I'm a musician who adored the in-the-ear Widex hearing aids I got over 2 decades ago. The noise cancellation was fantastic. After that pair, I got Phonak behind-the-ear and it was a nightmare for playing music. (I guess it thought my violin sound was feedback.) I had to take out my hearing aids whenever I played, and I know other musicians who do the same with their Phonak hearing aids. But now I'm back in Widex and will never use another brand, not as long as I'm playing music!
As an audiologist I selected Widex Moments when I experienced a sudden hearing loss myself last year (unilateral). Zen Relax program was a must to manage my tinnitus. Also their Mediterranean turquoise was my favorite color of all the manufacturers. Trying out a pair of the SmartRICs this weekend. Already noticed reduced noise from my hair brushing across the mics.
I was wondering if you have any updated feelings about the SmartRICs. I am testing the Widex Moments and the noise from my hair is challenging for me. TIA
Hi Matthew, I'm a Widex Sheer 440 RIC user. I chose this because I'm a vocal and instrumental musician, and I have somatic tinnitus. Had the units since early November '23 and I'm really happy with them. I'd like to be able to use Auracast...
Very excited to try these and experience the 0 delay. AS a blind hearing aid user or rather, as a blind person who has yet to buy hearing aids, I feel we have drifted so far away from real sounds. It's all AI this and noise canceling that, but we forget the fact that most hearing aids make everyone sound like robots. For someone who can't see and relies on their hearing for nearly all the perception of the world around them, that delay is horrible and takes away my perception of echos. I've never tried a Widex but I feel they at least are going in the right direction. less is more, let the brain do what it is supposed to do and not some cut down processor trying to run AI. I think with the 0 delay, the ability to comprehend speech in background noise should become a lot easier as well without all the signal processing :)
I am an avid audiophile and was interested in the 440 when I heard about the SmartRIC. One question I have about the SmartRICs and have been frustrated trying to get an answer to is aside from the new form factor, better charger, and improved microphone directionality, are all of its other features equivalent to the Moment Sheer 440? Widex’s website is silent about its other features.
I went ahead and got the SmartRICs, and after about a month, I am very pleased with them. Listening to music is a revelation. I had no idea how much clarity and dynamics I was missing before hearing aids.
I agree. I feel like when I listen to music in my hi Fi system, its like I am hearing it like I am back in my 20’s. The detail, fullness and nuance of the music is fantastic. Each time I pull a record off the shelf that I haven't listened to for a while, it is fantastic.
Thank you. I just placed my order for a pair today from a local audiologist I'm working with. Which version of Bluetooth is used, and does it incorporate the AptX HD audio, or LDAC protocols? This is a secondary concern for me but I have phones which do support AptX and can appreciate what it does. Thanks again. Fine review.
Widex for 7 years now. I've had had the Evolve, Evoke, and both Moments. I tried Phonak last year and did not like them. And my COM-Dex is my favorite device to stream audio all day long.
Hi Matthew. I have the Widex Moment RIC from over 2 years ago. I think I qualify for a new set... I am happy with the sound of my Moments but not the Bluetooth. Did the Bluetooth get any better at all on these? Is there any way to use it on more than just my iPhone? I do love the new charger but not sure that is enough reason to upgrade. Thanks again.
My first pair of hearing aids were Siemens, still using Signia. my audiologist in the last year has tried me on Phonak Paradise, then Resound LiNX Quattro, then Signia Pure Charge 5AX after a funding application since Hearing Australia has switched to resound as there publicly funded option. I’ve found the 5Ax to be more natural than the other alternatives, but it was a bit to get used to after using Signia BTE hearing aids for so long. can’t get away from Signia
I just got the Phonak Lumity life 90, I'm very impressed, Went camping two days later and charged them 8 times (days) with the case before it was dead ! Highly recommend them.
Hello, I have the Widex Moment from a few years back. If you use Bluetooth have you noticed any improvement in connections and/or sounds? I too plan to stay with Widex for the sound quality. I play guitar and really need a quality organic sounding hearing aid. I am thinking of upgrading soon, but Bluetooth connectivity is the weak point on the Moments.
Just got these in the 330 model. So far so good. Pros: I like the size and design. They play well with glasses. Sound is very natural. Handy portable charger. Good tinnitus features. Con: Don't like that the Bluetooth won't connect to PC without dongle.
The chart at 6:00 indicates the SmartRIC isn’t suitable for hearing loss below 20db. Much like the Widex Moment™ sRIC RD with P-Receiver. Is there a M-Receiver version, with ≥0db suitability for folks with milder deficits? TIA
I just started wearing Phonac Audéo Lumity hearing aids. Because of SSNHL, I have reverse slope hearing loss in one ear as well as "normal" slope hearing loss of higher frequencies in both ears. I am also a professional classical musician, typically singing in an ensemble or conducting an ensemble. Friends who are also classical musicians say I should get Widex (at a mush higher price) because it's the best for music. What is your experience with that? Can Phonac be programmed to provide natural, excellent, rich sound for music when I am either the musician or the listener? Or would you recommend going with Widex? Widex is so much more expensive than Phonac that I have to be very sure of making the right investment. Thank you for your help.
OK found out that you turn the smartric off by putting them in the case and pressing the hidden button on the bottom until they shut off. I have my SmartRic but not really impressed. Too much feedback, too loud, doesn't deal well with wind noise and traffic noise. They didn't seem to improve my guitar sounds either. I know a lot of this could be setup but I'll probably return them and wait for the Philips 9050's instead.
Been trying the new Oticon Intent for the past month. I have been a Widex user since 2015, most recently the Evoke. I have to say I like the Oticon, but I am not sure I love them. Their new technology is extensive, and I am starting to think that sometimes less is more. I don't feel I understand conversations as well in large venues such as a hall with a live band. The other thing I don't like about them is the technology that changes your hearing pattern every time you move your head one way or the other. I have a water fountain in my backyard and facing the fountain I am fine but when I turn away, it's like someone just shut the faucet off. The hearing aids then focus on a new sound in the direction I am looking. I find the quick change in outdoor sounds to be somewhat annoying. I have a couple days to decide if I am going back to Widex and the SmartRIC. I worry that the SmartRIC may not be as good as my current Oticon Intent, however. I am hoping my audiologist will let me try them and then make a decision between the the two.
Any idea of the frequency response? As someone with reverse slope hearing loss, I would like to know both the upper and lower limits 3dB down just like any other headphone provides.
I tried Widex Moment Sheer last March. I really liked them but at $6500 for the pair I could not afford them. OTCs will not work for my hearing deficits. So I have none at all.
So does anyone know how to turn these off without putting them into the charger? I've heard a magnet can do it. No off setting in the app. How would you turn them off if you want to send them in for repair for instance or preserve you battery?
Mathew: Confused and still looking for my first HA’s. Signia IX is #1 consideration, Widex #2 because Widex needs an external device to support reasonable BT range. Both have extended high freq. support. Signia’s dual processing scheme seems promising. My buddy likes his Phonaks. Suggestions?
Oticon has up to 10kHz bandwidth. Signia sometimes require additional devices for streaming. Phonak has a fantastic portpholio of streaming devices and capability. Depends what you want from your hearing aids.
