- Links to axles & tools below. The service manual for the SRT-4 calls for the axle replacement by removing the hub from the lower control arm but I do it differently by separating the hub from the strut. I leave the tie rod in left in place but disconnecting it made the job easier for me. I did forget to disconnect the ABS sensor which can be damaged if the cable is stretched.

CORRECTION (time 10:33) SERVICE MANUAL SHOWS TORQUE SPEC FOR TIE ROD END NUT: 40 FT LBS
Love the SRT4 videos you're doing. Super easy to follow. Please keep them coming.
Will do bud! thanks for watching Steven B!
Great video! Good job saying which side your on, keeping the size of socket on the screen while you use it, and the torque specs! Very helpful Thanks
Appreciate that AdrianZ33, trying my best here!
Trying to figure out if I can do this myself on my 03' SXT. I think I can now thanks to you. I LOVE my neon. Manual transmission, and VERY few problems. BEST VID ON THIS HANDS DOWN!!
Thank you Scott, I appreciate it!
Really good video man thanks a lot!!
Glad to hear it helped! I learned from doing it wrong so many times lol
thx for adding the overlays with torque specs.
You're welcome Matt! And thanks for watching bud!
Good how-to. Very clear. Only thing I do different with my axle install is I leave the brakes all assembled and installed. It just saves a little bit of work.
Thanks man! That't interesting never thought about leaving brakes on, is there enough slack in the brake line?
@@AlexAutoFun Yep, never had an issue with the brake line doing this.
@BoostedFools Good info will definitely try next time, also cool user name!
just make sure you disconnect the one at the wheel well on the wall it's a 10 mm bolt I believe then you'll have plenty of slack in your brake lines
Awesome instructional vid bro thank you
Thanks The Lone Power Ranger! appreciate it.
Excellent tutorial 👌
Thanks pepperinyoureye!
Helped a bunch thanks bro
You're welcome bud and thanks for watching!
Damn good job man,,,,,,your aces
Thanks Eric appreciate that!
Two tips to add: The "4th mount" motor mount is often not included in solid mount sets. They go unnoticed because its hard to even see it (next to timing cover, below upper torque mounts). If it's bad (if its original, its bad by now), you will constantly have to replace the passenger side axel and wheel bearing because the motor sits multiple inches low when it goes. Don't ask me how I found out. Oh, and when you take off your axel nut, if you have a metal pipe to slide over the end of a breaker bar, it will help loads with leverage.. if that doesn't work, get an impact air gun and it will work well. Harbor freight "Earthquake" works well. The axel nut can be impossible without an impact.;
Hi Me Gusta! thanks for sharing this tips man!
@@AlexAutoFun No problem. Good video. Thanks for the clutch video. It's perfect and quick. very good editing.
@@megusta2620 Thanks man!
ive owned my srt4 for 8yrs now and i always have a spare axle in my trunk xD
Haha! I can't even remember how many axles overs the years, literally lost count!
Great video!!! Thanks!!!!
You're welcome Usel!
Couldn’t have said it better 👍
Very helpful ‼️
Thanks Keem!
Great Video! Thanks for taking time for adding the torque specs. Should I replace the trans axle bearing to on the pass. side? My car has 160,000 and the axle has some play in it and is VERY hot to the touch. Drivers side is not hot to the touch and has no play. Thanks for following up on the answers!
Thanks Michael! I'm assuming you are referring to the axle hub bearing? I'm at the same miles, 3 are original ones and 1 was replaced. So far they seem to be holding steady but they are likely near end of life. If yours is getting very hot and has play I would change it, that was the symptoms my old one had. I bought a press but most shops with a press will press it in for you cheap. Thanks for watching buddy!
FYI - Gator Axles and Gator Racing Axles have the best replacement axles on the market, they excellent quality.
Good tip, thanks for sharing Bud!
Just curious, how many Duralast axles have you gone through? Thanks for explaining why they break. Are you running all four solid mounts and coilovers? If so, what kind? Also, thanks for your awesome videos on this platform. They’re really helpful!
Hi Michah, I actually only gone thru one set (lasted many years on my Stage 3 Mopar setup) I only recently changed due to the rubber boot cracking, I was blown away by how durable and how affordable ($) they are. I do have all four solid mounts. I used to have the Mopar Coil over setup but I'm now back on Mopar stage 1 springs. Thanks for watching appreciate the positive comments bud!
