    Great video. My kit is extremely similar to yours. Love the 16mm and the 50mm for their combination of size, WR and IQ. My kit also includes the 35mm f1.4 lens.

    Top video Roy loved the Eric Satie in the background , fantastic sample photos and now you've got me interested in the super takumar 135 mm I like the results anyway take care and can't wait for the next vid 👍

      Thanks for watching! The Takumar 135 is a great little lens. I picked up a used medium format GFX 50R and have been using it with that as well with surprisingly good results. It's a lot of bang for your buck. Oh and Eric Satie is always amazing. :)

    I'm saving up to finally upgrade from my X-T1 and will probably end up going X-T4. I love my Samyang 12mm F/2 as well but I'd like to have something with auto-focus close to that focal range. I have the XC 15-45 lens, which I use primarily for video, but I much prefer primes for photography. I'm still not sure between the XF14mm F/2.8 or the XF16mm F/2.8. The 14 being more than double the cost is a negative for just 2mm difference though, but it gets me closer to that Samyang wide angle. Real nice kit Roy!

    • @roycruzphoto
      @roycruzphoto  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! I've heard really good things about the 14mm f/2.8 and would like to try it at some point. But it's hard to beat the bang for buck you get from the 16mm f2.8. I think you'll really enjoy the T4 coming from a T1. Speed and responsiveness is on another level, especially with the newer lenses.

    Interesting kit, Roy! I wonder if you're missing the ability to use the 12mm wider field of view to achieve that extreme distortion effect up close for foreground objects. It's something I think "requires" 10-12mm (APS-C). I had the 16mm as my wider lens for a while in the past and definitely missed it.

    • @roycruzphoto
      @roycruzphoto  2 года назад +1

      I definitely miss it in some situations. But most of the time, the 16mm is wide enough. It also challenges me to approach the scene a bit differently from the 12mm, which is always a good exercise. Good thing it's super easy to swap out the 16mm with the 12mm when I know I'll need the extra width. Thanks for watching!

    • @roycruzphoto

      Thank you for watching and commenting! The XF 35mm f/2.0 is a great weather sealed lens that's not so expensive, especially if you go second hand. I really enjoyed it when I had it (since upgraded to the 33mm f/1.4).

    The Tamron 17-70 f/2.8 + XF55-200 covers very close to the same, add a Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 and your low light's covered too... ?

    Hi Roy, I just picked up the Rokinon 12mm, do you still feel the Cokin P series will work with that lens? I watched your video from 2016, and was wondering if your thoughts have changed since.

    • @roycruzphoto
      @roycruzphoto  3 года назад +1

      Hi Timothy. Yes, the P-series works great on the 12mm. I still have and love the 12mm and will definitely keep using it for landscapes with the Cokin kit.

  • @MarcioK
    @MarcioK 3 года назад +1

    Great video. :) I recently moved to Fuji, made a kit of lenses, and the only one that I have to decide is just the wide-angle prime.
    The first choice is the Rokinon 12mm f2 that you've mentioned - will use for landscapes and (specially) interiors when travelling. The other options are the 14mm F2/.8 and the 16mm f/2.8 that you have...
    Did you miss the wider angle of the Rokinon when using your kit in tight spaces? Or the 16mm already covered that well?
    Regards.

    • @roycruzphoto
      @roycruzphoto  3 года назад +1

      I definitely miss the 12mm in some situations, but the 16mm is wide enough most of the time. The size, weather sealing, and ability to autofocus also help me to quickly forget the wideness I'm missing. :) Good thing is I still have the 12mm available if I really need it. I'd also love to try the 14mm at some point as I've heard great things about it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    The PK (pentax-m) version of that 135 lens has a small built in lens hood (saving a bit more space in the bag). It's about the same size as the takumar version. As you say - great options for a compact (tiny) telephoto 👌👍

    Hi, Roy! I just found your video and I have a question for you. What is your favorite middle range zoom lens? 16-55mm is not an option for me -- too heavy. Thanks.

    • @roycruzphoto
      @roycruzphoto  Год назад

      Hi Svetlana. Thanks for watching! My favorite middle range zoom is actually the 16-55, which I use quite a bit. But a couple of my friends really like the XF 18-55 kit lens and have recommended it to me as a lighter option.

    Hi Roy. How sharp is this pentax 135mm lens? I have 55-200mm fuji lens but I discovered that it could be sharper, and I want to shake things up. I have on my whishlist other lenses such as 60mm macro, so wonder If I could sell 55-200mm lens and get 135mm pentax for occasional long lens landscape shots.

    • @roycruzphoto
      @roycruzphoto  2 года назад +1

      The Pentax 135mm is definitely sharp enough for occasional telephoto landscapes, which is primarily what I use it for as well. However, I don't know if I would sell the 55-200 and replace it with that. Based on my limited experience with the 55-200, I'd say sharpness is on par with the Pentax 135mm. Plus the modern zoom will offer many advantages over the older Pentax. However, the size, weight, and build of the Pentax are also worth a look. And you may be able to find it cheap enough to just take the plunge and own both. Thanks for dropping by!

    You could replace this entire kit with the Fuji 16-80, it's an excellent adventure lens... decent IQ, F/4 aperture, excellent 6 stop IBIS and weather sealed.
