Imagine prime Penny in todays era=> MVP, Goat
Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill would be on the NBA Mount Rushmore if it weren't for injuries. True icons of the 90s!
Which one was more athletic?
Stop
@@clydetheglidetop5sgtop10du7 That's a tough call: Penny was in the MJ mode-slim, quick and slithery, whereas Grant was stronger, bigger, like Lebron, but still quick. Both could jump out of the gym.
@@andrewbrown3410 a friend of mine said "being there are so many freak athletes Hill would be avg. athletically in today's game" as well as "Jordan wouldn't even be one of the most athletic players today" the ignorance is baffling
@@clydetheglidetop5sgtop10du7 Video doesn't lie. Besides, what sets the truly great apart from the rest is how they USE their athleticism. Grant Hill, MJ, Penny... all those guys were also cerebral and utilized an economy of motion and decisiveness that complemented their physical abilities. Dominique Wilkins, arguably was at least as athletic as MJ, but didn't quite match him on the intangibles.
Penny Hardaway from 94-97 was so fun to watch and such a phenomenal talent.
His first two years with Phoenix was good he average 17ppg in 1999-2000 2000-2001
Should've did the '95-'96 season which was IMO his best overall season.
Finished 2nd to MJ in MVP voting, The team's best player Shaq missed 29 Game's due to injuries and they still won 60 Game's.
@Alexander Melnikov nah, 95-96 was Penny's best season overall.
I was thinking the same shit or even the 96-97 season, he was a lil bit more improved just right before the injuries
Max will make the 95-96 season too I think
Agree
He finished top 10 in MVP voting the 94-95 season.
The beautiful thing about Penny's game was he ain't tryin to be flashy he was just so talented that it looked flashy
On everything I love man so true
100% facts
Basketball the way it's supposed to be played
Penny was like a mixture of Magic & Jordan 💯
Facts
With a 3 point shot.
@@RocketmanXO Jordan was a good three point shooter
He had the playmaking ability of Magic and scoring ability of Jordan. How many players you know is a combination of that?
@Ta-Kuan Fuan Look at his volum in the years where when the line was the reguler line 👌 Keep in mind that most of Jordan 3s in the 80s were half court last secend flings 🥱👌😎
This dude could literally do it all. When in his prime the best PG1 i have seen. Yes, the best.
Penny Hardaway is a Magic Johnson / Micheal Jordan hybrid he literally looks like MJ with how fluid he is and his passing and vision was top notch.
One of the best players ever. You cant change our minds.
could've been
*The* best. Can’t change my mind
T H E BEST. Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson combined into one.
dude was the complete embodiment of the phrase “show time”.
He's top 10 if healthy.
Arguably the most naturally talented guard ever before getting hurt, skill, athleticism, I.Q. and takeover mentality dude had it all at such a young age.
One of the most skilled/complete players EVER! Very unselfish as well
True
An that unselfishness got him his own Nike shoeline, commercials, and cartoon character.
Penny knew how 2 get his and still make sure Shaq ate. He was so good at getting buckets when Shaq wasn't in position. And give it 2 him when he was.
I am a Lakers fan....BUT...Penny....what a talent....hadn’t he been injured, god knows how many championships he would have gotten
If only it weren't for Olajuwon and Drexler's Houston.
@@m2ranojaholo79 That was just their first trip to the Finals. If that Magic team had stuck together and built around Penny and Shaq, they could've won multiple titles for sure.
@@chiefmac88 yea 🙌 the owner was on drugs 💉 💊 to let shaq walk hardaway and o' neal was a treat if they stayed together my opinion been better 🌟 👍 than shaq and kobe
Its just like shaq said it took kobe 2 maybe 3 year to play that good but for penny he just that good from the start
@@kenyatagreen7512 definitely not better than shaq n kobe
This was a man who always made the right play, saw the game two plays ahead and had the skill set to do anything he needed to do on the court....
