@@noobcraft6225 Generic brands are common if you're nabbing lights from a place like wish.com so thought it was worth covering in the video. If you're meaning the small can at 7:39 that's a generic 86 par can (link in the description).
Your video work is beyond professional. I want you to make a career out of this shit dude. You are an inspiration
Dude! Thank you. If it gets the traffic one day I would LOVE to do this full time. These videos are all made in late hours of the night after kids and work because i'm super passionate about this stuff.
@@Atmoseeker I had thought about doing stuff like this for years, but I was broke and the barrier to entry was much higher. Seeing you do all this here for (relatively) cheap has me inspired again.
Insta-sub.
This is just fantastic :D Love the channel!
Cheers mate!
Yeahhhhhhh 😎 **takes notes for future studio**
Oh buddy! sure you could do amazing things!
@@Atmoseeker When the time comes, I know who to call🙂
Mano! E isso cara! Colocar isso na minha mesa de RPG estarei em oto patamar! 😂😂😂 Aí sim!
I can't tell you how much I love this video. I am working on the build out of my DnD Room in my new house and will definitely be referencing this video a lot.
Thank you buddy! Sounds amazing! please share how it turns out!
Another mind-blowing video mate. In my humble opinion, these videos are the future of TTRPG.
Thank you so much dude!
GLORIOUS! THANK YOU! I am going to study this video insanely closely and will report my progress accordingly.
Thank you so much mate! Always available on the discord if you need any help.
Great video. Can you share some of your lighting presets? And where did you get the lanterns on the table? I assume they are LED?
Those lanterns were shown in the Pirate Game Room video ruclips.net/video/KmyMf5y95Wg/видео.html (links there to something similar to these ones). I would LOVE to share lighting presets, that's a fantastic idea. It's very dependent on peoples fixture setup, but worth investigating if it's possible.
@@Atmoseeker I think that a google spreadsheet or doc with some starter values would be greatly appreciated. Atleast by me haha. Also really looking forward to the streamdeck episode. One of your earlier videos convinced me to buy one already!
Very cool stuff! I think the majority of what you show could be accomplished with just two of the RGBW lights and a spotlight. Thanks for posting this.
Cheers mate! Absolutely, gotta go with what fits your space.
Awesome as always!
So excited to see this come out!
Awesome coverage of the topic as always!! I can’t wait to expand our setup a bit with some new ideas you’ve given me!! 😊
Thanks mate! I know you'll do amazing things! always feel free to reach out on the discord if you need any help
@@Atmoseeker of course! You’ll be the first person I ask when I inevitably run into problems!!
Awesome video. Using this to completely redo my basement game room!
I was literally looking for something like this last night. Ended up getting frustrated and gave up. Great video as always dude!
I hear that! When I got started with DMX, it was a lot of poking around in the dark until something worked which was very frustrating. That said, now that it's all working, it's a fantastic tool in the game room.
Exceptional video! Thank you for making this, very useful for ideas and explanations.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
This was beyond helpful! I saw similar affects in a tiktok randomly and had no clue how it worked. I can't believe how perfectly this video fit for what I was hoping to learn and the clarity and presentation of this video are just insane. I hope this channel really takes off!
Thanks very much! Glad you found it 😄
Absolutely clutch video- I’ve been wanting to get Fables on DMX for some time but couldn’t wrap my head around the resources i was finding. Great breakdown
Can't wait to see it on Fables! Yeah i've spent a lot of time working this out myself with lots of dead ends. Now it's a lot of fun making lighting presets and animations for all kinds of situations. Glad to hear it'll be useful!
Loving your channel that brings the "it's a stage play"/stagecraft approach to D&D terrain! It lends itself to all aspects of this approach (Pepper's Ghost anyone?). Re: Lighting...is there a way to synchronise effects like lightning to thunder sounds? (would be useful for spell effects too) I use a down-projector to place magical animated effects on the terrain aswell. Bringing tech-magic into game-play is the beez...
Thanks mate 😄 that projector setup sounds top notch. I am hoping to do a video more focused on lightning effects. There are ways you can sync things up to sounds, I just gotta investigate it a bit more on the DMX side of things.
A pretty simple way is to get one of those cheap strobe lights that have a mic/sound mode for controlling the strobe flashing, and experimenting with the sensitivity and your speaker placement.
@@Atmoseeker The down projector is for when you're not using terrain...but you can mix terrain pieces nicely into a projected scene (& more naturally than having an underscreen I think). Makes for a dynamic scene creation tool that one-ups the old neoprene mats...the negative?: fan noise...the eternal enemy...but background music tends to mask it.
