- Urban Fishing always looks incredible, but what is it really like? Join me as I journey through London's varying waters, searching for Perch, Pike.. or anything that will take my bait really!
Big thanks to @LondonCatchAndRelease for showing me around, and to @SnaggedBro for letting me pinch some of their footage - they're both the real deal when it comes to city fishing.

Mate, your ability to make videos that keep me engaged while not seeing you catch anything is beyond impressive. Stay positive, it will happen. Nerdy note, love the heavy mist filter with all the lights blooming at night, your videos are meticulously assembled and executed. Cheers and looking forward to the next one!
Cheers Paul 😁😁 and haha, I’d love to take credit for using a mist filter but it was actually just a very fogged up front element! But yes, let’s say it was intentional 👀😂
@@tomwilshaw 😂 well I got fooled, now if you could fool the fish to bite too, that would be nice! Cheers 🍻
Stunning movie mate. You really worked here. Subscribed.
I read your message and now don’t want to watch the vid 🤦♂️ I will, I’ve started so I shall finish.
На Москва-реке также бывает)) по нулям
Really smashed this video Tom, was pleasure meeting you and show you around, looking forward some sea bass session in brighton 🎣
Mate it’s all thanks to you there even is a video!! Loved spending time with you, definitely looking forward to the next time 😁
I don't know anything about videography but these vidoes are so well produced, edited and mastered.
Thank you :-) I’m glad the hard work is worth it!
The camera shots, the music, the editing, well done for giving a new perspective to the fishing videos, I'm subscribing.
Thank you so much :) I’m glad it was enjoyed!
Great watch mate! Those London canals are top difficulty level! 👊👊
No doubles though
I feel like a london canals challenge is in order... Can't be THAT hard can it? hahaha
@@fishwithcarl come down to Exeter and fish with me pal you won’t see a fish let alone catch one
You've really sold that to me mate@@Aaron-pu9gg sounds awesome! hahaa
@@fishwithcarl If you though brum was tough... London is next level.
Wet your braid. Either dip the whole reel in the water if you don't mind submerging it, or carry some water that you can pour over the line until it is completely soaked. Stops the wind knots. I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs. Cool video.
If you cant easily net the fish don't cast 😮,,
That’s what I realised :) I did from then on
Life’s about learning
London is too noisy and polluted. If you do catch anything is cuz of blind luck.
non alcoholic cider? isn't that Apple juice?
😂😂 there is a difference! Honestly!
Imagine being in uk and have to explain in broken English to describe what you are doing to the "locals"
I’m always happy to talk about fishing, broken English or not!
You need soy based vegan lures - it's a London thing 😂
😂😂 if they’re gluten free I’m well up for them!
Unlucky on not catching, but what an adventure, your video production is top quality!
"Just popping to London to catch a perch" definitely became a bit of an obsession over those days...
Done with urban fishing can’t chill constant people ooo you take the fish ooo this ooo that.
Just found you by chance as I sat down to eat my dinner after coming home from fishing, subscribed straight away.
Gonna have a look at any other uploads on the channel now mate.
Take care brother. 🙏👍
Thanks man!! Really appreciate that, all the best to you too mate :)
That cucumber in the boat yard has a story. 😅😅😅😅😅
👀
What a dump!!!! Look for cleaner water mate. I hope you washed your hands before you ate some pizza
Soap was thoroughly applied!
Non alcoholic cider is called apple juice mate.. apple juice 😐
Hahaha I SWEAR there is a difference! But perhaps I should have just asked for some apple juice… you’re right..
Try using bait and a float maybe .....
Your comment about moving away from the city then the anxiety when visiting really resinated.
I think finding peace in the outdoors is definitely important, I still love it, but what I didn’t realise up until recently is that it’s also important to gently push yourself in situations you feel uncomfortable within. Not easy!! But vital to enjoy life without anxiety building up.
В Англии удивительный зеленый цвет у рек
У нас в России не так
What’s it like in Russia? :)
That's fishing for us! But you gave it all man! 💪
It is indeed! I'll be back to have my revenge 😜
Bro, this is like the Top Gear of fishing! Subbed!
