I have never seen this idea anywhere else and it is an excellent one!!! You have impeccable taste in fabric and design. Thank you so much. Can't wait to try it.
Sherrill, great tutorial. Thank you for providing the details for the different size quilts and # of strips. That was a real time saver. And I love the idea of letting jelly rolls do their job - certainly takes the guess work and time figuring out a colorful, coordinated pattern. Really appreciated your tutorial.
Hi Bill. You can purchase jelly roll packs at fabric stores and on the internet. Just ask for jelly roll fabric packs. Have fun shopping, and happy sewing.
Hi Linda. You can watch any of my quilt videos and all the steps to complete a quilt will be demonstrated. Here is a link to a video showing different types of beginner quilt: ruclips.net/video/Byj0uRTuhgQ/видео.html Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
I just made this adorable quilt in the baby size. The jelly roll strip got wonky and I was very careful. Is there a secret way to keep this striaght? Would using flannel inside instead of batting keep it straighter? It was lopsided about 3/4 inch when done. Not a good look. Thank you for all the great classes! Kept pulling up this video for tips, but nothing helped.
Hi Debra. There are several things that could have caused it to go wonky. Make sure you stitch seam is equal all the way across each row. If at one end of the row the seam is wider or narrower than the opposite end of the row, that will cause the remaining rows to go in the wrong direction. Check your 1/4" seam - is it straight all the way across and the same width all the was across? Also, when pressing each row try not to stretch the fabric. Don't give up - it will get better. My first quilt was a disaster. Thank you for watching The Sewing Room Channel. Happy sewing.
Hi Donna. This method I demonstrated is used for making smaller projects. But, you can use this method except you would have to stitch the strip ends together to make it long enough to go across a queen size quilt. As far as the size of the backing and batting fabrics, I recommend you measure your current queen size bed cover so that you get exactly what you need. Here is a video to watch that talks about backing fabric. I hope it helps. Happy sewing. ruclips.net/video/YEO18obNITE/видео.html
Oh my gosh do you really cut using a rotary cutter toward yourself?? How dangerous is that and your demonstrating that for people to do. I think that if that is what you choose to do off camera that's one thing but for you to do it on camera is irresponsible on your part and anyone else who does it. Obviously this is just my opinion but I was just shocked and you don't even have a disclaimer about it.
Hi Angela. I didn't mean to scare you. No I never cut towards myself with a rotary cutter. That would be very hard to do. I had to go back and watch the video to see what you were talking about. It was around 9:07 minutes into the video. I was just indicating what areas needed to be trimmed off. If you watch it again. My rotary cutter blade was not released out (it was closed) and no fabric was cut. Thank you for watching the video and bringing this to my attention. Happy sewing.
This is a beautiful quilt. I am going to do this for a pillow cover for a large pillow! Thanks, Sherrill!
Hi Patricia. Glad the tutorial was helpful. Thanks for watching💗 and happy sewing😍

Thank you for this video, I hadn’t thought about doing the jelly roll like this - when the strips are done the quilting is done!
Carlene, I absolutely agree, how clever is this, I had never thought of this either, Sherrill is very talented :0)

How many inches is batting and how many inches for backing for lap quilt
You can make a lap quilt any size you want. I make mine around 45" wide by 55" long. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
If you would be making a queen size how would you cut the backing and batting? You didn't explain at the beginning
