Wow, what an awesome setup! Thanks so much for all of the info, I am implementing several of your ideas into MY game room (pro-sound/stage power switches, 1-foot extension cords...brilliant!). I hope to soon be able to complete my setup (there are still MANY boxes to unpack, shelving to build, posters to hang, etc.). Your game room videos are by far my favorite...it gives me something to strive for, with my setup. :)
Here’s a tip* I use a pair of door stoppers under some of my consoles. It gives it that “kiosk display” look. Also, you can get a few 9-12 outlet power bars (like ones seen in mechanics garage) and mount them along the wall.
29:00 I have no clue what problems your having, but I have a Phillips model PH61150. It has 4 inputs including S-video and one output. It requires its own power, but it will automatically switch depending on the input signal and it's worked great for me since I bought it almost 20 years ago.
I won't say that this isn't impressive, because it is. My only worry here is the electricity delivery, more specifically the extension cords. Extension cords are ALWAYS a temporary solution and should never be used as a permanent one. The power delivery splitters you have are a good start at managing, but again, man those extension cords shouldn't be used permanently.
I absolutely love the way you have everything set up. I'm going to need to keep this video on reference for when I'm able to put something together for myself, though it probably won't be as extensive as yours. I think I'd start with an emulation box for easy access, and use it as a sort of checklist. Start with finding the systems that match up with the emulators, and getting flashcarts on those, splitting the collection up into something a little more authentic-feeling, then hunting down the individual games themselves over time. Plus, it would help give me an end goal. As much as I think it would be fun to build up a collection, I can't see myself collecting things just to own them, I'd prefer things I'd actually use. Using an emulation box as a starting point means that I'm going to naturally remove any games that I simply don't like and wouldn't ever play when the collection grew. I kind of liked what you did with the closet, but I think that it looks a bit odd as an empty space. Did you ever do anything with the closet space since making this video? Personally, I think I'd try to fit in more of those shelving units into the closet space itself, and use it as a bookshelf to collect the old strategy guides that they used to make. (I miss those, they had a lot of fun flavor text. I remember the StarFox 64 one had stuff on atmospheric makeup on each planet, and "historical" facts about each place. Modern walkthroughs like on GameFAQs are a lot more emotionless) Alternatively, you could try and find the various old gaming magazines like Nintendo Power or GamePro and fill the space with those. Get the full childhood experience of turning on an old game and having the strategy guide or magazine next to you as you went.
for the chair, the arm rests are gonna eventually work themselves loose, instead of tightening it down potentially too much, i highly reccomend using thread locker, that should make it nice and tight without loosening over time.
CRT’s are the way to go!! I’ve got a 36in. With RF, composite, component, and S-video! Can’t play light gun games on the newer stuff. I highly recommend component cables from HD Retrovision! I have a set for my SNES, Genesis, and Master System and they look fantastic! Especially the Sega consoles!
I was planning to print a row of logos on a sheet of cardstock, stick it to the switchboxes with double tape, and then just draw little arrows to the correct switch with a sharpie.
I'm somewhat curious as to how you manage to deal with large power bricks for some of the more recent systems like the Wii U, Xbox 360, Gamecube, ect. I've found in my own setup that having to deal with them and their limited length is the number one thing holding back my cable management. Amazing video by the way, your original multi-part setup tour was on of my main inspirations for building my own ready to play setup almost five years ago, and it's hard to imagine life without it now. Keep up the great work!
Most of the rectangular power bricks you mention are on the top shelf, like all the other bricks. It helps to have the systems close to the top. I have one that is tucked inside one of the trays. You should still be able to extend the cord, between the system and the brick with something like this: www.amazon.com/YEKELLA-Receptacle-Female-Extension-Adapter/dp/B07D13PLTL/ref=asc_df_B07D13PLTL/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=242022044358&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5844693401408076624&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9014985&hvtargid=pla-528994939868&psc=1

41:30 try looking for something like "wall mounted nail polish display" and I'm sure you'll find that in the results. I considered getting one for Gameboy games.
I went with a couple black wire shelves that fit under my custom desk and it works great. I would like to find some controller holders that can hook on the front of the shelves but haven't had any luck yet.
Do you cover any of your systems to prevent dust buildup when you're not using them? I have covers over my Saturn, Sanyo 3DO and a few others I dont use very often. My gameroom is in my basement, but I have constant ventilation going and a dehumidifier for when it does get moist down here and all of my stuff is well above a potential flood level.
