They can come in through very small openings searching for warmth. The larve are in earth worms in the grass. Only certain areas of the USA and Europe are affected. My advice . Flies, so this often happens when a mouse has died and it takes just one fly to leave her eggs, maggots turn into flies, hundreds of them. Just a thought. Your mouse could have died.
I'm so happy for you that you figured out your problem with the cluster flies. I hope the rest of your journey here in the US is wonderful. Safe travels.
We had this happen in a brand new house! We learned it was a special kind of fly that reproduced really quickly. As soon as they land they lay and egg! We had to fumigate! And it worked!
Hi, i came across your comment on this channel section and I liked how intelligent you are and decided to ask if you’re interested in making wages (money) via passive income from gold or the stock market
You guys!!🤔😅 I have to admit I was introduced to you when Frank ... combusted . Your van set fire . Oh my . The scene where lovely girl fled from flames. Mega . Total action movie . Wow. Emma !!!!.
I had a bird die in the walls in our house, my fly issue was not as bad as yours but it took me 3 weeks to finally get every last one out. Fortunately, they were newly hatched so they were very sluggish and easy to kill. Oh, the joys of sharing the earth with tiny monsters!
I live in the U.P. of Michigan. We get cluster flies every fall at our cabin. It lasts for about a week or two then they’re gone. I need to vacuum in front of the sliding glass door or lamps at least 4 or 5 times a day. Very annoying but it’s a short term problem. Luckily they don’t bite!!
It's the area of the US you are in. Shortly after you were in the UP and Wisconsin, I traveled through there, in my van, on my way back to Colorado. I was shocked at the flies in WI. As I traveled west, the flies diminished to almost nothing. Hope you experienced the same!
They just love the refrigerator vents. Take off the trim, use RESIDUAL SPRAY,!! Then get some aluminium screen material from a hardware store and trim AND fit around ALL entrances! We call those things ‘clumping flies’ here! You won’t get away from using a residual spray!!!
I’m so sorry for this yet another bad experience!!! I can’t imagine the amount of cleaning you had to do over and over. At least it’s not a massive space 😅. Your the cutest couple and I hope the rest of your stay here is awesome!!!
I always have a can of spam in my cupboard. I take the block out of the can, score it with a knife and put cloves in the scoring. Then you mix about a 1/4 cup of brown sugar and a little vinegar together and pour it over top and bake it until it is hot. While baking it, I make sure to keep spooning the brown sugar mixture over it. When hot, remove the cloves (do not eat them) and slice using the brown sugar and vinegar mixture over it. I love it, but I was a country girl growing up, and back then Spam was cheap my mother did this so we kids would eat it.
Years ago in older vehicles the glue and adhesives used to build them was made with something that attracted fly’s and other small critters, the auto companies didn’t find out until later.
Perhaps you could do a defogger or 2. The mist would get in all the nook and crannies, kills the adults and the eggs. Wonder if the mouse died in the walls and that's the attraction. Hopefully not but whatever it is I'm sure it's annoying.
I think they maybe cluster flies that come in to warm areas in the fall. It is quite common in North America to have them every where! I lived on a farm and these flies found every small crack in the house!
That is what I was thinking. I live in the northeast. One morning I came downstairs to hundreds of flies on my window and curtains. Cluster flies are slow, so I exterminated as many as I could and opened the door to let the rest fly out. My buy guy told me a nest must have been nearby (under our deck), they hatched, and came inside to get warm. It was gross.
Ahhh beans, your campervan luck has got to change for the better now, I've never seen that many flies anywhere at one time, hopefully you can start enjoying that van now🤞🙏
This time of the year flies get what I call sticky. They are looking for warmer places and tend to stick to things and slow down. I hope you get it worked out.
You are the “Lord of the Flies”! lol 😝 I bet you can’t wait to wash all of your linens to get the chemicals off. I’d have to get the van detailed before I could handle sleeping in there again. It’s really annoying to deal with this kind of stuff! But, I’m so glad that you’re safe and can continue with your USA adventures.
Check on the outside, underneath and on the inside walls to see if you have any holes. You can get this stuff at Home Depot called Pest Block. It is a spray foam product you can use to fill any voids. It really helps. It also helps to have a small $35 shop vac to suck up stuff like that to get it out of the van.
