A narrated history of The Rufus Stone in The New Forest, one of the best known sites in The New Forest.
This video is number 3 in a series of short videos showing what to see and do in The New Forest
    #newforesthistory #rufusstone #newforest
    What3words location: rationing.escapades.spotty
Nearest car park: Rufus Stone car park
Public Transport: The nearest bus stop is at Cadnam roundabout which has an hourly service from Totton, but only on Tuesday and Thursday. It's still a fair walk to the Rufus Stone but through very pleasant countryside and woods (not a recognised footpath).

Interesting to learn about the historical significance of the area and the stone in its place. Thank you for sharing the walk and the great views!

Yes it is an interesting (and true) story. However, there is some doubt that the stone is in the right place. Some people think that William Rufus was killed in a different part of the forest. We will never know! Thanks for watching and best wishes, Rob

Thanks Princess, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. William Rufus's father, known as William the Conqueror, invaded England and came to power in 1066. That date, to an English school child, is as memorable as 1776 is to you :) All the best, Rob

Great story, and very well told! Lots of intrigue there! I sometimes wonder how the historians can sort out facts from legends. Very nice to learn more about the history of the New Forest, King William II (and Henry) and the Rufus Stone. Very enjoyable! 👍👍😄🌳🌳🌳
