Finally a video showing how it's done! I found the instructions on an old Honda tech forum post, but it was very drawn out, if I followed it, I would've ended up removing the entire kick panel from the driver side, and part of the center console, thought to myself that there has to be an easier way and you showed me that there is! I'm going to do this this weekend on my 2000 Honda Civic Ex Coupe! My asthmatic lungs thanks you!
Glad the video helped. I also got inspiration from that Honda tech post as I got tired of getting hit in the eye at random times with leaf bits. Also helped a bit with the smells outside. Cheers!
😂
A 96 civic DX is different. I'm having a lot of trouble getting to the slot. Having to unbolt and unscrew pretty much EVERYTHING. I'm stuck.
Excellent video, I'm gonna change mi cabin air filter this weekend, thanks so much I've been searching this tutorial everywhere, greetings🙏🏼🙏🏼
Glad it helped
I just purchased a 2000 civic si and your videos are immensely helpful. Thank you sir
Glad our videos helped. I’m looking to buy an SI as well. Market is crazy! Cheers!

Thank you for your support.
Great demonstration video 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video, thank you so much!🙌🏿
Glad it was helpful!
@@MobileCarMechanic Just what I was looking for, wish I had this video last summer! I bought a Hatchback and the doors came rigged up with speaker wire and just about anything they could find, I want to replace the birds nest of wires they left under my dash board and do it the right way, now that I know what harness I need! I’ll definitely be going to a wrecking yard soon!🙌🏿
Great job 👍🏼 thank you
Thanks for watching!
Obrigado amigo me ajudou muito. (Brazil)
Thank you.
An old degraded cabin air filter would be why i keep finding what seems to be old and deteriorated foam in my 99 Si air vents. And one of my problems on the goose chase to restore AC this whole summer..
Could be that or leaves that get in there sending small bits to your face.
we have the some problem LNAO😢
@@end00196 I figured out why I have no AC… it’s a bad Pressure Sensor in the Receiver/Drier.. took me a whole year to figure it oht
Where you find that out ? I'm chasing the ac problem here in tex. @@brandenhaberek
What is that brown filter sponge type deal above what would be ac ducts/Blower?
It’s more of a cushion/seal. They always fall apart over time as it gets brittle. Hasn’t affected anything!
Gracias
Your welcome
There is no official part for this but Is there any merit to adding some more screen to where the cabin air intake is at the top of the hood, all those small leaves/seeds will clog up the filter quickly if allowed to just fall in. Thoughts?
I imagine that it would help, never thought to look into it but makes sense as that is the point of entry. I'm sure small bits will still find their way in.
I have a 1996 Honda civic dx coupe that comes with ac but it doesn’t have the air filter cutout ?? Why is that
It appears that 96-98 Models out of the US have the provision for it, For some reason the US Market only got it in the 99-00
@MobileCarMechanic Hello i didnt found air filter on my honda civic 2000 ex mean i need buy that one belong to crv 95 to 01 !? Its fit !? Thanks
If it’s not there then yes you would need to buy one for the 95-01 CR-V
@@MobileCarMechanic
Thanks bro 👍
It’s complicated in the old cars the new one just pull down the glove box😅😂
I thought that was funny too 😂 still love this car though.
how much HP will this add to my prius?
You may blow the engine! Proceed with caution!
Oh no I read this comment too late!! I blew the engine! I was able to borrow my wife’s boyfriends car to go to work luckily
Prius don’t have ari filters just tampons and pads
Air*
I'm being thick maybe but are you saying the car doesn't come with a cabin air filter but you can get the filter housing out of a CRV and install one?
In the US market it was an option and not standard. But yes the 95-01 CR-V filter housing will fit.
Is the filter the same as the one on the crv? Im trying to save some money.
It’s the same filter as the CR-V. This filter I ordered was for a CR-V 95-01
@@MobileCarMechanic great! I'll be saving myself $50, thank you.
Hello, my 2000 Honda Civic does not have the filter or the frame to install the filter, do you have the number of that part to buy it? greetings
It was an optional accessory. You can either pick up one used from a 95-01 CR-V at a junkyard or Buy New online with this part number (80292-ST3-E01) for the frame. The filter (amzn.to/3SQC7ex ) can be ordered for a 95-01 CR-V from amazon like I did.
Where can I get the housing for the cabin filter
I went to a junkyard and picked mine from a CR-V which is 95-01. Or you can purchase online via eBay.
Do I need to use a housing or can I just put the filter in there?
How important is the housing? The part is discontinued, and it seems like it wouldn't be a big deal to just shove the filter into the hole without the housing...
It helps center things but I can’t imagine it would make a huge difference. I ended up going to a junkyard and getting the part from a CR-V
Yeah ... No
I have 1999 civic si without ac, can i still do this
You can still do this as it helps keep dirt out of the vents for the Heat and AC.
@@MobileCarMechanic I just checked and the black plastic isnt the same shape, so i cant put filter sadly
Hey, I appreciate this video. I've never cleaned out that part of my vehicle and as you can imagine I've got about 25 years of old leaves in there.
Can you give me more info on that caddy that you are using for the air filter? You mentioned it's from a CRV do you know the year?
I used to get pieces of leaves blown through the vents at times and it would go in my eyes. This thankfully solved that issue. 95-01 CR-V’s are where you want to get them from. Cheers!
@@MobileCarMechanicWell this is embarrassing, I thought 95-01 was a part number lmao, that's what I get for not paying attention. Got the part ordered, thanks man.
what's the filter part number ??

