If you're still in Illinois, you should give the Fox River a shot. In South Elgin there's a dam where the water right in front of it gets shallow enough that a lot of people just walk out to fish from.
Normally a fan of your content, but this was sad to watch. Countless fish unnecessarily broken off and left with trebles in their mouth. Single hooks and stronger line were needed, or fishing out into open water more. The net was too small and the handle was too short. Then when you did finally land one, its left to flap around on a concrete floor, stripping off its protective slime. These fish can grow to 60lb+ and should be treated better and shown more respect
@@ChickenBoneX they're still a living animal, being made to suffer unnecessarily. Wether or not they're a native species is irrelevant. Interesting video. I'm currently working on that high rise with the tower crane you see 0:16 in, Salesforce tower. I often see people fishing that spot, but never did see anyone pull anything out while I was watching. You're also right at the site of the SS Eastland disaster. From Wikipedia: On 24 July 1915, the ship rolled over onto its side while tied to a dock in the Chicago River. A total of 844 passengers and crew were killed in what was the largest loss of life from a single shipwreck on the Great Lakes.
@@seanyager3177 I always wondered the same thing. The ship actually rolled on its side as passengers were boarding and not equally distributing the load. It was said the Captain tried a few times to get the passengers to move to 'right the ship', but a short while later it ended up tipping and taking on water, leaving several hundred passengers trapped below deck. Prior to the incident, it was said the SS Eastland was known for being unstable out on the water of Lake Michigan. One notable passenger who was supposed to be on that trip was 20 year-old George Halas who had a summer job with Western Electric at the time. But by the time George had made it to the dock, the ship was already overturned.
PS....your rods & reels are TO small for these ? Line is too . That carp was around 15 pounds you landed , if they get any bigger , your lose them ? I have had 5 pounders break my 50 pound test line going into stuff all the time under boat docks , tree limes / branchs !
Nice video! I’ve fished chicago before, it’s definitely fun. I had the same reel as the one in the video that broke around 25:00. A smallie around 3lb snapped my reel in the same spot. That lews reel has a weak point, i felt a new one in the store and you can probably snap it with your hands it flexes so much. They should stop selling it because it’s a problem. Crazy to see the same thing happen…
Please don’t use treble hooks on carp, it’s so unnecessary and damaging. Also please use an unhooking mat to protect these majestic fish so they can be safely released. Good to see people in the US realising how great carp fishing can be.
Yeah… these majestic fish are invasive in the US and can be very destructive. But I don’t like leaving treble hooks in any fish, we switched to J hooks after the first couple break offs
This is why carp are the #1 sport fish in Europe. They’re smart and incredibly strong. These were maybe 7-10lb. Imagine a 25lb carp, of which there are plenty. Harder to find because they are even smarter than the little ones. The quest for the bigger ones makes it even more exciting. Quick tips: heavier tackle. 15lb Big Game is standard for carp. Size 6 wide gape hook. Heavier rod, too. Maybe a stiff trout rod. Treble hook is overkill. The skin in a carp’s mouth is soft. You create a bloody mess with a treble hook, as you could see. Also, bring an unhooking mat so the carp doesn’t destroy itself on the pavement when it’s flopping around. Lastly, a fine mesh landing net. With the type of net you’re using you’re stripping the fins right off the bones. Enjoy!
We catch loads of carp here in the UK, big ens too, but what in the hell do you guys do to make them bleed so much, are your hooks barbed or something? I'm not judging, horses for different courses, but just curious, as some of those fish you had looked like they'd done rounds with Tyson
Dud you shouldn’t use treble hooks on a carp there’s too much damage on their soft mouths just use a single hook with no Barb like we do in the UK and get yourself a telescopic landing net .. thanks for sharing though very entertaining
Yeah it’s very different here than the UK because here carp are an invasive nuisance. But we did switch to single hooks after we broke off the first two
Yeah, big difference in how carp are viewed here and in Europe. Some hot carp spots here have garbage cans for anglers to toss them in after the catch.