Plus, in the 95 finals where they got swept, he averaged 25 5 8 while shooting 50 40 90
Penny's skill set was so impressive!....A true thing of beauty!😁😁👍👍
This guy deserves more respect
his way of dribbling is so satisfying to watch, incredible footwork.
This was my favorite player growing up. No one played quite like Penny.
I feel the same way my brother, everybody was on Jordan's dick at the time but penny was my mvp he could do everything Jordan can and more . And remember he came into the league playing like this
Ppl talk about penny's vision, handle, athleticism. But i think one thing that Penny had that was unique was his soft touch in the post & footwork. They are one handed semi-hook shots that was really hard to stop. And occasionally penny will whip out moves based on the moment. Its not a go to move like harden's side step that he uses multiple times in game and put in hours of practice. That whole half spin step back penny did just happened and looked so smooth. That post move he did on pippen at 2:00 was a spin to a different hand then through the legs and totally faked out pip. Its like pip never seen penny use the move or have scouting reports on the move. Penny made it up in the spur of the moment that is why it is so unstoppable.
Great post. Started the video and that aspect of his game is rarely highlighted but so impressive.
It’s a shame he couldn’t gave a long career mostly healthy but what he gave the fans those early years was special.
One of most athletic guards in the 90's
The 90's NBA to me is the most exciting era.
I feel you it’s an opinion but take away MJ and it’s not the same. This era got so many more overall dynamic players. Bron, Curry, Giannis, Luka Irving KD etc. homer comment but I’m excited for ANT and melo looking like a beast too.
@@anthonyantmanedwardsisbett8197 yeah time around the dynamic is abundance but its bland theres no Rivalry, its like a practice game like one of them basketball show. I want the intensity, the tenacity, I want the conflict. Thats all it is.
@@xooonepieceoox1917 there was a rivalry with the warriors and the cavs but kd ruined it

*Joakim Noah- Top 4 in the MVP vote ( 2014 ).*
If Joakim Noah had played in the 90s, he would have been a role-playing player.
*Deandre Jordan- All-Nba First Team ( 2016 ).* Lol.
Place Shaquille O"Neal and Hakeem Olajuwon in the modern league and Wilt Chamberlain"s records will be broken. Even shorty 5"8 Isiah Thomas can average 29-ppg. in the modern league.
1984-1999 Golden era: Dominique Wilkins, Shaquille O"Neal, David Robinson, Magic Johnson, Grant Hill,
Penny Hardaway, Allen Iverson, Clyde Drexler, John Stockton, Chris Mullin, Mitch Richmond, Larry Bird,
Hakeem Olajuwon, Dikembe Mutombo, Dennis Rodman, Isiah Thomas, Moses Malone, Glen Rice,
Larry Johnson, Gary Payton, Alonzo Mourning, Kevin Jonhson, Reggie Miller, Clyde Drexler, Shawn Kemp,
Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing..............
When dr j played it was the biggest the arena got everyone was screaming
i dont feel tired of watching him over and over again my all time favorite player until now.
That boy was magic with some flair and a real bucket!
Moses Bey injuries
no matter what nba2k it is, penny will always be my starting myteam PG.
Dude was a freak *and* a genius. People who were watching live in '95 had zero doubt he was the future of the league. Injuries are a motherf-er.
He was a unique player of his era. Hardaway was like an NBA player who time traveled from the 22nd century to the 1990s. If NBA fans envisioned such player it would be Hardaway.
Oh my God! I used to love him so much. Mr. Hardaway was so graceful and gifted. I understand that he had injuries, but man! I cannot help, but to think about his legendary career. It's so refreshing to see respectful comments. Fans get sick & tired of seeing they favorite players being disrespected day in & day out. I know I do.
Amazing how complete his skill set was at such a young age.
I had his shoes (air penny 2 ,amazing shoes) back in the day❤️ great player
Penny hardaway is a true legend my favorite player during my childhood years.
The thing I loved about Penny was just how fearless the man was from the start. I definitely believe if the stars aligned for him during his career, he would be up there for the goat debate or even more.
