Hey thx for taking the Time to show this I would suggest you put a plastic wire tie around the area of the connection of the cable selector and the bush as a safety
Happened to me 3 years ago , i ordered a new bushing but never put it on since my zip tie job apparently held all of this time lol. It happened again 2 days ago, i found the bushing i ordered and it literally just crumbled before i could install it so back to the zip tie method i went. I got the part you used from O’Reillys today and about to install it. It looks different than the OEM bushing so I was hoping to find someone that installed the same one so I could see how its suppose to be oriented. Great video explaining the problem and the solution!
I just bought the ones from OReily as welll even when you put them in boiling water before install they are still too fuckin big so on with the zip ties until I can find time to shave the back up bush to fit thx
Anytime you have to do that to a part, you've got the wrong part. The correct part for my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 was a (dorman 14110). There were four pieces in the box for $12, but only one fits. A small black flexible bushing pushes into the linkage with ease, and then clips on the rod. No tools necessary.
It happened to me tonight. I’m at 340,469 original miles. Not bad! Two zip ties for now. Tomorrow morning will fix it right. For another 300,000 miles!
Bro, you saved me a tow! My truck is cammed so I typically shut it off in drive-thru. Today this happened to me! Shut her off and lost my shifter. Your video and two zip ties and I was back on the road! Just wanted to thank you for the video!! Take care!
Thanks for the video brotha..Same thing just happened on my H3 Hummer..Cant find 1 to fit, and the dealer only sells the whole cable..However your idea of shaving one down looks like a winner..Im going to get a file in the garage and get to shaving...Peace...B
Thank you so much! I thought i was missing something thinking only this stupid little rubber piece. It's hell to put on. Thanks for the video. It makes more sense now.
So glad this guy made this I’m working on a field mowing hay and our fuel truck was having this problem where our vehicles coming in and out I’m heading to the store later today hopefully works!
Yes you can do that but remember that you don't want the to be weak this way I shaved the Bushing everytime your shifting and it might crack.. hopefully it doesn't ..
I have a 2013 dodge caravan 3.6 sxt and have the same problem.l bought the one with a clear bushing inside it worked fine no shaving, had to press it in and tuck around while doing so but it worked, now for back up I drilled a hole in the transmission link arm, got a spring, attached it to it and attached the other end to the transmission link cable just to hole it down ( it will not come off ) you can make it home or where ever.
Don't shave the bushing, you are supposed to put the bushing in hot water to soften it so that it goes in easier. If you shave it off it may not have enough material to make it stay in the hole
That part where the lever does Nothing Scared the & %%s out of me!! Im veryExperienced with Engine know but not Transmissions!!I go underneath to check and the manual trans lever is completely off! Another Learning lesson! Thank for sharing
Happened to me at 165,000 miles I changed the grommet and it won’t stay seated to the transmission, pops off every 5 or so times gotta crawl under there and pop it back on and I’m good to make it home. Gonna try to replace the grommet with the spare one it came with and see if that one stays on. I didn’t drill or shave anything.
Future reference. Get it from NAPA auto parts is almost identical of OEM bushings. I stop ordering parts Online or Autozone. If the Dealership doesn't have it I order from NAPA or Advance Auto parts.they always have diferent selections of Bushings OE always the closest from OEM.Autozone doesn't sell OE parts.
Haters are always going to say bulshit that i put the wrong not true the way i put on is still on my truck is hasn't pop out .. it has bien about 3 Year's that i fix it still going 😅
MINE WAS WORN AND FELL OUT, IN THE MIDDLE OF 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC. THIS IS THE LEVEL OF DESIGN YOU GET FROM GMAC, CHEVY ,,,,,,,,, ALL JACKOFFS,,,,,,,,,,ALL DIVISIONS. GMAC,,,,,,NEVER AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You aver ask your self why car makers do this, use a plastic piece of shit instead a metal piece? If this piece will be made of metal it will last forever
Ok, so i cant belive it took you 4:32 min just to record how to change the shifter cable bushing and at the end you did it wrong.... DONT trim or modify the bushing, use pliers to make it fit in the shifter cable end.... the reason why its hard to install it is to avoid any failure in the future....

