Great video again. I was yelling “Steve, don’t forget the black nailing plate you just showed us!” I’m glad you show mistakes/repairs along the way; as viewers we learn more. BTW, thank you for replying to my email, my first Allen Edmonds arrived this last week. 👍
really appreciate you explaining every step. every video is like your first. for new viewers you explain everything you’re doing such as the heel and the way you stitch and what the different tools and techniques are. you’re a master and i love watching every video you upload.
I have watched many of your videos and this one is perhaps the best example of your custom craftmanship. The way you tapered the welt to hide the seam and how you measured and remeasured the sole so that the gap was uniform through out the shoe's perimeter and the name centered at the shank was a true testament to your skill and perfectionism. By the way, we love to hear about your accidents and screw ups too, they add to the charm of your narratives.
Your videos are a perfect way to immortalize the restoration of leather items. What a treat it should be for the owners of those restored pieces to watch you through the entire process to bring back their belongings to their former glory. You cannot cheat your customers with how you meticulously do your job because everything is posted on RUclips. Nobody can ever tell you that the prices you've charged are not worth your restoration skills. God bless you Steve! I love the satisfaction of something being brought back to its shiny new state.
U never bore this ole man...hey I’m retired. Just getting up in the morning is a gift...so watching ur videos is a gr8 treat. Thank you 🙏🏻 sir. You have encouraged,(not by advertising), but demonstrating the quality of the shoe and I am looking at a Allen-Edmonds Oxford, or a Trask Loafer! Man they are beautiful. Ivy wife’s killin me bc I already have 3 pair of Florsheim’s and 2 pair of Riding boots for my motorcycle, so she says, “Why? You can only wear one pair at a time!” And she’s right, but AE, shoes! So it may be back to flip-flops!
as a woodworker, I never would have guessed that so many big machines are utilized in shoe repair. It's a far more complicated process than I ever imagined. Fascinating.
I loved the additional effort adding the piece to better secure the heel long term. And yes, we consumers would never ever know that was done to create a longer lasting quality repair. I’m betting that issue might not be considered or addressed by some cobblers. Also, we appreciate your honesty when not editing out your having to pull the sole back up to insert the piece you’d forgotten. Great video and work. Very interesting. Thanks for posting, as always.
@@BedosLeatherworksLLC and you reply man you get better and better (edit: just thought ill mention i have no clue about anything to do with shoes but the way you explain it makes me able to understand whats going on at all times somehow)
Another great video, shoes turned out AWESOME!!. Love your dedication and craftsmanship. You could of taken out your forgetting the fiber board and taking your work apart but you did not, you are an honest and down to earth person and I respect you. Thanks again.
I like these kind of videos the best, the ones where you go through step by step and explain everything. I would be interested in seeing all the different pieces of equipment you have in your workshop. I can remember going down the road with my dad to the Cobbler Mr Addy. He had a ramshackled little workshop where he repaired all our school shoes and satchels etc. I loved the smell in there, a mixture of leather, glue, polish and old shoes. I was born in 1953 and was still going to him in the 70's... Sorry for rambling on but it's just after midnight here in the UK and I find your videos very soothing.
I love that you show your mistake! No one is perfect and I respect you showing others. I'm not a leatherworker, but I'm sure some young beginners are watching and learning lessons from you showing those moments.
I love to see you work and the expertise and skill you have but I also love your attitude and mentality to doing a job right. No cut corners or shortcuts, even going that extra mile at no further cost sometimes. It's getting rare to see someone actually want to do a job right rather than rush it through to make a quick buck. The prices you charge are very reasonable for the time and work you put into your repairs/restorations. People forget as well that the price includes the use of your skills and experience but your attention to doing a job as perfect as possible is impressive and honourable.
I've watched several of your videos and had no idea how much went into shoe (and other leather goods) construction and repair. I find the process fascinating. Thanks for sharing your work.
Pride in workmanship is disappearing in so many fields. I can't help but think that ultimately the lack of pride in one's work causes grief to the worker.
Steve I think what you do and how you explain it is near perfect. I used to work with an old Cobbler and you remind me a lot of him, he had so many skills and what you do is excellent and your attitude to your work and philosophy regarding it is so refreshing! Forget what the critics may say you are spot on!
