I wondered the same thing. I mean, who's even going to see it there? The teeth are gonna be in the way, so you'd have to really try in order to actually see it.
It can be handpoked in there, dentists see it, you know it's there, and it is painful but not too bad

My mate got the roof of his mouth done and he said after "OMFG dude my forearm hurt more then that wtf" he was very very fucking high that's why it didn't hurt lol but he got another one after that and fucking screamed he looked like someone had ripped his insides out lol

Did that. And by someone who had never even touched a tattoo gun before. It was a NIGHTMARE ! I love the tattoo though. Dont regret it. Hell will freeze over before i get the other side done though

I must be the only person on earth where that didn't really hurt. I have a massive cat on the back of my leg and near the knee ditch and on the back of the leg headed inward was bad times. The butt and the meeting of the butt and thigh was honestly relief compared to the rest.

Fun fact: doctors will put pressure on the sternum to verify if someone one is actually pass out or faking it. The pain can be so bad that is almost impossible not to react if you're not totally out
I got that tattoo and i gotta say it did hurt but my mentality or what i think off is a tattoo is like a haircut dont move or you will ruin it and for some reason it eased the pain and i got thru it
got a bad sternum rub when I had an apnea attack in big bear. I was out and body was cold but it brought me back from the dead haha

I was 8 hours deep into my forearm tattoo and my artist had to go up into the ditch of my elbow. I ended up in tears man. I felt my soul ascend.

At this point I just go in with the "this is going to hurt no matter what" kind of mind and it helps a bit at the parts that hurt the most you're brain says "this is exactly what I expected so I'm prepared for it" and at the best parts you're brain thinks "it's not so bad I must be a god" that's also why you always get more
I used to work in a tattoo shop (shop help, not an artist), and the people who handled the pain the best were the ones who, like you said, psyched themselves up beforehand with the idea that it was going to be. Conversely, I saw a few people who went into it thinking it wasn't going to hurt at all, and couldn't sit longer than an hour. Specifically remember one young guy trying to impress his girlfriend, who was mocking him before sitting down about how he was going to cry. He acted all tough about it, and then spent the next 45 minutes writhing and nearly crying before he had to stop. This was a simple cross with a banner tattoo on the outside of his lower leg (generally considered an easier spot to get done) and he couldn't hold it together. His girlfriend laughed at him. I would have felt bad for him if he wasn't such an arrogant douche when he first came in.
Very true. I expected around my elbow to SUCK. It wasn't fun, but not nearly as bad as I thought. The ditch still sucked balls, though.
This mentality got me through my ribs piece.
I got my whole right side rib cage done and I psyched myself up for it. When I got it done, I was laughing, and when my artist scolded me, I had her put me in the position she needed me in, and then I fell asleep, hahaha.

my suggestion for pain management would be bring a sports mouthpiece, it helps more than you would expect. that and bactine got me through the bad sittings. both of my arms and my chest are fully blasted. i'd say my upper stomach and middle chest area were the most excruciating pain I have had. we worked on that area in one sitting for about 6-7 hours. I normally sit like a rock but i couldn't reciprocate in a normal conversation.

This is 100 % correct. I got my shoulders, knees, behind the knees, and sternum tattooed. Not at once lol. But theres always that one spot that is the worst. I actually thought by giant calf tattoo was the worst pain I've ever felt while being tattooed and that didnt even come up here lol

any spot is worth it if you really want it there. I knew I wanted one in the lower part of my stomach, all the way across the bone, and I knew it would hurt like a bitch, even more so as I’m terrible with pain. so I went with it, and it was an unforgettable masochistic hell for five hours, but in the end I was the happiest because it was exactly what I wanted it to be
the pain only lasts a few hours, and a tattoo stays with you for approximately forever
so choose a perfect place for your perfect thing to adore it later and do not cut yourself any slack
you will not regret it
Ankle does hurt but it’s more annoying then anything. Like I have a skunk (flower) sitting on grass and all I did was say I hate fu*king grass and couldn’t wait until she went on to something else lol

I am getting a whole sleeve for my leg, and I just got my calf finished 2mths ago. Getting my kneecap tattooed next.
First tattoo i got was on my chest, down around my upper nipple, collar bone and ribs was fucking awfull. But my recomendation to anyone taking big tattoos on the chest is awoid the nipple era as much as possible

Prepare physically and mentally before every tattoo. When the pain start to get to me, I repeat in my head: "I'm not in pain, it is only discomfort". Helps me a lot.

