- I get so many emails from people asking if I will go over their MRI images in attempts to figure out why they're having chronic pain, that I decided to make a RUclips video and explained the whole procedure you need to go through, in order to speak with me. This is an in depth look at my consultation service, which I call a coaching session. You will also learn about my journey through life after suffering a failed spine surgery.

I used the service and it opened my eyes enough for me to decide to get a second and third opinion. I suffered from severe lumbar degenerative fish disease with modic changes as well as well as Isolated lumbar disk resorption. One doctor suggested a three level laminectomy. Another a four level laminectomy. I luckily was able to find a surgeon, within the Kaiser network, that suggested a bilateral laminotomy at one level. It took over a year for me to recover but I’m a so much better. I can stand up straight and can walk Long distances with no problems. In addition, I haven’t experienced any spinal instability although I’m only 4 1/2 years post surgery.
When it comes to spinal surgery, LESS IS MORE! You can always go back for more surgery if things get worse but once they take out 3 or 4 lamina, they can’t put them back in.
Disk disease not fish disease. 😂

Dr Gillard, Your motivation and back story to educate about these health conditions is remarkable and then to progress further by providing coaching and consultation very well deserved. I only have one question today, would it be fair to state that a high quality MRI is not predictive of any symptoms or pain and that is why consultations and examinations should be done prior to declaring a given condition such as Incomplete Cauda equina syndrome ? Much appreciated for any comments.
Great question. You are correct. MRI (no matter how high the quality) is only a piece of the puzzle of pain. You must use MRI findings in combination with clinical (orthopedic, and neurological) findings and then the history of Injury. Only then, can you make an evidence-based decision on what the pain generator is and then what to do about it. I have a RUclips video coming very soon that is going to drive this point home :-)

I being stressing about getting surgery but ...my neurologist willfully didn't properly diagnose me ,an 3 opinion doctor diagnose me thru several tests, I m busy trying to get a second opinion neurologist by an other hospital. But doctors here in Netherlands being difficult to give me another refer letter for a second opinion, I have scoliosis, piriformis and Brachialgia, because the neurologist didn't put that information on paper, she only put scoliosis and neck slatage i (which my neck leftside neck is curved that's why i always have neck pain, and i always have stiff neck. She tried fooled me that I have to pay for my MRI pictures 🤔when it's free at by the receptionist, makes me realize I'm being taking advantage of, so I pray to God that my next appointment with my help assistant that I will get the proper care. I had to watch all your videos. Like that i learned of the truth from all the symptoms I'm suffering of right now. No one told me the truth they only say I have muscle problems and try to give paracetamol....It's being sense 2012 im fighting for the proper diagnosis I know what really wrong with me, and 3 years receiving pain injection by the pain clinic. but it only last for 2 months and it doesn't help during the 2 months when I recieved the last injection now in L5 nerves.
