Google is the big brother. They track you on all sorts of websites and their algorithm noticed you looking at that one and then pushed more advertising in your direction. Or maybe it's just coincidence, but google actually does this.
I bought this lens used a few years ago, it was my first macro lens. I really liked it, but extremely hard to get 1:1 hand held. Also I didn't have a really good tripod or slider which made taking my photo's with it a lot of work and difficult, that being said I think I got some really nice photo's even though I only have a APS-C. Last year I bought the Canon 100mm 2.8 with is and I like it because I can use it without my clunky tripod and have gotten some really nice photo's with it too.
Thank you, at the time I didn't have any flash which did make things more difficult. I was just starting out using a DSLR. so I am slowly adding a few lenses and for Christmas I received a 430 EX 11 speedlite. I should look into the ring flash.
msmartinigirl1 The original MR-14EX is a very good macro flash if you're just starting out, and now inexpensive. The 2nd version appears to be a small improvement, though I have never used it. Eventually you'll probably want to 'upgrade' (as did I); the MT-24EX twin flash is well worth considering, I use it with my 100mm L and MP-E65mm and it's never off those lenses when I'm out in the field (or at home macro stacking). It needs diffusers though, there's a chap on Ebay who makes excellent diffusers especially for it. The Extreme Macro website is an awesome source of macro information, here's the link- extreme-macro.co.uk/
Most macro lenses are very good, and it's always fun to test :) Have you tried the Tamron 180mm? It's amazing. It also has a ring outside and behind the mount for the lens hood which lets you rotate the filter you have on so you can rotate a polarizing filter if you have one on, pretty neat, but the image quality is amazing as well, even if it's getting old now.
+christopher frost photography , can u do a best macro lens video ? it's been hard to look fo a good one , i usualy look for your advice for best camera lens .
I prefer a bit longer focal length for macro lenses at times, not just because of what you said about not getting as close to the subject, but also because of the shadow you sometimes cause by being close to the subject. Not ireally important but at 4:10 I think that is actually a three pence coin, not a sixpence. On the subject of older macro lenses and Sigma, at some point would you be able to review the original Sigma APO 180mm F3.5 EX DG macro lens? (not the newer f/2.8 one), Maybe compare it to this Canon lens since they both don't have stabilisation, are the same focal length, both macro lenses and start at f/3.5? I know a couple of people who used one years ago and said it produced quite good quality but have since moved to the newer Sigma 150mm macro or Canon 100mm L macro.
hi. once again, a great review. thanks. in this review you mentioned the stabilized sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro lens. is there any chance to have a review on thus lens? or at least what can you say about it?
Christopher, I need your advise, I'm looking to invest on a full frame body (5D MK III has become cheaper) and 6D is a desirable choice, considering I can spend the rest of the money on some glass. Which Full frame will be a best pick? will it worth to pay extra for the MK III?
+RonLX D The 5D iii is wonderful but unless you're shooting sports, I don't think there's any huge advantage over the 6D. The 6D is really fantastic, even nowadays - go for it
Hi Chris have you come across the sigma 12-24 v1 or v2 ? They seem to be really cheap options for ultra wide full frame. I was just wondering what the image quality would be like on modern bodies
+ColonelRuiz I'm in the process of reviewing the mark ii version, which is meant to be considerably better than the mark i version. The mark ii version is nice and sharp but image quality in its corners is not great
Hello Cris, I love your channel, I'm from Portugal and I have a request for you, I who'd love to se a review from you of the Sigma 50 100 f1.8 and from what I now from your Chanel you want to review her to lol I hope you can review in April wend the lens comes out :-)