carp taste good, they just have too many small bones, I've smoked them before. but I don't think I would eat them from there. I caught mine out of a clear lake.wouldn't that be fun in your kayak?when I was a kid I used to catch them in the Detroit River. thanks for the memories. stay safe that's why it's called fishing not catching
Those Carp are probably the strongest fighting fish in fresh water. I snagged a twenty pounder while fishing for Bass & it tore up My Bass rig. I did manage to land the beast though. Enjoyed watching!👍
It breaks my heart when a fish breaks off my line with a hook inside it. It doesn't bother me that I lost it, but the fact that it will have to live with a hook and bait in its mouth for its rest of the life is heart breaking. I was really disturbed as well when they kept laughing it off without any remorse. An apology and acceptance of the mistake is a must at this point.
@@YakFishField You could have used different hook, such as a dissolvable fishing hook. I understand they are invasive but that also shows a lack of empathy for animals. Next time apologize and learn from ur mistakes
Glad you finally gave carp a chance! If you're ever in NYC there's a pond I fish with 20+ lb carp, commons, mirrors, and koi. We can go after them on the fly if you are up for a real challenge, and I can teach you the way people in the UK fish for them, too. Tight Lines, Rob!!
What cool kids, thanked you for the help, etc, love to see it! and holy crap, Carp seem to be smart as hell. The others approaching danger and following the fish is NOT a normal behavior for a "dumb" creature. I'm quite intrigued now.
Yeah as someone who fishes for carp often they are way smarter than they look, they are super hook shy and skittish and once you do hook them they know right where to go to break you off.

omg! Here in Hungary, if you handle a carp like that (let it injure itself on the floor, use treble hook) you would get your fishing licence "hang up", or at least get kicked out of a certain place, and get a fine. We use barbless hooks, big nets, a fine mattress with water on it, etc... to avoid any injury. Carp is our main fish here, and above 5-6kg, nearly every lake oblige the anglers to release the carps :) Becose the bigger ones have more "eggs"
Well, here in the States they stink, are all over and only live in turd holes so we fish for the hundreds of other species and only fish carp when bored or for a fight as they certainly taste like I imagine a fish turd would lol. Not that serious over here is what I'm getting at.
@@aaronrodden8121 Here in the States they do exist in most water ways, rivers, ponds, etc. and not only in "turd holes". Show me a river anywhere here with no carp. If the water is clean where you take the fish from, they'll all taste just fine.

Shocking display of fishing.treble hooks no unhooking mat landing net to small and to short handle these are majestic fish and can live longer than man.good job your not doing this in the uk you would be faced with some very angry fishermen.
Great video! I laughed with all the break offs... welcome to Chicago
Recipe for carp:
Filet your carp and place it on a piece of cardboard. Spray it with lemon juice, add some dill and thyme. Salt and pepper generously.
Cook the carp on the cardboard for 8 minutes in a 400 degree oven.
Remove from oven, throw away the carp and eat the cardboard.
Carp are trash fish not because of how they fight, they fight well. They trash fish because they are full of bones and don't taste good.
Lmao
I do always dig an urban fishing vid
But I cant lie though, this definitely shows the (lack of) regard for carp in the US compared to here in the UK
It's not a game Fish over in the US. I feel you 😅😄
compared to the rest of the world*
I dont get the problem...
@@MrWpp00 Typically in the UK we would never use treble hooks for carp fishing, we'd always use a single hook and also put them onto a mat or sling to protect them
@@420bongs69 Common carp are an invasive species here. They shouldn't really even be returned to the water, nonetheless handled with kid gloves.
This turned out to be a whole community event, that is good stuff. Tight lines guys!
What would be a logistical reasoning behind using 4 pound line? You could still fish an ultralight setup with 10 pound braid and same line diameter yet not have to worry about snapping the line as frequently and having to rely on treble hooks.
Hello from Ukraine. It was cool fishing. You have a very beautiful city.
Thank you
How'd they make the water look so GREEN? When I was there in 2000 it was brown and smelled like cat food. Probably no coincidence there's a Purina factory on the river.
Shout out Manny from Chicago love this video retired Union carpenter work 20 years downtown Chicago putting up skyeah putting up skyscrapers and right there in that area we put up a couple buildings you are right by Marina towers and across the street across the river rather was Leo Burnett building 50 stories we were there a year working on that building inside and out Love all your videos you guys really had a good time in the City of Chicago I never thought they had fish like that over there Keep up the good videos thank you
If you're still in Illinois, you should give the Fox River a shot. In South Elgin there's a dam where the water right in front of it gets shallow enough that a lot of people just walk out to fish from.
