- Homeowners John and Nicole bought a house that they thought was already fixed up and would not need anymore work. Soon after they moved in they noticed the tub shower was leaking through the ceiling! They called me to come out and see what was going on, and I found there was no waterproofing in the shower and there was mold on the backer board. Join us as we go through the entire remodel process...from breaking the bad news, to design, to final installation and completion. See below for links to other useful videos:

This is a really good video, Isaac! Pretty much HGTV level without all the drama or acting. Really enjoyed this video! You really have come a long way as a youtuber and someone I respect. Keep it up and thanks for inspiring us
Thank you! A lot of work went into the production/editing to get the right feel. This was such a fun project I am going to start doing more like it.
@@TileCoach you should for sure do more like this. Please stay away from the money temptation of HGTV or any of that nonsense. They will make millions and as well as you but THEY will time crunch your process and force you to take shortcuts. And destroy your self made image of quality.
@Tilecoach DIY TV series.
This is an awesome video/project concept. You're giving the homeowner an opportunity to not only design but also participate in the creation of their own space in the most deep and meaningful way possible through the expert craftsmanship of your crew and you. You've created so much more than a shower and bathroom.
@Anakin Skywalker nah you're high if you think contractors are regularly doing jobs the customer pre-assembled in their bedroom.
Isaac. I love this video. It shows what goes on in the process. Most people only know of the why need help, and then your videos showing demolition and construction. I love this that it shows what the homeowner goes through and the time it takes. And... the angst over the money aspect. Do more.
Whoa, Coach just leveled up!
I loved this format. Taking the customer end to end, then delivering an amazing design, awesome.
Please don't forget to keep the nerdy construction details when HGTV picks you up!
I haven't watched one of your videos in several months. Your narration and editing skills are really good in this video. Allowing the client to participate and save a modest amount of $ by doing the demo. Is both nice to see and very smart of you. It's a win win. 👏
Thank you for tubing back in! Glad you got to see it.
Loved this video and creation. The fact that you listened to your clients, let them create without hoovering, while also giving suggestions was just beautiful. Wish you were on the East Coast I'd hire you in a second. Fantastic job!!!
I’m completely amazed in the transparency in this video and the willingness of the customers to discuss their thoughts on the pricing.
This video is AWESOME 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
This is fake. Look at the intro. When they talk about prices they are trying not to laugh.
I am also a tile guy and run my own buisness but hands down I’d work with you In a heart beat thanks for the knowledge and helping the trade for guys like me…
Wow what a vision she had, she nailed the design! beautiful exactly what she described !
You and your team do great work. Thanks for sharing this story.
Isaac You are a great inspiration! I love the craftsmanship you bring to the game and your knowledge as well as your great and upbeat personality!
Thank you for putting yourself out there for everyone.Keep up the great work
Fantastic video price was a bit steep maybe 5k less for me but that's great work. Great work by the owners as well 👏
Well done video
When you exceed their expectations it makes it a little easier for them to write the final check
yeah quality work and customer service skills make all the difference
I wish Isaac operated where I live. He seems like an incredibly honest no bullshit no up-sell kind of guy.
Man I am too old school I still can't get behind not using a rubber pan liner and Deck Mud.
Seeing those seem joints with mortar underneath them knowing that mortar wick's water.... No way water dust behind that stuff.
BUT... Then again most people redo their showers every ten to twenty years and the shower will probably last a good six-plus years without any problems being noticeable. However when the shower is torn out there definitely will be mold and that's when you will notice the issues. 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
Install looked very nice 🙂
Have to say that is the 1st vertical subway tile show i've seen I actully like. The mismatched tile's look great!
Absolutely beautiful. That price tag definitely shocked them at first, but glad they're extremely happy with it
20 stacks is lot! Probably worth it because of the expertise. I'm glad that I was able to do my own. I used top of the materials. I even put in the moen u smart shower. I couldn't find plumbers who knew how to install it start to finish. My bathroom cost me around 8k, All DIY, so I'm sure 20k is about the average for a top of the line remodel.
Do you video for your DIY projects?
@@trungphan2550 I try, but I'm a small channel and don't get a lot of views, I'm going to record the frameless shower door install
I like how you gave the price then stayed quiet, always let the client speak first, great stuff 👍
You and your guys did a fantastic job! It's clear how happy your customers are, your team really listened to make a dream bathroom!
These are EXACTLY the type of clients I love to work with!!!
This is a seriously great video man. Props to the homeowners vision too. Epic editing. Well done. Much appreciated. From London UK.
I’m so glad the numbers are true and honest. Most homeowners think you’re trying to rip them off when you called anything over 10,000 for their bathroom
I like the going into customer interaction and overcoming difficulties I would prefer to see even more of that as a fellow contractor it's helpful
Very good video and a beautiful shower. Well done isaac and team
Love seeing your progress brother. I’ve been watching your videos from the start and you’ve come a long way. Keep doing what you’re doing. Can’t wait to start seeing you on hgtv!