Haha, thanks Tim!!! Really appreciate that :)
Switched from course to sea fishing when I moved to Brighton. Lure fishing for sea bass is epic.
I definitely need to spend some time doing just that!!
You make very good videos for your followers you deserve much more
It'll come in time. Production is mint. He is pretty decent and down to earth. We are just eatky birds is all!
Thanks for kind words :-) I hope more and more people want to watch and enjoy my stuff, but I’m perfectly content already! Reading comments like this really do make it all worthwhile
I used the crank today at rhodes in the rain it did the damage couple bream biggest was 45cm and a heap of Taylor I must buy some more different colours love your videos im in kfnsw cheers.
Absolutely prize content mate, when i make fishing videos im obsessive about showing a result every minute or so! To retain your viewers attention while blanking is an art form!
My fishing/filming in mostly in suburbia but its a different game!
Well done, subbed 👍👍
Haha, I appreciate it! Believe it or not, my intention is to catch.. on this occasion that just didn’t happen so easily.
There’s a reason this video has over 200,000 views! 👏🏻
Cheers Martyn!!!!! I'm slightly blown away to be honest!
@@tomwilshaw 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Absolute treat for the eyes! Clearly an adventure had too, sometimes it's nice to catch a fish, but sometimes it just doesn't matter! 😊
‘A quick trip to London to catch a perch’ definitely escalated to a full blown adventure 😂 I would have loved to catch, but I’m grateful for all stuff I experienced regardless!
I actually gasped when I saw your latest video pop up. I just waited for the right moment to sit and indulge in the adventure, so this morning with a coffee was the one. Thank you. Great start to a Wednesday!
That's so damn lovely to read, I really appreciate you saying that man - Thank YOU for watching!!
Nice video Tom , being as I was born in London many moons ago and learned how to fish on the canal systems I can’t believe how much of it has changed. 🐟🎣🎥👍
To produce and film while in such a hectic environment must have been a challenge all on It's own but you did it perfectly! The 3D camera shots were pretty cool... As for the fishing; that just looked like so much fun but incredibly difficult. Keep up the great work! Also... A random observation was to hear you're 'gluten free' so I presume Coeliac? My Mum has the same. It was good to see that you still managed to find tasty food!
The Insta360 cam definitely helped me out with the lure fishing sections, so cool to just know I'm recording everything and choose the shots later! Yep, I do have Coeliacs, it's a pain but thankfully a lot of places have menu's for folks like me now, makes things a lot easier!! Thanks for the kind words man :)
mate, what an amazing video ... even without many fish. cheers man from Italy ;) ...
Thank you 😁
Great video even if you didn’t catch it’s going that counts and out of your comfort zone also , power to you 👊🏻
Thanks mate :) I really appreciate that
Great video! Hope you keep in touch with Matt! 😊
My daughter used to live in Rotherhithe, so I kind of recognised some of your fishing spots!
Anyway, back to reality again - Burton-on-Trent 😂
Thanks Nigel 😁 I definitely will, we’ve got some more adventures lined up for the rest of the year! Haha, plenty of fish there 😉
Lots of roach small perch. But there are huge Pike and bream. But you want the deeper lock pools turnaround stuff. Also cyclists on the canals are asss holes. And endless people saying “ caught anything. “ really you want the more industrial Canals areas. Like Kilburn. East London. The THAMES is totally full of big silver - bronze bream all the Carps. But it’s tidal so you might have 3:30am full tide etc. plus. The High - low tide can be 18 ft difference so constantly changing float heights .. Thames is very clean nowadays. Not like 1960 with oily rainbow surface
Your fishing trip went the same way most of my one goes. Love fishing, been doing some see fishing over the past few years in a small rib so much fun.
I’d love to do a spot of that at some point!
Fantastic vdo shot. Love it. If you have a chance come to fish in Thailand. I will bring you around.
I’d love to do that one day!!!!!! Generously!
snapped the rod tip, repaired it, snapped it again, bought a new rod and immediately fished it with an overweight lure. lol
Standard 😅
Coba mancing di indonesia
Maybe one day!
