    for cleaning I wouldn't use a wire brush just because you're introducting a ton of fine scratches. That might be fine if you 100% use rtv to seal, but with a rubber gasket you're playing with fire. Not to mention all the debris getting onto the bearings.

      A brass or copper brush would be OK since they are softer than steel, but a steel brush is likely to cause scratches.

    This is really nice man, good timing too, my civic that I bought a couple months ago came with a universal drain plug since the original one was stripped... I don't like it and it kinda leaks too,I ordered a new oil pan, and gasket just now and needed to know how to remove/reinstall oil pan. Much thanks!

    Good video! I recommend safety glasses whenever using a sander, wire wheel, or working under a car. You don't want to get stuff in your eyes. One ER visit will wipe out any savings you made doing the work yourself. Your eyes are really important and getting anything in them, from debris to brake cleaner, requires an immediate visit with a doctor. You'll also need something for pain for a few days. Fortunately, non-catastrophic eye injuries heal pretty fast. Safety glasses are very cheap! Use them!!! And torque specs are either in ft. lb. or N m (Newton meters not nanometers).

    I made a really dumb mistake of overfilling my oil by about a quart. Well, on cranking that extra quart instantly started leaking from what looks like the oil pan gasket - civic has 150k miles. I'm really hoping I can replace the gasket and my problems will be solved. Will comment again on if this fixes the leak or if I'm screwed.

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  2 месяца назад

      I've made the mistake of over filling when i started out with working on my first car which was a 00 civic. These cars when overfilled will leak out of the oil pan of all places. Replacing the gasket will correct the issue.

    I used a small impact on the putting it on process and pinched the gasket so I had to redo it and just used a hand rachet had a jack holding the pan in place while I did it but my gasket wasn't like this one

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  2 года назад +1

      I definitely wouldn’t recommend an impact but a ratchet that is either powered or not. My gasket is different as the engine is from an EX model. The other models use a flat gasket and the pan is made of steel instead of aluminum like the one in this video.

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  2 года назад +2

      Techanically if you use your basic RTV your supposed to wait a day to fully cure. I like to use “The Right Stuff” by Permatex which cures fully in a couple of hours. It’s about double the cost of regular rtv but it’s easier to apply and dries faster

      So I got the oil pan fixed yesterday, afterwards I let it set for 4 hours, and when I went to check it, it was nothing on the groun but it was a little bit of oil around the bolts on the oil pan. is it normal for oil residue after an oil pan replacement or does that means it's still drying from the oil pan replacement

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  2 года назад

      Did you clean the old oil off the bolts and pan as well as the mating surfaces? it shouldn't leak unless it wasn't sealed properly or you put too much oil in the engine, these engines take 3.5 qts of oil. if you go above that it will be pushed out from the oil pan. also are you leaking from the valve cover? could be oil coming from the top down.

    • @latoryajones3607

    • @MobileCarMechanic
      @MobileCarMechanic  2 года назад +1

      Are you referring to the black metal cover at 9:35? That’s called an Inspection cover. If that’s the case that is where the transmission and the engine meet. Your oil pan if leaking will have oil on that cover or if a rear main seal is bad will potentially cause oil to be on that cover and at the bottom of the transmission and engine seam
