I bought this one because of this stellar review and I was instantly hooked. What a brilliant game. It took me hours and hours to just get past the first dungeon because I just loved the cycle of collecting loot and selling it!
I have never really seen a channel as big as yours actively interact with the community even after weeks of releasing a video. Keep up the good work and obviously I am going to be plating this game a lot.
Not me. I'll pass on this. If you pay close attention to the review, you're basically a slave who work 24/7 with no sleep. You start working during the day and dumpster dive at night. The night job could cause your life. To torture you, the game only let you carry a woman purse just to watch you make hard decision on what items to abandon. They'll let you upgrade your gears but not your backpack.
Just the small clips in this video were enough for me to know that this is a video game soundtrack to add to my "listen at work" list! Great review, loved the tone of voice you used throughout this one! It was like sitting down next to the hearth and listening to a good old fashioned story.

It's a really nice and addictive game. Even bought it on discount so can't complain. The first dungeon was a hassle, but i made it through. Now I'm in the dessert and it is making me moooooh. But I upgraded my defense, now I must make it quick out. Yo, I'm the king of moonlighter. Let's make rynoka proud!

I think I missed this review back when it came out! I loved playing Moonlighter and will go back to it to this day. A lot of fun dungeon crawling to gain items and then going through the pricing run as you try to find the right price to sell your items!

I just got the game. The grandma with the wheat on her back scared me because she went right toward the fire place before running back out. I THOUGHT SHE WAS ON FIRE DUE TO THE WHEAT BEHIND HER HAIR!
I bought the complete edition of this game yesterday and I am enjoying it so much..it has a learning curve IMO but once you get the hang of how the game works then it's really fun..I've been finding myself saying "ok,one more dungeon run and then I'll go to bed"..well,it's more like 3 dungeon runs and THEN I'll go to bed hahahaha..I didn't think I'd like this game,so I didn't get it when it first came out on the Switch..but I saw the complete edition had a good price on the eshop right now so I decided to give it a try..I'm so glad I did 😊
Purchased this game as soon as digital pre-order was available. I haven't played it yet but my top tier franchises are Zelda and Animal Crossing, so a no brainer lol!

This reminds me of Recettear : An Item Shop’s Tale ... the indie JRPG where you play as a shopgirl by day, and delve in dungeons by night to stock your store. But that game was so obscure they probably didn’t influence each other at all. (I’m probably the only person on earth who bought it, lol.)
SwitchUp - PC/Steam. It sold pretty poorly. Googling around, it looks like I was (shockingly?) right because the official Kickstarter page for Moonlighter says Recettear was a main inspiration. Moonlighter has the exact same premise. But the games are not the same and Moonlighter obviously had a MUCH higher budget. I’m glad to see this idea actually taking off on Switch, because I liked the premise a lot.

i have a theory on why games are being overpriced. i think we have the 'discount' section in the store to blame. i have been noticing lately that nearly every single game ends up in here after a very short period of time. The new game gets the top slot in the 'new' section...after a week its off the list, then with a 'sale' price , immediately at the top of the discount list. Its not really a 'sale' . many off these games have already made the dev its money on steam or other platforms. what i do love to see is at least devs making the game the very best it can be. like you said, this had many bugs, but its a definitive version. that makes switch unrivalled and all the games i have on it, i will treasure the console as it has all the best versions of games on it. Theres about 150 games at all times on sale. so i have to admit..i just wait now. i can wait 😂. except for a few must have's.
The sale strategy on the eShop also goes like this: game gets forgotten and buried in the eShop and won't be seen unless specifically searched for... So they put it on sale, sometimes 90% off, etc. This gets a lot of copies sold and it ends up in the "Best Sellers" list for 2 weeks. So then it goes back to full price but still has that visibility, and some people buy it at full price simply because they see it (and that it's popular) and probably don't realize it was just on sale.
Just started it, for a 2d pixel art game, the load times seem a bit on the long side. Feels like 10-15 seconds when going in/out of dungeons. 😢 Maybe Switch Pro will remove all load times from games like these which don't seem like they should require more than a second in 2021.
Hello person thinking of buying this game. Just to let you know this game is NOTHING like Zelda or Animal Crossing. It's completely different and has it's own flavor. You should check it out. Lots of fun. Inventory management, rogue like dungeons, shopkeeping, chill music, unique and original art style.

