Roller-vlogging? Yes please! Love that minimalist X-E4 design, I didn’t even know it had a flip-up screen. Can’t wait to see more run & gun stuff from you!
Hello, i know people tell you this all the time but your videos are such a joy to watch, the effort of doing them is absolutely appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Samuel!! Excuse me while I fan-girl a bit ... I love your channel! 😆 And I saw that you were also using the 15-45mm in your quarantine vlog. It really is a great lens/body pairing! 👌
Thanks for this, great video, I have the xe4 I use with the grip as it balances out some of my larger lenses, like Zeiss Touit 32. I love the size of this camera and the ability to change lenses. I also like to experiment with different film recipes, just love fuji.
The X-E4 is my first Fujifilm camera, I've had it for several weeks now and I absolutely love it. I agree with you about the minimalist design, it's great, and I don't have any issues at all with the lack of buttons, changes to settings can be easily and quickly achieved. Tbh I think you made the right decision on the lens, the AF on the 27mm is a bit loud and hunts more than I would like. Fantastic video Kristin, Thanks.
Welcome to Fujiland! And glad to hear you're enjoying the X-E4. IMO, When you learn this camera like the back of your hand and decide to get another Fuji down the road, all those extra bells and whistle buttons will seem like a nifty convenience rather than essential. 😉 Good to know about the 27mm!
Smallrig do an L-bracket for the x-e4, which gives you a grip and a side mounted cold shoe for a microphone etc. The side axis slides out for cable access etc. I have one of their L-brackets for the X-T3 and the slide out is useful as an ad hoc wider second grip for stability too. Could be worth checking out.
Thank you for the review. I am new to the Fuji system but as my recent vlog camera crapped on me and I wasn’t sold in the Sony ZV1, I’m interested in this little guy (despite the ibis). I think I’ll definitely be picking this up along with that lens. I use the Sony A7III as my main cam for portrait work but it’s too much to carry around with me day in and out when I sometimes wish I had more than just my phone.
Glad you enjoyed/found it helpful, Naty! 😄 Yeah, I love the size of the Z-V1 and what it's capable of, but the user experience doesn't gel like the X-E4. (personally speaking) If you decide to get the fuji, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Great video! I would love to see more video footage in the future with the Xe4! I hope to get one soon. Selling my Sony a6400. It was my first camera and while I do love it, it is still a bit bigger than what I want to carry around when I’m out and about. So hope to get your setup with the 15-45. There is a tripod with a side Mount for the mic, so that will make life easier. I have the rode video micro mic and it’s that puffy ball one, so I plan to stick that on the side lol. Anyway, can’t wait to see more videos!
A nice review that Kristin. I'm stepping into the Fuji ecosystem for the first time (If the Instax does not count) and was contemplating picking up the E4, but the S10 was a more compelling choice due to IBIS and the superb grip. However, I really like the form factor of the E4 and will probably pick one sometime in the future.
OMGGG I want the XE4 as my future B camera tooooo!!! Congrats on the skillshare sponsor!!! Rly wish the XE4 had IBIS though... O NOOOO! The hotshoe location! I think there are accessories where they split the hot shoe mount into two separate hot shoes on each side! Idk if that made sense😅Anyways, awesome video as always Kristin! 😁
Great content!!!! I’ve been debating on what to replace my outdated Samsung NX mini with... Fuji strikes again! When I’m ready to buy, I’ll be clicking on your links! :) Thanks for the intel!!!!
Great video (as usual, from you), but re. IBIS: from an engineering standpoint, you have small/ compact, inexpensive and robust/sturdy. Pick two. Remember, you have to suspend the sensor, hook it up to actuators for 3 axes, have motion sensors, and then the electronic brain to handle it all. This stuff all has to live somewhere. IMHO, that's the main reason Fuji took so long to move ibis from x-h1 to the x-t4 in the first place. I'm sorry if I come off somewhat mansplainingly (don't know if that's a word), but in my daytime job I get to figure a bit with the real world applications of technical engineering stuff.) Also, the hot shoe mount makes sense to place above the camera axis, right smack dab down the middle. That's where the on camera flash goes, or you light everybody from off center, wether you'd want to or not. But if you really need to, there is some third party brackets to go into tripod thread underneath, like a small chese plate with a cold shoe mount on it).