I’ve have the same issue, dead rodent in the walls, then flies flies flies. Right now dealing with it. You can buy from a B &Q type shop aerosol canister you close all vents. Push trigger and it locks on . Leave for two hours. Then get in and clean , we’ve had hundreds. We’re down to a few now. Good luck
The flies are bad everywhere, I live in a small West Texas town close to the Border of Mexico and this year has been the worst I've ever seen with the flies! We go outside to cookout with family and friends but the flies love BBQ's. For some reason everytime we cook out we get swarmed with flies. I have physical therapy at home and my therapist told me that our house is one of the one's with less flies she said some patients have so many it's hard to get the therapy done! Lol.. Good luck and Stay Safe ❤️
Reminds me of our gnat infestation camping in Florida many years ago. I feel your grief! Never get an RV with slideouts, bugs will come in the little holes when the slides are out. 🤥
The flies were always a factor for me not wanting to vacation in Michigan - couldn't wait to get out, actually. When staying on Lake Huron beaches once, we couldn't stand still for one second because of the biting black flies that swarm you as soon as you stop moving. Then there are mosquitos, chiggers, etc. Really sucks sometimes!
2 things really got me in this episode 1st Im so glad you figured it out! What a relief that mustve been. Now Id be concerned about the chemicals sprayed all over. But 2nd...it looks like you may have gone past my town, going from Milwaukee to Austin on the hiway my town wouldve been the last one in Wi before crossing the Mississippi into Minnesota. To bad you couldn't have stopped as this is one of the most beautiful in the area. PLUS when you were in Austin my brother in laws craft brew pub is right across the street from the SPAM Museum! I totally agree SPAM is gross 😝 Happy travels!
I’ve battled fly infestations for several years in my house. They show up suddenly in large numbers, and leave just as quickly. There is no rhyme or reason to them. Best thing I found to combat them was spraying Home Defense to the exterior of the house, especially around doors and windows. Good luck to you two!
Because we have cats, and over the counter flea medications no longer work where we are, we had a huge flea problem on and off for several years. We flea bombed and sprayed the whole house multiple times with only a small amount of success until someone recommended a prescription flea med called Bravecto. This has worked like a charm and despite the insanely hot summer this year, our cat (and I, fleas love me!) have remained bite free. But I felt just as disgusted as you two when they were a problem, so glad they're all gone now! I'm glad you both also got on top of your infestation!
Open the windows and spin a tee shirt around until a lot are outside. Then put a little bit of soapy water in a little cup. Flies always take off going backward so just come up behind the ones on the ceiling and they will be caught in the soapy water.
We had a fruit fly infestation this summer at the store , I work at which doesn't have anything fruit flies are attracted to in it .. it drove me nuts to the point I was ready to quit my job over it. It had me miserable After a month we found out it was caused by the building next to us had a garbage hoard going on inside it..so I completely understand what you both were going through .glad we both are now bug free ..
God what a crazy infestation!! This summer I had a horrible sugar ant problem in my room and it drove me to tears. I’m a neat freak and hate bugs, so this was an anxiety attack and a half. Didn’t quite resort to a motel but I definitely spent many nights at a friends house during it 😅😅
Get yourself an electric diffuser and some lemongrass essential oil...put water and oil in diffuser and let it run...do this everyday...it will make camper smell nice as well!!!....also peppermint essential oil works well too!
Good to know for others out there. So basically it was a swarm of flies that decided to make your campervan their home. So glad you finally got rid of them all. What a relief that must have been. As far as the hitchhiker mouse, it could still be there so don’t let your guard down just yet, lol. Stay safe and happy trails😊
I am so happy that the two of you figured out what was up with the flies..... I was worried that maybe you had a dead mouse or two that the flies were feasting on and breeding in!
I watched the Beans and Endless Adventure van swap in their last video and left a comment saying I hoped the flies weren't too bad. They replied that it was worse than they expected, I can now see why 😱
Good to know that the fly situation is just temporary (hopefully! 😁) Where I live in Texas, invasive red Japanese beetles invade our homes in February and March. They look like lady bugs 🐞 without spots. They're everywhere! Dying in massive heaps on the windowsills and corners of rooms. I often thought about going to a motel, but they would be bad there too. It helps to know it's only temporary. The same thing happens in late summer/early fall with black crickets, which fill parking lots and driveways. It reminds me of biblical plagues!
Oh my what an experience! Made me think of one of mine... I think it's been about 10 years ago now, I returned back from a holiday while my parents were still away on theirs. The kitchen was full of flies. I started a war agains them but had a hard time winning. Also had no clue why these flies were there and ALSO realised there are different kinf of flies and mine in question were deathflies. So, something was dead, somewhere, in the kitchen?! After a few days, in the middle of my war, I decided to watch a movie and make some popcorn in de microwave. You will never guess what I found in there... Defrosted chicken my mum put in there before they left on holiday. She was planning on making chickensalad sandwhiches for the road but totally forgot about it. Yes. Stinky smelly disgusting chicken in the microwave for f*cking weeks. Anyways, keep on laughing about stuff like this!