@@AlexAutoFun Nice! Yeah, I'm planning on adding the third mount, but that's going to be an all-day thing from the looks of it. If you want to make a video on that sometime, that would be awesome. Back to the axles, though - were your Duralast Gold the same length as your stock axles? Another RUclipsr, ModItAll Garage, did an axle replacement and they were substantially shorter than the stock axle. It has me a little concerned. I'm only at 300whp right now, so it might not be too big of a deal. Hoping for more whp in the future. Thanks again!
broken 8 pairs on mine so far lol. dcr is expensive but worth it
Wow! I believe you yenyen33089, are you running DCR ones? let us know how they are bud! I hope to try a set myself one day and review it on the channel..
hey how high do you need to lift your car to use that jack? Im having trouble with the install and removal of my transmission and this jack would be great but it doesnt look like there is enough room for it to fit.
Hi Slace0Zero, I believe your are referring to the Quickjack? it's super low profile, probably more than my low profile regular car jack. I'm slightly lowered on Mopar Stage 1 springs but I do have a video coming up where I review the Quickjack on the SRT4 should have actual clearance measurements in case your are slammed with little space. It does help a lot specially on the tranny job as it can lift the car quite a bit up on the air.
So I'm trying to remove my transmission so I can replace the clutch and I took the 213 mm bolts out of the intermediate shaft and it will not budge I yanked on as hard as I can and I can't get it to slide out can you help me out
Hi Vincent! I would double check all the bolts and associated components have been removed. It usually comes off fairly easy at that point (unless your spline shaft is seized into place with another component like the clutch splines, rare but I seen it happen). Hope this helps and thanks for watching bud!
Can u "weld" an axle lol... I have a 5 speed 2002 neon... or wat would he weld? Crazy rt!!
I am running stock power how long would the duralast axles likely last me? I do not go to the track however i do the occasional pull every couple days.
Hi isnapaxles, I been getting about 3-4 years on them before the boot breaks but axle still work (while on Mopar Stage 3 aprox 25 psi of boost). The previous axles from other brands would only last me a year or less before the actual inside snapped leaving me stranded. Not fun LOL
hey so im using the same axles but for some reason it isn't flush with the case. I feel it lock into place but I can also pull it out very easily. Any thoughts?
Hi Adam! normally the snap you feel when they lock in is pretty noticeable, and they are somewhat hard to pull off again, now it is possible they axle is only partially engaged, I usually pull it back out slightly and push it back it with one in one shot to it snaps in (sometime this takes a couple times before it does). Hope this helps and please let know if you were able to figure it out bud!
Thank you, good sir! Was there a “click” when you installed the passenger side axle? I know the driver side clicks in but my passenger side does not and I’m wondering if the axle I got is missing something. Your help is appreciated!
Hi Able! sometimes I have felt or hear the click, sometime it has gone in a locked in place but didn't hear anything. What I normally done, is I just check visually to see if the "C" clip is installed in the end of the axle before installation. I have also been able to confirm it has "clicked" in to place by lightly pulling on the axle to see if the axle is retained before completing this installation, hope this helps bud!
@@AlexAutoFun you the man! Thank you.
You should take the camera with you for the test run.
You should do a intermediate shaft removal and install
Will add to the list my friend!
Lol im still on original axles now on a big turbo 😬 still holding but I don't do launches
Nice!
Was looking at the video. You mentioned a snap ring has to come out. I didn't see that in the video. Where is that snap ring. And when and how are you removing it. Do you remove it before pulling out the axle.
Bumb, also curious about that
Hi Jahanzeb Akhter, there is no snap ring to remove, the snap ring is mounted on the end of the axle to help hold it to the tranny. It shouldn't come off the axle, unless its broken. Tugging on the axle pulls the axle free or as I do in the video I pry on the axle. Hope this helps!
Hi John Wall, please see my reply below, hopefully it make sense, and thanks for watching buddy!
@@AlexAutoFun i ended up changing an axle on my srt4 i just tapped it off thank you ir vids help alot, gona be taking the tranny out soon to
Is it the same for a 2005 dodge neon sxt cause I'm pretty sure my neon needs new axles the passenger side is vibrating and it's getting worse great video by the way best I've seen yet
Hi MarkO Devoll, its pretty much identical with a few exceptions and torque specifications. From what you are describing I would agree it sounds like an axle is on it's way out. Lets us know what you find bud!