@2:41, that's the cable the relays the information the camera sensor sees to the LCD screen on the back (so please do not damage that or you won't be able to the LCD screen anymore)
For about $14 (US) you can purchase a "FlipBac G4" stick on grip for the front of the X-E4 on Amazon, which fits PERFECTLY without substantially adding bulk or weight to the camera. Both of my X-E4s have this grip and it is a game changer for the ergonomics when hand holding along with a good thumb rest of course IF you are not using the hot shoe for a mic or light....the Lensmate LM-XE3 thumb rest fits as does the Haoge thumb rest made for the X-E3/X100V IF you don't want to wait on the back ordered Fuji version or as yet forthcoming LM-XE4 from Lensmate. Speaking as a stills photographer (only...I don't have the attention span for video) I'm not at all bothered by the ability of the LCD to do 'selfie' mode. I was worried about the fragility of the 'ribbon' that powers the LCD, but simply reinforced it a bit with some black electrical tape and I'm much less worried. This is exactly the camera I've been waiting for Fuji to make since I held my first X-E2 and thought, "This would be the IDEAL camera if it had the LCD from my X-T1!" I'm in camera Nirvana at the moment...(Sold my X100V for a second X-E4 ... traded my X-PRO3 for an X-T30 for 'work' ... and kept both of my X-T1 bodies which are battle scarred, have very little resale value and are excellent for stuff I don't want to risk a newer camera to shoot.)
Great video! I love the minimalist/compact design. A really great travel, everyday or B camera! SmallRig has cage options that move the mic to the side.
@@kristin5116 SmallRig also makes an L-bracket (with grip) with integrated cold shoe for X-E4 -- still probably more bulk that you want, but it's nice to have options. Just found that Smallrig also makes cold shoe relocation adapters (which sounds perfect for you), but not for X-E4 (yet). 😢 Maybe you should urge SmallRig for this to be made via next video? 😄
I have, unfortunately, not found any generic "cold shoe relocation adapters" or "cold shoe extensions" that I would put on my own equipment. Many are for smaller cameras and phones. Some go on the bottom and I would be afraid of the camera twisting loose from the tripod with a bigger camera. If I had a 3D printer, I bet this would be easy-ish to make.
Quite an enjoyable video to watch. I really liked the professional review. 😂 People complained about no OVF/EVF combo on the X-E4? Strange. The X-E series has always been only EVF. I enjoyed using Fuji for five years until they started to make too many changes to the UI along with other things. I'm glad to see you and other people are enjoying Fuji. :) Funny thing for me is that my favorite camera for photography at this time is the Sony A7Siii. 😃
If you wanna use your shotgun microphone w/ the XE-4, Ulanzi sells a ballhead w/ a cold shoe attached on the side of it. Hook it to the head of the tripod, out of the way & job done!
amzn.to/3uK6yFA 🤯 I should have used "ballhead" in my cold shoe mount search 🤦🏻♀️ 😂 I still love the tiny Rode system, but nice to know it's an option, now. Thanks!
Your x100v could get more versatile in terms of focal length with the attachable adapters, which give you a wider or more telephoto view. I've also been told that the adapters for the x70 work on the x100, which gives you even more versatility...
Kristin I just love your new channel. I've been a fan of yours through the knitting world and really look forward to taking this journey with you...lol--you are seriously making me contemplate getting rid of my 2 month old Canon R6 and replacing it with the Fuji X-T4. Lol. When I figure out where to sell it I will use your link. PS. I know this might be a silly question... but what do you have on the strap?
Thanks so much, Margaret!! Excited to have you along for the ride 😆 As for the strap I use one by Peak design, which use dongles that quick-release when I don't need it. 😊 ... unless you're referring to the square RODE wireless mic transmitter?
@@kristin5116 Thanks Kristin--yes I was wondering about those Peak design dongles and that must be so handy...And I checked out your photography instagram and am blown away. Super talented in all the things Kristin. Can't wait for your next photography video!
Don´t wanna be the wise-ass, but the default position of a hot shoe for a flash is always on top of the center of the lens. The xe4 is still a camera for photography. But I´m pretty sure there are cages and handles with practical mounting options for microphones out there.