Dude, yr video editing is damn good. Never mind of getting less fish, but yr editing and engagement is superb. You have earned one subscriber. Waiting for more of yr videos
Thanks for the kind words 😁 shooting my next one this weekend!
Sorry the way iam angler, but here! Casting or jigging with lure not recommended thoug, live bait(shrimp, small fish, mosh, worm and bread) it's usefull for midle size to big size maybe monster especially small"healing not fishing"
i am from america didn't rly think bout how would some one from britian would fish didn't even know yall had pikes and perches down there as well? any bass fishing in uk?
Loved fishing the London canals and the River Lee by Hackney marshes as a kid, live in Oxford now and the fishing is still great. Thanks Tom, great content.
Oxford is somewhere I’d love to spend a lot of time :) some beautiful waters. Thank you!
Nothing but eating in this video
😂😂
You work is amazing ! Just i love it ! 🤯🤯🏆🏆
Thank you :D
your channel deserved 100k + subcriber 🎉
Maybe one day! Thank you for the kind words 😁
Nice video mate. I don’t fish but I enjoyed the video. Credit where it is due nice footage and editing. Keep up the good work.
Urban fishing in London looks fun, from an American perspective, it'll be nice to catch a pike in these urban waters lol
It’s definitely a challenge 😅
not even a cold? ) gl
Oh I definitely caught a cold!
Maybe it's worth considering fishing in Gdańsk? During winter you can catch beautiful perch 40+. AlltheBest Buddy
I’d love that! One day!!!!!
No fish in London harbour try Fulham bowl. Old Chelsea flower mill. Area
Just noticed that's a Polar Skate beanie haha sick. I've been trying to fish in London since I've lived here, but man is it intimidating! Good stuff man!
Haha yeah man! Had that beanie for yeaaaars, still going strong, cheers!
I live in london and it is the only place I fish 😂. I don’t really like lure fishing but I corse fish on rivers such as the wandle. I would love to take you up to the river wandle (high chance of catching lots of species like barble and chub) 😁
That would be epic, come the river season I might have to take you up on that!!
First time checking out your content. Chicago has amazing fishing a lot of time that is urban af! Cheers from across the big ass’d pond.
Hahaha it truly is one MASSIVE pond between us 😂 I’d absolutely love to visit the states, maybe one day!!!
Really love the vibe here, you get a subscribe from me, just one question. The image on your camera is just crystal clear, what camera body and lens do you use? thanks mate, keep up the awesome content, live in Belgium myself, always welcome to crack up that perch record in the Netherlands ;)
Cheers Rob! Haha, I was filming for my friend Carl when he caught a 6lb 54cm perch… blew my mind. One day maybe!
Camera is a Canon R, with a 24-105mm lens :)
Awesome lad, cheers! :)@@tomwilshaw
I've never been fishing, but your videos are really engaging and I can't stop watching! Subscribed. Thanks! Dan
Cheers Dan! That's a huge compliment, definitely give fishing a go if you ever get the chance!
Should have used a spinner mate. You're guaranteed to catch one. Great video!
Nice to see the 360 camera in use😎
Always! 😁
Good video but not a good angler😄 you need to try tiny soft bro! You cant hope canal fish with using 234 ınc hard bait 😂
Haha no arguments here! Although, I had hoped the worm would tick that box.. Once I realised that wasn’t happening, I went all in on trying to catch a pike.
Lots of fish in St. Katherine's Dock and big pike get down there 👍🏻
I was a security officer for Canary Wharf Management. Unfortunately no fishing is allowed on their property. However across the bridges away form the tall buildings, they don't own the land.
I use to fish on south quay and caught my 1st and only fresh water fish haha. It was a small ish pike. As for blanking, I've blanked there about 5 or 6 times. It's deep!
People catch all sorts from zander, perch and pike.
I live in Southend now so in the summer I try for sea bass. It's not really the best place to fish but it's local. Many blanks which is disappointing, but the beauty of fishing are the days I do catch.
Got to be in it to win it!
I'll have to give the South Quay a look! and you know it, it's called fishing not catching haha!
