Not too bad running regular looking all season tires. You really need some AT tires for this kinda driving, probably can't go too large of a tire unfortunately.
Try and get some BF Goodrich mud terrains KM3s on it, I’ve had them on my old defender for years and they are great on road and are super quite and handle well in the wet! The KM2s were the best I found as a all rounder but the newer KM3s still work well and are a great tyre, they will make a massive difference to that Defender when off roading in mud!

When you got stuck trying to cross the ruts did you think of rocking the car back and forth by alternating between D and R ? You just need to build up some momentum and at the right moment give it more gas. In this case I would have tried going backwards. You can't do the D and R thing for too long as it can be hard on the transmission. If you fit tires like the BFG K03 you will see a big improvement.

Hi. Managed to get a ladder for mine from Grange South Woodford who were very helpful and they have also managed to get me a spare wheel cover. . Will you be doing a video on fitting wheel arches please. Great channel. 👍
Now you are just showing off ! So the plan this week is to get the car to the bodyshop to get the doors on the LHS fixed.... then we will do the arch fitting video.
Yes i have the Land Rover 18" steel rims on the way... they have some tyres on them but not sure they are good enough. K02 seems to be recommended a lot ! I also need to check i can get them on the car.
KO2's are all about toughness, if you plan going on a long overland trip with a heavily loaded vehicle the BF Goodrich tyres are great. For better traction than KO2's I would recommend Wargler Duratreck or Cooper St max tyres. They are 50/50 tyres have better traction offroad than KO2's and are almost just as tough. If durability is key go for them, if traction is key rather try the others.
Did you air down your tires? also the diver front guard looks like the plastic under guard cover came loose as it is sticking out a little which I saw at the end of your video. Great video though
No i did not want to reduce the air pressure as i only have 55 profile tyres and was worried about damaging my rims ! The trim is my fault - we have been pulling them off to test some new products etc
Thanks for your videos, both fitting and using, they are great honest stuff. I notice on this video you have fitted the front A frame protection. I am in Australia and information is fairly scarce here at the moment. I was tossing up between fitting a Bullbar (available from JLR Aust) or the Front Expedition Protection System which consists of A frame protection and the front Undershield. Are you going to do a video on the A frame protection?? Also does it strengthen the front enough, protect the radiator against an animal strike. I travel quite a lot in Australia and occasionally a kangaroo will jump in front. I hate hitting roos, not keen on hurting them and slow down, drive appropriate times etc. I have only hit 3 in 50 years of driving. I am not a big fan of the full bullbar and would like to know whether the A frame protector and Undershield could sustain an animal strike and allow the vehicle to continue without damage to radiator, engine bay etc. I have plenty of time to figure this out as I am about to order a new defender and delivery will be next April, will most likely fit all accessories myself (not bullbar, seems too hard and lots of cutting of panels) thanks to your videos. I will be getting off road tyres delivered and the optional rear diff lock. I don't think you have the rear diff lock? I think the lock will make more capable.
We have fitted the front protection thing ruclips.net/video/wQsFNiJ6Qks/видео.html Its great and should be part of the car as it forms a complete layer of under protection to the car and also leaves the front recovery hook exposed but i dont think it will help with front protection - but you should get it ! The thing I would be worried about is the front corners - there are radiators there and no protections ( see the front bumper removal video ). ruclips.net/video/lazo4btAV68/видео.html No i do not have the rear diff lock - I would for sure add that now although not sure how much it would help. The best addition is going to be tyres !
And speaking of a winch, might be a good video on how to install one on your own, if not an aftermarket one. Love these offroad video's btw. Keep up the great work. Might be changing my RRS 3.6tdv8 from '09 for a new defender, but i'm waiting for the new release ones coming down in price.
As I really hate mud😱😱 this was like a horror film for me to watch is there any chance we could watch one of you jet washing all the mud off the car under the car and Bonnet would be fun to watch
Did you get the damage repaired that your so called 'friend' caused to the passenger side? Would be nice to do a comparison in your Discovery 3 and 4 at that location. Really enjoyed the upload! Thanks Simon and Son 😊
The insurance the guy had in place has agreed to pay and its booked into the body shop ... waiting for the new doors to arrive. ! I will update on video. We have the green D4 on the road at the moment so George and I were just saying that could be the next video at this location !
@@L663 that's brilliant news on the insurance cover! Great, I'll eagerly await the Discovery video, Cheers. Oh by the way, would you happen to sell any Gloss black pre cut vinyl for the Discovery 3/4 for the centre door pillars? As standard they're matt and look a bit dated on mine now. Thanks again 😊👍
Wash off the lights and plate for the trip home so plod don’t have an excuse to pull you! Looked a bit fast on the steps, but it’s a fine line from enough momentum to too much speed..
Yes i am having a discussion on facebook with Adrian that ran the course and he has studied some of his footage and our Defender is bouncing a lot more than other cars...is the speed going into bounce ?
@@L663 I’ve always found less grip means you rely more on momentum. My D4 was rubbish on the slippery stuff until I fitted some better rubber. Tbh I’ve rarely used any of the off road modes on my discovery and am yet to select any on my defender even though mine has seen more off tarmac action already than most ever will!
Thanks for another great video. You didn’t turn off TRACTION CONTROL when you went up the steps ... You turned off DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL. DSC can reduce engine output, so it’s sometimes handy to turn it off, as you did. I agree that you definitely need to get better tyres. 🙂
Good question.... so far i am finding the brakes fierce.... almost too good ! The other thing is I have ordered the 18" steel rims so I need to be careful adding bigger callipers etc. I do dislike the sliding calipers on my model... a proper double / four piston fixed calliper would be nicer.
I can imgine this car in namibia desert or in amazon forest if broke something with a lot eletronic.Oh my good !! On brazil we call this land rover like lady rover its very expensive for off road and if broke something its very expensive parts on all countries.
@@L663 thanks, you do have to give it some welly sometimes as there is not a lot of low down torque in a vitara! so i use the harder right foot method, looking forward to seeing some better tyres on yours next time as a comparison.
can't wait to see the 2020 defender on some gnarly big off road tires. I think with the use of some decent offroad tires this thing will destroy anything that comes in his path.
Sorry, I wasn’t getting at you. I meant the original defender when going up the steps, it was skidding all over and I think with 15/20psi for off road driving it would’ve gone straight up. Great video tho, and thank you for all the reviews you and George are doing. Great work 👍
@@EJL110 No i am not offended...you are 100% correct. Actually i should buy a good compressor so i can reduce pressures on site when i have the 18" rims !
I am just the opposite. After seeing the KO2 prematurely wear, and countless tread separations, no thanks. There are many much better options, such as the Wrangler kevlar. He has the Grabber ATs on it now. The KO2 is very similar traction wise. The grabber actually has a deeper tread. By the looks of the mud you have to contend with you really need a mud terrain. I would suggest the Milestar Patagonia M/T. They are a highbred tire, that is crowned in the center to provide a quiet highway ride, but still be a good mud terrain.
I think its just a software update as far as i can tell.... I dont think Land Rover will but we are working on it. We now have "Pathfinder" working on THE STIG and have got the hang of some basic functions ( Pathfinder is the Land Rover dealer software ) but we have not got into the CCF files yet... ( CCF = Car Config Files ) and this is where we would be able to enable extra software features.
Jeez I couldn’t be bothered with all that button pushing just to keep going. Get a classic defender for £10k spend £20,000 on modding it with lift kit , axle locks , MT’s and refurb the whole interior, new paint will look brand new and lots of lovely off road stuff and will monster that new one and look uber cool while doing it and for half the price ,

