@@ryanturntine8923 try extending your cable linkage at the plastic threaded part where the two parts of the shifter cable connect. My son replaced his shifter cable and he had to adjust the length longer for it to go into 1st gear. Hope that helps.

So my transmission slipped a bit a couple times in OD. I put it in 3rd and kept rolling. The gear indicator light showed up in 1st tho, even tho i know the shifter and transmission were in 3rd. The tranny never left 3rd gear either when i came to a couple of stops. It took off still in 3rd. I left work knowing these things and went straight to 3rd. When I took off things were normal again. My shifter has been loose for a while now. I'm hoping that this is the issue. I'm hoping that its just not accurately telling the transmission what to do. I replaced this shifter with the Dorman 905-120 the shifter doesn't go into Low and the wheel lock cable won't engage. Iv got the 04 Silverado 4 speed automatic. Did I order the wrong part?
No you ordered the correct part. You will need to adjust your shifter cable. The adjustment is below the cab near the transmission. The cable stretches overtime. The adjuster is located on the cable itself about 12 inches from the transmission it looks like a small box in the middle of the cable you will need to remove a small clip to be able to adjust the cable properly

Mine doesn't simply lift off once I've removed the bottom screws. I have found them in the aftermarket arena, between 100 and $160, and used from $30 up to $80.
I agree, this video missed the 2 screws that come up from the bottom to hold the upper half of the cover. If you force it - thinking that it is a spring clip - it will break. Fortunately I was pulling off of a doner, so I wasn't overly worried about that.
My 13’ has a sloppy shifter. Just replaced the shifter but still sloppy. I’m assuming I’ll have to replace some parts. Haven’t found anything OEM. Dorman sells lots of parts but I’ve heard they are garbage . Tips?
I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 4×4 that will go in reverse, neutral, n park but NOT in drive and other lower gears...... The transmission was rebuilt like 4.5-5 yrs ago n has less than 1,000 miles on transfer
This may be a dumb question but why did you have to change it ? Was it not shifting ? Or just because it was loose ? Reason I'm asking is because my 01 GMC sierra sometimes won't catch the forward (drive) gear , so I put in reverse then back to drive then it catches.
I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS 5.3 new body and the shift control is not the same. The only difference is the cable connects into the ignition switch and hides behind it.The cable tip piece extends and that’s where I’m stuck..can’t figure out how to get behind the ignition switch housing.

Could be. But it could also be a worn shifter cable. If u crawl under your truck and follow the shift cable from the trans to the cab, you will see a union where u can adjust the tension of the cable. I would try that first

Cost was $172.24 for part ,unfortunately my labor is not billable. LOL
@misterx4088 well, the vehicle I had didn't have a digital display, and I didn't catch my typo of "does". Should have read, "what is* the wire harness control". My problem ended up being the starter, and then the transfer case blew. 🙄
yes! if the shifter moves around and has alot of play, it most likely needs to be replaced. if you have trouble getting the transmission into gear and it wont always to back into park, lift up the carpet around you feet/. check the shift cable under the drivers floormat area. they like to wear and stretch in that area.
I just went thru this whole debacle. DO NOT buy the Dorman 95-101. It is JUNK. Sloppy and built to break. Within a week I had to replace it. Go with the OEM. The one he's replacing with here is part 26091246. You need to check your parts for compatibility though.

I think tht is your issues because I've had the same issue it wouldn't move until I took the shifter loose
Exellent video 👍👍
Yes thank you great help
Mines not shifting right would this fix problem???
No unfortunately this had to do with putting the transmission into gear.
My 2001 cable will not go back in the ignition. WTF
Did you get it figured out
Just go get a .45 cent spring. Just did mine feels like new
Where did you find the spring at. Don’t wanna pay 15 dollars for a spring..
Having this issue with my 05 Silverado. How difficult was it to replace the spring?