Really nice video. Thanks for that. Just as a side note, please avoid fishing in depths of 10 or more metres (ideally not more than 8) for perch and zander, especially if you don't want to eat them. Reason is that they struggle with Barotrauma and depending on the depth frequently die. There has been a study in the US a few years back about walleye and perch and their mortality rate depending on the depth they were caught in. I cannot seem to find it anymore, unfortunately. Iirc you have a mortality rate of about 10% at 10 metres already and it exponentially rises to 100% dead at 18 metres. It was also addressed in German fishing magazine "der Raubfisch" about 10 years back in an article "wie tief ist fair" (how deep is fair)? by Birger Domeyer. It is talked about the ethics of fishing deep for perch and Zander.
I am posting that because a lot of people don't know that and damage fish stocks without knowing
Thats super fascinating and important to know, I’ll do some research for sure :) fish care is important to me.
Actually insane how you only have 9.3k subs
The lock is probably full of stuff like foods good video all very very Good ❤😊
thats londons toxic water for you.... (N)
Great video! It's not always about to catch fish! Sometimes it's like a therapy or to spend time outside. If you wanna try a new street fishing place and experience a new country, come to Hamburg. One of the greatest street fishing places. Greetings from Hamburg Germany :D
Fishing is an activity that I love, catching fish… well, that’s a whole different sport 😂 I’d love to one day!
Im Watching this form beginning to end.. even if you don't catch 1 fish and broke your rod tip .. still its a awesome video to watch bro.. urban fishing is challenging in that spot.. try to use crankbaits next time bro..keep on posting.. tightlines bro.. new subscriber here... FisH on
Thanks man :) I’ll keep them coming, and hopefully become a better angler in the process haha!
Really great content, brilliantly edited. No hesitation subscribe
Fantastic film! I share your pain when it comes to catching for the camera. Often taken for granted but rarely guaranteed. However, when the footage (and editing and everything else) is this slick, you don’t always need fish to make an entertaining and inspiring watch. Tight lines, John
Cheers John :) Of course catching is what I do all of this for, but I do try to construct my videos in a way that hopefully they give value in other ways too... Filming and fishing, you can't do both well!!
I have fished in the canals near Camden and central London for 2 years. Trust me, try to go around the summer and they are the most active in September/the beginning of October is full of hungry fish!
If you want I can take you around and guarantee 100% of a big pearch in the time I told you!
I definitely picked the wrong time of year… I’ll try again once the season opens back up :)
Well... my son lives on the Regents Canal, south of the Islington Tunnel. There's a ton of fry, lots of big eels, pike up to 3' or so (which eat baby waterfowl) and perch on his mooring. I watch them every time I visit. You really need a ghillie to show you the where and the how...
I certainly have a lot to learn :)
Obviously goes without saying but if anyone else wants to try this, you must make sure that you have a fishing rod licence to fish for freshwater species, though you can catch saltwater species all the way up to Teddington on the Thames as its tidal (which you don't need a licence for). Great video by the way.
Absolutely :) always check permissions of local waters too! It’s tricky, a lot of the information is hard to find, but worth investigating.
About 50 pounds for a taxi 100 pounds on equipment and another 200 pounds for a hotel . Just get a plane ticket to Greece.. blue waters , isolation that's the whole point of fishing in my opinion 😅
That sounds dreamy! I definitely love finding quiet places to fish, but it was for sure worth trying something different in the city :) A lot of folks can only fish what’s on their doorstep, so it’s cool to know even in the middle of London there’s stretches of water. Certainly not easy though!
So much people around while fishing made me anxious 😂 I need to be totally alone when I’m fishing lol. But it was interesting to see how the waters in London actually is!! Good video!
Same 😅 it wasn’t the easiest trip I’ve been on, but definitely an experience!
Great video man! So much effort into this. I appreciate your work
Thank you so much!
from Japan🇯🇵
I'm Arsenal fan. I really want to go London to go Emirates stadium and fishing after watching this video! I wish you the best!