And also, I'm pretty sure a tattoo artist wouldn't legally be allowed to aquire and use the kinds of drugs that would knock you out like that.
Maybe get an artist who uses uses numb spray. (don't just use it on your own beforehand)
@@almappes3396 antistesia is dangerous, many people go under and are not able to be brought back. The whole point is to put you as close to death as possible then bring you back. The medical field still doesn't fully understand how antistesia even works.
Because it would be a few grand just for the anesthesia

I only have one tattoo and it’s on the back of my neck and I was so worried that it was going to hurt a lot more than it did (I have a low pain tolerance) and honestly, it doesn’t hurt that much. If you’re worried about pain, do what I did and start with something small. Something that will take under an hour. Your body gets used to the dull pain and I promise that you probably think it’s worse than it really is, otherwise people like me wouldn’t want or get more tattoos. I could see tattoos taking 3 hours or more definitely getting really sore. Especially big pieces. Bring a friend and research the place and the artist before getting a tattoo. It really helps the vibe👍🏻
It's really about the artist. I had a group of 6 friends and I go to the best tattoo parlor in the town we were staying in while in Crete, and all seven of us said they felt almost nothing and that included stomach, ankle, collarbone, and other tats.

The guy who said that pretty much every tattoo is going to have a dime sized spot that’s super painful is so true. I have a side thigh piece, a rib piece, and a piece that stretches shoulder blade to shoulder blade. I was told that my shoulder piece would be bad because it was across the spine, but that part barely hurt at all. It was just the edges of the tat where it went onto the shoulder blade itself that really killed. I was told my thigh piece would hurt less than my shoulder piece, but it hurt SO MUCH MORE (same artist for both), and where it stretched a little towards the back of the thigh/under the butt was fucking excruciating. The ribs hurt, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting (it was mostly just difficult to lay on my side for that long), but there were a few places on the upper ribs that had me clenching my teeth.
For sure the worst part of getting tattooed for me is just the healing process. The itching drives me fucking mad.
That bit about long sessions is SO true. My half sleeve was almost nine hours in the second session and my artist saved the center of my upper arm for last. I'd been through the inner arm, elbow ditch, elbow itself without a problem and that last bit of center arm just KILLED. I didn't cry, but I was shaking like a leaf by the time he finished. Roughest 45 minutes of any tattoo I've had.

I got my first tattoo at 6 years old and it was pretty emotional experience. I can remember. I think it was Tony the Tiger and came right out of the cereal box. And I had to dig all the way to the bottom. It was one hell of a job. I thought I'd never get there.
My rule of thumb is the closer you get to a joint or the less fat there is, youre probably going to feel a bit more.

As someone who does their own tattoos and has done hand, wrist, arm ditch, and just above the knee, my hand like just below the knuckle was the most painful spot. That one has me crying and laughing at the same time

Anyone that lives reasonably close and wants a tattoo and can live with being on a waiting list, you'd be a fool to go to anyone else. I can't imagine a better tattooist for your first tattoo.

eh. I've my entire back (tops of shoulders to ass crack) done, and mostly eh, it didn't really hurt. Like the last guy said though, there were spots (for me, about the size of a dime) that sucked balls hard, but overall the rest I was mostly nodding off for.
I got my first 2 in one night and they were both about 4-5 inches long, didn't really hurt but they were on my biceps
Have my arm, hand, fingers, neck done, and everything was fine except the throat and wrist.
I can't get why ANYONE wants a tattoo or a piercing on his/her genitals.😶

Some people like pain! Literally, some people genuinely enjoy pain. That's why some people get tattooed (other than enjoy getting art on their body). It's adrenalin.

Tattoos haven’t bothered me - foot, wrist, Achilles’ tendon all were “normal” pain levels. But behind my ear was intense. It was more the way you have to lay with your head turned, my other ear suctioned to the chair and the buzzing of the machine made my brain tickle.

Out of all my tattoos, the one one my ribs was the worst! I’ve been tattooed 8 times on various parts of my body since I got that one, and it’s still my most traumatic tattoo memory.
The one I heard once but for me was just strange was the pelvic girdle. Had my wife’s name done and I’ve never been through such a 0-100 experience on each letter. It was either laying in the beach or getting eviscerated every other second I didn’t know what to think.

I agree with everyone who said ankle. I got my whole ribs tattoed in one 6 hour session and it was nothing compared to ankle bone.

For the people who didn't catch the theme, the spots that hurt the most are where you have the most exposed connective tissues. Muscle insertion and origin areas.
