Awesome video! I use the Sony a7c II for over a year now for both my youtube content and my photography projects. I have been amazed with this camera and I can only recommend to everyone that is looking to have high video/photography performance into one camera. The only thing I dont like about the camera is its rolling shutter which you mentioned. I would also consider getting an a6700 as a backup camera, you cant go wrong with any of these 2 cameras to be honest
Thank you :) I find them complementing each other very well. I've downsized to pretty much 6700 with 16-35mm GM2 and A7Cii with 70-200mm GM2. This full fill my needs for photos and videos. I can interchange the lenses between the cameras to go wide or tele too. I think the rolling shutter is still acceptable in the A7Cii if panning is not harsh.
I shoot both the A7RV & A7Cii. The A7RV is my photo camera used for jobs & A7Cii is my travel/backup camera. But, it's also my primary video camera. This is mainly due to it having "crisper" images due to its 7K downsample to 4K. The A7RV has a softer pixel binned 6k to 4K image (that being said, A7RV video is fine for IG) contrary to a comment below re: A7CR. However, I do agree with you that the A6700 is a very good hybrid camera and I wish I had considered it further before getting the A7Cii (which I really like, not regrets). This might all change when Sony releases the A7V this year rumored to have a new 44 mp sensor and (I'm hoping) un-cropped 4k60.
Wow, thanks for sharing your experience. Very useful indeed. I haven't used A7RV or A7CR personally for video so I have no comment on them. But I am all ears for users feedback. On the other hand, I am super looking forward to the release of A7V. If I can record proper S-I formats at 60fps FF without overheating, then that's something I would consider in 2027 instead of cinema cams. Haha..
@@AlissaAndJay A lot of people criticze the video features think that there are no options for low rolling shutter, but the pixel binned mode is really nice for that. I shoot my kids sports in FF 4k60p with very little Rolling shutter.
Wow, nice to know! TBH, I kinda fell for the internet's criticism about the A7CR. I should've been thorough before buying the A7Cii. But now that I own the A7Cii, I don't regret buying it for the price during the sale. I would still want a cine cam for a long form video content, but that is for another day, LOL.
@@AlissaAndJay You made me test out the XAVC-SI and my 256GB card filled up before the camera over heated. The oversampling seems to be the cause of most of the overheating issues...
i was rooting for the A7CII but it having a single shutter curtain really threw me off. How such a small thing is a deal breaker? easy: i shoot fast action and a single shutter curtain is going to cause rolling shutter because it still needs to use the sensor 's own readout speed, so i went for the A7IV. What I dislike about A7iv is not having a top grip screen like A77II, and the EVF is too large so I tend to miss peripheral composition.
@AlissaAndJay the fact Sony could keep doing the perfect cameras yet refuses to... They did it: A99II, and then it all went downhill. What they invested in revolutionary technology they neglected for aesthetics and ergonomy. Good to know you're in this art for much before than 2020! many photography/videography CCs haven't touched a camera before the pandemic
Haha.. Yeah, thanks. For me, the art is more important than the tools. I started with disposable film cameras since 2002 then DSLRs then at one point I owned a A58 then A6000, A6300, D500, Xt4, Z6ii, FX30, G9ii, OM1 and now these 2 and x100vi. I am band agnostic but I dig lighter lenses from Sony now. These relatively chaper bodies gets my job done for now. Glad to meet you too.
@AlissaAndJay wow! that's a lot of experience! I started since 2008 with a point and shoot cyber shot camera that had crazy high dynamic range, then in 2012 i got my first DSLR (an A200) and six years after it became crazy, my parents gifted me for my 20th birthday an A77II, they were very much offering me the A99II but i was afraid I could break it (as much as the A77II but A77II was €1200 while A99II was €3200) and my A77II lasted for very long, even up to this day it can still autofocus greatly and shoot but the image stabilization sometimes trepidates, the EVF got really dim (even on max setting) and the main screen cables detached from the inside of the camera. The leather body wrap (no custom skin) also was coming off, and just replacing it which was the cheapest fix was €120, so fully revamping the camera was completely worthless, hence why I chose the A7IV and LA-EA5, however firmware 4.0 ruined autofocus for all my lenses, even G SSM ones. Nice to meet you too, and happy new year! My photo gallery is Minolta Master on the flicky page!
Thanks for your opinion. The intent of this video is show the video features between these 2 cameras, it has nothing to do with the other camera systems. I mentioned it in the video if you watched it completely. Also on the topic of G9ii, I believe GH7 is much better professional option compared to G9ii.
Sorry, this video is a comparison between a6700 and a7cii. I'd appreciate it if you can keep the discussions under that topic. Thank you. May be we can have a separate G9ii discussion on a different video. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

Very good video! The A7CR is a better video camera than both of these allowing you to use downsampled and pixelbinned video.
Thank you very much :)
Thanks for your input on the A7CR, I haven't explored it yet but it I would love to someday.

Interesting find from the A7CR.
Yeah, the over sampling is the usual suspect. Thanks for confirming.
thanks!

Interesting take on A7iv! I do miss SLT series too. Loved that form factor. Haha.
Rolling shutter is an issue with A7Cii for fast action shooting.

Lumix G9 ii Much better than A6700. A professional body is better for video and photography.
