- If you apply rotation in object mode, your local axes will get reset. This video will show how to get those local coordinates back!

Woah, the double X X or Y Y or Z Z to change the move axis when rotate is so cool, never heard of that, thank a lot !
Now rotate with R and then with R R 🤯

After 2 years of using blender, I was really missing this. Thank you
Every time I think Maya has so many options and Blender doesn't, a youtube vid comes by...
Yeah but here 1:0 for Maya, too many clicks in blender to orient/align the pivot
Blender loves to make you sweat.
Every video I watch about blender makes me feel like I should just save up for Maya, honestly.
Why go through all this work? There's a reason Maya costs money
This saved me in the scene I'm working on! For those that use the industrial workflow bear in mind that after doing this you need to set the orientation drop down box to whatever you named it.
Thank u so much!
Please make more videos like this short and very useful
Sure, I will get on it!
I knew the local move trick, but using face orientation is going to be a killer time saver. Thanks, Josh!
Thanks Fes, glad to help
Sooo many projects I can go back to and continue working on now. Thank you
And with that you can tell the origin point to orient/align itself based on the transform orientation (object - tranform - align to transform orient, but with origin only being affected). Now you have the correct orientation back as it was before.
Could you explain this more? I followed your steps and couldn't revert default cube to its original rotation along world axis.
@@plejra you should mark "Affect only" -> "Origins" in transform options (top right corner) before aligning
@@toxicityspb26 thank you I'll try
@@toxicityspb26 It works! Thank you. You can also use shortcut "ctrl + ."
how to bring that cube back to reset its rotation?
Its mind-blowing how so many things are already though of in Blender, thanks for a truly great tip
Thank you!! i have been stuck on trying to get a steering wheel to rotate correctly and your video here worked where countless other tutorials were no help. Again thank you!!
Awesome! More of these short life saving hidden feature videos please!
I might actually make this a daily thing if enough people want it, while maintaining the usual types of uploads :)
You weren't wrong... Fantastic TIP! Much Love!
Ive been trying figure this out for months, Thank you
Life saving tip ! Thanks !
Can't believe I never knew about this. Thanks dude!

Thank you so much! This tip saved my life! ♥
Thank you! awesome trick!
That is super helpful, thanks. This has always been a problem for me at times. I have been using Blender off and on since before Big Buck Bunny.
Glad to help!
Omg…. This tip saved my life…. I’m tearing my hair out trying to find a way to rotate an object that’s tilted sideways. Thank you!
Really handful trick! We can, also, asign as many custom axis we need to shortcuts as well. Rotating while animating can be, at least, a bit easy with this approach.
also when you create custom orientation you can check "overwrite previous" in the "f9" panel so you will not have bunch of them after a while.
What a great video!!! You are so right nobody knows this or at least they don't talk about it if they do. Thanks a lot.
I always wondered what the plus icon do thank you
And two years later, I found myself in this situation, and lo and behold, the only one solving this issue is the bona fide legend himself, Mr. Gambrell. Thank you!
AND THAT'S WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! great!
Omg. I am so grateful about this one, never though it would be so easy!
i have spent so much time trying to work it out and i was so close most of the time, but not close enough!! Till now, thanks.
This way I can use Array in a single line with rotated object, so it won't face to the rotated angle so nice!
I owe you a favor,
this is haunted me for months
have a great day Josh
and here I was, using the 3d cursor projected to a face as my custom orientation instead of just using a face normal. Huge time saver.
dude, thank you so much! this was very useful
Thank you so much Josh!!

again you saved mi sanity
This is handy, thank you
OMG! lol I've been in blender for 4 years and I've never come across this. Excellent!!! Thank you
The only issue is that this wouldn't work in a situation to animate a door off it axis. It will rotate along the hinged access in object mode but when you key frame its positions, it roates along all axis to arrive at the next keyframe. Any advice?
Thank You.
this is amazing, thank you!
I had no idea this existed thank you
I didn't for a while either hahaha
Thanks a lot!
Nice tech , thx
