Lee Marvin was one of the era of actors who went to war. He wasn't the type to give false praise. You can bet eveything he said was heartfelt and true to him.
Just loved the hissing "ssss" of Byner's John Wayne impersonation. All of his best impersonations were ingeniously absurd, a quality that not many "more accurate" impressionists could master.
This was great! We will never see anything even a little bit as it was in that amazing, wonderful time of Golden Years of Hollywood and TV. I wish I could find this whole TV show salute to John Wayne, headed up by Sinatra.
I've seen a bunch of greats around there...John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin and who knows who other ....unforgettable all of them plus William Holden, Gregory Peck ...what an era guys !

John Byner was such a talented guy and gifted impressionist (wasn't he part of "Copycats?") - his Wayne is arguably the best ever. remember his show well and his many appearances in so many other shows etc
I saw this clip and was going to pass it by, thinking it would be just plain bad, but Byner and Marvin really pulled it off. Better than most crappy skits...like SNL for example.
John Wayne Died Just a Few Days After His 72nd Birthday In June 1979..Not The Greatest Actor...But He Made A Considerable Amount Of Great Films. Thanks John.
@@marylawson6060 Yeah, Byner did a great impression of Ed Sullivan back in the day. I'm not in the business, however, I can do a great Rodney Dangerfield. Some of those impressionists when I watch them now, 50-60 years after I originally saw them on Sullivan, Carson, Mike Douglas, etc., were not as good as I had remembered them. And that includes some of Rich Little's stuff.
@@jamesanthony5681 A lot of people did Ed Sullivan, really big show. Robin Williams also was so creative and Rich does Alfred Hitchcock very well. Miss the old shows.
I miss all the old guys, the seventies were great, the Duke looks unwell ,it must have been close to his time, I recommend you read his epitaph, it's quite profound ,it wasn't meant to be a political statement but with what is going on in the world today I believe it's quite poignant,

When he was in good health and in a “public setting” JW was charming. When you ran into JW in the private sector he was an asshole. He was nasty as hell in Ridgeway, CO filming True Grit. Saw him in a grocery store and watched as an innocent asked him for an autograph... he went berserk. Screaming at the poor woman that “Am I not allowed a private life???!!!” All he had to say was no thank you and she would’ve left. Glenn Campbell was so sweet and friendly. The director always bought every child in the restaurant an ice cream when he ate. Never saw Kim Darby. Never saw Robert Duvall but JW was a particular asshat... repeatedly.
We just didn’t realize how lucky we were at the time to have the great entertainment and comedians we did.

Yes. We were all fortunate enough to have seen these stellar stars in their prime. Times were good.
Just loved the hissing "ssss" of Byner's John Wayne impersonation. All of his best impersonations were ingeniously absurd, a quality that not many "more accurate" impressionists could master.
What a great piece of film, Lee Marvin has always been a favourite of mine, as well as John Wayne.

John Wayne was an unrepentant racist.
Wayne, .. Marvin......Sinatra.............Real Hollywood Stars...........Era gone...........but not forgotten............We have Film.. Thank God.

always liked John Byner. Saw him once having breakfast with his 2 daughters ( I think ) in Malibu. A great memory ! Loved his show .
great lee marvin tribute to the greatest duke wayne
That was a generation of actors that loved America. Lee Marvin was a Marine and a close friend of the Duke
Excellent.....Lee Marvin also a great actor.
Much respect to Lee Marvin. He was honest. He was a true American hero. I respect Lee Marvin the way I respect Gene Hackman.
Both were Marines.
My darling late husband loved John Wayne.
Lee Marvin.......up there with the best of them .
Highly intelligent
Highly articulate
So why did he smoke 120 cigarettes a day?

Maybe he liked cigarettes?
The Duke looked really touched at that comic tribute and Lee Marvin's kind words.

Lee Marvin was a tough guy for real.
Lee Marvin cool tough guy. Mr John Wayne...well whaddaya know...fine gentlemen and a great cowboy.
Love it, The Duke was my Man. Love him today and always. He was a true man.
Milk? What's milk? Where's come from?
I don't think I'll tell ya while ya drinking it.
I think I'll borrow that line when I take my friend for sushi.
Nothing quite as good as a John Wayne movie.
Except for a Lee Marvin movie!
@@wildbillharding Name 10 Lee Marvin movies, I bet you can't but I'm sure you could name a lot more of the Duke's.
I WISH SOMEONE HAD THE WHOLE SHOW

John just celebrated his 86th Birthday 2 days ago.
Lee marvin was nephew of our countrys greatest hero Robert e Lee
Funniest skit I've seen in a long time
Proper men proper actors...legends

Great stuff.. The good old days... The Best in showbiz....

"Milk? What's milk?" LOL Classic

Lee Marvin was as tough as John Wayne!
too funny!....thanks for sharing!
Lee Marvin was an interesting guy. A great interview. Look some up on RUclips.
John about the best doing John Wayne. Great
Mary Lawson you re not serious. It s a terrible john wayne impression. And i like john byner. His singing impressions are far superior

lol that was great
👍💗
If Duke liked well, dammit, so do I.
So weird...at 2:37, that profile of Henry Fonda could be mistaken for Clint Eastwood circa 2005. Plus, where the heck is Jimmy Stewart?
That other guy did a great lee marvin though
Brilliant
Don't forget John Byner
Andy Devine??
Very funny!
Pure humor...lmao