Would be the universal springs? Or spring for a particular application? Want to avoid having to take everything apart and then not being able to find the spring at the local Home Depot 🤣
What Year was this truck?
Just replace the broken spring…
GM 7812853 cut it to 3/4”. Install 😉🤓
niceice
Great info...now where's your vid on doing it?
I ordered the #7812853 spring, cut it at 7 rings, then fish out the broken spring and manipulate the new spring into place with 2 flathead screwdrivers.
are you a real-life McGiver?
@@misterx4088 Yes, yes I am. I even used hand tools to turn a working car into scrap before.

I tried removing the wiring harness (even with the brake down) but it appears to be stuck. Any ideas why this may be?
J Santa heat gun
What’s the part number? To order it.
I mean this is a nice video but, my shifter cable isn't loose but it is hard to move coming out of park into reverse every other gear is fine and I don't know why it's rough? Can someone help me on this?
go ask your wife for help
I have a question. The whole gear shift assembly fell off in my hands while trying to put the truck. What and how much needs to be replaced? 1997 cev silverado. One time we found similiar parts. Ended up with no horn and hard to shift. Where can we get parts(very limited budget). Prices etc,...???
Dorman 905-120 is the after market replacement part
I have a 2005 tahoe and all of a sudden it won't go into park / is same fix ?/
Could be. But it could also be a worn shifter cable. If u crawl under your truck and follow the shift cable from the trans to the cab, you will see a union where u can adjust the tension of the cable. I would try that first
@@AaronHinesAuto thanks I replaced floor pan a few months ago and a piece of the old pan snagged my cable and chewed up 3 inches .I guess I have to clean up and remove old pan and replace the whole cable.
I need to figure this out cuz I parked on a curb and now truck won’t go past n after driving for a while it used to be p r n d 3 but now I can’t get it past n to drive the damn thing 😅😩
Edit had to rip it down off the curb and broke it
Mine was not loose it broke at the bottom bolt and could not shift gears.
1999 Chevy Tahoe 4WD 5.7 Litre 306,458 miles on it : Hoorah ( orignal engine and have not been in it yet)
Part number as of today is 905-101 and it seems Dorman is the only Manufacturer, that being said it doesnt matter who you buy it from ,AutoZone to NAPA all the same. But prices vary so shop around and not a normally stocked item, I was lucky Oriellys had one a little higher in price but THEY had it. Cost was $172.24 for part ,unfortunately my labor is not billable. LOL

Aaron Hines yea figured out i need to replace column shifter.
Where did you get your new part?
He said the dealership
He said he got it from Rock Auto
Cool 😎 no problem thanks
Thanks big dog
Do you have a part number for OEM? I have a 2006 Chevy 2500HD. Duramax
yes sir! oem gm # 26092432
What does the wire harness control? Is it a neutral safety switch?
@misterx4088 well, the vehicle I had didn't have a digital display, and I didn't catch my typo of "does". Should have read, "what is* the wire harness control". My problem ended up being the starter, and then the transfer case blew. 🙄
my 01 Tahoe shift lever functions, but wiggly and loose, thinking that the spring mentioned by others might be broke. @@nancyhendershott1998
Does this loose shifter on my 98 GMC Yukon mean that I need to replace it with a new one?
Please help with more information.
yes! if the shifter moves around and has alot of play, it most likely needs to be replaced. if you have trouble getting the transmission into gear and it wont always to back into park, lift up the carpet around you feet/. check the shift cable under the drivers floormat area. they like to wear and stretch in that area.
I just went thru this whole debacle. DO NOT buy the Dorman 95-101. It is JUNK. Sloppy and built to break. Within a week I had to replace it. Go with the OEM. The one he's replacing with here is part 26091246. You need to check your parts for compatibility though.
Thanks for the video, very helpful
what is the PN ?
Links are in the description! Make sure to pick out the right switch. Cruise control or no cruise control
@@AaronHinesAuto - Sorry I don't see them in the description. I see the "if you found this video helpful", and Follow this channel, and an overview description, but I don't see any PN's.
Good video though. What symptoms do you see which target this part? My shifter does moves but is not going into each gear. I don't feel the "clicking" of the gears shifting when I move the shifter arm up and down (except for a few gears). I can't get it to go into park any longer. It only goes up to R.
