I met him in 2004 when he played for the Knicks and he was so down to 🌎. He signed autograph and took pictures with us and some other fans too. Special moment
He is meant for greater things, couldn't reach the pinnacle that he envisioned as a player but as a coach and a community person, he has made a name. Someday he will be seen in even greater role. Such a phoenix story
Penny had the biggest 5 year impact of any player before injury his highlights speak for it self we not going to discredit him as a basketball player because he came in the NBA as an already elite player simply put the man was a cold mfkr Penny was the truth that's why his retro sneakers will always be popular.
Yes, he is God fearing. He is my favorite NBA player and role model in life. God saved him and told him, let's get you off the court and help these kids and be an example for the adults.
Penny is one of those guest where you need him on the complex sneakers podcast where you can take 40-60mins and go over the history in more detail and the way he saw it all
Humble is pretty weird word to use when he saying lil penny at the top and his sneaker line at the top. Not saying he is wrong but humble doesn’t fit …..
If you were born in the 80’s and seen when the Foamposites were first introduced in 97 and they actually was suppose to be for Scottie Pippen. Mike Bibby actually showcased it first when he played for Arizona. Fun fact Jordan actually rocked the Nike flight and cut the “1” off and hooped in it
Penny is STILL one of my favorite players and the Foamposite ones are STILL one of my favorite shoes ever! Another great episode made even better with an amazing player, coach and human being like Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway!!! Much respect to Joe and the Complex Crew for this one.
he didn’t come up with it, he found the sample and was lucky enough to get his name out with it. eric avar and his team at nike actually designed the sneaker; with scottie pippen (as mentioned in this interview) in mind, but penny had got to the sample pack first. penny wasn’t even the first to wear them on the court. although the first to wear them in the nba; mike bibby for UoArizona wore them during the ‘97 playoffs UCAA season. penny wore them later that season in the nba.
@@twentyoneHz yea I watched the video and I’m not talking about the first model I’m taking about the mind to go with all the designs he has on that shoe. There’s no other shoe like it
So cool. Penny is down to earth and very humble. To have left such a mark from the court to the shoe arena, he could have a nasty attitude. Salute, Penny.
There was a point in time where Penny's sneakers held as much weight as Jordan's. Outside the 11s, his sneakers would turn more heads in the mid 90s. His commercials were great too with Lil Penny.
I had the Penny II when I was a Kid playing high school basketball, and I always remember playing with those sneakers with pride. Even in that era, getting NBA content to Europe was not easy. Now, watching this series of Complex, I realize he was a legend, but he still is so polite and humble. Thanks, Hardaway. As you said, you are part of the history of one time when basketball was at another level.
If it wasn't for his injuries, no telling what Penny career would of been like. Regardless, The man & his shoe collection have been timeless... the foamposites are 1 of my favorite sneakers of all time.
The penny 1 is just flawless and he's an incredible humble individual Tennessee strong and he and Mike just took the brand and sneakers to a new level it felt like you was as good or knew him ya know. Respect much love Penny one cent
man everyone i knew had the og orlandos. i was so sad i could never afford it. people at the rec center had them too. you can tell how much joe was looking forward to this. Penny is a legend, especially in the shoe game.
One of my fave players of all time in my top 5 if never injured he would of been in the G.o.a.t conversation and would of easily won rings but us true basketball heads know how special he was as a player and then he's so humble kudos to complex for this episode and people run the numbers up on this cause this man was as great as any basketball player who has ever laced them up and next complex need to do a Grant Hill episode💯
I am a Chicago Bulls fan, grew up in the repeat 3 peat era. I was rooting so hard for Penny when Jordan was gone. And I low-key would not have minded if Penny beat the Bulls just once. I was so sad when he was injured. I am so happy to see that he still relevant with his sneakers and his coaching. And I love that he donated to Autism Speaks.
Penny is My idol til this day and I'm 36 and this is the best sports interview I ever seen, great way to honor the legend himself Penny Hardaway...The Greatest.
Penny should be in the Hall of Fame by now I can't lie Penny did have some dope shoes back in the day they should release the penny 12's and threes every year on a regular basis
Awesome episode. I would like someday to be able to afford a pair of Foamposites cause they look soooo amazing. Penny is such a cool and humble person I wish him lots of health and success in everything!
I lived in FL during "Penny's prime and those Orlando teams was what made me a Magic fan and still am to this day. I did not realize until watching this and seeing the graphic of his shoe line that the royal blue / black foam posites were a part of his line, that's one of the shoes I use in NBA 2K when I wear Orlando themed outfits or need a shoe w/ royal blue in them. During my 20 yrs of living in FL, I 16 of those I lived 30 mins outside of Orlando and for a job shadow class my 10th grade yr in high school in "96 I shadowed Glen Dehmer, former channel 9 weekend sports anchor and he happened to be coving the Orlando Magic practice that day for a game vs the Kings that night. And, so I got to meet some Orlando players, that day including "Penny", NBA TV's Dennis Scott, and NBA Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond. So, now anytime I see "Penny" or see him in a story involving his coaching his almu mater Memphis, I think back to that day. I would love to be able to still find a few pairs of his shoes to add to my collection as a keepsake.