I already moved on but I want to come back! I’ll remember this
You guys killed alot of fish with those trebles staying in them
Normally a fan of your content, but this was sad to watch.
Carp are invasive they steal the resources of the native species i wouldn't have put it back in the water
@@ChickenBoneX they're still a living animal, being made to suffer unnecessarily.
Wether or not they're a native species is irrelevant. They tend to eat different food types compared to the bass, so shouldn't provide any major issues. They can also be just as good sport as catching other species and in many countries in the world are trophy fish that have entire industries based around them.
100% true. Caring for the fish is the most important thing.
They’re an invasive species, and we were learning. Easy to judge after the fact from the comfort of the couch. ✌🏼
All fishing makes an animal suffer unnecessarily, Austin. Sounds like you’re against fishing, and I would suggest you avoid my channel if so. I do it a lot.
I love your channel, but how do you comprehend with leaving hooks in fishes mouths after they break you off. Potentially killing them?
Especially trebles can hook both lips and stop them feeding
Next time I’ll swim down and get it out
@@YakFishField or fish with the correct tackle and don't fish to snags.
This is 4 days before my wife and I took our honeymoon there, and walked along this very spot. We took a Kaayak tour through there and the guide was trying to explain that he had a sit on top kaya, and im like Yeah man I am a kayak fisherman I gotchya, lol. Was wishing I could fish this the whole timee.
On of the best and most unusual fishing videos have ever watched. Downtown Chicago !! Thank you.
I had no idea how much fun it’d be!
@@YakFishField I have some nice river spots up north.
I’m ready when you are.
@@YakFishField so much fun popping fish off of light line and slowly killing them. You say 30lb line but I've landed small tree trunks on 15lb line.
Do more research before going out and harming animals. They're invasive but don't deserve to suffer.
Very cool
How did so many people die in Water that shallow and that close to land?
Chicago is beautiful
Just like carp, this channel is underrated. Love the content.
Haha thanks Arthur
Carp ....gross....invasive non predatory lure ignoring ugly Zionist fish
@@peterlorenzo615 agreed
Might as well have named the video “Filling up the Chicago river with my trebles and fishing line….”
Doesn’t have the same ring to it
Yeah, stay out of Chicago
PS....your rods & reels are TO small for these ? Line is too . That carp was around 15 pounds you landed , if they get any bigger , your lose them ? I have had 5 pounders break my 50 pound test line going into stuff all the time under boat docks , tree limes / branchs !
OMG how fun fellas!!!! That was awesome!!! Those kids were amazing too!!
This was a surprisingly entertaining video.
He broke you off cause you're playing around, the fish was right there and you let him run for no reason
If you say so
Please don’t use treble hooks on carp, it’s so unnecessary and damaging.
Yeah, he should show some respect!
Even if they are invasive...should use a mat, longer net, and basically the opposite of everything he did.
Enjoy!
So wonderful that you got those boys involved . I grew up Carp fishing Chicago so I know how exciting it is to hook a monster .
I fish the wilds of British Columbia and have never been to Chicago but I found this video a lot of fun and quite compelling. Nicely done guys.
Thanks Dave
Best time of my life fishing downtown Chicago everyone is kind .I love my city
And you never learn from mistake dude
We catch loads of carp here in the UK, big ens too, but what in the hell do you guys do to make them bleed so much, are your hooks barbed or something? I'm not judging, horses for different courses, but just curious, as some of those fish you had looked like they'd done rounds with Tyson
Treble hooks and rag them around🤦♂️
Maybe the fact they’re letting them flap around on solid concrete?
Barbed treble hooks
They basically do everything wrong...no respect
@@owenhunt7936 plus they were holding there gills and they didn’t use a good surface to land the fish on..
I have watched hundreds of fishing shows in my 65 years but this was the most enjoyable.
Really? That's a heavy thing to say haha. I think Catfish & Carp has the best fishing channel
Catching carp with a treble hook is not good angling, especially when you break off. The carps mouth could be sealed shut!