@Talismancer that's great, yeah I bet you could get a storm video and project it downwards too. That'd give you some flashes with sound. I have a video backgrounds playlist on my channel if you wanna try some weather effects, etc ruclips.net/p/PLn9FTf3gHbvgc_ys3lhZVPlVpqTTTWQCe
I hear ya about the fan noise, now you get why I unplugged the fan in this video 😅 it's a year later and all the lights are still doing fine. Dunno if it'd be the same case for a projector, but fan noise is definitely a factor when I was looking at picking up a new one.
@@Atmoseeker Cheers...I'll give'em a punt.
Jumped in and started buying a DMX lighting setup because of this!
My LEDs are a bit lower tech than this, but you've given me some ideas, even so. This setup, tho, is #Goalz
After watching this I am now hooked and a subscriber! Not being very tech savvy I’m a little overwhelmed but excited to try these techniques in my upcoming game room. Would be able to tell the settings you used when making your scenes like the sunset and storm? Just would help with getting started. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Thanks so much! Personally I'm very much an amatuer enthusiast of this stuff, and yes it can be a bit of a hurdle to get started. This video is a result after many months of trial and error and is difficult to find information on. I hope the video helps those interested in the DMX lighting for tabletop gaming.
As for the lighting scenes, it sounds like there's an interest for sharing those templates, i just need to work out how to share that in a clear way. In the meantime, feel free to DM on instagram/twitter and i'll help as much as i can. RUclips Channel members/Patreon supporters also get access to the Discord where we have a small community of atmosphere enthusiasts.
Cool setup and I'm totally saving this tutorial for later uses, haha.
One note on the Fan. They LEDs might be cool to the touch, but removing the fan might impact the lifetime of the fixture as a whole, certain electronics inside might need cooling for longevity.
You probably dont run them full brightness/on state so likely not a huge issue.
Thanks mate! I kinda fumble my way through electronics circuitry stuff, so I appreciate this insight. It's great to know, thanks!
I'm really looking forward to the Elgato integration.
Love all of your videos. Have tried to replicate the setup but have major issues with the usb drivers on windows 11. Know about how to get past the unsigned drivers, but cannot get qlc to do anything with the par lights
Sounds like I'll have to upgrade to windows 11 and check it out. Thanks so much for watching!
This is so unique! Literally no one on youtube makes this kind of content! At least i didn't find them... Mate are you filmmaker by profession?
Thanks very much! Yeah it's hard to find info on DMX lighting (especially for tabletop gaining) so I was very happy to share.
Film making's been more of a hobby, but my day job is in Video game animation
I agree. I'm a keen crafter and love improv...I feel this channel is going to the missing component which will push my games into the stratosphere.
This looks so awesome! I’ve been using a couple of Neewer lights from one of your previous videos. Looks like it’s time to upgrade XD
Do you think there’s still a place for the Neewer lights alongside the DMX lights?
I definitely use some of the Neewer type led lights as more of my portable setup. In this game-room type setup it's usually used more as feature lighting (billboards, fires, lava, magic zones, etc)
Wonderful video! Is there any hardware 'between' your computer and your lights?
Also, I see you recommend the stream deck. Do you think a device such as the Loupedeck Live could work as well?
Thank you! The only hardware between the computer and the lights is the udmx adapter (seen at 2:00 ) . I'm not totally familiar with how the Loupedeck works, but if it's anything similar to the streamdeck it'd be possible. Looks like a nice piece of kit
awsome lighting just need to pimp that table up. sort of small on the sides ? no books fit there
Thanks! I'm mostly using this table cause it's a bit easier to show the lighting setup in the space I have. That said, this table works fine for 2-3 player games with some side tables for extra books if we need. I usually add another table for larger groups.
That's so cool! Can you suggest any wallet-friendly lights that will work as a portable solution that's capable of doing storm or beacon like effects? I have a spare Raspberry Pi so it will be awesome if I could use it (with QLC+?) and control from mobile phone (through web page or app?). I'm thinking of running my first session so ease of setup and control is a big plus :) Thanks!
First off, thanks for being the inspiration for my dungeon, second - those 86 led pars - how many failures have you had? I keep burning LED’s in mine
Thank you so much! Yeah to LED burn out on those 86 pars is pretty shit. I've definitely lost a couple over the last 2 years, and despite being fan-less it makes them hard to recommend these days. It's a big reason why I upgraded to those AVE brand lights.
@@Atmoseeker what's AVE brandights? I don't want to purchase the dmx if its not gonna last long :(
@@muathk100 AVE are a professional brand of lights used for entertainment/dj/events that are typically DMX controlled. I have been using mine for a year and a half now without any LED burnout that you typically see in generic cheaper brands. Given that branded lights can be quite expensive, it's always a good idea to test the lights in store if possible to avoid issues like fan noise, etc.
Please do the elgato stream deck video I’m dying to watch it
Thanks so much for watching and yes it's on the way! It's one of a few voted for by my Patreon supporters 💙
Could you. Please make a video on how to setup lets say.
Streamdeck critrole stile... push 1 button, turn led light blue... rain sound from stotify or other options... projector? Is it posible?
