I have a story similar to the last one. Once in 9th grade, in the middle of the school musical rehearsal, I was sitting on the edge of the stage reading my lines. This little goblin-like girl who was also in the play tapped on my back and whispered in my ear, "Did you notice? I have been licking your elbow." Horrified, I checked my arm and sure enough, it was wet with spit. She then gave me a wicked smile and ran off. It still haunts me to this day.
It's so weird hearing artists talk about clients being drunk, every artist I've been to has had me sign off saying I'm not under the influence of anything. I couldn't imagine stumbling into a shop whilst trashed.
It sounds like a lot of these stories are from a while ago or when they first started out. New artist need the work and may have had to settle for doing a drunk person wanting something random. Kinda sucks but i mean work was work. I’m sure now they’re all against doing any drunk tattoos unless if that person comes in again insistent on that tattoo to which each their own at that point.
thegirlwiththeappletattoo idk I got my first face tattoo while telling the guy I was hella fucking high on klonopin for mania as I haven’t slept in 3 days. I still love my face tattoo tho ...
My tattooist lets his clients get drunk in the shop, like a bring-your-own-beer type deal. So they can numb the pain and he can cut them off at buzzed. It worked really well for me when i got my feet tats, responsible numbing lol
Every place I know makes you sign a paper as well but these guys all seem to have really popular overly expensive places so maybe they don't care as much.
I gotta add a shout-out to the BRO whom covered up my happy mistake. I had a bad tattoo of a crinkly moon on my wrist (my moon moon) for almost 5 years solid and just this past October I got it covered up. And MY. MAN. I told him ahead of time that I have a nerve disorder so I'll be in more pain than an average bloke. And he was real chill about the whole thing. Kept me talking the whole three hours it took and if I cried randomly he'd talk me through it, like not babying me but talking about anything else like this wasn't even happening. He gave me confidence, he was a GREAT conversationalist whom was hilarious, and he was excited with me because he had some beautiful sick ideas for my cover up (half sleeve of creepy woods) and I stuck it out to fulfil his vision so I now have ART on my arm and the best fuckin experience. BLESS THAT BRO.
The woman who did the tattoos on her dad with parkinsons sounds really cool. Given I have cerebral palsy and I'm always scared of spasms messing up big batches of ink so I'm glad people are aware of these challenges. Given I have a vocal slur and stagger/have a rolling limp I'm always hyper worried they just assuming I'm on something especially if I get a violent batch of spasms. Plus the awareness of the medications and issues and how that affects bleeding and stuff.
I think it was his way of trying to talk her through it. My husband passes out at the sight of blood and when he gets his blood drawn (whether he sees it or not). I can't tell you how many nurses say "oh no, you wont pass out with me, you are going to be fine" when he gives them a heads up before they start. He passes out every time though. I don't think it's meant in an irresponsible way.
Most people know long beforehand when they're gonna puke because: familiar symptoms. I get nauseous first, then I start to feel hot and sweaty, and the chunks are coming up; this all within a few minutes. Plenty of time to find a bucket or facehug the bowl. But this guy didn't listen. So he had to go find a mop.
9:36 Ask your dad to tattoo something small on you. It could be a smiley face or some minimal symbol that means something to you. A lot of what I'm hearing is tattooing vulnerable people. If you can visibly see someone is incredibly drunk you shouldn't take their money and tattoo them in that sort of state of mind. It should be your responsibility as a shop to turn these people away, as far as I'm aware most tattooists and shops have on their TOS that you must not come to the shop drunk, and not to drink before appointments. Walk in or not you shouldn't enable their drunken mistakes. You cannot give full consent when you're drunk.
My craziest client story: I got asked early in the morning to do a hand tattoo that said "blessed" tattoo took about 40 minutes. When he leaves my house he gets into a huge brawl an hour later.. Shattered his hamd and can no longer use it for the rest of his life. About 4 weeks later he messages me again and asks if i can put blessed on his other hand this time...
I love these crazy stories but I also would love to see some of the "most emotional tattoos" because I know they can be so cathartic and those are the tattoos these people are proud of doing

I don't know what the status quo is in tattoo shops, but from my personal POV if an idiot is intoxicated and decides to go into a tattoo shop that's his own problem. You should be responsible when you drink, if you are going to get hammered you need to have people responsible for you who are not hammered.

It's heavily implied that the people who come in drunk have already made the appointment/consultation while sober. Then, they got drunk to "numb the pain" before the tattoo. In this situation, and most others tbh, it's the person getting the tattoo who needs to take responsibility for getting it. If they know the risks and do it anyway, that's on them.