He may not be the goat but he did enough to be a hall of famer
The best jump gatherer I've ever seen. The way he would jump stop into a scoring posture, is one of the many things, that made this brother's game unique.
2021 We still haven't seen another penny yet.
We seen better lol
I think SGA is a new age version of Penny.
Both combo guards at 6'7".
Because counting/box score stats have gotten so far out of hand with the rule changes and differences in the style of how offenses are run, it wouldn't be fair to strictly compare them statistically. Instead we will have to take those numbers into consideration while also going off of what we've witnessed as fans.
To me, SGA is the more natural scorer and is out of position playing point guard for OKC. He would be better suited as the shooting guard however positions are basically irrelevant in today's NBA. SGA is incredibly crafty especially when he gets into the paint as he slithers his way into an easy look at the cup. I give him the advantage as a scorer.
Penny on the other hand, is more of a natural playmaker and creator for others so I think he was properly positioned at the point during his peak. He isn't as effective as a face up scorer starting from the 3 point line like SGA but he is an even better post scorer. The post is where Penny thrives and outside of fast breaks, this is where Penny gets the bulk of his buckets (well, that and the line). They both are decent three point shooters who prefer to get closer to the hoop but you can't leave them completely open otherwise they make you pay. Anfernee has terrible 3pt% during the regular season but always took it to the next level in the playoffs. If he played in today's era obviously he would have practiced that much more seriously and his % would look better. They are both incredible at getting to the line but again the era makes the stats deceiving. I think SGA would have just a small advantage here. Very small.
SGA definitely has the better reputation as a defender than Penny did at his prime but the game has changed so significantly that it's not hard to believe Penny would be a very good defender in today's NBA. I imagine that Anfernee would utilize his versatility and his skills as a ball hawk (he always was amongst the leaders in steals during his prime). Part of what hurt Penny was that he was often stuck guarding super quick guys that were 6'3" or smaller which at the height of 6'7" gives him the advantage in many situations but makes it incredibly hard to keep in front of them in the open court. He would benefit from the fact that defense isn't strictly man to man and he could use his versatility to switch onto the taller wings. I still will give SGA the advantage for this category until proven otherwise (if only).
Overall, SGA is one of the best if not THE best guard (again, positions are basically irrelevant) in the Association. This is similar to how Anfernee was during his two season peak (before injuries started zapping him of his explosiveness). They are the same size and although Penny was more athletic/explosive, SGA has more ways to score and better defensive effort. Not many players have matched Penny's court vision but similar to Penny, SGA is the lead play maker for a top offensive team and puts his team on his shoulders when they need him to take over.
It would have been amazing to see them compete against each other but we'll have to settle for barbershop arguments.
Considering this is a video highlighting Penny, I have a hunch he will get the majority of the love but I'll ask anyway, who do you think would be the better player if SGA went up against 24 year old Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway?

Imagine Penny getting the ball every possession and having nothing but space and freedom to create all game every game . Not to mention imagine if Penny was allowed to carry the ball when he dribbled .
A point guard that's dominant in the post... #unbelievable
Wish we got to see more of prime penny. Man was a 6'7 baby magic with the ability to consistently shoot and dunk.
Penny and Grant Hill are the two biggest 'If they never got hurt' what ifs in league history.
6'7, handle, athleticism, elite vision, post game, high basketball I.Q. One of only three players I ever thought could be better than Jordan. Penny was my guy.
Who would you say was more athletic between Penny and Grant?

Grant was more athletic, probably jumped higher and was stronger. Penny was more skilled.
Penny was faster and was way more explosive than Grant😂💯Grant had a prime kawhi leonard on the dunking side penny was sum else doe👌🏾💯
Penny is a hall of famer it's just a matter of time when he gets inducted
I'm sick of the what if crap shit is getting old
97 playoffs tho... was on another level.
Crackin up at Chuck slammin that ball down after Penny hit that jumper

Huge Penny fan here. Not only a superstar player, but such an admirable human being too.