I very quickly stopped using the dead cat on my Rode video mic - It's a real pain to get on, only for it to fall off almost immediately. Canon shooter here. I tried the budget XT100 a couple of years back and quickly sold it because of the massively hissy pre amps in video mode. I miss the Fuji film simulations SOOOO much though :( Please tell me that the higher end Fuji's pre amps don't sound like a pit full of angry vipers? The colour and tone on your video looks beautiful, I'm guessing Eterna? My test XT100 didn't have that. Oh fab video by the way.
There are 3 things that I would have liked to have seen in the X-E4 - 1. IBIS, 2. Duel Card Slots, 3. Weather sealing. I could live without No1 but the other two are a must for me.
I hear that! I for sure would have loved IBIS and Weather Sealing. But since I'm only relying on this camera for pick-up shots, and vlogging, and already have dual slots on my main camera (the X-T4) I'm ok with only one slot. Again, it comes down to what your shooting needs are. 😄
Does the autofocus have a mode like Product Showcase Mode on the Sony ZV-1 where it’ll pull focus on an object without having to block your face with a hand? I’m thinking about getting one or the other. Thanks! Great suggestion for a lens, BTW. Now I’ll probably pick the 15-45mm over the 18-55mm since it’s wider and more compact.
It does not have a product showcase mode, but the AF is pretty snappy, regardless. I have the Z-V1 and while I can appreciate that feature but it's something I'm willing to sacrifice when it comes to the Fuji experience / image quality. Then again, if you do happen to frequently hold objects up to the camera, then maybe it will make your life easier? I hope that helps. 😄
@@kristin5116 Thanks for the thoughts! The experience and image quality is definitely why I'm considering the X-E4. Maybe I can work around it with B-roll closeups...🤔
Hello Kristin, why not have considered the x-s10 rather than the x-e4 as vlogging set up? I have the feeling that the x-s10 is not very popular with the Fuji community, yet it offers a lot more than the e-x4. (IBIS, flip screen, better grip, very good kit lens...) Do you think Fuji may have lost the Fuji purists with this mainstream approach? (PASM wheel, dlsr retro design). I really love the design of the e-x4, but my reason tells me that the x-s10 would be a better choice (although I don't like the idea of losing the fuji ergonomics) :/
I used canon and nikon till now. Then used friend's fuji camera and know that fuji is what my love is as you also found. So I will enter with XE-4. Since this will be my first camera, I will not go with the kit lens. Wish they had 18-55 option too as package to reduce the cost. Just wish X-E 4 had rear dial. Front side is neat and clean (which is their purpose) but the external grip is poor design to me. Very abrupt cut on top. Geometric block. No organic flow with main body. You seem to be using the mini tripod which you mentioned in your April 3 video. Good question, if fuji created camera with vlogging in mind, why not ibis. They wanted to keep size small and very light weight and perhaps would have not been possible. Then another good question is why kit lens 28 mm only to market? They could have option of 18-55 too as kit lens or 15-45 kit lens (which you got and looks so good with this camera. I had not seen any one still using this lens with this camera. So thanks for showing us how it looks) and show how versatile the camera is even for beginner and for one who wants to try fuji. X100 V is already there to cover 23mm. So why market as another 100 V but not show camera as more?
I love all the long time Fuji fan kids out there who are bemoaning the loss of this or that and who "really wanted to love" the X-E4 but can't. hahaha. It's a phenomal camera and definitely not one I'd recommend for beginners. Great video! I'm jealous that mine hasn't arrived yet. Soon, my precious.
Yay! Welcome to club X-E4, you're going to love it 🤗 Agreed - can't let the simple-look of it fool you. I can see it being a great gateway into Fuji, but it's still a powerhouse of a camera. I hope yours arrives soon!
Please don't take this the wrong way but can I fly out there and remove the protective film from your Rode Wireless Go receiver? BTW googly-eyes make a surprising amount of noise😂
At 2:39 you're showing the thin "film-like" structure that connects the body of your camera to your screen. That thing OUTPUTS the display from the camera body to the flip-screen. Be VERY careful with it! I'm not sure why Fuji resorted to that style of display connection. The Sony a6100/a6400/a6600 have a flip screen and the connector isn't exposed like that, so it's possible to keep that connector hidden. It's possible that Fuji resorted to the exposed connector design because they wanted a very THIN flip-screen and body.
Surprised you didn't pick the X-S10 instead. Especially where it has IBIS, and you had no interest in the 27mm which comes in the kit with a very attractive price. The X-S10 is also a fairly minimalist design as well. Not complaining or criticizing just wondering about the choice you made. To each his own.