Sorry Mark, I am a box type of guy, I have a few downloads that I have to play but must have the box version if I want the game, getting an expensive hobby this gaming I still think downloads should be below £8 after all no physical value added in production, transport ext, I expect Nintendo has already calculated the cost of server's so they will never be on a loser, my biggest grip is games like megaman or Sega Ages being released again and again at way over inflatable prices, come on guys £4.99 for these games i had them all on the original Xbox but I have to admit Xbox does some fantastic cheap classic games. Nintendo needs to look into this what you think??

Just got through it (on my phone). It was fun while it lasted... But damn was it short and easy and damn did the ending suck. Multiple endings, á Chrono Trigger, would've been a good idea if you wanted to have a New Game + option (where the difficulty might be higher: I just didn't gaf after seeing the ending). As far as the story goes I'd sum it up in one word: "shallow". A better stand-alone sequel would be cool to see though. The different game elements blended nicely, the music was nice etc. It just felt like an unfinished game.
For all the reviews of Moonlighter this is the best one. Even finally I will purchase this game. Now I have to decide if going for the phisical release $33 on Amazon or the Digital on the eShop for$24.99. This game looks amazing for my personal taste.
As u took the words out of my mouth, if I like Zelda, Animal Crossing and Story Of Seasons and games with risk reward systems like Xcom and slay the spire... Which are all my fav games, this is for me lol

beautiful review. this looks like a hidden gem. you had me at 'binding of isaac'. The boss fights look like the ones in 'enter the gungeon' too. There is a lot of mechanics working together here, could have been a total mess, sounds like they nailed it.

The Zelda esqe parts of this game look interesting to me, but the store management stuff does not appeal to me at all. I have never been able to get into games where you have to like manage a town or farm or whatever. Like I hated animal crossing and all that Farmville stuff that was going on years back. I may try it if it goes on sale because parts of it look really fun, but I'm really afraid the shop management mechanics will ruin it for me..

I remember reading game manuals before playing them! Ahhh those were the days 😊 I have this on PS4 but came across a game breaking bug. Emailed developers and they did put a patch out and fixed it but I never went back to it. Games like these though, I will love them on a handheld but won't b bothered about them on a console for some reason. Sheltered is a great example for me. Might have to give this a go on the switch to do it justice

this is a beautifully put together game. i love the review too. i keep running into this same problem though with these amazing games coming to switch. the old Double Dip issue. i have and love this game on PC. it is becoming difficult to judge which games to just play and love on PC and which to double dip for switch. it used to be i just got the ones i really liked on PC for switch but now that is getting out of hand and i need to be a tad more selective. what do you guys think? is moonlighter definitely worth the double dip for portability?
Funny thing is, I spend so much time on the Switch eShop that when I go to Steam on my PC I'm like, "Wait, that game is on PC too?" I mostly get games like this on my Switch and keep my PC for more demanding titles that need a beefy video card or look better at 1440P. Switch is for Nintendo exclusives and indie games.

I don't really understand the Animal Crossing comparison, but I've had my eye on this for a while now and it's something I plan to get.

This game is on offer as a bundle for just over £5 in the e-shop right now, and i decided to grab it based on this review.
Just started it, for a 2d pixel art game, the load times seem a bit on the long side. Feels like 10-15 seconds when going in/out of dungeons. 😢
Maybe Switch Pro will remove all load times from games like these which don't seem like they should require more than a second in 2021.
Been thinking about picking this game up, but it was your review that finally sold me on it.

Hello person thinking of buying this game. Just to let you know this game is NOTHING like Zelda or Animal Crossing. It's completely different and has it's own flavor. You should check it out. Lots of fun. Inventory management, rogue like dungeons, shopkeeping, chill music, unique and original art style.

