Just found your channel Ashley. From one beginner watch enthusiast to another, here's wishing you success with your channel and that you'll be able to afford your grail watch when you succeed eventually!
Earlier this year, Seiko released a redux of this series in the form of 36mm models, modern movements, 100m WR. 5 dials in total, 3 field, 2 Type B fliegers.
Seiko5 SNK805 is my first watch! It has been running continuously for five years! We are in a Golden Age of watch collecting and enjoyment! Your observations and opinions are very well considered. I like the quirky nature of the 7s26 non winding movement. But your advice is a great guide for entry level buyers.
I have modded my SNZG15 with an NH36 movement and couldn't be happier. You can do the same to your SNK803 for less than $50. That upgrade alone gives a huge boost, making the watch truly complete. I love the double-deck dial of the SNZG15. My only wish is that the numerals were applied, just like in this black model-it gives an additional 3D look.
Thanks for another great review! I had the SNK809 back when they were closer to 50 USD than 100, prices sure have gone up...have now an SNKL creme dial, looks really nice and 'vintagey' on a Hirsch lizard strap
Since you own this watch, this is my first ever automatic watch, still have the option to return it, but, is it normal that when I don't use this watch, the watch stops ticking after a few hours?
Your seiko 5 vidz are my favourites. Never fails to provide a detailed descriptions of the model. Keep up the great work! Btw Ashley, I stumbled upon SNKF77J1 but dont seem to have ANY reviews about it in RUclips. It was of an interesting design that grows on me 😂 reviews
The PVD black coating eventually will wear out if you knocked the watch hundred times, that's why im avoiding any Black PVD coating, It may look cool though
Got the SRPG35J as my first mechanical watch a couple years ago, the movement did break on me once, but Seiko replaced it, the crystal also got a chip in it pretty quickly, but replaced it with a double doomed sapphire one, I don't use it that often anymore, but it is a overall pretty decent, if I look at the dial its nice, but the bezle collects dirt under the edge so its kind of annoying..
I bought the SNK803 when it was $70 in 2017. It was a good deal then, but has more than doubled in price since then. I agree this watch model is a much better deal. If you dont like the all-black for legibility reasons, it comes in several other more legible color ways.
I found an SNK800 blue dial almost new and the watch dealer made me an offer to buy for 50 USD. I purchased a SRPJ81 black dial 38mm field watch. It barely gets any wrist time. I’ve been wearing my gold dial SNKX81 with Jubilee. You have your 79 crystal fixed?
A field watch which is not "legible" is problematic. A field watch which is a military watch was designed to be the most legible watch among all watch design styles. The original field watches of WWII range from 35mm to 38mm in size. They are designed to fit under the sleeves of a field jacket and field shirt. The more accurate Seiko field watch in terms of size is the 38mm SRPJ85. The SNK800 is not a field watch. It's a pilot watch. The "Dress-KX" is not a dress watch. It's a sports watch.
Hi Ashley - Enjoying your channel and style. Found you via algorithm on your SKX013 video, btw I still covet and wear my 007 and 009. I love Diver's, but avoid micro brands. Regards, JP from LA. New Sub.
The SRPJ8x series are a worthy replacement to the SNK80x series. Smaller 36mm case size but truer to the vintage aesthetic. Hacks and hand winds, and more $$ as well, so not the value as the original, but on wrist it feels as good or better than the SNKs. Interestingly enough, not as many reviews online as one would think since its release back in March this year.
Great video as always, Ashley. You have a way of making me appreciate things I didn't appreciate before. I picked up a Seiko 5 for 80 or 90 USD a while back. I still have it, although the case is a bit small for me, so it doesn't make it into the rotation as often as it would otherwise. There are some nice S5s out there, but as their price tags creep up, they become less interesting to me.

I wish Grand Seiko would do a field watch, but they do only dress style watches.
Excelente explicación querida Ashley..., muchas gracias por todas las consideraciones en cuanto al Seiko 5 esfera negra. Un abrazo

thanks for watching! and wow, 5 years huh.. i'm reaching 3 years with mine :D
I got the SPRPG41K1, replaced the leather strap with a black NATO that has a thin light gold line on it. It looks fantastic.

Thank you for covering this watch and many other watches. I'm lucky to buy my first Seiko 5. Thank you

Have you tried any of the 36mm models?
Finally someone with the same wrist size as me! Your videos are very helpful, I really like your very objective reviews :)

that's what I'm afraid of too, also, I forgot to mention in the video that, it kinda feels like a fingerprint magnet

I got this model with yellow indexes which is contrast to its dial and easier to read. This really a cool looking one tk sit at the box
Nice!! Didn't know about that
SNK807 was my first mechanical watch. Love it. Take care of the stye on your eyelid.
Nice! yeah, I think I had some problems with my contact lens :/
I bought the SNK803 when it was $70. It was a good deal then, but I agree, the price had gotten ridiculous for what you get. I also own this S

hey, no it's not fixed yet, but I'm planning to do it myself after the crystals arrive :D

Hi there! Thanks for sharing & sub!
I loved mine but sold it to finance other watches. Awesome review Ash!
hahaha, I might do that to some of my other watches too! Because that's what watch youtubers do haha, thanks Abdullah!
does the black color scratch easily?🥺

thanks Keith! appreciate the kind words. Yeah, prices do creep up nowadays.
My first automatic watch was the seiko 5 snkl83. I did end up changing the steel bracelet for a rubber strap 😮 🎩 🪄
nice choice! I actually can imagine how it looks with the rubber strap, it looks great!
thank you. very informative
Glad it was helpful!
The SNK809 is a million times more beautiful than the new ones. Slimer, smaller beautifull dial, correctly priced.
thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Like the style but it's too thick for me.
Need one
ill get that srpg27!
Right???!!
hi hi, im also a new watch collector. do u wanna do a podcast with me as your guest? . im from Cheras
Seiko aren't value for money. Casio and Citizen are. Berny do a wicked VH31 flieger SNK look a like. Baltany are good. MWC are tops. Thank you 😊
Yeah large on your wrist. Good size for an average male.