No doubt that it is a Land Rover, no doubt that it is better than the old DEFENDER and in all respects, and I doubt that there is a 4x4 that is better than this, but, never land Rover should have called this model DEFENDER, this is my opinion! This car with 18 rims and 33 tires all terrain or MUD, is an authentic GOAT! And I don't say it because they told me, I say it because I tried it with mud, climbing wet stone, only sand was missing... And yes, at the same time were old defender, discovery, toyotas land cruiser, nissan patrol and even mercedes G! And, everyone was embarrassed(even me!)This small Land Rover, passed the tests, with top marks! But they should never have called him DEFENDER... Or maybe in time I'll change my mind. On the other hand, when land Rover appeared with the first DEFENDER, many complained! I'm Land Rover! And, forever...
I have some sympathy for your viewpoint..... its like having your pet cat / dog die and getting another one and calling it the same name as the old one.... it sort of feels odd.
You cannot turn TC off, so you mean turn DSC off? This suggests you don't really know what you are testing (or doing), you can only turn DSC off (and probably should) ...get your stuff together - you like many (about Land Rover) now are on a slippery slope of believability.....
Gareth you are of course correct on many things... I do not have a clue what i am doing but trying to work it out... ..I like the pun with "Slippery Slope" was that intentional ?
That’s not a defender it’s summer on four wheels with the name their defenders what are in the background signal box on wheels that is sorry but theThat’s what you call a defend
Well the car is a company car so its sort of someone else's.... but its a Defender and that's what it is made to do.... not just take the kids to school.