Thanks for the links. You can try plugging the Ataris and rf systems into a composite switch box than run a composite cable to the rf adapter. Less signal loss than the rf switch box, maybe. The CRT would be fine on the wire rack. I have a 130+ pound HD CRT on one...which is probably too much, but any CRT under 100 lbs would probably be no problem...in your case I'd keep the stand though.
@@HowToX I saw that. It's cool. I thought you did it to avoid a bad signal from the rf switchboxes. Just suggesting an alternative if you wanted to get away from the dangling cords.
Cable management, I suggest they use zip ties for individual consoles, so you know, what cable is to what console, instead of one big bundle in my tie 👍
It’s a shame that your crt tv doesn’t have a component input. Maybe you could get a BVM or PVM to your liking at a reasonable price. You could even go full RGB Scart. :)
Been looking forward to this video for a while now, nice work! Couple of questions about the rack mounted power supplies: 1) How does they work with your Japanese consoles? Are you plugging step down converters into the Technical Pro units? 2) Are you aware of any other brands that make similar units? Just a bit conflicted about getting them - on the one hand, the individually switched design is perfect. But on the other hand, they do get quite bad reviews for build quality, and I’ve never seen a UK-style power outlet version with the individual switches. Keep up the great work 👍
My Japanese systems are the Neo Geo CD and Pippin. They run fine when I plug them in. I think they just use the AC adapters. As for the power supply, I know of one other called the Eliminator E107. It's in my living room. Lots of the lights have gone out. I don't recommend it. I suggest the Technical Pro, but mod it to have thicker gauge wiring.
Wow !! I thought I was the collector.. (Lol) I have nothing on your setup and Yes I watch from start to finish. My gaming setup consist of 20 gaming consoles. I'm not a fan of the bootlegs or 3rd parties takes all of grabbing the game and loading into the consoles. Wheres your Library of your games? Would like to see how you tackled that task..😁 I don't have a full room, but a area. It's my sun room, and im running out of space. You made good points in your video. I have dust covers my consoles to prevent of that sun tanning to my console, But well done you have a new sub. Looking forward to see more suggestions and input.👍
My heart stopped for a second when you said sun room. It's good that they are covered. My games are in another room, and can best be seen here: ruclips.net/video/3mGNa3JWGWQ/видео.html
If I may request a full tour of your home network/internet/ISP setup please? You just did a quick shot of your network coming into the game room but you didn't go into any details at all other then that & I'm curious please? TIA I hope.
Have you looked into the 16 port HDMI switcher (TESmart brand on Amazon)? It would simplify your setup & allow more connections also. Just a thought. Keep up the good work, your vids are a great way to relax.
@@HowToXJust fyi, here is the description from its Amazon page: "TESmart HDMI Switch 4K UHD 3840x2160@60Hz 16x1, 16 in 1 Out HDMI Switcher Box with RS232 LAN Port Support HDCP2.2 16 Port HDMI Switch" Hope this helps.
I use similar wire shelves, but not as wide or as tall, nor do I support as many systems. I trunk the wires down the side of the rear poles. It was a bit of a hassle to do it, but looks sleek. Have you ever thought of getting UV carpet panels and a UV light?
I'm a new subscriber, very nice room! But I have a question, not sure if others have asked this one. When you are chosing a console, and find out that console has different colors, or something special that stands out from the original look of that console, how do you go about choosing the console the want? Examples: Nintendo 64 black vs. The Funtastic series colors, GameCube silver vs black or indigo, playstation 4 black or white, etc.
Have you tried Jugee batteries, those are rated the same as a normal AA unlike the normal rechargeable, that and you can charge them with a USB cable. they won't report 1.2v because there's circuitry on them to make sure the voltage goes down linearly like a normal AA. they tend to work better with devices that have cercuitery on them, and they last a lot longer. since you asked for the link on the USB charger, I'm putting the link here www.amazon.com/s?k=jugee+batteries&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 or if you want them cheaper you can get them off of ebay straight from china www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=jugee+AA+rechargable&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=jugee
I probably could have explained it more. Basically, I have numbering throughout the room that's between 1 and 100. The lowest numbers are on the far left and they ascend as you move to the left. The 3DO is number 1. Some systems have attachments that take an additional plugs, like the Sega CD, so for those I label them as 7A and 7B, or sometimes 7.1 and 7.3. I have gaps in the numbering, which allows me to insert new systems into the setups without renumbering everything else. They just take an unassigned number. Some of the switchboxe buttons have ranges of numbers, like 1-4. I think that explains it.
