A final thought I had was we know that Danny's notebook was missing from his murder scene. Then all his bedside items were randomly on the side table in the room where they were taking bids. I'm presuming this was a set up by Kira, expecting her daughter to thieve the notebook and to discover her. But wow, that is a BIG assumptive set up that so many things could have gone wrong.
Overall, I enjoyed the final reveal of Viktor Sams and how Kira made the transition. I did not like that she herself had succumbed to the corrupt power she was trying to dismantle. Comeuppance! I also enjoyed the revelation of what a good guy Tripp really is, not leaving without his family and looking after his declining father.
Can't wait for season 2. 😀
Tripp turned out to be good and Imogene was so hyper focused on solving the case she didn’t care about anyone’s well being
And yea what if Imogene didn’t steal that notebook they are all screwed
Some weak threads pulled it along but I do hope we get a season 2
if u go back to episode 1 u see kira standing in the background and danny talking to her. they leave it wide open for u to see

Yea I was satisfied for the most part with the end and idk what critics expect not everything is gonna be only murders in the building

Lauren Patten, Mandy Patinkin, and Angela Zhou acting was amazing throughout the season. Didn't get much of Mandy at the end but it's all good. Excited for season 2

The CGI from her mom was always sketchy from the beginning. I didn't think they would go the route of her being Viktor Sams but I assumed the mom was alive at moments during the show.
Yea looking back they should’ve just used a different actress cause that cgi idk wasn’t it
Really could’ve used another actress but I guess when she told lewellyn about her eyes being “blue” I was still confused cuz I didn’t catch that hildi and her mom was alike at all. It’s all in the DETAILS that we miss
I had a lot of wild guesses over the weeks--one of which was that Kira was Hilde AND Victor Sams. So, I feel good about it. And, I also agree big time with you about the ending really working--even with the "suspension-of-disbelief" issues that you point out.
Regarding the not recognizing Kira problem: I LOVE your reference to "Murder in Three Acts." I watched & have a copy of the Peter Ustinov made-for-tv version, mainly because Emma Samms is so, so HOT. And, yes, the disguised character twist works very, very well. Every time I watch the video, I'm taken aback about how well they pull it off; even when I'm looking at the "fake" character in the scene.
My thought about Kira/Hilde is that the show should have simply hired TWO actresses. There are enough female actors who are look-a-likes, that they could have made it work. Right off the top of my head: Ali Larter as the young Kira, and Nicole Forrester as the Hilde/Kira. And there are plenty of others they could choose from.
Regarding the resolutions to the many mysteries, the one item I totally missed was Anna killing her mother. In fact, right after your final theories video, I was going to post a comment about how wrong that theory is--but didn't get around to it. However, in my own defense: Anna losing control and hitting her mother, IS out of character. Tripp is the child with anger issues, so I would have accepted him as Katherine's killer more readily.
In summary, (a) thanks for hosting these discussions; (b) so far this year, "Death and Other Details" is the BEST mystery show...far better than "A Murder at the End of the World" and "Monsieur Spade"--both of whom fell apart in their finales; and, just before coming onto your site, I read that the "Death and Other Details" producers are very optimistic about a second season--with Imogene, Laila, Jules, and Teddy (and I assume Rufus). So we may all be back together.

They did it so much better in murder in 3 acts with the same actor tho so idk why they couldn’t make it work here

@@NerdsAtNite The make-up in "Murder in 3 Acts" was the key. It worked well with the actor--and the specific foreign location.
When the make-up is done wrong, it's a complete disaster. I'm thinking of the John Huston film "The List of Adrian Messenger" with big name stars with packed on make-up, that were more masks than faces.
Yea lots of factors working together to make that work well and ohh I don’t think I’ve ever seen that movie but I’ll def give it a watch
Kira was on the boat as staff day 1, Danny killed as he saw, his death kira “came aboard” as interpol. The next death was the governor. If Danny hadn’t died, would kira still be fake staff till gov. Death? Which happened on like day 5 or something. That’s one of a few issues I had, why would Kira NEED TO BE ON THE SHIP before she pretended to be interpol. Why not just arrive on the chopper like the rest of the fake cops, she didn’t NEED to be there day 1 and it just put the plan at risk. As Danny death was impromptu the real plan wouldn’t have kicked off till gov death day 5 or what ever so why be on the board day 1? I have a couple other gripes but I still really enjoyed it. KNIVES OUT vibes
Yea Kira being onboard early was def a head scratcher as the whole plan still would’ve worked without her being on board atleast until they needed fake interpol to come in. They couldve made up any reason for interpol to need to come on board so yea seems like she was just placed there to get the plot started

I tend to agree with you that the "hot head" should never be a real suspect... but knives out kinda blows this off!
That’s why I said on a rare occasion it might be them
But also I feel like the hot head in that movie is Michael Shannon not Chris Evans
Chris is just a 💩head brat in that movie not necessarily a hot head
I totally called it in my comment on you episodes 1+2 episode about the character in the background with similar hair to Imogene in the first episode. I was leaning more towards the twin angle but her being the mom is a good reveal too!
Ahhh yes indeed you did! Yea the twin theme I thought would be more prevailing but the amount of people who commented that Hilde was Kira really started making me a believer by the end
You did. But how come none of the other people working there noticed her? Teddy who is so in control didn't notice her. And then subsequently recognised her as Hildi.