Oh wow!! Thank you so much, and definitely give it a go! I think fishing there should get easier in the warmer weather.
i lived in london when i was a kid and fished rivers n canals all the time i once did what you did went to central london and fished the Thames, after climbing walls we found these weird places like where ships would be launched, and from the first cast it was full of things , tons of eels and sea fish! we caught allot of eels, but eveytime it was a big fish we couldn't pull them up the big wall thing , was allot of fun for my teenage self
That sounds amazing! Eels are weird fish…
I'm headed across the pond to London next month (my first trip to the UK). This video is making me think about hiding a collapsible rod in my suitcase.
Judging by my success… maybe keep the rod in the suitcase 😂 Joking aside, there’s plenty of good fishing in the UK, you don’t have to go too far from London to find it :)
Love so much, waching your video❤ I remember when i spent 2 days just because i want catch Barramundi in basin near my town 😂❤ love from Indonesia.
Haha, thank you so much!!!!
Just the GoPro is ok... We don't need to see 36 camera angles... It's a little annoying to tell you the truth.. good luck..🤙🤙🤙🤙
I appreciate the feedback mate! I’ll definitely keep it in mind :)
Loved your honesty..
What “ @snaggedbro do this all the time and they catch fish” no mate they blank all the time ! I used to fish that Limehouse stretch and get pike on dead bait, and eels by the thousands. Nice video and thanks for the effort.
Haha, that is true 😂 Cheers Wilf, all the best!
i cant stand overcrowed spaces aswell. Maybe i should do some streetfishing someday. Greatings from germany and tight lines
It was good for the head :) doing something you like, by water, but in a place you wouldn’t want to be normally, kinda made it all easier!
the problem is clearly that the fish are as arrogant and unfriendly as the city's residents although the fish probably speak better English 🤣
I actually found 90% of the people I bumped into to be lovely! The fish however... Yeah, not so welcoming haha
Thats awesome sir we have thesame hobby though i love fishing stress reliever😊
That’s normally what I enjoy about it too haha, but it was cool to try something new!
camera work & commentary on this vid is crazy, you should come out here to America bro good fishing in every state you would get some great content for sure
I'd love to one day!!!!! Bass fishing looks epic!
what licences do you have for you to be doing this because i live in London and always wanted to fish around london but i dont know what license i need to fish these lakes ponds rivers streams and what lures are you using aswell
Best thing is to pop into a local tackle shop and ask :) they usually have the best info! Online can get confusing
Why non alcoholic cider 🤦♂️
And why do we need to know you’re gluten intolerant ,I thought that was a vegan trait 🤣
corrrr you'll be fuming when you find out I quite enjoy grilled halloumi from time to time 👀😂
All I can say is amazing vid! But, don't forget to change your lure every few minutes if you're not catching.
Thank you! Yes, you’re definitely right, I need to get into the habit of that a bit more!
Wow. Cheers mate! I do angling in Berlin on a regular basis and this video makes that living hell look like a trip to a National Park 😂
Hahahaha!
Fishing in Europe for game fish/predatorial is the HARDEST thing todo i swear! US was sooo much easier and everywhere was good
Haha, I’d love to get out there and do some bass fishing one day! UK definitely seems tough
@@tomwilshaw anywhere you go is great. I LOVED fishing truman dam area the most near missouri and ozarks. But you can fish literally almost anywhere. Do try to have a temp license tho. They get people time to time and temps are cheap
Mate there will be plenty of fish in all those places, but using lures you’re limiting yourself to perch and pike.
Super true!!!!
I’m hoping to get the British record baby wipe this year
Great video😀👏👌, maybe we can collaborate for some next video 😀👊
That would be rad! :)
That's my local tackle shop next time you down I could give you a couple spots that Normally do fish
I’d like that!
Man I must be going deaf because all I can hear at 1:00 is " You've got a tripod set up, do you have a cabbage?"
Bravo!!!
I once saw a terrapin the size of a dinner plate swim past when I was gazing into the water outside the Decathlon at Canada Water in East London.
Ha I bet that was a sight!!
In my country perch and pike is the beginning of spawning now. They stop eating, are u sure its not spawn season?
I think that’s just starting to happen now in the UK, when I filmed this a little while ago they were still biting elsewhere - just not in London apparently! Haha
Big baits for big fish, i think you could catch more fish if you use smaller plastics. like grubs
Yeah I agree!
