Beautiful video. I own five acres on a 200ish-acre pond full of three-pound largemouth bass. I live on the coast of Maine, so if you ever want to come fish it, you may.
Aloha. This reminded me of being a kid in Ohio. Our neighbors across the road raised cows. They had a small pond that nobody fished, not the kids or the parents. I would literally knock on their door with my zepco outfit, a bucket and tackle box and ask the Smiths if I could fish. They always said yes, and I’d traipse down the dirt track. Loaded with big bluegill, sunfish, shellcrackers, plus some bass. I’d use worms, crickets, grasshoppers and any else for bait. Just a hook, bobber, and split shot. Beautiful days, and some good fried panfish.
What a treat to fish a virgin water - extremely rare. Does anyone remember Mr Crabtree who used to advise on fishing techniques in the 1960s 70s? He used to talk about the angler keeping low to avoid their shadow falling on the water .... I think he would have seriously disapproved of wearing a bright red fleece!
@@adventurefishinguk I thought it probably is but .... fish can still see just as well as they did then. Captivating comic strip style book, published, I think, by The Mirror group ( newspapers, not carp!) A compelling read for a fishing mad lad in the late 1960s.
If you are going for skittish fish like pike, trout or whitefish this can be very important, but here we are talking about perch, these things will hide under your boat while fishing from it and attack lures larger than they are.
the problem with those two lakes is that they are teeming with fish which are allstunted in growth because there isnt enough food plus there are no predators like pike to thin out the population
Don't be too quick to judge. Fauna reproduces in cycles so a population explosion then decline is normal. Those waters are large enough to hold decent fish numbers. I expect there to be Rudd and possibly crucians. Perch will feed on fry and grow large.
As a boy in a Oxfordshire there was a local small stately home, it had two small lakes, as a 13 yr old I wrote to the owner asking permission, and she allowed four people a year permission, there were lots of Roach medium size carp, and Tench, we never thought there were predators, on an impulse we put a lure on and the result were two Perch over 4 Lbs
We had a pond that was researched by the ministry and they said it was over crowded by perch and sunfish. They recommended stocking with Bass or Pike, so I went to the lake and ordered some 2-3 pound pike and a few years later my brother-in-law swore he hooked one, about 18 pounds but he broke his 10 pound test line.
I used to fish a lot in Sweden when I was younger. Quite often, I fished in small lakes. There is a phenomenon that directly translated would be "a lake of thousand brothers". It means that the lake lacks big perch, but there are very many small ones. There also exists the contrary, small lakes with just a few, but very big perch. I think it has to do with food resources, a small lake can either sustain a big population of small perch or a few big perch.
My 2 cents is that the pond is probably overpopulated with small fish. Taking a bunch of them out would allow the remaining ones to get bigger. Nice video!
Nice to see these sort places still exist. Your story of seeking permission from the farmer is not dissimilar to what happened back in 1950 when a gentleman sought permission to fish an estate lake in deepest Hertfordshire. The rest is history. I hope you get the same rewards.
Great when you find a water like that George. A cousin of mine had a couple on their farm over Fleetwood way many years ago, and they were stuffed with Rudd of al sizes.
In lakes like that there are almost always a few absolute units. But they can be quite tricky to catch, my best method has been a floater with a piece of a smaller perch thrown out and reeled in incredibly slowly across the lake. Give it a go and I think you will have results.
We don’t have largemouth bass no although they live in mainland Europe like France and Spain. I’m actually editing a video where I fished for them as we speak!

i fished a pond when i was a young man of about 14 it was about 100 ft across by 200ft long and there were Rudd in there there were so many that they were attacking a naked hook and must have been staving i ended up going there regularly just to feed them they destroyed loaves of bread and were only about 4 inches long i thing they must have gotten there by being transported by birds as eggs or something as the nearest other water was about half a mile away and down a steep hill so its not like they got there from flooding or maybe someone just introduced a few but they had over stocked by breeding
Nice story thanks for taking the time to comment, I don’t think I’ve actually caught a Rudd before but I would definitely like to! Thanks for watching 👍
@4th_Lensman_of_the_apocalypse just because i catch fish i still like to put them back to be caught again and one day if i feed them enough they could be a record that's the true aim after looking after their health. I once caught a roach that was so big it went an inch over both sides of my 18inch landing net i sat there all day hoping someone would go by so i could ask them if they would watch my fishing kit long enough for me to get my camera and scales that i had left at home. no body went by in the 8 hours i sat there soi put the fish back out of my keepnet there were 2 scales in my keepnet the size of 2 pence pieces in UK money that's all i had of a possibly record breaking fish that day but i still remember it 40 years later

i fished a pond when i was a young man of about 14 it was about 100 ft across by 200ft long and there were Rudd in there there were so many that they were attacking a naked hook and must have been staving i ended up going there regularly just to feed them they destroyed loaves of bread and were only about 4 inches long i thing they must have gotten there by being transported by birds as eggs or something as the nearest other water was about half a mile away and down a steep hill so its not like they got there from flooding or maybe someone just introduced a few but they had over stocked by breeding
Nice story thanks for taking the time to comment, I don’t think I’ve actually caught a Rudd before but I would definitely like to! Thanks for watching 👍
@4th_Lensman_of_the_apocalypse be kind to animals i guess
Love this adventure. Really. But in The US there are tens of thousands of lakes like this. No exaggeration. And many are very productive. Maybe this guy could take a trip to the US.
