    I’ve been in Fuji space since the XE1 was new. Then the XT1, and finally now finally got the XT4 finally. Lol. My light weight prime lens set is the Laowa 9/2.8, Fuji 16/2.8, Fuji 35/2, and Laowa 65/2.8 APO 2x Macro. Fun to travel with a small sling bag full of tiny primes! But I also have the 56/1.2 and the 55-200, which are both also fantastic. I want to add the new 10-24 and 50/2 as a two lens combo for hiking. Also, I love my SmallRig wooden grip - the wood makes me happy - but I removed the L bracket portion. Recently, I got the Houge metal lens shade for the 35/2, and now that lovely lens also looks as awesome as it should on the XT4. For lightest walkabout, it’s the two lens 16/2.8 and 35/2 that get the most use. No bag at all. One lens on the body, and one in my pocket. I also highly recommend Fuji Raw Studio freeware. And finally, sometimes I’m nostalgic for my old film 6x6 medium format TLR Mamiya. So I’ll set up my Fuji to square format with a single prime lens and shoot in black and white. That’s a lot of fun. On my old XT1, I flip the screen out and shoot waist level looking down onto the LCD. So it really gets the framing similar to the TLR. Haven’t done this yet on the new XT4, so I will see if the flippy LCD detracts or not. But I think the XT4 will provide better film simulation settings for B&W nostalgia. Shooting square changes your framing composition, so that’s just a joy when you need a change. Anyway, I love your enthusiasm. Keep the videos coming, please.

    7:08 135mm (on Full Frame-35mm) = 90mm (on fuji XF)
    easy way to remember is remembering the 35mm. 35mm on fujifilm is 50mm on full frame meaning everything that has to be mounted with adapters will be devided by 1.5

    Hi Kristin! Nice to see you back. :)
    I haven’t traveled in a while, like most of us, but my last trip was a Fujifilm X-T30 with the V1 27mm/f2.8, the 50mm/f2, and the 18-55mm/f2.8-4. I was able to pack that body with all 3 lenses, spare batteries, and charger in a Pelican 12x10x5” box that fit INSIDE my carry-on. It worked out wonderfully. I just packed my little 8” Tenba DNA Messenger bag flat in my luggage and loaded in to it when I reached my destination. You could probably do the same with a X-S10 body and it would complement your X-T4.

    X100V is a good B-cam, especially with the new update, you can use the built in ND in video.
    i'm trying to sell my Canon M6 to get a second Fuji body since a) I want a more permanent setup of my special telepromter Fuji camera as a webcam setup; and b) i did some video freelancing work and with multicam interview and now know the importance of having 2 similar log files to colour match them afterwards.
    generally i go out with a Fuji 16mm 1.4 and a 56mm 1.2

    Just one thought: I'm not hating on Minolta, as a matter in fact I too do have some, but if bulk and weight are cumbersome, I'd recommend either Olympus OM or Carl Zeiss Jenna, both 135mm f3,5, both half the size and weight compared to your Minolta lens...

    I keep finding myself using the kitlens on travels, I just can't be bothered with switching lenses or fumbling around with primes. Sure it is not the sharpest of the bunch, but since I shoot around f7 / f8 anyway it is more then sharp enough. Thought about getting the 16-55 f.28, but I can't justify the marginal differense at that apperture. With the 10-24 it is the perfect mini traavel kit for my shooting needs

    You mentioned not having the right ND filters with you. Just curious if tried using the ND filter that's built into your X-100V on your trip or if that wasn't strong enough.

    • @kristin5116
      @kristin5116  3 года назад

      I only had the X-T4 with me on the trail and actually didn't have *any* ND filters with me. lol I'm not sure, but even with the ND filter turned on, on the X100V, it wouldn't be strong enough to capture slow shutter speed photography, since it was a really sunny day. 🤔 I did some digging online and it seems the x100v's ND filter only has 4 stops.

    When I take a travel kit similar to yours, I take the 16-55mm f/2.8 Fujinon instead of the 18-55.
    I also take an adapted 105mm f/2.8 Nikkor macro instead of a 135.
    For a third lens, I take a 12mm Zeiss f/2.8 instead of the Rokinon 12mm.