His natural feel for the game is truly one of a kind. No one has combined fundemental skill and free flowing instinct as well as Penny, in my opinion.
Love that "Are you serious!!!" guy he always hypes my ass up
He would dominate todays NBA and be MVP every season
94-95 penny Hardaway did everything on basketball 🏀 court !!!
I can watch Penny highlights all day long.
Penny was amazing, an offensive terror and an aggressive defender just amazing . Shame he suffered due to injuries, what could have been is just mind boggling
Y'all keep repeating the same thing over and over
When MJ was out of the NBA for almost 2 Seasons, Penny became my favorite player. Wore the black & white Penny Nike Air Ups playing PAL basketball. Loved those and the Latrell Sprewell CONS in 95-96. Also the black Air Pippens were great in 96-97.
Gotta have the 95-96 season too
We’re still waiting 😂
WHOA!!!!! Now this is a very pleasant surprise! You are officially The GOAT, Sir!
🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽
Can't be official if it's not official. Symbolically....yes. Language.
The GOAT if NOT for injuries. So sad we didn’t get to witness this for very long. MJ nor Kobe was that versatile and skilled. But due to longevity and accomplishments Penny doesn’t get credit
Penny Hardaway highlights !! 😭🔥
This channel is one of the GOAT 🐐
96' Penny was great too.
97 penny also his 96-97 stats are his most superior
This is what I call highlights
I think Penny should be HOF, I know he did not have the stats. However , his influence to the game is undeniable. From Kobe, Lebron all states Penny influence them. plus 4 times All star. All 3 NBA first team before injuries destroyed him.
My fav player I love penny he our hometown hero I remember growing up watching him in college and then nba. Hell I remember the buzz he had at trezevant high coming out going to memphis state💪👍 it was memphis state back then. All the king cotton commercials he still do them I just seen a new one the other day here. 901 stand up he is our legend💯💯🙌
He's long and he's quick he knows how to use every inch on his body he was 6'7 I think. great finisher good court vision and good basketball i.Q
Penny was a beast
Penny was the truth and i wish he never got injured 😔
This channel never fails me when I need to get in the mood to play NBA 2K
I spent a few of my teenage years living in France and remember the French announcer’s distinctive “English accent.” Anyway, your channel has the best compilation of highlights I have ever come across on Penny and Grant Hill, two of the greatest “what if” players in NBA history. Thanks a lot for putting them together!
Thank you for making this, I never seen Penny play but I heard stories on how good he was back when he was teamed up with Shaq
Prime Penny was BlueMagic and a match up nightmare from both guard spots before injuries.
I can see why Jordan played a game in his shoes
That game is in this video at 18:33
Favorite 90s player
Penny literally angered opponents with his dominance
Shaq was the meat tenderizer Penny was the carving knife
I never knew anything about Penny until they talked about him in Open Court
95-96 season his best season but this was almost as good
The difference was Shaq being out for numerous games the following season and Penny still carrying the Magic to a very good record without him.

any other era, this team with Shaq, Penny, Nick Anderson, and Dennis Scott would've won at least 2 championships. But the league was stacked with Super Sonics, Bulls, Knicks, and Rockets
I KEEP TELLIN Y'ALL! IN THE 1990'S OUTSIDE OF MICHEAL JORDAN PENNY HARDAWAY WAS EVERYONE'S FAVORITE PLAYER....EXTRA FACTS!
He'd be perfect in today's modern NBA
He played in the modern version of the NBA. He was drafted in '93 everything after around '86-'88 is considered to be the modern day version because that's when the Game started to change in terms of skills set's and overall athleticism.
Thank you so much for making this highlight .It's really hard to find Penny’s highlights on RUclips
My all-time favorite player. This video is goated. Well done.
90’s NBA legend 🔥 if it weren’t for injuries he was definitely on his way to a hall of fame career. What really messed him up I believe was rushing back to soon from injury during the 96-97 season. He wasn’t the same after that. Still a legend and had one of the best Nike ad campaigns after MJ in the 90’s 🔥