Great episode, learned something new today,Never knew Scottie Pipppen was in the running to wear the Foams. First time I seen the Foams on Mike Bibby wearing them in the NCAA finals at University of Arizona.
Another sneaker pioneer. Man if Penny stayed healthy God knows how the painted picture of his image would blossom even more. His mark on sneakers still remain relevant to this day. Salute to Penny.
I really enjoy watching complex sneaker shopping episodes, cause they get the options on the wrestlers, actors, rappers and basketball players. It's always good to see penny hardaway!!! Great episode!!! 😊👍👍💯
Penny was awesome back in the day!! What a great guy! Soft spoken, Speaks well! Humble as all get out. Loved those Penny commercials with Chris Rock's voice!!! I'm buying a pair of Foamposits this week! And I'm an adidas guy for life!
Love that "verzuz" challenge Penny said. Let's put something like that together Complex! I would definitely watch some sort of content around this concept.
I have been waiting for this episode since. Penny inspires my life ever since I watched his sleek passes and the facebook documentary I felt he truly is a teacher, a father to many and a coach. He makes basketball a worthwhile sport
Man I remember them days..back in the summer of 94 and me being a young kid in Orlando walking around with a lawn mower asking people if I could cut their grass just so I could make some money to buy penny's shoes! Man he was such an amazing player and him and MJ had the best shoes hands down!
I love the Clyde Drexler poster in the background that came from a Little Caesars promo. I had that one and a Larry Johnson one on my wall back in the day.
PENNY!!! It's always so good to see you. Glad you're doing well. You still look good.😉😘 My favorite Penny shoe would have to be the ones from '96. EVERYBODY had them shoes.
his heart is probably in the right place but why did it have to be a horrible organization like Autism Speaks? those guys don't advocate for autism acceptance but treats it as a disease that needs to be eradicated
Young bucks, believe me when I tell you that back in the day. Kids were rocking Penny's all day. Many kids were rockin Penny's over J's. I know it's hard to imagine. But it's the truth. Penny was a beast back then. And had he not got injured. He would be one of the greatest of all time. Understand this, Penny at his peak was better than so many H.O.F. guards.
LEGENDS after LEGENDS Complex have been killing it lately,to me personally his sneakers are better than Jordan's no hate towards Jordans but I prefer Foamposite and Air pennys.
I hate I missed the 2022 release again! Ima have to find a resaler for the Penny 1 Orlando's. I can't do the Foamposite song. With having the first ones. Though they are not technically Foamposites.
I remember my older brother had the white 2’s and I had the black pair and I used to wear both to school like I had both pair. I even wore one of each color before.
Penny Hardaway Definitely Has A VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER Line Up Of Sneakers That Could Possibly Compete With Other Signature Athlete's Line Ups!!!! I Really Salute Mr. Hardaway For Giving Back To Such A Great Cause....Truly A Classy And Humble Man!!!!
So many kids back in school rocked the Penny 2s. They were super popular. Along with shoes like the Zoom Flight 95s, which I had. Then the Jordan 11s came out and took the world by storm, everyone had to have them. Such an amazing time for sneakers and basketball. Penny was my favorite point guard, no question about it. The Penny and Shaq combo in Orlando was magical to see. I was really young, barely understood basketball but I didn't care. My home team was the Knicks, but I still watched every Magic and Bulls game I could.
What’s your favorite Penny Hardaway signature shoe?
All of them except the 5, and 6 he didn’t hoop in those so those don’t count
All of them!!!! Except 5-6
Air Penny 2! One of the best penny shoes i think? 😅
Penny 1 Orlando but the 2 isn't bad.
The only guy to look at Jordan s. Up.down 😂
EASILY one of the best guests on here. Dude was very humble and his signature sneakers are dope!
All facts you speaking. Normally I'll keep scrolling most times but for Penny I didn't even hesitate to click.
I met Penny back in 97 at the height of his career and he was as humble then as he is now. I still have the pic I took with him.

Only because of injury. Still has some of the best highlights out there to this day

Penny was arguably the best player in the league when he was healthy. He was a prodigy before injury...
He is that guy .

I sent a comment before watching the vid… and they stated everything. Accept the Mike Bibby story.
I got the penny 1 all stars & they are super comfortable! Need to get some foamposites & the 3’s
You must be really young or new to the game, but keep on growing dude...
It's so dope to see more and more LEGENDS as guest! The nostalgia is crazy right now...
Agree with this 110%!
Gotta do Barkley next!! Then Lefkoe lol

Penny Hardaway probably has the best signature shoes after Michael Jordan and it’s not up for debate.
There is no “probably”
Ima go mj, kobe, penny. I'm biased cuz kobes are my favorite for playing on the court aside from j11, 12

As a kid and “tall” PG, I loved Penny. Wearing his sneakers and emulating his game. Good times
Smart move... he was amazing on the court.
You probably had no handles, I would have dunked on you.
