Ford is infinitely better than ram now. I admit the ram is the best looking and has the best engine, but imho everything else on the truck is garbage. I’m a duramax owner but I had two generations of 250s for 350k mi. So very familiar with them.
I've owned all three HD trucks - Silverado, Ram and F350 (my current truck). The Ford turned slightly tighter. I would still take the Ram over the other two, primarily for that exhaust brake and real world fuel economy and that medium duty engine, where the other two will always be light duty truck engines. Prefer the Alison in the Silverado/GMC but the Aisin is no joke. They are ALL GREAT trucks these days. Pick your preferred brand and be happy with a great truck.
The 6.7 powerstroke is used in the f750 (medium duty truck). I agree with you on the exhaust brake. I drove a Kenworth with a 15L cummins isx while the motor is great the emissions has given me nothing but problems and I only have 630,000 on it.

Ford looked to win by more of a margin than I thought. I was looking at where the trucks were parallel facing backwards. I would still rather take the chassis cab Ram though.
I have never worked on a Cummins that isn't losing the number one cylinder after less than 100k miles you can tell who works on cummins when 2 months later the black soot still stains their fingers from excessive blow by.
If you look at the side by side, the Ford had a couple of feet advantage at the 180 degree mark. This is what's going to matter the most when turning. But still amazed at how tight both those behemoths turn.
Much tighter turning radius on the Ford. Look at how far each is at the 1/2 way point. The Ram is much further into the parking lanes on the left vs the Ford.
Back in 2014 I started hot shot driving all over the country. I bought a brand new F-450 Lariat and had it deleted with 28 miles on the odometer (Texas resident). A lot of the guys I worked with did not delete their trucks mainly because of the states they lived in. Anyway, I am still driving that same F-450 which now has 628,049 as of right now when I checked LOL, and I am confident I will hit 1,000,000 on this baby in the next couple of years. Same engine but did a major overhaul at 400,000'ish. The transmission was rebuilt at around 510,000 and it is still going strong. The front end has been essentially replaced twice, and I just replaced the muffler for the first time. Gone through a couple of radiators due to rocks mainly, but just regular maintenance and AMSOIL oil since day one. In fact, I use Amsoil for everything from transmission fluid, brake fluid, oil, radiator fluid....all Amsoil. My associates and friends that did not delete their trucks are on their second and even some on their third diesel trucks at this point. The EPA has destroyed the diesel engine. Anyway, great video and love your content.
I absolutely love the hauler bed. I think if I ever get a new truck I will go with a hauler bed on a 450 or 4500. Love the look of that bed. Thanks for sharing this truck with us!!! I do believe that the Ford did have a tighter turning radius. The best way to look at that was the comparison at the apex of the turn. It wasn't by much but the ford did win. But that said, I'd be for sure looking to get the Cummins and Aisin transmission combination. I test drove one with that combination and the power was unbelievable. Thanks for sharing this JD!!! Pat
The Ram with the Cummins has always been slower than a Powerstroke. The reason being that the Ford Diesel is built off of a V8 block. The Ram is built off a proper true Semi Truck inline 6. Semi trucks aren't fast because they are built to tow heavy loads. Hence Cummins in ram, a true Semi engine.
Thank you for sharing your comparison test with a viewers truck. It does look like the Ram has a longer wheelbase which could affect the turning radius. Have a great day!
Agree that Ford won easily at the half way point. I have a 2019 F-350 dually, and I won't bother commenting on my turning radius. You would need a parking lot twice that size you used for your test. Both are very nice trucks, but I'll stick with the Ford.
Both turn very tight, but it looked like the F-450 was tighter because the F-450 was just inside the white lines and the Ram was half way over the lines at the half way point
I bet Ford wins the turning radius. I seen a 450 turn and Ford has a really good radius. Now I own a Dodge 2022 350 dually, quad, AISIN transmission, Like my truck a lot.
Honestly, ram wouldn't have that truck as an option if ford didn't force them to build one to complete. Can't go wrong with either one, however you'll save on fuel with a Cummins. Let's not forget ford actually makes there own engine. Great video.
I am a ram owner not that I am complaining,I do believe that JD'S Ford won the turning radius test not by much though especially in the middle of the turn test! You certainly can't go wrong with either truck!
I seen some other folks who were looking for a truck to pull there 5th wheel and they watched your channel and ended up getting a F450 after looking at other brands that's because they loved the turning radius and also cause it's a FORD
Just so you know...the F450 with a bed is not a class 4 truck. It’s a class 3 like the F350. If you want that you will need a chassis body F450 or 4500 Ram. I’ve been full time RVing for years and a F350 or 3500 series DRW truck is all you will ever need. This Ram 4500 is overkill for a fifth wheel RV.