Thank you for the shut out, but i think we are all MVP's on this one. We all got some things right and some things wrong. Now before i turn into mister Negative cause i do have a lot of questions and criticism about this ending, i just want to say thank you for all the videos. It's really been a lot of fun watching the show and then coming in here and discussing it. I hope there's another season just so we can do it again🙂
Now for my criticism. My main one is the word detail. It's in the title and they tell us to watch for details. Turns out there were none except his drink going from green to blue. The most obvious turned out to be the truth. But why though. What was her plan on the ship? She already gave Lawrence dementia so who was she after. The family that raised her daughter like their own? The lawyer, the governor, and why were the Chun's there. What they do to her. And if Danny hadn't noticed she wasn't on the crew list, not that he recognised her cause no one did, what would have happened? Did she pretend to be Interpol on the fly or was that the plan all along. And why didn't the real authorities get involved cause they could see what was going on through Derek's videos.
She build this giant shadow tech company to get revenge on a clothing company and waited 18 years to do so
And then Imogene turns on her Mom with the help of her little gang. She also turned on her adopted family. Tripp went out of his way to save her, removing his fathers name before hers and she couldn't care less that Anna was missing 15 minutes before the bomb goes off. And she just leaves with her Mom. I'm sorry but she's a horrible protagonist and this whole love triangle. Does anyone care who she ends up with? Is the guy who plays Jules even an actor, cause my God is he stoic. Not even the slightest bit of chemistry between them.
And then it ends with the Scooby doo gang looking at a new murder. I would really like them to move on. Rufus and Imogene takes on a case that has nothing to do with this at all.
Oh and we said Anna killed her mom but watching it and it felt completely out of character. She didn't just hit her ones but twice. And then Kira shows up and acts like she knew it was gonna happen and Anna seemed to know who she was. DId she know? Was she in on it and if so why? So many questions!
Ah i rambled i know but it felt good getting it off my chest🙂

Anna killing her mother for Imogen was the weird part for me. I didn’t think she was that sympathetic towards her.
I didn't like the the last two episodes as much as I thought I would have. Overall, I love the show! The music, color, and the first 5 episodes were 🤌🏾
I get it there was a lot they had to do to close all the loops they opened

The only reason I finished this season was this channel. Ploting and moving my characters around the chart was fun. But the show was mid. Better than other shows tho. Looking for the next one

There’s lots of channels that just stare into a camera and talk about the show but I wanted it to be an experience for not just me but everyone who wanted to talk more about the show

I'm really struggling to love this show & only murders in the building (both made by Hulu). Great visuals but too many details being thrown at us in 10 episodes. Back in the day this level of entanglement would have been 5 seasons. Its too much and you can tell they really thought they did something

Can you explain what that very last scene was? The dead body and limbs when they were skiing. Who’s body is that? And what was Anna’s last job from viktor sams?
I don’t think it’s revealed who’s body it was nor if it was connected to it being Anna’s favor that she owes Viktor Sams

UPDATE: Totally bummed. Hulu announced today, March 29th, that the show is cancelled. Damn...it was my favorite new show of the year.

@@NerdsAtNite At this point, I just don't understand "what" it takes to be a Successful tv show. I know that "Death..." only received 60% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes; so, for some reason viewers and reviewers/critics weren't very supportive.
Also, Hulu has a lot of mystery series on deck, so maybe their strategy is to just have one-season shows, introducing a new slate every year.
Lastly, actors are very busy--and maybe the "key" performers (Mandy, Violett, Lauren) have other commitments. Given the final scene of the show, the second season could not go forward without at lest Violett and Lauren--and, remember, Lauren is a Broadway musical theater star, so that could be part of it.
The article about the cancellation is on the Hollywood Reporter online site; and there was no mention of the producers shopping the series to other networks.

Also, Hulu has a LOT of new mysteries coming up; and Hulu may be going to a new strategy of one-season shows. Every show gets one season, then a new slate of shows the next season. It may satisfy the need of viewers to always have a new shining object to talk about.
Plus, accomplished actors are always in demand. Lauren ("Anna") is an established Broadway musical theater star; and given the final scenes in "Death" a second season couldn't go forward without Lauren--as the adversary to Violett's "Imogene" and new bigwig in the "Victor Sams" crime organization.
The Hollywood Reporter Online article about the show's cancellation does not mention if the producers are shopping the series to another network.
That's it. I'm thoroughly bummed.
Loved this show! Everyone, but Inigo Montoya, slept around like a soap opera, but the mystery was so interesting! Mandy Patinkin will always be Inigo Montoya to me. He was so great in this role too. We need a Rufus Cotesworth series!

What if Kira was never Imogen's real mother? What if Anna is Kira's true daughter? That would justify a lot of unexplained emotions and acts. And how about the last scene with Andreas? He is there to support Kira's daughter, not to blackmail her. Did anyone else had similar thoughts ?