Unscrew your door panels and check behind them. Especially the ones on your back doors. That huge amount of flies back there seems to say that's where they're coming from. Good luck.
What a nasty experience guys but I'm not sure which was worse lol the flies or the pouch of spam 😅 I defo wouldn't have eaten that. Lol glad it's all sorted now though.
Wow, those flies really looked like it -bugged- you. Regardless, this was a great vid and sure to create some -buzz-. Also the two of you seem like you can handle a lot on the -fly-. (I'm SO sorry, my dad joke urge was too strong.)
You should check behind the back door panel to see if there are any fly in there. If the last person had nectar or hummingbird feeders on the van the sweet smell will attract the fly's again.
I was sure you would find a dead mouse under the carpet… We, on the other hand we’re stranded on the Knepp Estate in Sussex FOR A WEEK waiting for a mechanic to fix the broken water pump on Einstein, our 1990 VW T25. If you are going to be stranded this was the very best place with more than 1000 acres of wild sussex with red deer, longhorn cows, kingfishers and STORKS..just returned home after 2 weeks camping and reaching Rye and Dungeness. Carry on Campervanning..without flies!
Apparently the flies became so bad the mouse couldn't take it anymore and abandoned ship. ;-) Hopefully you've considered washing and cleaning surfaces, towels, bedding, etc. after spraying everything. You wouldn't be the first to not think of it but better late than never.
I have had the same problem in my house. You have got a nest or two in the van. You need to find any nests and get rid of it! If you don’t, they’ll keep coming.
Feces from that mouse is a breeding ground for flies. Get a fogger at Home Depot or Lowes. You may need to vacate the van for several hours. Good luck. We full timed RV for 14 yrs and yes we had mice. Traps worked. And steel wool in any cracks , like on our slider, worked, and rope lights underneath helped. Every 4-6 months we would use the bug foggers. We stayed forv2 months in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California and redents, squirrels probably, ate thru our diesel line causing over $2000 in repairs. Glad you are coming West. Check out Quartzsite, Arizona in Jan or Febuary. Google the dates for the events.
Please consider this. One slice of Spam well fried in skillet. One slice of wheat toast buttered and halfed. One egg over easy. All stacked and runny ! Delicious !!
if you're in an agricultural area, then flies will be a problem. chicken houses, cattle farms, hay pastures that are fertilized with manure..your gonna have to deal with them. love you guys
Boy I have never saw that many flies in such a small area. Oh feel bad for you both . Heck of away to spend your trip. Get a few of those fly sticky stripes you can hang up. . You may want to consider going to a car detailing. And take everything you can out of every storage areas in the van. If you can leave at detailing business they can possibly have a way to sanitize with a steamer or something they have. Also by having a detailing place do the cleaning they can get all the knooks and areas with cleaning solutions.
In the Eastern panhandlers of WV, its stink bug infestations. October is the worst time, cause that's when the corn comes off and the stink bugs come to your house. If you open your door to go outside, they rain down upon you like something from a horror show.

ANYTHING WITH YOU IN IT EMMA IS AWSOM GOOD LUCK GUYS
OMG I WOULD HAVE LOST MY SH*T with those flies! Well done getting rid of them. Happy and safe travels!
I’m so sorry for this yet another bad experience!!! I can’t imagine the amount of cleaning you had to do over and over. At least it’s not a massive space 😅. Your the cutest couple and I hope the rest of your stay here is awesome!!!
Aw I feel for you guys. You need to pull everything out to look for the maggots source x
Your US trip seems to be a variation on the ‘The Plagues Of Egypt’ - fire, mice, flies .... hopefully will all go smoothly from now on. Cheers 8-)
I think they maybe cluster flies that come in to warm areas in the fall. It is quite common in North America to have them every where! I lived on a farm and these flies found every small crack in the house!
Yes! thats what we found out at the end of this video. We were tearing our hear out before learning what fly they actually were.
It was gross.
so many chills! and I swear the RUclips went to an ad every time you guys went to open the back door and check for "readies" ....oh the suspense!!
Well done Fly Terminators!!! Well Done!!!! Moving on!
awesome job attacking the flies, cant wait till the next episode. be safe, drive safe, and lots of love to you both.
wow… you two have had one helluva time living the van life in the US! I admire your persistence!!
Ahhh beans, your campervan luck has got to change for the better now, I've never seen that many flies anywhere at one time, hopefully you can start enjoying that van now🤞🙏
Hey Beans! When I lived in my tiny RV I learned that peppermint essential oil is a good rodent repellent. Glad you got rid of the flies, yuck!!