I don't think it's really all that sharp compared to a lot of the lenses you've featured recently at wide apertures, but man that contrast is amazing. I noticed it immediately at 2:51. That's something I didn't know I valued so much in lenses but I will watch out for it now. Also FWIW, you can get old 90s sigma models for dirt on ebay. Take a Nikon and adapt it to canon and it's now full manual. You're not missing out on the AF for macro anyway. I dunno about the sharpness but you save many hundreds of dollars.
Terence Chan Weighs a ton though and a challenge to use with flash; I find myself leaving it at home most of the time and taking out the 100mm L and MP-E65 with the MT-24EX flash. Still, the Sigma 180mm is a damn sharp lens and has produced some fantastic images for me.
minepate Here in the UK used Sigma 180mm's recently have been going for around £500 on Ebay and cost a grand new (they depreciate in value by around a half as soon as you buy it!). Used Canon 180mm 's are a couple of hundred more but hold their value. I'd get a second hand Sigma (not a new one, they're overpriced new in my opinion, as is the Canon 180mm) as they're a steal at that price. If it's just a portable general macro walk-around lens you're after, then I'd recommend getting the excellent Canon 100mm f/2.8 L is (and Canons macro flashes will work with it too, the Sigma 180's filter thread is too large).
hey guys i have a question i am doing street photography and i also take a lot of pictures of spring flowers. i want to know which 35mm and 50mm lens i should buy. i also want to get into wildlife photography, therefore a great zoom lens would be greatly appreciated.
+Order 66 I've made a big comparison of ten 50mm lenses - check out my recommendation videos. I've reviewed a few 35mm lenses by Canon and Sigma - take a look at my channel, they're all fairly good (apart from the Yongnuo 35mm)
Christopher i have changed my mind, i want this instead of the 600mm F4, i don't have a full frame camera yet so it would be nice if you could buy me a 1Dx mark II, not a used one .. i dont wanna see any scratches
You will always get a slight drop in sharpness whenever using an ef (or any other full frame lens for that matter) lens on an apc camera body. It's just the nature of how camera sensors work
+Denis Guerra /Most/ lenses are a little less sharp on APS-C, depending on the sensor resolution you're comparing. But there are some which are so sharp that even being fitted to an APS-C camera is no problem
Thank you for your answer. Other thing, if I use a f/5.6 full frame on an apsc which AF system only works at f/5.6 or larger, will the crop factor affect the aperture?
I also have this old lens and value its use for macro,,, although mine is not the L , Sigma 180 mm USM IF APO MACRO 1; 3.5 . Would have been nice if it had stabilization, but I do ok with hand held shots and occasionally put it on tripod for important shots. Taking shots of flowers and insects its not needed to be super close for sharp images., and as you mentioned for more distant shots nothing to bragg about. Also in my camera bag of macro is a canon ef-s 60mm f 2.8 USM
Hei Christopher, i am looking ultrawide angle zoom for Canon 5D. I found Canon 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. What do you think, is this is good alternative for expensive ultrawide canon L lenses? photographylife.com/lenses/canon-ef-20-35mm-f3-5-4-5-usm
This is crazy, I just discovered 10 minutes ago that this lens existed before i even came on youtube and saw this.
Google is the big brother. They track you on all sorts of websites and their algorithm noticed you looking at that one and then pushed more advertising in your direction.
Or maybe it's just coincidence, but google actually does this.
Thanks Christopher for the review and thanks Sean for the glass!
excellent review, your voice is perfect, really easy to listen to, you would make a great news reader.
How about to do review for Samyang 10mm for crop cameras?
I bought this lens used a few years ago, it was my first macro lens. I really liked it, but extremely hard to get 1:1 hand held. Last year I bought the Canon 100mm 2.8 with is and I like it because I can use it without my clunky tripod and have gotten some really nice photo's with it too.
+msmartinigirl1 And it's far easier to use with flash too, you can't fit the MR-14EX ring flash or MT-24EX twin flash to the 180mm.
Thank you, at the time I didn't have any flash which did make things more difficult. I was just starting out using a DSLR. so I am slowly adding a few lenses and for Christmas I received a 430 EX 11 speedlite. I should look into the ring flash.

