    I have been experimenting with different 223 & 5.56 ammo in my Ruger MPR. Last week I narrowed it down to Hornady 223 73 gr ELD match, consistent sub-MOA. That ammo had best results out of 14 different manufactures and weights from 55 gr to 77 gr in 223 & 5.56.

    I still have the 1st iteration of this 5.56, and it has always been my “ Go to “ favorite of all the weapons I own. I just recently converted my Ruger SR556 to a bull pup configuration, and love it even more, because of the compactness of it, and still maintaining its ruggedness, reliability, and importantly……it’s overall accuracy. Definitely a game changer 😉👍

    I have two of their Ruger 556 mid-length carbines, and then bought the 'MPR' for reaching out further.
    So far, all three of them haven't disappointed (Nearly 4 years for the 556's, 2 for the MPR).
    You DO need to give them a variety of projectile weights, just to see which they prefer, but aside from that, enjoy! Thanks for taking the time to make, and then share this video! :-)

    • @AmericanMANandSON
      @AmericanMANandSON  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, it is an Olev 2.5 x 10x 40mm.
      There are plenty of other scopes I would prefer, but I had this one sitting in one of my range bags. It shoots well up to about 300 yards. Hard to reach out further with the scope, but the MPR will reach out and touch something at 700+ yards, with the right scope and shooter...
      Hopefully this helps 😊

    i have the mpr as well and the hexmag jams every shot. pmag works fine.

    cycling by hand and every round will feed.
    but once i take that first shot it jams.

    • @AmericanMANandSON
      @AmericanMANandSON  2 года назад

      Yes, the hex mags I use are gen 2. "Sentry Hexmag Series 2" to be exact.
      I haven't had any issues with these mags whatsoever. No mis-feeds, no jams, nothing.
      I've put several thousand rounds down range with this AR-556 MPR and I have not encountered a single issue.I also utilize remanufactured rounds relatively frequently as well. I am (and have been) VERY pleased with how well this rifle has performed, especially for the price.

    How loud is that muzzle brake? Ever use it at an indoor range?

    • @AmericanMANandSON
      @AmericanMANandSON  5 месяцев назад

      It is very loud, for how small the round is (223/556). The sound and the shock from the muzzle dampens the kickback bigtime. So, it is VERY easy to shoot, but VERY loud.
      I wear inner ear AND outter ear protection when shooting at indoor ranges.
      It is super fun and easy to shoot, all things considered. My mom is 70 and she easily handles it without issue.

    I came oh so close to going MPR years ago.
    What turned me off was its widely reported feed issue.
    I ended up going AR556 #8529 free float version.
    It's basically same rifle minus longer barrel & better trigger.
    As for Ruger AR quailty , great base to build off of so I've found.
    Start with replacing gas block asap , it's fail ready junk.
    I recommend OdinWorks.
    Upgrades taking it to next level - Grip , Stock , BCG , Charging handel , Buffer spring , Trigger , Takedown pins.

      Owners I came across reported it to be issue so went with AR556 #8529.
      To my surprise that developed short stroke due to weak gas block.
      Anyway easy fixes for both.

    • @AmericanMANandSON
      @AmericanMANandSON  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the comment. There are actually a bunch of small differences that equate to a more 'all around' gun.
      I will miss some for sure, but the differences I know about are:
      The trigger
      The M-LOK free float hand guard
      18" barrel over the 16" of the older version
      9/1 barrell twist
      The muzzle break
      Rifle length direct impingement gas system over the carbine length.
      Longer hand guard.
      Full pit rail down the length of the gun.
      I know there are more, that's what I recall off the top of my head
      I like your scope/sights much better. It brings the upper receiver together big time. I'm going to look into it.