Been there some parts..it's the British Air and RaiN 🌧 that makes it
I’d love to come over to the US fishing. I feel like it would be hard for me, a foreigner, without knowing many people there to get permission to fish places like that though!
One lake in the US, and not the biggest is 240 miles long. It has a surface area of over 400 Square miles, and it very productive for fish.
Freshwater perch are my favorite breakfast fish.
I can't say I've ever tried eating one!
Great video. What rod were you using when you caught that slab of a perch ? That was a lovely fish and lovely rod too 😁
Nice one mate
Thanks for watching as always!
love ur videos, was wondering, for how many hours u ve been fishing for making this video?
your videos are the best evening company, thank you
Thanks for watching mate! I was probably fishing for 4 or 5 hours in this video but it really varies 👍
@@adventurefishinguk just for make understand the people that fishing big fellas is not easy as it looks like ;) well done mate!
Nice vidéo mate thanks
I’m a firm believer in “little gifts” they go a long way….
Couldn't agree more, thanks for watching!
Have you thought about opening up the shop on tiktok, and releasing a series of shorts to braw people into the shop 😀
I have definitely thought about it yeah it's on my to do list eventually!
The pond is overpopulated causing them small fish. They need to take out over half the perch if you want bigger fish.
Yeah that could well be the case!
@@adventurefishingukI might also add that if there are larger fish in the lake, You can have 3 guesses what they are eating mostly, But you'll only need one! Solve 2 problems in one!
Not big enough for pike? I've caught pike in ditches and seen them in tiny ponds no bigger than a two man tent on golf courses.
What golf course? Would love to get in touch
@@adventurefishinguk the world class millfield in laughterton, lincs.Very close to the trent.A small pond the size of a tent, which the owner filled with goldfish...they didn't last long. There were atleast two small pike with very fat bellies in there. Not sure why you'd like to catch pike in a pond the size of a tent.
Great video buddy. You should fish Dunmow duck pond for big pike . My dad was fishing there and see one attack a small dog going for a swim . Documented fact .
Lol….a 65 yr old Welshman here…(but I was born in Duck End) I remember Dunmow duck pond despite moving to wales in 1963. I haven’t given it one thought in 62 years until I read your post.
So beautiful,fish
That’s an awesome horse
I thought so too 👍 thanks for watching!
That was obviously just one small perch, that you kept showing from different angles,, you can't fool us,, 🤣🤣,, just kidding,, 😂
😂 That's a good idea actually, i'll have to write that down for my next tough session!
How did the other bloke from the tackle shop get on?
quite a few small perch but all roughly the same size 👍
Were you get the rod and real from
Eagle claw made pack rods in America that were collapsible and multi-purpose also. I own 2.
Yes eagle claw are great rods too!
@@adventurefishinguk Yours has a carrying case though... I'm jealous!
If you ever get the chance...come to the U.S for a couple of months(minimum!). For example, live in Michigan, we have 14,000 inland lakes just in this one state, including thousands that are untouched wilderness lakes, not to mention the longest freshwater coastline in the world(thanks, great lakes!) at just shy of 6,000 km. Your love of wild land fishing would mean this is paradise for you!
There’s always an American to come and tell you how great America is
I would absolutely love to, a road trip across the US is a dream of mine!
@@tommyh500 And always a brit to comment on civil war vids. But somehow they never materialized on the battlefield. Except in Zulu land 15 years later.
Fisherman’s dream 😊
such a beautiful pond
Lovely place isn’t it!
Looks like he was catching the same fish over and over. I've had that happen. Very frustrating.
Yeah that’s just how fishing goes sometimes isn’t it! Thanks for watching 👍
This pond needs a pike to clear out some of the small perch.
man, you reeled that one perch in a bunch of times, it'll be exhausted.
