This is 100% of why I come to TFL, that 2020 comparison of all three manufacturers is still being referenced on many other RUclips Channels. We need More of this.
People don't understand how badly giant tires kill the power of a vehicle. Even going from 35s down to 33s wakes up the power. Those 41s look amazing, but the truck could greatly benefit from a much steeper gear. 4.88 or steeper would be preferable.
Youd be suprised with the 10 speeds these days. They dont need real low gearing bc the space between gears is short. Ive got 37” on my 22 with 3:31 gears and honestly it does great. If i pull 8k or up i just put it in 9th and it doesnt have an issue.
@@BennyG Less than 3 up that hill specifically. I'm sure your CAT isn't getting that 4-10 up that mountain. In general though I agree. The right sized engine for a specific job will have the lowest fuel burn.
@@BennyG Your cat 3406e will no doubt last many hundreds of thousands of miles, if not more. But it's not getting better mileage up this grade while pulling a 'tiny' load of 30000lbs. Getting the same mileage would be quite a feat for the Cat, actually.
That's one big Reason this truck deserve a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating ‼️ It's an OFF Road Crawler for pete's sake 😲 ‼️ And it can Haul 27 thousand Pounds 😳❗ AND can Rise it self like the Best Swamp Trucks . . . Give me a Break 🙄 // 😎🤙
It seems a massive error to us factory differentials intended for the factory tire height. The new tires are 30% taller! At minimum youre down 30% of the mechanical advantage. This setup is a high output engine and corrected differentials away from being ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! I love it so much.
Very cool! Our company just did a 44in super single conversion on our F450 single cab. Talk about a monster. Plus, the single cab gives the truck an insane turning radius. We just produced our first video on the project.
I know this channel mainly reviews new trucks but I would love to see you guys mix it up and compare some older trucks to newer ones. I'd love to see either a vp44 or common rail 5.9 cummins, a lb7 duramax, 7.3 powerstroke, etc.
Ford does not offer the 6.7 high output or the 6.7 standard Pickup Engine in the cab and chassis models including this f550. Ford uses a 6.7 that is Dyno tested and has different parts including a cast iron egr Vs the standard aluminum in the pickup version
I would like to see this thing go from North Phoenix up to cordes junction in the summertime.... Now that's a towing test because beginning🌡️is about 120° & 110° when you get to your destination + 1 hell of a climb! 1,100' elevation up to 3,700' elevation... Where I'm from (phx) 73° is damn near cold 🥶 lol 🤙💯👌
I'm a professional truck driver and with cummins engine in either kw or international with 12 speed transmission pulling 30,000 in the Midwest states we are getting 8-9 mpgand that's running 68mph
I’d love to see what would happen if you lowered this kind of weight onto a Maverick! 😂 they would need to contract out Whistling Diesel for that test.
You know ive done 24k lbs in my 06 f350 single wheel on a 9% grade now it is moded and make about the same as a new HO and it held the speed limit with my foot on the floor temps where great and the down hill with the trans was great not that much braking needed
I hope you guys do this exact test with a stock F550 to show how inefficient heavy mods like huge tires + stock gearing, kill performance. I love lifting and modifying trucks, but when its a truck that needs to be used for heavy duty work, those mods are just pointless unless you like cruising the malls
The 35 mph down hill and braking was fine, but going up there is no special speed limit for rigs. And it was pegged out at 35 mph and had nothing more, bigger tires and the wrong axle gearing effect that massively. I've lifted and modified lifted trucks for decades and unloaded they are fun, but when I fully load them I always wish I left them stock.
With a 10 speed, all those words you said are meaningless. Worse case scenario, the truck would operate as a 6 speed while towing With a 10 speed transmission, gearing is virtually meaningless
I wasn’t aware that ford had a commercial version of that motor and that it differs from the f-250. Wonder what they do differently to call it commercial vs non
So I know the tongue weight is a concern, and the farther forward you move that truck on the trailer, the more weight will be on the 550's frame.... But with that load flung so far to the rear, what did you do to make it ride so stable? I would have expected that thing to be flapping around like a fish tail. Is that why the axles at the back of the trailer seemed so far apart; to help with that?
I’ve watched you guys from the very beginning and there’s a certain magic in how you all collaborate and turn out excellent quality. I like all of you, but my spot on favourite is Ken, aka Mr. Truck, especially when he’s teamed with Andre, as they are hilarious, but professional, in providing the details. Everyone is great!
Actually impressed with how it done considering the tires, weight, gearing ect. Wonder why it didnt want to downshift from 5th thought until the very end. I would have thought it would have downshifted to get into the HP a little more.... wonder whay the time would be if you manually shifted it down into 4th or 3rd for the run?
It’s close to a semi truck, however you can’t get over the tires and turn radius your truck will always turn better than a semi since the tires are much much smaller as well as height being low to the ground (compared to a semi) so you have to worry less about high center of gravity, also you don’t have air breaks so breaking is completely different for you.
Mr Truck and Andre is the best team we can have, thanks. I dont know what you normally say in US, but I think its nice when you say we instead of I, my or mine talking about the truck, because Mr Truck is also taking deal of this testing, good luck😊
I've towed 28,000 pounds with a 30 foot Gooseneck flatbed trailer up a 7% grade with cruise set on 55 in fifth gear in my 2019 F450. Only deviated by 2 mph.
My Saturday here in Central Idaho wouldn’t be the same without Andre and Mr Truck. This was a great episode for me as I’ve been following all the 550 coverage at tfl. I am considering a single wheel conversion for my new full power- power stroke f450 pickup. But, after leaving multiple voicemails on the elevation sight, I have never received a call back..todays episode has me thinking a gear swap should be included in one of these conversions to keep the performance where it needs to be for pulling. Thanks again for such a great video.
Curious what load those tires can handle. It seems very high considering single tire rear. The reason there are two tires on dualies is tires have weight limits too.
The engineer said to use cruise control on the downhill. Hopefully you use it on the factory truck test. Why not downshift when it's going that slow up
This was very interesting but i would like to see you guys do an Ike with stock chassis cab trucks with de-rated diesels and compare the Ram vs Ford vs Chevy
they arent derated. EPA requires EGR open at WOT. pickups aren't required to do that. you can only feed so much fuel when 25% of your air has no oxygen to burn.
Very happy I found your video. Now I know I can take a 5500 and pull 30,000 pound equipment and trailer easy. Wanted to ask what company you use to purchase the rim and tires?

It is on the commercial chassis which not only means it's not a high output, but it is actually detuned from the regular output. Edit: I made this comment when Mr truck first made the high output comments. Andre later clarified the numbers with this engine.
A lot of people dream of having a Lamborghini, Ferrari, or Porsche, but the Elevated Grid F550 is the vehicle I would pick if I was rich.
I say this every time the topic comes up. Most would pick a super car. Without any hesitation I’d pick my ideal SEMA diesel truck build.
I'd go for a Shelby F350 and then go for the MegaRaptor treatment
And get one in a different color for each day of the week.
You got that right brother!
I’m taking an f-250 6.7 Godzilla 💪 🇺🇸
They don't put the high output in the 550's because of the higher duty cycle a commercial truck is expected to be able to run at.
The people at Elevation have impeccable taste. This truck is stunning.

if the odometer is off so were the MPG readings. Did they not readjust the spedometer? It was going faster and at higher MPG
As far as I know ford doesn't have the program out to adjust 21+ wheel speed sensors my 150 is off by 3mph at 70 on 35" tires

Severly downrated horsepower @ just 330, compared to F250/350/450 versions, so it pretty muck runs on torque alone !!
