It is for light hauling. What gear ratio did you get on your 350 Dually? What is your pro's and con's. Do you pull trailer? Would you choose 350 again?

    38k combination weight rating. Not bad. Definitely know your limitations though ladies and gentlemen. Also when that heavy DOT is more likely to check you on your knowledge safety overall compliance even though you are not "for hire". Theyll scale you for each axle as well. So know your gross axle weight rating for each axle. Cat scales are handy and less expensive than a ticket.

    Frames and front ends on Super Duty’s were alway better on average than other makes, for example tow trucks, when the F350 custom chassis for tow trucks used to be called F450’s in the books back in the late 70’s and 80’s they didn’t say it on the truck but that’s what they were. Even today if I need a work truck I wouldn’t buy anything but a Ford, in my opinion, the suspensions and frames are still better than the competitors until you get into a true commercial chassis.

      I enjoyed the power of the new 2020, but the transmission is the real difference maker in my opinion. I felt only a minor difference in power honestly with the F450 since the 4.10 gear ratio dampens the feel at higher RPMs.

      Big Truck Big RV Yeah true with the bottom 5 gears being so close it exploded off the line but I do find there is more power in low rpm with the 2020 in 10th then the 19 in 6th

    In today's pickup world, massive tow numbers get tossed around in conversation to the point that most people don't have good perspective of how much weight this really is. 30,000 lbs is a staggering amount of weight to put behind a pickup truck and nothing to be taken lightly. It wasn't too many years ago when the only people that pulled that kind of weight were farmers and ranchers, and many times they needed to have the truck in 4wd low in order to generate enough torque to move the load. Casual drivers and weekend RV enthusiasts would be well advised to stay away from extreme weights even if their truck is capable to performing the work.

    I think that 2020 F450 your driving has a total weight more like 40,000lb. My 2018 F450 King Ranch weighs 10,060 for a full tank of fuel and then said the trailer was 30,000. Just making a note.

    • @crutler
      @crutler 4 года назад +2

      Plymouth Man after looking up the operating weights of the trackhoe and loader they together are 23-24k plus that trailer is 8-10k depending on length. I’d bet that truck weights 9-9500. So gcwr is closer to 42000. But either way there’s no way they’re pulling 30k maybe 31-32.

    JD, just curious about the turn radius with the wider front axle on a F450. Have you ever done a comparison of the turn radius of the F350 and F450? I would like to step up to a dually for future load carrying capacity if/when I upgrade my fiver. The turning radius of a crew cab dually has been a hang up, but if the F450 turns tighter, that could be a game changer for me. (Especially since I’m a diehard GM fan!)

    The only issue I have with the new fords, specifically the 350, is the 35,750 towing rating for the dually is that it needs a 4.10 read end with that 1050ft-lbs, vs the duramax which is rated for 35,500 with 910ft-lbs and a 3.42 (both having the same trans gear ratio wise). I get the feeling the new powerstroke is going to be wildly overstressed to get the job done here

    • @james2042
      @james2042 5 лет назад +2

      @@notafuckinpplperson8233 Truck guys get so wrapped up in rear ends. "Oh this truck doesn't have a towing rear end, it can't tow". It's about ratios and torque multipliers. A 4.10 or 4.30 was needed when your first gear was a 2.90 or 3.10, but now first gears on these 8-10 speeds is in the 4's (the ford/gm trans has a 4.69 first gear) meaning that a new truck with a 3.42 has a much lower first + final gear ratio than old trucks with a 4.30. My point being that the ford needs a 4.10 rear end with a 4.69 first gear to move the weight the chevy does with a 3.42 (which ford can't touch with a 3.55) shows to me that the 6.7 powerstroke is significantly limited in low gears, vs the chevy which isn't.

    Question:
    I have a ‘19 and I use the exhaust brake while towing a 16k lb fifth wheel. What is a safe rpm window to keep it in? Also, I noticed when I’m through breaking and on to accelerating, the exhaust brake holds for awhile as I accelerate. It honestly doesn’t seem that it is good for the engine.

And would the extra features/ higher packages really be worth it on a truck being used only for camping. Our F250 XL gas gets the job done if we stay out of grades. But it isn't near as comfortable as our F150 king ranch/ grocery getter. Looking to trade them both in for a 450 soon. Do we go XL,XLT for lower miles, or King Ranch with higher miles?

    But I say it once again. My biggest complaint with my 2017 450 was the 4.30 rear end. I wish Ford would offer a 3.73; even if it meant a reduced tow rating. For us camper pullers towing 18,000-20,000 lbs., a 4.30 with all this monstrous power is total overkill and unnecessary. I love the look, brakes, and front axle of the 450 over the 350 but in my opinion, the 350 tows campers better on the interstates.

    Thanks JD for the great video on the F-450. I have ordered the new F-450 Platinum with the tow-package and 5-wheel hitch. Looking to get the Solitude 310GK GVWR 15,000. My question is, can the F-450, payload capacity hold a 50-100 gallon Transferflow tank with the pin weight of the RV? Thanks Charlie

    How did the truck feel on the bumps? Were you satisfied with the feel of it? Could you tell any difference in the engine sound versus the previous? That's a nice trailer as well, what was the specs on the trailer, looks like it might be a little longer than 40', was it?

      Overall the truck felt very similar to my 2017 F450. Shifting seemed a bit more seamless because of the 10-speed. The ride felt identical

    JD. Thank for this video. Looking at a F45O to pull a 21000 pound trailer with a listed pin weight of 3910. I am assuming that actual pin weight could be as high as 4200 (25% of trailer weight). Will the combination of the F45O and this trailer be pushing the payload limit?

    Love the videos! Can you tell me what tire pressure your running on those tires? The max 110 cold? What do you run on your F-450? I have a F-450 and there seems to be a lot of confusion on what tire pressure to run on these tires when loaded vs not towing. Thanks

    I believe you stated previously that those are not "Alcoa" brand wheels since 2017, instead Ford outsourced to a "Chinese" wheel maker. You should call them "Chinese Aluminum wheels" in your videos as Ford does not deserve the "Alcoa" reputation if they are not that. The switch to Chinese wheels really bothers me, maybe others too. I always appreciate your efforts to be very accurate. Thank you for your videos.

    It can tow a bunch,but what's the cargo capacity? The truck camper we are looking at is 5k dry weight.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 5 лет назад +1

      I had no idea campers and truck cargo capacities have grown as much as they have. A 5k camper has gotta be massive, and yeah like you said if you want to tow with that (likely needing a hitch extender) you really have to be careful how much weight you’re towing.

    I drove one two weeks ago and the steering feels like a worm gear as opposed to my 2019 f-250 Platinum with the tow package. The 450 was much worse keeping it in the lane because it seemed to wander compared to my truck. To me the 450 was not as relaxing to drive. Just my .02. But my truck could not tow 30k.

    • @JC-dr8ev
      @JC-dr8ev 5 лет назад +2

      Marcus Russell what you’re feeling is most likely the deep ribbed, straight tread 19.5 tires on the 450. That feeling lessens as the tires wear down a bit