While the work is top notch you must be in a very rich area. On the east coast we would be lucky to get 10k for that job. Nice work as always top notch
Tilecoach has a good vid on a kerdi system failure due to NO prefab corners were installed. Good detective work.
Are you trying to get a TV show with this new style of video format?
beautiful work of perfection
I like the wave effect that she came up with you you executed it very well
Tile coach. Another job done properly by a craftsman. Waterproof. 👍💪🌧
That foam bench is nice, finally nice to see a bench that water won’t crawl behind.
Love how this video was almost like a addict rehabilitation testimony 🤣 lmao our bathroom was broken so many cracks and leaks and this guy saved our life!!!!
Mitered edges, yes!! Nothing else compares.
Congrats on the 200k Isaac 👌🏻✌🏻
Super Awesome Issac.
Unbelievable price way over the top!
I know you guys are in Northern Cali but I'm not sure where exactly. I was impressed with the selection at the Floor&Decor store. After watching the lady's careful selection of tile, I think she would have been happier with a better selection of tile from that store. I hope I'm not stepping on toes but if you've been there, then you know.
When she pulled that first huge shard of tile my heart stopped a beat as it came down.
Yeah, doing the demo in shorts and a t-shirt.....😧
I really like the wave pattern on the wall. Nice job! 👍🏻
wow amazing as always ! you inspire me to be a better tile setter
I was hesitant about the design and colours in the show room but that shower turned out fucking wicked
Beautiful work! Always love to see the precision you apply to your projects.
would have loved watching you guys takin the tub through the house without damaging anything lol usually we just smash em up then bring em out, even the cast iron ones.
$20k…. Thank you for your candor in sharing that information.
So glad to not hear anymore complaining about California politics here , just an honest tile guy show casing his work .
Just watched your video. Bro I honestly love your energy I think you do fantastic work You're crude does fantastic word Man I don't speak for anybody but myself but I think you are very excellent at your job. Keep up the good work. From everyone here at j'z contracting services.San Antonio TX
As A DIY its hard to believe 20k for a bathroom is standard. Materials used here 3k-4k tops. Rest is labor. When narrator said this was the fasted underlayment placed, all I could think, his profit margin shot straight up. Well good for him and his crew on pat day.
I'm a contractor here in Oklahoma and 20k is insane for that!
Awesome 👏🏼 well done!
Beautiful work and an excellent video. I feel compelled to mention that seeing anyone demoing (wall tile, no less!) in shorts makes me cringe. Thankfully, it appears that she made it through with no new scars!
great vid. as a DIY'er it was cool seeing the homeowner do work.
Notice how the tile pulled away clean from the thin set on the wall. Back-buttering is necessary for proper bond.
Well darn it, we love you too Isaac and crew!
Wow! This turned out great!
Quick question - why don't you apply the floor membrane first, so the edge/corner bands lie on top of the floor membrane? Maybe it doesn't matter with this system, but would seem like good practice.
It maintains water retention in case any water leaks through the membrane.
Why didn’t he do the corner bands over the sheet on the foam pad is a better question, pretty sure that’s backwards. Supposed to lap from the bottom up. Lol
Insane the stuff you see out there. The problem is in how you communicate to the client, the difference between you and the hardi backer fella without sounding petty. You know they're telling their clients they build the "VERY BEST" builds.
Great vid Isaac. Looked like a fun project.
BTW, have you tried Cabot's foam shims yet? Foam board that's flat, plumb AND square!
3:19 the guy finding that quote hard to swallow. Dude was thinking under $10k and then signed off for a $20k bid? Just for a shower? I think that guy may have felt the peer pressure to say yes since he was being recorded. Should have called around to get a few more bids. $20k for a shower seems extremely expensive. Some whole bathroom remodel is about that price.
That's what I was thinking! Heck i got my roof replaced, including replacing several pieces of rotten plywood, for only 10k. And this guy would charge 20k just to tile a shower?? That's insane...That's why i end up doing so many projects myself haha.
@@timhahn7542 mine cost $22,000 So Cal
My vanity room was 21k plus. This one is way bigger the size than mine. I have doubt the installer or renovator does exactly the same style as the first installer of this video. Now I can see cracks from the window tile area.
That’s my 2nd fav shower I’ve seen you guys do Isaac, what a beautiful shower and amazing clean crisp edges, corners, etc….Awesome install! Nailed it👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much Aepek! That means a lot
We have similar problem in EU, someone dont use waterproof, even if we have buildings from concrete, water destroy cement plaster, and under tiles is a lot mold.
What had been the cost summary? Are these tiles that expensive these days? Also the Revolution Shower System (like others) What does that cost? 20.000 usd is a whole lot of money!