stupid GM should have just shipped them out the door with zip ties.
Lmaoooo I didn't want to put a ziptie today because I thought it might not be good.
I just bought the ones from OReily as welll even when you put them in boiling water before install they are still too fuckin big so on with the zip ties until I can find time to shave the back up bush to fit thx
Zip ties for the win 🏆

No problem
So glad this guy made this I’m working on a field mowing hay and our fuel truck was having this problem where our vehicles coming in and out I’m heading to the store later today hopefully works!
I have a 2013 Tahoe. Rather than shaving it of, I drill the hole bigger on the cable. It was easy and then snapped into place. Still helpful video.
Yes you can do that but remember that you don't want the to be weak this way I shaved the Bushing everytime your shifting and it might crack.. hopefully it doesn't ..
why would you shave a 100 dollar part off rather than a bushing
Thank you for making this video! I didn't know what the part was called that I was looking for... This has helped me tremendously!
A 3/8”drill bit will take out the rubber that held the oem piece that broke and then the new one fits perfectly
Thanks boss exactly what my suburban needed
I have a Chevy Silverado now by Watching this video I'm going to change my .I would not like it to happen .. thanks for that video
The flat part of the bushing goes the other way, but hey if it works it works
Just happened to my 07 suburban thanks for the video
No problem
How do u put the bushing in
Thanks dude you saved me alot of money!!

Thank you man a lot it saved me a tow and money
I had to do the same thing, if it pops off again because of the shaving soak it in hot water and it will make it softer and easier to install.
Get the part in oriellys fits perfect on my tahoe no shaving its called ...shift cable bushing kit ..
Brand dorman for gm
That's what I ended up doing. Thank's for the tip done in 30 sec after fighting with the Dorman assortment pack nothing fit.
This happened today to me, gonna check out O'Reilly. Thanks for the heads up.
Did you have to shave the bushing?
@@gregorydewayne8628 no nonshaving the part at orielly for my 2010 tahoe they must be all the same cable
Happened to me today. Thank you for doing this.
How do you shave it off 😅 having the same issue thanks for the video
NuthaTrucker!!!!💯
That part where the lever does Nothing Scared the & %%s out of me!! Im veryExperienced with Engine know but not Transmissions!!I go underneath to check and the manual trans lever is completely off! Another Learning lesson! Thank for sharing
Highly recommend doing this if you don’t want to change the whole cable 👍
The Bushing kit I bought @ Orally Auto parts ...
Happened to me at 165,000 miles I changed the grommet and it won’t stay seated to the transmission, pops off every 5 or so times gotta crawl under there and pop it back on and I’m good to make it home. THANK YOU FOR POSTING !!!!
14073 fits on there perfect. No following no squeezing just snap it on and go
For what truck and year? I just bought the oart number he provided and actually came with like 5 bushing. Mine is an 08 Silverado
You are right. No need for all this extra
My 2013 Sierra with 67000 miles just pulled this crap on me last week…gonna try tk fix it today.
Very good video.
Thanks man it happened to me Thank God I RUclips it lol
How do you get the bushing to stay on the shifter? I was able to get the bushing in to the canle but doesn’t stay on the shifter knob.
I’m having the same issue. Did you ever figure out a solution?
Thank you!

you put it on backwards
Haters are always going to say bulshit that i put the wrong not true the way i put on is still on my truck is hasn't pop out .. it has bien about 3 Year's that i fix it still going 😅
What is the bushing you ordered
The bushing is backwards, it's going to pop out
Autozone pt#14073 fit right onto the pin from trans case and cable eyelet slips on and fastened with "E" clip
The dealer doesn't sell bushings.... only the cable with the bushing and they sell you both ends. Pain in the $.
Where did you get the kit
Seems to me there should be a bolt with a nut on the end so it doesn't just fall off. I guess Chevy decided it wasn't important
It’s literally so hard to put on omg
Dude I’m working on it rn
You need to work out your forearms stop doin the 4 knuckle shuffle 😂 i used my fingers part number is 14092 brand is doorman
Donde se consigue esa pieza ?
09 tahoe and this happened to me at 198k miles
Como se llama esa pieza
This just happened to me at 157000 miles
That’s installed wrong
Totally. This was posted 2 years ago. I'm betting he had to fix it again.
