    I have a 2000 GMC crew cab and your instructions helped greatly. I needed to get the top cover of the steering column to find a short in the hazard switch that was nocking out all my tail light system. Thank you Problem fixed.

    i pulled mine apart yesterday to fix tow/haul. tiny wires were broken and i tried everything to reconnect them. then i researched the shift lever and found the tow haul connector on the shift lever. now i know where it connects. thanks! ill post a video on my fix.

    This is perfect. Basic and to the point. Got my steering column off in less than 7 min. Thank you. A thorough video on how to replace the ignition switch would be great. I am having an issue of my tach and speedometer intermittently not working and a shifting issue. I checked all fuses and I now believe based off searching web that it's a faulty ignition switch.

  • @joannelee53

    Very helpful. It took a while to find instructions on the "hard part", removing the cover to access the ignition switch specific to 2002 Chevy Silverado. Haven't gotten the screws out yet it feels as though they are missing so I will try again using 1/8 allen wrench as you suggested! Thanks a bunch ~ JoJo

    Thanks for the vid. Almost was my problem. heh. Sloppy as your kids room here too, but someone had this off before and didn't put fasteners back.. I undid bottom and boot, and was able to get to screw w/o removing top. Screw was tight. Huh. slop in mine was due to busted return spring in the channel there that pushes lever back at driver. For temp fix, I stuck a piece of plastic in there to make what is left of spring good enough and checked for op. It works. I'll have to find part # and someday replace. Appreciate your vid, and good luck everyone!

    • @ovnox
      @ovnox 5 лет назад

      John H once you take off the covers, use a small screwdriver or a pick to retrieve the broken spring pieces. Go to ace hardware, match up the spring diameter and gauge. I recommend getting a couple of them. You will have to cut to length. I made my about 7/8” long. Reinstalling is tricky but completely possible without destroying or taking things more apart. I think I put the truck in neutral, I want to say it gave me more working room

  • @jimbo1326
    @jimbo1326 6 лет назад +1

    You used an 1/8 in. allen wrench to get the steering column cover off in this video, but you used a T20 torx to get the cover off in the video where you changed out the ignition cylinder. How is that? Thanks.

    • @TheDaninator
      @TheDaninator  6 лет назад +1

      Jim Bo the corners of the Allen wrench fit just enough in the torx screw to turn it. The screws aren’t that snug that it would round out the star pattern in the screw.

  • @dmrtechnology6033
    @dmrtechnology6033 4 года назад +1

    Dan, would you happen to know the thread(s)/size(s) of the three TORX bolts you removed from the column cover to open up/remove both halves? They're all missing from my 2001 Suburban; I recently replaced the shift lever (to restore the OE tow/haul wire connection), and the rubber boot that came with the replacement lever (a little stiffer than the OE) keeps pushing the cover halves apart when I move the lever up into park. Too much sensitive stuff in the covered area to let that keep happening ...

    • @TheDaninator
      @TheDaninator  4 года назад

      I believe they were T20 torx screws.

    Why do they always have to make the overdrive switch like this, why do they always have to have this wire so tight in that space. why can't they just have it going to a connector in the steering wheel where it freely rotates and the steering wheel connects off to another place to the transmission, so there is no tight wire inside the steering wheel ????

    • @TheDaninator
      @TheDaninator  7 лет назад

      you may risk tearing the boot sliding it over the handle. With the old boot out of the way, you may be able to access the screw that holds the shifter in place. You may be able to slide the boot in from the bottom. The boot needs to be set back into the grooves to be seated properly.