Sorry Mark, I am a box type of guy, I have a few downloads that I have to play but must have the box version if I want the game, getting an expensive hobby this gaming I still think downloads should be below £8 after all no physical value added in production, transport ext, I expect Nintendo has already calculated the cost of server's so they will never be on a loser, my biggest grip is games like megaman or Sega Ages being released again and again at way over inflatable prices, come on guys £4.99 for these games i had them all on the original Xbox but I have to admit Xbox does some fantastic cheap classic games. Nintendo needs to look into this what you think??

Just got through it (on my phone). It was fun while it lasted... But damn was it short and easy and damn did the ending suck. Multiple endings, á Chrono Trigger, would've been a good idea if you wanted to have a New Game + option (where the difficulty might be higher: I just didn't gaf after seeing the ending). As far as the story goes I'd sum it up in one word: "shallow".
A better stand-alone sequel would be cool to see though. The different game elements blended nicely, the music was nice etc. It just felt like an unfinished game.

For all the reviews of Moonlighter this is the best one. Even finally I will purchase this game. Now I have to decide if going for the phisical release $33 on Amazon or the Digital on the eShop for$24.99. This game looks amazing for my personal taste.

As u took the words out of my mouth, if I like Zelda, Animal Crossing and Story Of Seasons and games with risk reward systems like Xcom and slay the spire... Which are all my fav games, this is for me lol

I'm sold but will wait to see if it goes down in price slightly, can't pay a premium for a game that's half the price on pc already. I'm also over pixel art, it looks good but these games can look so much more amazing with cartoon/comic graphics. Great review.

Which puts me in an akward position, as I must present to you a grievance of some sort : now I'm even more conflicted that I was before watching your reviews of Bastion, Transistor and Moonlighter, as I can only buy one, and you sold all of them really really well! Not to mention, I'm tempted to go through more of your reviews, but that might make it even worse! Anyway, thank you :) P.S. It gets really chaotic, for sure. Yeah, haha sorry about that one!! I basically couldn't say don't buy either of those lol. Personally, I would pick Moonlighter as it's a game you can put 5 minutes or 5 hours into. It has more longevity than those but they offer a better story experience. Decisions, decisions! (Mark)

beautiful review. this looks like a hidden gem. you had me at 'binding of isaac'. The boss fights look like the ones in 'enter the gungeon' too.
There is a lot of mechanics working together here, could have been a total mess, sounds like they nailed it.

I bought it last year alongside the DLC for around £5. Great value and good fun. It would've been much better if they NPCs were a bit more engaging

The Zelda esqe parts of this game look interesting to me, but the store management stuff does not appeal to me at all. I have never been able to get into games where you have to like manage a town or farm or whatever. Like I hated animal crossing and all that Farmville stuff that was going on years back. I may try it if it goes on sale because parts of it look really fun, but I'm really afraid the shop management mechanics will ruin it for me..
That is the vast majority of the experience to be fair. - if you don’t like the idea of that then i would give this a miss. Mark

I remember reading game manuals before playing them! Ahhh those were the days 😊 I have this on PS4 but came across a game breaking bug. Emailed developers and they did put a patch out and fixed it but I never went back to it. Games like these though, I will love them on a handheld but won't b bothered about them on a console for some reason. Sheltered is a great example for me. Might have to give this a go on the switch to do it justice

this is a beautifully put together game. i love the review too. i keep running into this same problem though with these amazing games coming to switch. the old Double Dip issue. i have and love this game on PC. it is becoming difficult to judge which games to just play and love on PC and which to double dip for switch. it used to be i just got the ones i really liked on PC for switch but now that is getting out of hand and i need to be a tad more selective. what do you guys think? is moonlighter definitely worth the double dip for portability?

Funny thing is, I spend so much time on the Switch eShop that when I go to Steam on my PC I'm like, "Wait, that game is on PC too?" I mostly get games like this on my Switch and keep my PC for more demanding titles that need a beefy video card or look better at 1440P. Switch is for Nintendo exclusives and indie games.