Hey uoraziel, thanks for watching! The stream deck can do quite a bit, so i'm aiming to have it broken up into a few videos. The video hopefully coming this week will look mostly at lighting control with the streamdeck
@@Atmoseeker omg! You just made my week!
I just finished buying my projector streamdeck a few flood lights.
Only missing dmx light and im set.
This elgato tutorial will simplify my life so much. Huge thanks from Canada and my DnD table.
How do you do the large visual backgrounds? Such as the fire behind the trees at 7:23?
Definitely overdue for a video! For folks not in the discord you can check out this stream in the meantime for a little breakdown ruclips.net/user/liveGk6zfHd35kA?si=GL019LsQHpu40oIs
Would you say stream deck can be used all on its own to control everything, or would you also recommend buying the dmx512 as well?
Yeah using it this way replaces the dmx512, It's a matter of preference. the 512 is an option if you wanna keep it more analogue, but using QLC makes the setup process easier for fixtures and lighting scenes.
Sebastian you make me want to spend money. Lol 😂. Ugh. Does this work on a Mac? I assume it does… DJs tend to use those..
The software he posted has a Mac OS version as well. A quick Google search showed me there are some other free options out there for both platforms.
@@TimLewallen good looking out!
Haha well the alternate title for this episode was "What have I spent all my money on?"
QLC is available on Mac, so it should work. I just can't speak to the udmx adapter setup because it might have some differences I wouldn't know how to trouble shoot on Mac.
@@Atmoseeker cheers buddy 😉
I have watched this video so many times. The lights you have recommended aren’t available anymore. Can you say why you chose those? Is it important to have that many leds?
Thanks for watching! This setup will work with any DMX controlled lights. I went with these ones because they were a bit bigger for creating some "wash" lighting. The types of lights are some "PAR Can RGBW lights" so it has all the colours of led's to mix for different hues and intensities. There are lights with different led configurations for creating the same effect. Wish.com sells some good dmx sets for cheaper.
4:49 I have the same issue with the stuttering lights. I can't find the "udmx" key in the registry Editor however. Is there another fix for this or how do i find this specific key?
Oh what version of windows are you on?
@@AtmoseekerI'm currently using Windows 10.
The lights you linked on Amazon and/or djcity are no longer available....do you have another suggestion?
Hey mate, sorry to hear they're not available. It seems like they come and go off amazon. I haven't tested these, but they seem pretty similar. I've picked up a couple of dmx lights off wish and they've held up pretty well so far. www.wish.com/product/603e079f029c5c141841efe6
@@Atmoseeker I found some SHEHDS PAR54 lights on Amazon. Finally got them working... the instructions on the lights leave something to be desired as it wasn't obvious you have to leave them on the address page in the firmware for them to work with DMX. Also the UDMX controller you recommended uses unsigned drivers... the link you provided on the video runs an installer that self-signs the driver at install time which is dubious, but not that bad, but the reviews for the controller on amazon have people telling you to disable driver signature enforcement altogether, which is insane. I found a different one that uses FTDI COM port which doesn't need unsigned drivers though..... Anyway, I've been wanting stage light control for gaming stuff for a while, and your information helped make it happen =) DMX +LED lights is fantastically easier and safer than the old school hot can lights.... Oh, the lights I have are pretty bright at their minimum activation level.. is that typical of these DMX lights or are there some with finer grained control at low light levels?
Stupid question, how did you get the lantern with flickering light to with? What did you use
Thanks for watching! I've got some links to those lanterns in my pirate room setup video ruclips.net/video/KmyMf5y95Wg/видео.html
@@Atmoseeker thanks so much. I really appreciate that. I don’t know if you’ve already done it but it’d be great to get tips on layed lighting to make the colours and ambiance work. Everytime I try, my mix of colours is really bad and I can’t get it so it’s atmospheric and also usable during play.
Yeah this is a topic I'd love to look at more. Basically I'll look at reference images like photos or concept art of the locations I'm imagining and interpret what coloured lighting that could be broken down into.
Also, my new atmosphere guide series is intended to show suggestions for lighting and atmospherics. They take a while to produce, but if you have any suggestions for locations you'd like to see broken down, feel free to comment here ruclips.net/video/2jDOs_4wVN4/видео.html
Did you ever have heat issues with using your lights for 4 - 8 hours at a time?
Nope, haven't had any issues with the lights from this setup. I have been meaning to test some cheaper wish.com lights to see if those hold up
Where are your lights located and where are they pointing?
I usually have them mounted on the ceiling with a couple pointed at the terrain, and some at walls around the room.
Any where else to get these lights?
Hey Matt thanks for watching! I have links in the description, but guessing you're interested in those big par lights from AVE? They're not available on Amazon, but some DJ/event supplier shops may have some options. Wish.com also has a variety of options if you search "par light dmx 512".
