  • Here is all the info I can muster about my super clean & automated retro gaming console setup.
A lot of this info is very common for nerds who are already into this stuff, and probably way too advanced for your casual viewer... so I don't know who this is for :)
I am not a "youtuber" and don't have a camera or good lights so made due, sorry for the shot quality.
The builder of the physical rack:
    / kallokdf
Also I know it was a bit dramatic but I always told myself if I ever make a gameroom video I'd use my favorite videogame soundtrack.
    Rastan Saga
    by Zuntata
    TAITO Corp
    *UPDATE*
I made a little gaming TikTok! / consolecrapshoot
Also completely forgot to show one of the coolest parts. All of the lights in my living room are synced to the screen so they match whatever colors are happening on the screen. I'll include it if I ever do an update video.
Also I just ordered a Wii U... but the Neo Geo might elude me forever :(

I find it interesting that, being older than most video games myself, the people playing these "retro" games, weren't even born when most of these systems came out. Shows the power of this hobby. I hope video games last forever.

Dude that setup has been in my head for 3 years. Cant believe someone has put it into fruition. A bit saddened to see how expensive its going to be to make a shelving unit like that but great to see finally see what it would look like.
My plan is to have crt on the left and modern display on the right.

If you ever decide to with a second TV, CRT, video capture card, etc, you should consider getting an Extron Crosspoint matrix switcher. The gcompsw/gscartsw are great devices, but the matrix switching brings everything to the next level for sure. It would allow you to send any video or audio signal to any display device you have however you want. If you get one with network functionality like the Crosspoint 450 (which I have) you can even use a web based UI for switching much like you are doing now.
    Great setup!

    • @salmakesthings
      @salmakesthings  Месяц назад +2

It is generally good to not have them plugged in. I feel it is best to have them all on a large surge protector and have the surge on a nice battery backup UPS. Then you can just flip the surge protectors off.
However I kinda keep everything on most of the time unless I go away on vacation or something. I like everything to be one button automated. I've also soldered new capacitors into every system for this reason so they don't really take damage and I'll recap them again every 12-15 years or so.

It's called the GComp. You can get it many places. Stone Age Gamer for one.

I believe everyone wants to know the answer to this question... How much do you have invested in this setup? And expanding to another question, total cost for your entire retro collection?

Ha I have no idea. This has been slowly building for 40 years. But according to GamEye I'd say roughly 40k-ish

Could have used more footage of the setup. Like, a lot more. Almost barely saw it.

Really appreciate your focus on gaming and enjoying the experiences the different consoles provide, instead of hoarding. Err, sorry, collecting.

The German flag is black, red and yellow...
My wall is brown, orange and yellow.

Ha! No update but I do a weekly TikTok show called Console Crapshoot.
It's also on RUclips but I don't have any followers on that one.

Fully appreciate the effort but it's way too much for me. I went the opposite way, as least as possible. Mister for everything I want to play ps1 and below, a sega saturn with fenrir (will sell when the mister saturn core is 100%) PC emulation via crt emudriver for arcade games not on mister and n64. Dreamcast and gamecube upscaled emulation on my pc gaming monitor. I don't want to revisit ps2, xbox, ps3 or xbox 360.

The Mister is awesome. If I were to start now I'd just do that.

"Because I don't want my partner to leave me" Seriously? If someone leaves you over the way something looks in a room. That's pretty shallow......

Do you go through life thinking everyone making light jokey comments are being serious?? That must be very exhausting. Was kidding friend, take it easy.

why don't u put all the consoles with a figure 8 power in in the same row that way u can have one power cord and just move it same thing with av cables used for the same system ei SNES and gamecube. why have 10 power cables when u can have one figure 8 per row. not like u playing 3 systems at the same time. the cable does not even have to be permanent put it in a drawer when your done also helps with critters to not have systems plugged up all the time.

would you stop white knighting about not "pirating" decade old games by greedy as corporations that want to keep re selling a small select amount of games while the whole back catalogue is inaccessible due to licensing or dated copyrights or the game cart is over 200 dollars on ebay.

The joke clearly went over your head. I put that in there as a legal protection, claiming I would never do something that I clearly do.

Typical bandwagon-jumping hack. Pirating games, playing games in the wrong aspect ratio, and a fan of led shelf lighting. Lol.

    • @salmakesthings
      @salmakesthings  6 месяцев назад +1

I don't play games in the wrong aspect ratio. I had a youtube video playing in the background for ambiance and that was in widescreen.
Also I don't have any LED lighting.
You seem like a typical snob douchebag who needs to constantly tell other people how they should be enjoying their hobby. You do your setup in whatever way makes you happy.