@@AlexAutoFun I replace the passenger side yesterday but I was losing daylight so I have to do the drive side in the morning it did take most of the vibration away when i test drove it but i still heard it vibrated once or twice but that's a real big improvement compared to what it was doing cause it was vibrating all the time so hope fully it will be completely gone when i finish the drive side , thank you for getting back to me and this video was a big help I so appreciate watching this it took alot of worry away I cant thank you enough
My pleasure MarkO!
I think u can remove the axle with just removing the knuckle from the lower control arm
Hi Charlie! yeah I think so, in fact the method you describe is actually closer to how the service manual calls for it to be done, I just always found it easier to approach it from top, but good tip! Thanks for watching bud!
Sorry but I have to completely disagree with you and soul a lot of other people on the solid motor mounts. Solid motor mounts cause way more problems and you end up breaking more stuff because there’s no give. And They caused so much vibration through out the car that things start shaking and falling apart. And it’s especially annoying when you’re driving it. My SRT had solid mounts on it when I first got it and I couldn’t stand all the vibration so I switched all the motor mounts back to factory motor mounts and boy was it ever a huge difference and so much smoother of a ride and seem to run a lot better also
Hi davieboy1970! yep solid motors mounts are definitely not for everyone (my friend for example can't stand riding the car, she says her kidneys hurt from all the vibration and roughness LOL and it doesn't help I'm running the Rims from the SRT4 Extreme Lightweight further increasing NHV) I cover this in more detail on this other two videos not sure if you see those yet ruclips.net/video/qdL6dzc_sDc/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/l4jl1PXLU5c/видео.html Cheers Bud!
If you have the part # for the axles that can help. I can’t seem to find them on thier website. Thanks!

@@AlexAutoFun thank you so much !
@@ricardomuro9567 You're welcome!
You only want to use Mopar axles even used ones are better then autozone etc axles. If you want upgrade get DSS axles
I was never able to get my hands on Mopar ones, it sucks they discontinued them, if I ever do find one I will sure give it a try, thanks for the tip Stank Dank!
@@AlexAutoFun Real tune is about to come out with the axles they used on the 9 second cars thats the axle i would buy. My friends have snapped DCR axles
Can you post the part numbers of the axles you have had success with?
Thank you and keep up the great videos.
Hi Wade! I placed the links to the axles in the description, it will show the part number on them too, not sure if you can order to ship to home, I think is only store pickup, it depends on where you are at. Hope this helps and thanks for watching bud!
Will do! Thanks Wade!
is an alignment required after this?
Hi Katsya Rissha, According to the service manual, yes the car should be aligned. Thanks for watching!
What kind of car lift you have?
Hi John! Here is my car lift amzn.to/3yLRD2k Cheers!
Did you pry the driver side axle with an extension?
LOL yes I did! Part of the reason is that the extension has round edges which helps me avoid scratching of denting anything..
@@AlexAutoFun did it today. Worked like a charm. I was hoping you'd show how to put the passenger side axle into the half shaft. I can never get it to go in. I have to remove the entire assembly from the car and then separate. Same goes for installing it.
@@1221Ralph Awesome! glad to hear that, yeah I ran into the same issue too, for some reason sometimes it give me trouble getting in the snap ring to "pop" in place, sometimes it goes in real easy, it's really weird..
@@AlexAutoFun yes! I even used a new snap ring from the dealer and still had the same issue. All 3 times I've done the passenger side I haven't had luck popping off the axle from the half shaft. The driver pops off fine and goes on fine. Any other repair videos coming soon?
@@1221Ralph I know it’s been a long time but do you remember the part number for the snap ring?
You dont need to remove the tie-rods or remove both nuts to the strut
Hi Michael Martinez, your are correct, I seen different variations on the install process for this, probably a matter of preference with some having more or less labor involved. Thanks for watching bud!
wow, dont hit the tie rod out at the threads guys. bang the knuckle
Good suggestion 152speedstar! while I do use a mallet to avoid damaging the threads, I have to agree banging the knuckle is a better idea!