Technology OK, but not in the real world! Land Rover reliability is questionable at best. What happened to the KISS principle? In Oz, Africa, and other remote places this will not compete in the market Too complex, too expensive, too unreliable. OK to PLAY 4wd!
KISS is fine - but do you use a Nokia 3310 ? do explorers use a Nokia 3310 ? do people in Africa use a 3310?.. no they use more complex Iphones. Technology is not the enemy here... its basic engineering / testing and reliability... and I agree Land Rover need to improve these.

We have fitted the front protection thing

Its great and should be part of the car as it forms a complete layer of under protection to the car and also leaves the front recovery hook exposed but i dont think it will help with front protection - but you should get it ! The thing I would be worried about is the front corners - there are radiators there and no protections ( see the front bumper removal video ). ruclips.net/video/lazo4btAV68/видео.html
No i do not have the rear diff lock - I would for sure add that now although not sure how much it would help. The best addition is going to be tyres !
Excellent video as always top work👌👌👌
Looks amazing - great car. I guess in that terrain, tyre choice is going to make a big difference
Definitely!
pourquoi ne pas mettre de plus grosse route comme sur le disco 1, juste pour voir ?
La prochaine fois !
And speaking of a winch, might be a good video on how to install one on your own, if not an aftermarket one. Love these offroad video's btw. Keep up the great work. Might be changing my RRS 3.6tdv8 from '09 for a new defender, but i'm waiting for the new release ones coming down in price.
Keep watching.... some news on a winch coming soon
As I really hate mud😱😱 this was like a horror film for me to watch is there any chance we could watch one of you jet washing all the mud off the car under the car and Bonnet would be fun to watch
How about this one from the previous time

@@L663 Many thanks 😊
Tempted to pop up to the next one
Thanks for another great video.
You didn’t turn off TRACTION CONTROL when you went up the steps ...
You turned off DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL. DSC can reduce engine output, so it’s sometimes handy to turn it off, as you did.
I agree that you definitely need to get better tyres. 🙂
Ooops - I may need to put the hat of shame on again !
Any suggestions on brake upgrades? Or just painting calipers?
Good question.... so far i am finding the brakes fierce.... almost too good !
The other thing is I have ordered the 18" steel rims so I need to be careful adding bigger callipers etc.
I do dislike the sliding calipers on my model... a proper double / four piston fixed calliper would be nicer.
Brilliant video ! Have you done all this in low gear mode?
Yes we were in low ratio
I can imgine this car in namibia desert or in amazon forest if broke something with a lot eletronic.Oh my good !! On brazil we call this land rover like lady rover its very expensive for off road and if broke something its very expensive parts on all countries.
it was a great day, i reckon with some mud terrains it would have made the driving easier, my suzuki went everywhere the defenders went.
Your suzuki did really well and it was quick !
@@L663 thanks, you do have to give it some welly sometimes as there is not a lot of low down torque in a vitara! so i use the harder right foot method, looking forward to seeing some better tyres on yours next time as a comparison.
hi, which tires size can i fit on the car????
Hi - watch my latest video....
Good to see there was a Jeep rescue vehicle there for when you need it🤪🤪👍
can't wait to see the 2020 defender on some gnarly big off road tires. I think with the use of some decent offroad tires this thing will destroy anything that comes in his path.
We just got see - check out my latest video..
Thank God you got rid of that 'I love Leo Sayer' emblem from on the back square!!!
It will be back... in a more subtle form..
Where was this?
Outside of Bristol UK - for more info check out