Any console designed to play on standard definition is best played on standard definition. I hate play old games on an HDTV, they look so horrible! It also looks weird to play old games on a flatscreen, assuming you were playing those games on a curved screen CRT back in the day.
I want to set up a gaming tower in my family room with 4 hdmi consoles going to TVs in my family room and 2 tvs in my kid's bedroom. I basically want to load the game discs in the family room so the kids can use wireless remotes in their bedrooms. Do you know how this could be done? Specifically using wireless remotes in a room other than where the console is? Passing cables through walls is not a problem. Setting up Ps4, Ps5 xbox 1, and Switch in case it matters.
I wonder why you don't get one of those USB charging stations for the minis, those usually have about 6 USBs on them . they're smaller and can be hidden away easier, and you can just use the switch on the rack mount that and you don't need a whole power strip for a few USBs
@@HowToX sorry i didn't post one, some youtube channels don't like links, so www.amazon.com/Charger-RAVPower-Charging-Multiple-Compatible/dp/B00OQ19QYA/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3AZ5D45E4GKUT&dchild=1&keywords=usb%2Bcharger%2Bmulti%2Bport&qid=1602949490&sprefix=usb%2Bcharger%2Bmulti%2Caps%2C214&sr=8-4&th=1 It's good to overprovision USB power supplies, otherwise if they're being used for a long time, you could heat them up. I had a battery that would take 8 hours to charge over USB and it would make all USB power supplies that use 2 amp or less heat up, even though it's using the rated power.

I’am 14 and I am starting a retro game console collection. Do you think is smart to start collecting in 2020 And on which age did you start collecting?
I started at 30. I'm not sure what generations of consoles you are into, but 360, PS3, and Wii are dirt cheap right now. Everything else is expensive for the most part. You may want to stick to mini systems, clone consoles, or Raspberry Pi's.
What’s the longest male-to-male cable in your setup? (E.g. how long are the component cables daisychaining your switches together and connecting them to the tv?) thanks!

You need a rgb monitor setup. If you ever close to SLC utah. I will sell you a couple of Sony pvms, plus scart equipment for a good price.
So for sunlight it's the UV light right? Does regular incandescent lights and LED light cause the same affect?
Look for blue tread lock in automotive, the stuff works.
I would probably get lost looking but it would be cool to show off or enjoy.
Hey you should buy the Atari Flashback X! It's an atari 2600 mini so it's pretty cool.
I was just watching you a day or two ago. Noice
The first thought that came to my mind was "Where are the games?!"
Man, but what about air and humidity? How do you beeze? Where do you get fresh air from?
Which consoles are hooked up via composite and which are hooked up via S-Video? Thanks!
If I may request a full tour of your home network/internet/ISP setup please? You just did a quick shot of your network coming into the game room but you didn't go into any details at all other then that & I'm curious please? TIA I hope.
My recent tours are on my second channel, but I have no plans to cover the Internet stuff. It's just one LAN cable coming from the router downstairs.
Have you looked into the 16 port HDMI switcher (TESmart brand on Amazon)? It would simplify your setup & allow more connections also. Just a thought. Keep up the good work, your vids are a great way to relax.
I'll check it out. Hopefully it does 4K. If not, I could put all the non-4K systems on it.
You have convinced me!
And if u do get a 8k tv make sure u buy hdmi 2.1 switchers and cables
goo gone is the best adhesive remover afaik
28:30 you talk about a plug and play system for your RF consoles, but that's not an RF cable, it's like a component cable? Have I missed something?
They are interchangeable using little adapters.
Are u going to make a video about your hifi stereo and surround sound setup
Basically get a scart to component conversion tool
Excellent! What's your total playable system count up to now?
Monoprice used to make an 8-port HDMI switch, but it looks like you can’t get them anymore unfortunately.
Someone has pointed me in the direction of a 16 port one from TESmart. I'm looking into it.
I use similar wire shelves, but not as wide or as tall, nor do I support as many systems. I trunk the wires down the side of the rear poles. It was a bit of a hassle to do it, but looks sleek. Have you ever thought of getting UV carpet panels and a UV light?
No, I haven't thought of UV lighting. Seems like it might be too distracting.
I mostly just get whatever is cheap and easy to find. I have the room to PLAY the consoles. Looks are a secondary concern.
If u do get a Ethernet hub so the PS4 and Xbox one and next gen will be connected
Why did you Not Put top secret before LED Lights in The description?
