thoroughly enjoy listening to your narration. Love what you do. Skål! Simon

      @@walkingthewyrd A lack of education, knowledge and understanding I presume? However those with an inkling of common sense, probably used that common sense to keep quiet and not fall prey to those uneducated sorts. I’d be happy to breathe the clean air of those times, but the rest? Nope.😬🫣Happy weekend Nicola.

    Much better filming than another video about this place on youtube. What I find intriguing about so many of these old tales and superstitions is how illogical they can be - in this case, plant them far enough apart that the sisters can't talk to each other in the afterlife. Did no one think that they might be able to meet up in the world beyond this one? Interestingly we have a holy well near here, and that too is liberally decked with streamers and votive gifts - only its in a churchyard.

    The story of the four
    Handsel sisters is patently complete nonsense - a local story to explain the position of the (originally) four beech trees. If there had been such a brutal lynching of four women for being witches in 18th century England the story would be prominant in the history of British whitchcraft - but it doesn't appear at all.
    And even in the 1700's such an appalling event wouldn't have occured without it being brought to the attention of the local magistrate - but where are the records?
    And is it a coincidence that the story of 'Hansell and Gretel' (with its witch and dark wood) was translated into English in the early 1800's?
    What's the betting that the story is a 19th century concoction?

    • @walkingthewyrd
      @walkingthewyrd  Месяц назад +1

      I expect most of our local folklore is not true as such.
      I read that a local historian couldn't find any entries for the Handsel sisters in the parish records. Your theory around the release of the Hansell and Gretel story coinciding with this local legend sounds very plausible indeed.