I preferred the minimalist build of the X-E4 compared to the X-S10 and knew I could always compensate no IBIS with an OIS lens. Also, the 27mm didn't appeal to me as a vlogging lens. It seemed too tight of a focal length. Where the 15-45mm is perfect wide and tight range for run and gun vlogging while still being light/compact. I also really liked the flip-up screen option compared to the flip-out. Hope that better explains it :)
@@testertes6359 The X100V is useless to you *IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE LENSES* Therefore there is absolutely no point looking at the X100V. How can you not grasp something so simple???
I have Fuji XE4 with 27mm 2.8. It's tight frame and video quality is awful. Too shaky. I shifted from Nikon D5500. Cant say I am enjoying Fuji so far. Seems like the wrost decision I have taken in photography.
This is clearly an amateur camera. Fine, a one for vloggers too. But see, I'm an reporter. So my life depends on the fact that the camera I'm using has enough external controls. This one does not. And touch screen? Try to use it in a blizzard at -20C, good luck with that. But for me, the dealbreaker is the absence of WR. Course I always end up in the snow, rain or sandstorm somehow...
@@fredbloggs545 Thanks, Fred. Agreed! It all comes down to the photographer and what you're able to do with any given camera. (case in point: Check out Jessica Kobeissi's Toy Camera Challenges 😂 ruclips.net/video/XHP5ifjEXLY/видео.html ) Though, with the same processor/censor as the X-T4, I'd say the X-E4 is one very capable camera.
@@fredbloggs545 Me clueless? Yes somebody certainly can make money with this camera, anybody who thinks differently is a fool, but for the lack of better term I'm using "amateur". Traditionally, rugged cameras with weather sealing are referred as "professional". We need some sort of term to differentiate different camera types. And if you have a better term to differentiate those two, please enlighten me...
@@tomislavmiletic_ There is literally no such thing as an amateur camera. It does not suit you, but you do not speak for those who make money from cameras. Cameras are are not "pro" or "amateur" they simply have different feature sets. There is no need for the term at all. Simply put, if a person is making money from a camera, they are a pro and their kit is irrelevant.
not sure if you are aware but hot shoe is not only for mic, it is mainly for flash so its place is on top of the camera, just saying.

Can you do XE4 vs X100V?
Hah! Yeah, totally forgot to remove that protective film. 🤦🏻♀️ Rest assured, it's removed, now 👀
strap eyelet I mean
Thanks for this video. I guess, you already know: „Lehrer“ is german for teacher…

So, you sold Sony and Canon snd bought at least 3 Fuji? God bless ya.
FUJIFILM X-E4 VS x100v ?
You can change lenses on one but not the other. So it's an easy and obvious decision to make.
@@fredbloggs545 lol, Like thats the only Difference
@@testertes6359
All of the features of the X100V are irrelevant if you want to change lenses.
It's not rocket science.
@@fredbloggs545 so what? There are still a lot of other differences between the cameras.
@@testertes6359
The X100V is useless to you *IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE LENSES*
Therefore there is absolutely no point looking at the X100V.
Cute girl
This is clearly an amateur camera. Fine, a one for vloggers too.
But see, I'm an reporter. So my life depends on the fact that the camera I'm using has enough external controls. This one does not. And touch screen? Try to use it in a blizzard at -20C, good luck with that.
But for me, the dealbreaker is the absence of WR. Course I always end up in the snow, rain or sandstorm somehow...
I hear that, Tomislav! It's not a camera for everyone. 🤷🏻♀️
"This is clearly an amateur camera"
There is no such thing. If you are suggesting that somebody can't make money from a camera then you are cluless.
@@fredbloggs545 Thanks, Fred. Agreed!
It all comes down to the photographer and what you're able to do with any given camera. (case in point: Check out Jessica Kobeissi's Toy Camera Challenges 😂 ruclips.net/video/XHP5ifjEXLY/видео.html )
Though, with the same processor/censor as the X-T4, I'd say the X-E4 is one very capable camera.
@@tomislavmiletic_
There is literally no such thing as an amateur camera. It does not suit you, but you do not speak for those who make money from cameras.
Cameras are are not "pro" or "amateur" they simply have different feature sets. There is no need for the term at all. Simply put, if a person is making money from a camera, they are a pro and their kit is irrelevant.
too much money to thro away....
