    Just bought a 2022 Frontier SV 3 months ago and love it. I’m a diehard Toyota guy but the new Frontier mops the floor w the current Tacoma. WAY better drivetrain for towing, quieter, much nicer interior, and a monumentally better driving position. Traded in my 2003 Tundra on the Frontier with no regrets.
    Toyota really let me down w turbo only engines in their redesigns and silly, overblown bro-dozer styling. Recent Toyota trucks have become cartoonish caricatures of their former selves. Thank you Nissan for making a sensibly styled, powerful, NA truck!

    • @WheresTheSauce
      @WheresTheSauce Год назад +1

      I wouldn't go that far but yes. The turbo only 1/2 tons are very annoying the taco DESPERATELY needs a redesign (especially for the price). When i test drove one it felt like i was driving my dads 2004 GM sierra

    • @thetinysideoftiny7625
      @thetinysideoftiny7625 Год назад +3

      @@WheresTheSauce On two different occasions I rented current Gen Taco’s to pull a 2,500 pound trailer from AZ to CA and it was a miserable experience. The engine has zero power until you get up over 3,000 RPM. I spent most of the drive with the accelerator smashed to the floor. Also, the trans never stopped shifting. Even on level interstates the trans kept rowing up and down incessantly.
      Coupled with the terrible driving position (butt on the floor, arms and legs straight out) it wore me out. What an awful truck. What happened to Toyota?
      For me, the great reliability and great resale value wasn’t enough to overcome a seriously flawed vehicle. I bought the 2022 Frontier.

    • @WheresTheSauce
      @WheresTheSauce Год назад +1

      @@thetinysideoftiny7625 thats the way im looking. The glaringly obvious colorado/canyon transmission problems scare me and the taco is insanely overpriced for what it is. Ranger can get lost with its boosted engine. I live in canada where it gets COLD and boosted engines dont have good track records in the cold. Looking at forums and FB pages the nissan looks like a reasonable, comfortable, reliable vehicle.
      Its funny, first thing the toyota salesman in the dealership did was brag about the taco resale value. I told him "im not buying to sell, im looking to buy the right truck for me that will hopefully last me the next 15 years" i jumped in and for the price i was not impressed. Seats are low to the floor and puts me in an uncomfortable possition, engine is loud and a very rough ride.
      I need a vehicle thats comfortable on a long highway for work, gets reasonable mileage, decently reliable, does a little offroading, and can tow a comfortable 2500lbs of toys for the weekends.
      I have a test drive with nissan tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞

      @thetinysideoftiny7625 Год назад +1

      @@WheresTheSauce Here’s how I ended up w a 2022 Frontier SV 2WD LWB (long wheel base).
      My 20 year old Tundra had 225K miles and it was time to replace.
      New 2022 Tundra was twin turbo, had crazy dealer mark-ups and overwrought bro-dozer styling. All deal-breakers. Esp. the turbo.
      The current Taco had an anemic, wheezy drive train, endlessly shifting transmission, terrible seating position, and had very pronounced cabin noise. No Toyota’s for me :(
      Colorado and Canyon have had decade long bad reliability…I mean really bad…so they were out.
      Ranger, although crude, had exceptionally good reliability as per
      Consumer Reports. However, I felt that was going to be short lived and long-term reliability would be very poor. Maybe I’ll be wrong but I wasn’t willing to chance it.
      Maverick, Santa Cruz, Ridgeline not real trucks so scratch those three.
      Who’s left standing? Nissan Frontier. Naturally aspirated V6, loads of grunt for towing my 4,000lb trailer. Gem of a drivetrain.
      Quiet, very good ride quality, Nice modern interior with great fit and finish, great driving position, smartly styled, reasonably priced,
      And the Frontier has had a long standing record for Toyota-like reliability. A no-brainer.
      Flaws? A few - poor turning circle…especially on the LWB model. I need 5 lanes to do a u-turn. Mediocre gas mileage 20/22 MPG, and mediocre value for the money. I feel like I should have gotten a little more for $40K. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

    Nice review, hope to get an SV King Cab next year. Awesome spot for your background and cool front license plate mod. How has the interior held up, squeaks, etc.... Never owed a truck, its a better size ( for me), and will be only non turbo engine left in this size.

    • @ChrisGramm
      @ChrisGramm  Год назад

      Thanks for the kind words!
      The only squeak is the driver's seat. The left hinge got a bit squeaky so I gave it a little shot of silicone PB Blaster and fixed the problem. Everything else still looks new after 22,000 miles

    I just reserved a 2023 Pro4x Premium in Boulder gray. It's due to arrive at the dealer this week and I'm excited to own a truck again, it's been a while. This will be my 3rd Frontier, so I'm an old school fan of this platform. I appreciate the reliability and overall solid performance this truck offers and I think Nissan got this redesign almost perfect. There are a few 'comfort' features I wish it had, given the price... better infotainment software, a telescoping steering wheel, more driver seat adjustments, a long bed option would all be nice to have, but overall it's the right mix of old school and modern.

    • @ChrisGramm
      @ChrisGramm  Год назад

      I whole heartedly recommend anyone looking to buy a new mid-size truck to consider the Nissan based on my experiences with past and current Nissans I've owned.
      I had the 2015 Titan and never had any issues with anything after 88,000miles. I have never been pissed at Nissan about any of my rigs. The only issues I've ever had was my brand new 2004 Pathfinder Armada cracked the driver's side exhaust manifold after about 45,000 miles. The only issues I've really heard about Nissan having was a bad batch of rear axles about 10 years ago because the breather vents were clogging. And there was something about the 5.0 Cummins that was going on, but I didn't pay too much attention to it since I was only running gas engines. So any info about their direct injection is something I'm unaware of.

      Are you referring to Nismo lift kits? There are a lot of companies who offer lift kits. I'm not sure if they're all going to improve the ride that Bilstein shocks. The Koni shocks that Alldogsoffroad gave me are a definite improvement!

    Anyone know where the front tow hooks could be purchased OEM/aftermarket? I’d like to get the black set. I’d need the part that opens for the tow hooks as well. My 2022 Frontier CC SV has the body for it having the tow package and all, the screw points on the under-frame are there as well but no hooks. Smh.