@@MobileCarMechanic Thank you for replying !
Why didnt yours hve a filter?
In the US I don’t think they were standard with any trim. I believe it was an optional accessory you could purchase separately. I'm pretty sure it was standard outside of the states.
@@MobileCarMechanic mine doesn't have one either and the aluminum piece to the left of the filter has debris in it so can I take a toothbrush to brush the debris off?
@@pennycarter2051 you can, just don't brush too hard.

I'm about to dig into blown blower motor. Not fun. But doable
Haven’t replaced one in these before but some cars are a pain. Good luck!
@@MobileCarMechanic my 96 civic w 225,000. The blower is right there. Sometime your removing dash
Lets say there isnt an air filter for the in cabin.. how much of a difference would this even make? Seems like the manufacturers didnt thinks it was a huge deal.. so whats the benefit?
They did outside of the US Market. Benefit is not having junk and leaves block airflow in the HVAC unit. I've also had leaf bits blow through the vents into my eyes in the past.
@@MobileCarMechanic yes I understand this. I was looking into it for the sake of colder AC air blowing.
I noticed air flow isn't as strong after retrofitting the filter.
@MobileCarMechanic I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. This is very important info. Definitely makes me not want to put a filter in.. most thought about gettin in to clean and obstructions on airflow. my 98 already has issues getting air cold enough with the old tech. How does your 89 blow in full blown heat?
It definitely wasn’t the strongest and would take time to cool down. The ac in these cars kind of suck honestly. But if you’re driving on a highway it’s decent. Definitely nothing like a modern car. When idle you’ll feel temps rise. Typically id get down to 40 - 60 degrees Fahrenheit in hot weather.
This is only true for 99-00 Civics and some 98 Civics. 96-97 Civic's do no not have a spot for the filter. I have two 96 civics and one 2000 civic.
Thanks for the info. Thought all 6th gens had the cabin air filter if you have ac.
Thank god I’m tired of vacuuming endless leaves out my car
Was tired of pieces of leaves flying in my face through the air vents so I feel your pain.
Looks about as easy as the 1998 accord. Not!
Haha yeah wish it could have been easier. My buddy did his 01 accord and was not so excited.
Why do they make it so hard to get to? Maybe its not for guys but for a girl it is. Things like filters that need cleaning or replaced should be within reach and pull right out. Dream on Penny......
Wish I could tell you why but yeah it’s definitely complicated.