    I love the 18-55 just wish it was constant 2.8.
    About this lens- This sounds weird but hear me out; on my X-E4 with the 18-55 @ 55mm seems to be how I really “see” naturally with my eyes. I look through the evf with my right eye and open my left eye to look out at what i’m shooting. It looks almost 3D or continuous between my naked left eye and the lens @55mm. Just made me wonder- do other people have the same field of vision or do we all vary? (APSC: 55mm x 1.5 crop = 82.5mm would be my natural focal length)

    The XF56mm f/1.2 is a Wonderful lens but I would also consider the XF90mm f/2 for travel. Here's why;
    [I own both by the way].
    The 56mm is fantastic for portrait shots and anything in that 85mm field of view equivalent range but I have found personally that the 85mm FF field of view is a 'no-mans-land' focal length other than for portraits. But it does it brilliantly which is why I hang on to mine.
    The 90mm to me is a more versatile tele lens and one I use outdoors a Lot. That 135mm FoV equivalent is a focal length I have used some sort of 135mm lens for four decades now on all my systems from tele-landscapes, cityscapes, wildlife to even shooting sports with it. I think it's a hair sharper than the 56mm as well as it being my go to "head shot" lens which wide open can give similar bokeh to standard (head/torso) portrait shots taken with the 56mm.
    As far as a new B-camera, I think you are the perfect candidate for the X-S10 being your replacement for the Canon. Paired with your 18-55 will be a beast of a vlog set-up.
    Excellent choice on the Rokinon 12mm. I also own that one and use it on my hikes for wide landscapes and mostly astrophotography, you can get some awesome Milkyway photos with that lens.

    Last year I made a “travel kit” thats just my X100V, wide angle adapter, ND and BPM filter, spare batteries + charger, a compact Benro tripod, and I put it all in a Domke F5XB which I call my man purse 🤣. I’ve started to really like the 28mm focal length and the adapter is almost permanently on my x100 now.
    Oh and trying to sell cameras is the worst! You’re lucky if you get someone who’s legitimately interested and willing to pay a reasonable price. I’m trying to get rid of my Nikon DSLRs cuz I just ordered the new Z6 II but no one is buying them! Cant wait for Nikon to announce their compact prime 28mm and 40mm, those’ll be my first native Z mount lenses I get.

    The XT4 with 16-80mm with the 10-24mm for wide angle is a favorite, though admittedly the new 70-300mm (if I get it) would would probably live on the XT4 and get used 90% of the time. (still miss the old 35mm system 90-230mm zoom)
    For me the ideal travel kit would be Fuji XT4 with 70-300mm w/w/o 10-24mm, X100V + WCL-II, DJI Pocket-2, plus depending on size preference either the IR-converted Panasonic ZS40 (smaller) or IR-converted Canon S3 IS (larger) with Blue IR /NDVI and IR-Chrome filters.

And I just bought the 16mm 1.4 which has been going with me also. So those are the lenses that has been going with me lately. I do switch up from time to time. Haven’t been travelling for a while, but my wife does have a veggie garden with some animals (pigs, goats, chicken’s), which is super interesting to shoot with multiple focal lengths. Plus, the kids love to help out, so there’s always fun pictures to be taken. I mostly use a M42-screw Sigma 135mm f/2.8, a 7Artisan 35mm f/1.4 and the 18-55mm f/2.8-4. And I have a 70-210 with some macro capabilities, really helpful in the spring. I have used canon and nikon for street photography and after using a friends X-100F now will shift to Fujifilm like you. Will get XE-4 to begin with. But confused whether to get 28mm or 35 mm. You and your cat reminds me of book 'A Little Courage' by Taltal Levi. I have stopped taking pictures since many years. www.flickr.com/photos/tavruday/ But Fujifilm is what inspires to rebegin again. You have 18-55 and for me this will also get costly. With T-30 the cost gets reduced whereas XE-4 has 28mm as combination (wish they had 18-55 too). But I have used 50mm Nikon 1.8 a lot and love the bokeh. I have never heard of Rokinon 12mm f/2 and the price is less. Will be on list to get. You mention about MD Minolta Celtic 135mm f/3.5. Hmm... I love how you are for the process and joy of taking pictures and achieving certain character and not tact sharpness. Your X-100 V looks so leica like. 23 mm in this camera is so good.
    I love how you say, "This camera makes my heart sing" and that is why I am commenting. I really found this line so inspiring and made me think very deep for sometime and get out of the rut with clarity. And then you said that by doing landscape photography (and not just street photography), got to know your camera more and got to know yourself as photographer more and that aspect of "relationship" with self and camera is really liberating and challenging to play and break your own barriers. So I am really thankful to you. Is there a book on photography or any artistic endeavor which is your fav and inspires you in same way like you speak?