What gave you that idea? I've been doing it for years.

i vote for it
Starow 21 I guess English is not your native language?
Could you review Sigma 150mm and 180mm OS macros? they both seem like alternatives to this lens at around similar prices.
great review! love watching your lens reviews
Great video! Congrats!
PS. Will you make a test of Sigma 105 mm f/2.8?
I prefer a bit longer focal length for macro lenses at times, not just because of what you said about not getting as close to the subject, but also because of the shadow you sometimes cause by being close to the subject. I've heard it's astonishingly good. I might review it someday.
Thanks for your reply. I will be waiting. Jesus bless you
I see stamps from Hong Kong in your clip! Did you visit HK before?
+weegeekelvin Nah but I get stuff shipped from there. I would love to visit HK though
Another great review. A very interesting lens is the 180mm.

i just bought a really cheap version 1 (not sharp at all and flaring is horrible, but i get 12mm on full frame and it didnt hurt my pocket at all :)
Hello Cris, I love your channel, I'm from Portugal and I have a request for you, I who'd love to se a review from you of the Sigma 50 100 f1.8 and from what I now from your Chanel you want to review her to lol I hope you can review in April wend the lens comes out :-)
@Chris - Still waiting for your review of Tokina 100mm F2.8 macro lens. Any chance you can do it ?
+Karthik D Hmm, it's not really on my hitlist. It's probably a great lens but I doubt it's any sharper than the Canon or Sigma alternatives
+Christopher Frost Photography Thanks Chris. This is helpful.
Hey Chris, would you review Fujifilm equipment in the near future?
Yes, I will :-)
I don't think it's really all that sharp compared to a lot of the lenses you've featured recently at wide apertures, but man that contrast is amazing. I noticed it immediately at 2:51. It's an old thrupence; not an old sixpence. I suppose it is only us oldies who can remember it now.
+Leslie Dellow I'm 18 and know the difference - it's not like it's written on it!
+Leslie Dellow Yes, I know, I know, I made a mistake. Will correct it in the description
+Christopher Frost Photography do u plan to review the samyang 10mm f2.8? all the best
Like the sharpest macro lens or like the best budget macro lens
Yeah poor noob atleast i always shot manual
Surprised you mentioned the Sigma 150mm instead of the 180mm ex dg.
cardiacade Ya. Own a Sigma 180mm f2.8 DG OS Macro and with a wider maximum aperture and OS, it beats the canon easily
Terence Chan

+Terence Chan How much does it cost compared to this or the sigma 180mm one? :o
minepate The sigma is cheaper than the canon with a larger aperture of f2.8 and OS. It is roughly a 710 pounds difference in HK.

great review by the way, i really like the backround blur, but there is 1 thing i like more than the backround blur, and that is a Sigma 300-800 F5,6!
it only costs a small loan of a million dollars sooo... uhh yea keep dem vids coming
+FUEL UNITS You never know...I might have a review of that particular Sigma lens on the way sometime soon...
Any chance that you will make a review about the Samsung 24mm 3.5 tilt-shift?
I'm sorry, the samyang of cause. Stupid auto-correction :D
+Blockbuster2033 I would like to one day! Maybe I'll be able to hire one one day.
Have you experienced some decrease in sharpness when you use a full frame lens on a crop body?
You will always get a slight drop in sharpness whenever using an ef (or any other full frame lens for that matter) lens on an apc camera body. It's just the nature of how camera sensors work

The AF shouldnt be affected by a lenses aperture. What camera are you using?
Is lack of image stabilization on this 180 mm lens still an issue in modern times considering camera in body image stabilization now exists?
Thanks Chris
great video!
hi i appreciate your vids and like them very well . could you do a review of a tokina 28-80 atx pro 280 ef it would be nice

+Aurimas Andrijauskas I've never tried that lens unfortunately! It's not a particularly popular one these days, but it might have some sharpness
That was a threepence.
+Julie Miller Oops! You are correct. I got my pre-decimal money mixed up.
thanks
Garskit?
?
He meant the rubber ring for weather sealing
I think he was picking on the funny pronunciation
Thx man if u can
It's the sharpes lens of the world ... 2. Zeiss Otus 55mm
+Robin Polarstern the sharpest is the 85mm otus
i doutb it, check the samyang 135
next the movie put lengended portuguese.
thank you!!!!!!
4:52... "190mm L" :))
Why don't you sound very british??
Becuase your 'british' is the English accent. Britain is four countries, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. Christopher is from Wales.
Bought a used one off eBay for $300
This lens is outdated. Canon has been slow to update their lens catalog for modern high resolution cameras...
