This is why carp are the #1 sport fish in Europe. They’re smart and incredibly strong. These were maybe 7-10lb. Imagine a 25lb carp, of which there are plenty. Harder to find because they are even smarter than the little ones. The quest for the bigger ones makes it even more exciting. Quick tips: heavier tackle. 15lb Big Game is standard for carp. Size 6 wide gape hook. Heavier rod, too. Maybe a stiff trout rod. Treble hook is overkill. The skin in a carp’s mouth is soft. You create a bloody mess with a treble hook, as you could see. Also, bring an unhooking mat so the carp doesn’t destroy itself on the pavement when it’s flopping around. Lastly, a fine mesh landing net. With the type of net you’re using you’re stripping the fins right off the bones. Enjoy!

Great video and thanks. That part of downtown Chicago is so neat. We stayed at a hotel around forty years ago close to the Hancock tower. It had a pool at the top. Close to where you are was Fort Dearborn, just east of Michigan and on the south side of the river. There, in 1812, Indians from all over the midwest attacked the fort. The garrison had plenty of food, water, and ammunition but the commander decided to leave the fort and try to walk to Detroit. The Indians attacked the column and killed and captured mostly all of them. A group of friendly Indians from Fort Wayne made it there just as the group was going through the dunes along the lake and managed to kill many Indians but their leader, Captain William Wells, the adopted son of Little Turtle, Miami chief, was killed in the attempt. Somewhere in a neighborhood just south of the loop is a statue commemorating the event.

Here in Hungary, if you handle a carp like that (let it injure itself on the floor, use treble hook) you would get your fishing licence "hang up", or at least get kicked out of a certain place, and get a fine.
We use barbless hooks, big nets, a fine mattress with water on it, etc... to avoid any injury. Carp is our main fish here, and above 5-6kg, nearly every lake oblige the anglers to release the carps :) Becose the bigger ones have more "eggs"

The aversion is because carp, as bottom feeders, are seen as gross and disgusting and "trash fish" to us Americans, but I don't think it would have been that way if we didn't totally destroy many of our waterways, including the Chicago River, with toxic waste and chemicals.
There's also some confusion among casual anglers with common carp and the disastrous "Asian carp" (bighead and silver carp). I had to stop someone just the other day from killing a common carp because they thought all carp were the Asian carp.

@@KermitTheGamer21 Yeah, I guess that's understandable with regard to the common carp if one is looking at them as table fare. But, there's no reason they can't be considered "game fish". They're challenging, and certainly fun to catch. Anyway, don't most people catch and release fish like largemouth bass in the US? What's the difference?
Asian carp, actually aren't bottom feeders. I understand they're causing an ecological disaster in American waterways. But, they really should be eaten to help control numbers. Prepared correctly, they're very palatable.

@sparkeyjones I 💯 agree. Fun to catch and throw them back seem like the definition of sport fishing.

Because common carp in USA is over populated
Lakes and rivers are filled with Common carp
in most of Europe common Carp is not that common
      There you have
Lakes Catch & Release Carp only big carp
      40 50 lbs
Carp fisherman have their own Carpfishing tackle

@@geoeconomics5629 I haven't fished for them in Europe, but I have caught very large carp in the US, and in Thailand, where they are also considered game fish.

Man that was intense! I wanted to reach over myself lol That kids reel that broke is a Lews Speed Spin reel. Those reels are known for breaking at the mount. Great looking reel but it has bad reviews for breaking at that part. Great video though 🔥

We catch loads of carp here in the UK, big ens too, but what in the hell do you guys do to make them bleed so much, are your hooks barbed or something? I'm not judging, horses for different courses, but just curious, as some of those fish you had looked like they'd done rounds with Tyson