So wish ppl took their time and did jobs like was their own and really did fantastic job, like the install In this vid. Know everyone has “own” standards and 5 diff ppl can say 5 diff things, but hate when ppl say they just nit picky, when the tile job really is “bad” when “LOOK AT IT”, as anything looks good 6 feet away, but we shouldn’t do work based on that thought process, least it’s how I was taught☺️
Having an issue w/ a shower drain that was done by another tile contractor and all grout has cracked around it, lippage on floor tile is bad, and missing grout as well. Also no grout around perimeter and no silicone caulk for change of plain. The
drain, an Oatey brand 3 piece, is odd to me. Where grout is cracked by drain and tile, can insert my metal shim and it goes down around 7 inches (length of shim) and doesn’t hit thinset, dry pack shower pan, nothing and the tile cuts around drain looks like was cut blind folded, straight and level cuts in tile are absent, or minimal (most likely will be replacing for better fit). So, this $75k bathroom remodel has some major tile issues and skill level issues imo, especially at that price for a shower, bathroom floor, and tile wainscoting (all porcelain and all black grout). But that drain and lippage going into curbless shower is 2 problems that needs fixing along w/ missing grout and silicone caulk everywhere….rest well, tearing out and doing over not an option.
Anyone else ever have a drain issue like this? Where nothing to “hold grout” and keeps cracking &/or fall8mg out b/c of install? Starts at 1/8 and ends almost at ¼-3/8” grout line 🤦🏼 definitely not to my standards, but everyone is different.
Cheers✌🏻
Wonderful video.
Can I persuade you to fly to Honolulu to redo 2 of my home's showers???
Absolutely stunning work!
Beautiful shower. Great job, Steve
gonna hafta look into that revolutionary stuff. see how expensive it is.
Just Great men, God bless you !
For the $20k budget, any chance we can get a relative breakdown of project costs? Would this project be considered high end?
You're looking at about $4k to $5k in materials (water proofing, tile, glass door, hardware etc). And yes, this is up there with the high-end showers. I installed "fancier" ones with multiple shower heads, rain shower heads and smart controls etc. But the final cost always depends on how much of the materials are provided by the homeowner, whether you do the demo or not, what kind of tile you need to install and how much framing, plumbing, electrical and other things you have to do. It can get pricey really quick!
@@jordan2104 No matter how good any contractor is i would still get 2 or 3 estimate's :)
@@markplaton84 Of course, but you have to remember that usually, the cheapest one will get you the lowest quality. And when it comes to tile, quality and attention to detail are key.
Beautiful job as always! Nice work Isaac!
Beautiful, great excursion. Love you're vedios. Do you always use river rock on the floors because of pitch to the drain?
Thanks
Outstanding job!! Wish you were in Colorado
As always incredible work!
You make a mistake there you should put the bigger sheet of cloth first and over the top the corners to waterproofing right buddy
Been tiling for years here in Tennessee man i am doing tile showers way to cheap
20 grand for that???? I'm in the wrong area of construction! lol
Great job again Isaac! Love the solid foam bench . Like I said before , would be nice to have those products here on the Big island .
They do have them on Big Island
I've been installing this type of shower system on the Kona side for a few years now
I love the foam as well - and they used it on the curb (looking at my leaking curb). No more carpenters "helping".
I wouldnt trust it if you are installing a huge glass panel
Fantastic job brother!
Looks great…but, customer did the demo and came up with the design and then paid you 20k!!! I’ve always enjoyed these videos but wow, I really think you took advantage of this couple.
This was a masterpiece
10k to retile bathtub surround . . . . for 100 sqf of tile ,i guess 100$ per sqf for demo and new installation ...golden ;)
Wish you do work in SoCal area…. Would definitely hire you!
That has to be your greatest video so far this year Isaac! Love your content.Keep up the great work and keep carrying the pride of our profession!
Thank you!
You need to get on tv and do these as a proper show mate aha watched the lot
do you customers know how to or even safely demo thier bathroom?
very artistic, nice ,we like a few plants too
A cool video would be how to make a pan that has a standalone tub inside of the shower. Like do you still angle it or does the tub have to be on a flat section. Thanks!
Really nice shower coach
Why didn’t they just file insurance claim if shower was leaking downstairs insuriance would of paid for new shower just not cause of leak I would also go after builder or realtor they bought house from
Pan membrane should go on before the corner band in my opinion
Systems seem great, but there's a new one weekly. Doesn't seem like any are time tested. I'm sure they're all good, but it's getting so their reinventing the wheel every day.
Wish you did work in NEPA.
nice work but how's that shower door ,,its gotta be pretty unstable being hinged like that
Great videos, love your channel! But dude, 20k is a little excessive.
Beautiful bathroom.
Really cool vid
Wow hardie backer no thin set under it and no screws just wow can't believe it . When we do a complete reno or new construction the first thing is we screw down the subfloor with exteriior screws because 99.9% of the time the subfloor is nailed down now the subfloor is screwed down then thin set backer board then screw down backer and we always put extras screws in the backer no skipping these crucial steps......
Nice job bro! I do tile in North Carolina
Beautiful
Absolutely insane pricing you must make huge profit. I can see why DIY channels are growing like crazy.