Ford definitely had the better turning radius you can tell when you made your first move awesome. Hey Ram was just as close but like you said if I had a choice it would be the Ford because of the mirrors . The only thing Ford can do to make it better is they power the curb mirror and that would be great 👍🏻
I was rooting for the Ram, but I'm pretty sure the Ford won that by 3 feet or so. Doesn't matter the turning radius of a vehicle, it should always return to its starting spot if executed correctly .
If Ram came out with a 10 speed and the 10th gear had an OD ratio of .58 & paired with 4.88s that truck would be a monster!! Put some 265s/19.5s will be like 1610 @60mph
Someone failed geometry!! Let me start by saying I hate fords. But If you make a complete circle, both trucks should end up in the exact same place but that isn’t going to measure turning RADIUS. You should have stopped both trucks after completing a 180. That would’ve given you the radius. And from your drone shot, unfortunately the ford won by what looks to be about half the width of the trucks. So like 4 ft or a 2 ft radius
I know this is an old video, but I'll stick my nose in it. When everyone talks about how tight something turns, they always seem to say "the turning radius", you make the turn and measure the "diameter". In this case, by using the visual of the stripes on the other side, the Ford did win by at least 2'. Big RV guy didn't want to hurt the feelings of the other guy. Or he liked the Ram so much he wanted it to win. Who knows?

Yes, the halfway point is the true indicator from a geometry perspective. Any truck can turn a full circle and come close to home again, but the distance from start to full halfway diameter is the measure. Ford wins. And I am a RAM owner.

I think it’s a pretty clear win for the Ford. They both went over the line on the second half of the circle but they finished about a foot or so different. But for real life driving (because who makes a double U turn on the road) the Ford wins by a landslide!
I personally do not think the cummins is what they use to be,not that they are not good engines and I say that primarily in regards to emissions. Cummins got their legendary reliability from the class 8 trucks and the cummins hasn’t really held up to their legacy since the N14. I have a Kenworth with a 15L Cummins isx while the motor is great it is nothing but consistent emissions problems, constantly coating my farm and airlines in a white film. The emissions stays getting worked on probably once every two weeks, not really sure what’s going on,only have 630,000 engines great power across the power band great, but the new X15s have had issues as well. I just don’t think their engines are what they use to be,I definitely think Ford has caught up the new powerstroke is designed to go 500,000 miles without any serious issues. Anybody needing me to sit the info I can if needed. Just not understanding the kool aid on the people buying cummins outside of the aspect of working on it yourself, which most dont, and the engine brake.
One other thing to consider. The Ford diesels are just about unserviceable. That engine is shoehorned in. The Ram on the other hand you can work on. Alternator, Serp belt water pump pump ect all easy to get to. The Ford is a joke. You literally cannot own the Ford if you have no warranty. Being a mechanic you cannot give me the Ford.
At the halfway point the Ford had a tighter turning radius by about 2.5-3ft. This was not made clear in the video. My bad.

450 got it
One other thing to consider.
Ford for the win....as usual 😊
Who says you can’t brag about a few inches. I’ve been doing it for 30 years
Ford was tighter in the turn drone showed that clearly
Why would you even compare this?
The F450 won the turn, definitely.
I'd say overall, they tied.
Ford won, halfway Ford was closer = tighter turning circle.