Have you tried Jugee batteries, those are rated the same as a normal AA unlike the normal rechargeable, that and you can charge them with a USB cable. they won't report 1.2v because there's circuitry on them to make sure the voltage goes down linearly like a normal AA.
they tend to work better with devices that have cercuitery on them, and they last a lot longer.
since you asked for the link on the USB charger, I'm putting the link here
www.amazon.com/s?k=jugee+batteries&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
or if you want them cheaper you can get them off of ebay straight from china www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=jugee+AA+rechargable&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=jugee
Thanks, I had not heard of those types of batteries.
If you find more composite or svideo systems are u going to get a 8 in 1 composite and svideo switch
What does the "Run Crysis" button do?
Congratulations. What analog cables do you use? RGB Scart?
I know this video is old, but do those coax cable to RCA adaptors send both video and audio through a single RCA cable?
How do you split up ethernet between multiple systems?
I don't yet. It goes to the PS4. The rest of the systems I just use wifi.
Awesome vid man! But can you explain how your numbering system works? Is there some specific order you have them in?
@@HowToX Yes, that makes sense! Thanks for the reply
How much was the label maker? And the tale you get with them?
I dont think we have ever seen your GAME collection. I am very upset.
You can see a lot of it here: ruclips.net/video/3mGNa3JWGWQ/видео.html
I just bought a CRT TV from Craigslist because I have a NES, N64, and Dreamcast hooked up to an LED TV.
Any console designed to play on standard definition is best played on standard definition. I hate play old games on an HDTV, they look so horrible! It also looks weird to play old games on a flatscreen, assuming you were playing those games on a curved screen CRT back in the day.
@@getnorgetout9425 The crt I use is curved and was manufactured in 2000, it looks better then when I used an led tv.
Let me guess the dreamcast is connected via svideo because you don't have a vga monitor and that not all games can support 480p
Very informative video, but where do you put your games?
Epic.
I think it'd look much much better if the shelves were black instead of metallic silver.
I wonder why you don't get one of those USB charging stations for the minis, those usually have about 6 USBs on them . they're smaller and can be hidden away easier, and you can just use the switch on the rack mount that and you don't need a whole power strip for a few USBs
Can you post a link to one?
@@HowToX sorry i didn't post one, some youtube channels don't like links, so
www.amazon.com/Charger-RAVPower-Charging-Multiple-Compatible/dp/B00OQ19QYA/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3AZ5D45E4GKUT&dchild=1&keywords=usb%2Bcharger%2Bmulti%2Bport&qid=1602949490&sprefix=usb%2Bcharger%2Bmulti%2Caps%2C214&sr=8-4&th=1
It's good to overprovision USB power supplies, otherwise if they're being used for a long time, you could heat them up. I had a battery that would take 8 hours to charge over USB and it would make all USB power supplies that use 2 amp or less heat up, even though it's using the rated power.
Cool, I might get one, but I need to see if there is one that has more than six. I need closer to 10.
@@HowToX I found one with 10 of them amzn.com/B00OJ79UK6
Awesome!
Do you have your PS2, GameCube, OG Xbox and Wii set in 4:3 or 16:9?
What does run crysis label mean on the rack mounted surge protector
well what does it mean
You have found one of my hidden jokes. "Does it run Crysis" is a meme, and my button is meant as a funny tribute to it. Here's the details. knowyourmeme.com/memes/but-can-it-run-crysis
How much would something like this cost? All, games and set up
The closest I can give you is the value, which is different than how much I spent: ruclips.net/video/3mGNa3JWGWQ/видео.html
I’am 14 and I am starting a retro game console collection. Do you think is smart to start collecting in 2020
And on which age did you start collecting?
I started at 30. I'm not sure what generations of consoles you are into, but 360, PS3, and Wii are dirt cheap right now. Everything else is expensive for the most part. You may want to stick to mini systems, clone consoles, or Raspberry Pi's.
Can you show the consoles that use rf composite and svideo
That's too much work, but in general all the 1st and 2nd generation systems except for 2600.
What’s the longest male-to-male cable in your setup? (E.g. how long are the component cables daisychaining your switches together and connecting them to the tv?) thanks!
I don't know, but I make them as short as possible. The component segment that goes from the swapping area to the TV is only 1 or 2 feet long.
R u planning to get a crt with component input so you can get "rgb" video with consoles like the sega consoles snes ps1 neogeo and jaguar
No