That was horrible. Glad you figured it out.
You two are quickly becoming my favorite van lifers. I'm praying for you. Haha.
As a resident of Michigan, I agree 🤣
@@tmoney586 I forgot to mention midges too, something they're familiar with. Then there's the brutal winters, but that's a different story 😄
@@tmoney586 ditto. I've been run out of the UP before by flies. The biters
I was crying laughing so hard when you opened the Spam Single. So many gross things to love in this one!
Oh wow.. what a pain… don’t know how you two still kept your sense of humour… safe travels.. fly less i hope!
I totally agree SPAM is gross 😝
Happy travels!
I'm glad you guys seem to have solved your fly problem. I was about to suggest burning them out, but figured you might not want to go that route.
I’ve battled fly infestations for several years in my house. They show up suddenly in large numbers, and leave just as quickly. There is no rhyme or reason to them. Best thing I found to combat them was spraying Home Defense to the exterior of the house, especially around doors and windows. Good luck to you two!
I had one lay eggs in my house. Took forever to get rid of them.
You guys should consider doing an "Alex Tries American Canned Foods" series. It would be hilarious!
God what a crazy infestation!! This summer I had a horrible sugar ant problem in my room and it drove me to tears. I’m a neat freak and hate bugs, so this was an anxiety attack and a half. Didn’t quite resort to a motel but I definitely spent many nights at a friends house during it 😅😅
Cluster flies are a pain in the arse! We get them in our attic every winter. Along with the other houses in our village.
Thats what I thought too .
I watched the Beans and Endless Adventure van swap in their last video and left a comment saying I hoped the flies weren't too bad. They replied that it was worse than they expected, I can now see why 😱
I laughed outloud.....never seen so many flies!!!! I hope you get it under control!
Go to a Tractor Supply Store and buy the sticky traps for flys. Have them hanging every where and you should catch a bunch.
Good to know that the fly situation is just temporary (hopefully! 😁)
Where I live in Texas, invasive red Japanese beetles invade our homes in February and March.
And they stink and bite
Maybe the mouse didn't go away, and now the flies are having a feast.
Check your sinks too, larva are practically indestructible. Also check under everything!
Get a bomb spray get two can and set one in the back and one in the front turn it on come back the next day but you'll have wash you bedding and stuff
Wow, those flies really looked like it -bugged- you. Regardless, this was a great vid and sure to create some -buzz-. Also the two of you seem like you can handle a lot on the -fly-. (I'm SO sorry, my dad joke urge was too strong.)
Are you sure the mouse had left and not died??
And that would be a reason for all the flies 😬
Yeah, thats what we thought at first but there was no smell. We actually find out at the end of the video the type of fly and why it wasn't the mouse.
You should check behind the back door panel to see if there are any fly in there. If the last person had nectar or hummingbird feeders on the van the sweet smell will attract the fly's again.
I was sure you would find a dead mouse under the carpet…
We, on the other hand we’re stranded on the Knepp Estate in Sussex FOR A WEEK waiting for a mechanic to fix the broken water pump on Einstein, our 1990 VW T25. If you are going to be stranded this was the very best place with more than 1000 acres of wild sussex with red deer, longhorn cows, kingfishers and STORKS..just returned home after 2 weeks camping and reaching Rye and Dungeness. Carry on Campervanning..without flies!
Apparently the flies became so bad the mouse couldn't take it anymore and abandoned ship. ;-)
Hopefully you've considered washing and cleaning surfaces, towels, bedding, etc. after spraying everything. You wouldn't be the first to not think of it but better late than never.
Sounds like the mouse is still in the van but has died & the maggots have hatched hence the fly invasion
Yep !! That’s what I’ve said……….flys hatch from maggots
6:54 I actually thought that fly was on my screen!!
To answer your last questions, Yes, Yes and Yes! Loved it, Awesome/Horrible experience.
Ha! Ha! Even the flies hated Spam singles slices.
So don't feel downhearted, Alex.
You guys are so funny. You bring so much to me when I watch you. BEANS OUT!!!
if you're in an agricultural area, then flies will be a problem. chicken houses, cattle farms, hay pastures that are fertilized with manure..your gonna have to deal with them. love you guys
We occasionally fry Span crisp as an alternative to bacon, or sausage with eggs in the morning.
Used to live next to a cattle ranch. Flies were terrible. We used to hang up those sticky fly strips and they worked great.
YUCK!!! Make sure you wash all of your bedding and wipe down everything. You might want to shampoo the carpets too. Those chemical are nasty! Best yo you Beans!