What a great and well made video cheers lads
Glad you enjoyed it... its not a professional video.. just a record of us having a fun day out !
Bit early for crimbo jumpers isn't it!?
Its never too early for :-
1) crimbo jumpers
2) mince pies
3) go to bed
4) a pay rise
5) retirement
7:45 the tyre pressures are way too high.....
Yes i agree but with the 55 profile tyres and 20" rims i did not want to reduce the pressure... 18" wheels on the way !
Looks like a brilliant day out.
Please make sure though that your lights and reg plates are clear and visible when on public roads!! 😄
Time for some BF Goodrich KO2's.
Getting a lot of people suggest these
@@L663 Ever since I put them on my L322 I have installed them on my RRS, D5 and soon D90. Great tire. Highly recommend.
What tires are on your vehicle?
Hi - they are General Grabber AT 255 55 R20
Can terrain response 2 be retrofitted?
I think its just a software update as far as i can tell.... I dont think Land Rover will but we are working on it. We now have "Pathfinder" working on THE STIG and have got the hang of some basic functions ( Pathfinder is the Land Rover dealer software ) but we have not got into the CCF files yet... ( CCF = Car Config Files ) and this is where we would be able to enable extra software features.
@@L663 did you try the uphill cruise control? Wondered if it could have got up the muddier uphill sections without driver aid?
Jeez I couldn’t be bothered with all that button pushing just to keep going. Get a classic defender for £10k spend £20,000 on modding it with lift kit , axle locks , MT’s and refurb the whole interior, new paint will look brand new and lots of lovely off road stuff and will monster that new one and look uber cool while doing it and for half the price ,
Great fun glad you are getting your defender dirty
Those are not defender offroad tires
Loved the END :-)
I did too ! you just reminded me of that little gem !
Great vid, Just to let you know Bobby law man will have you, if he cannot read your reg. Hopefully the people running the place warn people before you leave.
Yes i keep forgetting this in all the excitement !
@@L663 Not only that it just looks cool if you just clean the number plates and around the lights and leave the rest covered in mud and then you can pose in the local supermarket car park.
have you ever thought about dropping the tyre pressure down to twenty psi when your off road.
Thinker by name and thinker by nature... we did think about this but with 20" wheels and 55 profile tyres i was worried about damaging my rims !
Great to see you guys there, thoroughly enjoyed the day and learnt a lot 😊. We liked the relaxed no pressure atmosphere. I’ll find your email address and send over the photos.
Hi Rory - yes its a good day out and nice to be able to get out and meet people safely in these strange times ! Send an Email to the email on the website and i will email back.
Its a touch screen screen George 🤣
What a fun video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is that a Christmas jumper? 😂
Why should fine knitwear be limited to only Christmas !
You guys need to get more aggressive tyres
Yes 18" wheels and some aggressive tyres have management approval ! I just wanted to test the current configuration to the limit.... just to show what the car in near standard format can do. When you look at the other cars on the course its pretty cool that the new Defender can join in the fun too !
@@L663 thats true and i myself love the new defender waiting for mine , and i love all of your guys videos
@@L663 can you not get the white 18inch steels to fit? And maybe goodyear duratec? Probably better than the Goodyear adventure, which is LR off road tyres.
Nice adventure ! 👍
Thanks! 👍
Hi 🙋♂️ very nice 👍 and interesting 🤔
Thanks 🙏
Thanks... yes we are really lucky to have our Defender in these strange times so we can have some safe fun outdoors. We were also very lucky with the weather. Glad to be able to share some fun with everyone ! stay safe and keep the emoji's coming !
My 2006 TD4 Freelander can do that easy and no shit electronics. I will come and show you.
You made a Great job of it . Perhaps these Electric Gizmos are worth it .But we didnt need all that in the good old days . But Great looking Rover -Well done
Too bad these new Pretenders are already breaking their electric gizmos. Lots of them are in the shop quite a bit for electronics issues.
Its true we had some gremlins and Land Rover took a while to get them sorted but my car is now running problem free... and I am trying to break it !
@@L663 Dont let no-one use for a weddings !
Can see Tyler's gunna be busy cleaning again 💦💧next week ? 😆
Harry is the guardian of the pressure washer !
Ma cossa ghe vedeo mentre guida?
...or take all the fun out of a little mud driving?
We had lots of fun... and drove home in comfort..
@@L663 Sure bud, it just seems like more work and a whole set of new issues, than just to select low range and gun it! Much respect.
That’s not a defender it’s summer on four wheels with the name their defenders what are in the background signal box on wheels that is sorry but theThat’s what you call a defend
never bring a street radial tire to a mudfight, just saying
I hear you...
It needs off-road tyres
That would be great fun in someone else’s car 👍🏻
Well the car is a company car so its sort of someone else's.... but its a Defender and that's what it is made to do.... not just take the kids to school.
You guys over there really don't have any challenging terrain.
Hardly a test for any of those vehicles in the right hands
We are new to this game... so starting on the easy stuff and working out what equipment we need to get the car set up...
Landcruiser 70 series still eats the new Defender for breakfast ...lets see how the new Defender performs on this Aussie beach - ruclips.net/video/fC3AynF7p6A/видео.html
You really need better tyres
Got some new ones arrive yesterday - check out my latest video !
Fun 😀
Technology OK, but not in the real world! Land Rover reliability is questionable at best. What happened to the KISS principle?
In Oz, Africa, and other remote places this will not compete in the market
Too complex, too expensive, too unreliable.
You need better shoes 👟
And all electronic stuff will break down one day. Total useless these airsprung computers on wheels in the real outback.
Driver is toooo baddd
Yes but Sooooo handsome !