We switched to single hooks
Use unhooking mat for carp if you release them like in europe! They will get no damage while you handle them on the bank
We use a stick and bash em in the head. Throw them onto the bank. raCOONS love em tho
When fishing for carp, try corn.
That was some great fishing action there and seeing a bunch of kids enjoying fishing was the absolute best 👍
Such a surprisingly fun day
Hi
Hi Mo fishing TV LOL
Dud you shouldn’t use treble hooks on a carp there’s too much damage on their soft mouths just use a single hook with no Barb like we do in the UK and get yourself a telescopic landing net .. thanks for sharing though very entertaining
Yeah it’s very different here than the UK because here carp are an invasive nuisance. But we did switch to single hooks after we broke off the first two
Yeah, big difference in how carp are viewed here and in Europe. Some hot carp spots here have garbage cans for anglers to toss them in after the catch.
Carp are an invasive species. Not a bad thing to thin their population.
I have saw a lot of fishing videos and has been the most Exciting video!
I love how everyone enjoyed it big time and if they didn’t I’m glad you cut it out lol that looked like fun
It was very fun!
Been to Chi town dozens and dozens of times and never even thought to fish the "canal/river" that's going to make the next trip I make EPIC! Looks like a great time Mr. RF!
Love the windy city 🌆🌆

Never knew you could catch big fish in downtown Chicago! Have to go and try it now!
Go get em!
"I just got outsmarted by that carp...". Lol! I've only ever speared 'em from the Cedar Ave. bridge over Lake Nokomis in S. Minneapolis. That looked like so much fun!
I gained a lot of respect for those fish this day
I take my lunch break here. I thought about fishing a few times. Scoped it out. I’d always find something like a tampon or other gross garbage floating which kept me from giving it a try. Thanks for making this content! I no longer need to do it myself lol
Haha well I definitely wouldn’t eat what you catch
What there's tarpon in there aswell 😂
Ping Tom park is great for fishing. Horrible parking though lol
Super fish!!!
Carp and drum are in completely different orders... not closely related at all
Hmmm did not know that. Thanks
Well it's ray finned
carp taste good, they just have too many small bones, I've smoked them before. but I don't think I would eat them from there. I caught mine out of a clear lake.wouldn't that be fun in your kayak?when I was a kid I used to catch them in the Detroit River. thanks for the memories. stay safe that's why it's called fishing not catching
I wouldn’t eat them from there either
Where there's fish there will be people trying to catch them. It's so satisfying to watch for some reason
Yep
Those Carp are probably the strongest fighting fish in fresh water. I snagged a twenty pounder while fishing for Bass & it tore up My Bass rig. I did manage to land the beast though. Enjoyed watching!👍
Very underrated fish!
They really are. 70pound Carp is a fun fight.
boy I hope you had a chance to fish the Fox river for some smallies!
I didn’t. Guess I gotta go back! I’ve heard good things
I've been carp fishing for years. They are so strong and thrilling to catch. I've had many poles broken over the years. So much fun!!
It happens, and these are an invasive and destructive species.
I'm glad someone said this. I was thinking the same thing.
@@YakFishField doesn't matter, you should always try to cause as little harm as possible
@@YakFishField You could have used different hook, such as a dissolvable fishing hook. I understand they are invasive but that also shows a lack of empathy for animals. Next time apologize and learn from ur mistakes
@@Minsajang lol you’re willing to have a stroke over an invasive species killing the ecosystem it doesn’t belong in 😂

Clip leaderline ...30 lb swivel then BRAID 20 or 30LB. Palomar with clinch on top.
Igy igaz!!Rossz volt nezni,hogyan bantak a pontyokkal!Tipikus amarikai hozzaallas!!
If the water is clean that they live in they taste just as good as any other fish. Now eat a bass from a polluted place and it'll taste like turd. If the water is clean where you take the fish from, they'll all taste just fine.
great vid, but never net a fish from behind. they swim forward. once the kids fish had the head in the net, all he had to do was give some slack and the fish wouldve swam right into the net. you dont need to net the whole fish at once.
It was harder than I expected it to be
