Good on you for taking the Stig down some pretty extreme tracks and showing that not all white domestic appliances can perform like a Land Rover. Hope the damage inflicted was not too bad. Some squeaky moments and safe offroading. Look forward to the FL2 antics.
Great vid Simon! What a day we had! That rock was super sharp!! Your defender did exceptionally well!! Looking forward to taking you out with the freelander 2 next time!!
Nice driving. I am glad someone is actually taking the new Defender offroad. The tyres seem to to be pretty crap i must say. Never seen such damage on BFG's running it in similar conditions for thousands of km on my Landrovers.
Simon…The Stig Rules! I’m guessing he is the most tested new Defender out there so far!! I do wonder though as JLR have a SWB Commercial with over 40,000 miles and 18 months old…it looks fine and is in super basic trim with steels…a bit too basic for me though! I think Stig needs a full valet and machine polish now…..or should he wear his scratches with pride?!!!!😀😀😀😀😀
What a brilliant adventure. There are those that say the new defender isn’t up to it. But this should shut a lot of folks up. Pity Goodyear didn’t come good on customer service. I was thinking about the duratracs for my Disco4, but I will now choose Falken Wildpeak just because of the way Goodyear have thrown you under the bus. All the best. Ty
Brilliant Simon, best L663 off-road video globally to date. Very impressive, especially considering you don’t have the 2nd auto locking E-diff on yours 🤔👌😊 🏆
@@L663 yes I agree and would like to understand. On the day we bought ours travelling back home in a snow blizzard the rear locking differential locked several times on the motorway 🤔
@L663 there is a guy in the UK that compared the L663 with locking rear diff and non-diff. The takeaway the Diff took less effort to accomplish the same goal.
Well that was a proper test and nobody can say you use it like a Chelsea tractor and you were along with proper off road people and terrain and the Stig did well and this is the most off road video yet that I have seen with the new Defender tested on.
I used Yokohama GEOLANDAR M/T G003's on a Disco 1 I used for RTV trialing for many years and never punctured a side wall. I've slashed a few up in quarries but they never went through. Unlike the Yoks, the Wranglers don't look to have a rim protectors built in so probably have quite a thin side wall in comparison. All hail the stig.
Hi - I tried to use AUTO but it is rubbish.. the parking sensor keep going off - I will do a video on that ... so i did most of spicy land on rock crawl !
@@L663 Well... They say that "a vehicle had damaged suspension", with which they want to illustrate how "hard the vehicles were pushed". They do not say or imply the damaged tire was on the Defender. Nevertheless, Goodyear should have replaced the tire: as someone else points out, it would have been terrific publicity. Thanks for the video, Simon.
@@L663 I think they have missed a very good publicity boost here, the tyres are labelled as being super strong for off roading, for the sake of £200 they could have had a first class advertisement.
probably a good idea to actually have a front numberplate! you are on public highways under the same regs as everyone else. if you can't run with it on, don't run on the highways. simple as. if you need to remove it where you actually need to use the winch, then replace it.
You need to get yourself one of those airbag jacks that all recovery services use. They need minimal spec to be used in and, you have the onboard airline to inflate it. Would make swapping wheels much easier when off reading or anywhere really.
Or… purpose made off road vehicle VS VERY expensive modern car with some clever electronic gubbins. Wonder which will stand the test of time… You pays your money and you takes your choice.
Definitely interested in how the FL2 will perform in God's country. Give us a heads up and I'll come and join you. I'm only a mile away from the old Bearmach site
Yes stuck in the middle of Wales with Mrs Powerful and no spare.... not sure she would be too happy. Other problem is no one else was driving a car with the same stud pattern....
Readers…whenever we see more keyboard warriors on Facebook repeating all the usual stuff about reliability and capability, we should repost Simons video after each post to show just how wrong they now are. Most are only blurting about older stuff after 60,000+ miles and hopeless servicing…all noise and showing off but not relevant to current JLR vehicles! 😀😀😀

Hi Philip - yes it was a challenge but as ever the stig proved it is very capable - and dont forget we do not have the locking rear diff !
I'm really happy to see the "new" Defender doing more off-roading! I have a set of BFG KM3s on my Disco 1, and I love them! Cheers!
I think they are the go to tyre for many people
Great vid Simon! What a day we had! That rock was super sharp!! Your defender did exceptionally well!! Looking forward to taking you out with the freelander 2 next time!!

Great video! Really curious what happened to that duratrac
Good question! - Goodyear are not interested !
I've been running goodyear wrangle duratrac on my discovery 4 for 3 years now and never had a problem or got stuck.
Goodyear are not a bit interested in that tyre - also odd that one tyre got totally mashed but the others are all OK
The tires let us down Boom Boom
Very good ! I missed this gem !
the stig looks very wide on those trails compared to the other cars. Is it a fact? Maybe it explains the punctures...? Cheers from France.

Did Goodyear really refer to the dislocated Disco1 spring as a cause for the perforated tire!?😂
Yes they could not tell the difference between the new Defender and the Discovery 1
@@L663 they are really savvy. Hopefully they know more about tires…

Would be interesting to see what stones (or what ever) caused all that damage to your tire!
I cant believe they did not replace that tyre! What did they think you would be driving on tarmac? Stay safe! Chris B.

Even in Wales ? you can only drive a 20MPH in Wales now....someone could cycle and catch me up and check my number plate !
Another good video Simon 👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks 👍
The West Wales Laners didn't give you much leeway did they?
Not really - but i was up for the challenge !
I’d go for Falken wildpeak as replacements.
You went the easy way!!
True !
Well done!
Thanks - to be honest the car does most of the driving skill itself !

Good point - I will take a look for one - so far we have managed without a jack on the recent Defender punctures just by balancing on 3 wheels !
They burst on sharp projections. You have to carry a thick rubber protector.
@@grahameroberts8109 Oh err............ 😂😂😂
Use the exhaust to inflate it.
won't work with the dual exhaust outlet pipes that the Stig has fitted as an extra

Would love to see how the Ineos Grenadier would do through all that. Oh well.
We will never know !
Never using Goodyear now …
Not really spicy - more overgrown 😂
I think"scratchy" is the technical term !
So... Range Rover classic it is then.
I do love the classic but not sure why you commented this on this particular video ?
I’d be scared to rub the tyre shine of my AT3,s on my P38.

Yes make sure you follow west wales laners on facebook - they will let you know when we go out next - and yes it will be in the Freelander 2 !
Boom Boom!! 💥 💥
Boom and indeed boom - we still cannot break the Defender !
It should be named ‘Spikey Lane’!
Those tyres are rubbish when deflated. Perhaps too much? Look for the Multi-ply sidewalls or Kevlar?
Apparently they have Kevlar side walls but the side walls are just too thin ! The grip is good... the road noise is good but i cannot trust them !

Good Morning Mr Virdi !
River? Do you mean a wee burn that I would take my wife’s mokka through?
OK fair point.... on the river..
That ghetto Grand Cherekee shouldn't be there. It didn't fit in. It should flip over and turn into a pile of junk it already almost were.
My Freelander can do that.
Maybe mine can too ! lets test it !
Spicy lane should be called simple lane nothing challenging about that at all

Morning Richard - it is true I have tried to break THE STIG but so far not really managed ! The car is very capable !
All those branches scratching your paint
Simon addressed this in Part 1. The Defender has extra tough paint, and apparently Stig came away completely unscathed.