This video was very well explained and easy to understand. The only video That was too short cut was the one that you restored it from an accident. I would like to see more of brand bags please. It is so satisfying
Hey I have really enjoyed watching your videos (glad you stopped the music :) ) I'm from Australia and my great-grandfather was a cobbler in the 1800 and early 1900's. I live in a place call Bendigo which was and still is a gold mining town. Back then because of the gold rush it would have been a thriving community with a great need for all types of tradesmen especially cobblers. Its a pleasure to see someone take pride in there work, I'm a dressmaker and wouldn't let a garment leave my shop unless it is perfect (or as close to as possible), as you say no one is perfect.
Hi, A pleasure to watch as allways, and suddenly it dawned on me how a sewing machine works, when I saw you sewing the welt on, Thank you and a Merry Christmas to you and yours.
The Hopkinson is from the Independence Collection which is a higher-end shoe that retails for over $500. It is made out of a softer, more expensive grade leather.
Watching you work and monitoring your thought processes is somehow very satisfying. I have the feeling that I am doing the work myself, even getting dirty and feeling the vibrations! Ha! I do not have to correct you but work along with you solving the problems. Thank you for enlightenment.
Another excellent video. I enjoyed how you walked us through the entire process from beginning to end. Also enjoyed meeting you last week and cant wait to get my boots back. I can't even admagine how great they are going to be. Thank you sir.
Thanks for sharing and adding some human touch to in this case shoes, perhaps this will make people value the work behind every day items we use and wear and appreciate and enjoy more. I really admire your professionalism and passion for your craft. Keep those videos coming
Another amazing job Steve...! I love watching you work, fascinating...! Also, sewing that welt on is time laborious labor, wow...! You have to charge accordingly... You have some patience..!
Steve as always you never cease to amaze me thank you again for the education and thank you for turning your phone side ways when you came back from your phone call so we could see everything much better that way. Please keep the video's coming and don't forget to remind everyone to hit the bell button so they get notifications when you add new video's my great Sir also Have a Merry Christmas
Honestly, your doing fine! I absolutely enjoy your videos and you explaining not only your next steps but also what we see and how the shoes are put together. Phenomenal work and great videos! Keep 'em coming! 😎
this is the only video channel my 4 year old will watch and get lost in the video. He's started saying "let's continue" when we do drawing or play time. It's awesome. Please Please do a quick run down of tools and little extras, he loves the tools! Maybe a personal video to make a new apron for yourself?
WAY back, when Tandy was still a thing, I was a leatherhead... lol... I even had a stone that looked a lot like yours. Unfortunately all my tools were lost years ago. So I live vicariously on your vids :)
Jim E - Got it. I bought my first tools from them as well, but the store is about 50 minutes away. My understanding is that they were more common back in the day (all over).
Another great video! Love your attention to detail & your honesty. I really like when you older shoes come back to life... especially Allen Edmonds! Keep the videos coming. 👍
It's good to see a craftsman in his work and taking absolute pride in it. Well done. But pity there isn't more people like yourself. Here in the UK there still is proud craftsmen but very few and far between. Their attitude is dieing out. The younger people take no pride in their work they take short cuts poor cheap material bad workmanship arragent attitude and very expensive but you try telling them anything like you've got 30 years experience they've got 5 minutes but to them they think they know as much as you and you are taking too long and making more work by doing it properly. This is why manufacturing hasn't servived in Britain. Well done keep up 5he good work and hope you are successful
Stop beating yourself up over forgetting things. We're all human. Awesome work by the way. Watch a lot of folks repair shoes but don't see too many who put their heart and soul into their work like you do. Customer service and satisfaction is top priority. If you don't like, the customer probably won't either. And.... Ain't any short cuts to fell later on. Keep up the good work!
Excellent. I watch your videos when I don't want to work but I should :)). Maybe in future, you make a quick review of your machines and for what operation they use.
Another great video of professional and respected craftsmanship. Thank you from Sweden. You asked for questions :) Could you please make a video about how to take care of suede shoes or jackets? Thank you and have a nice day.
when you went to the alan edmonds factory we got to see the welt machine work. your right it was very fast. personally i think your hand stitching is much better.
Thanks for the video! I like how you give insights into how the shoes are constructed and the differences between shoe manufacturers. I just got me a pair of these :)
Love your videos! I would like to see a video of you adding a welt to a pair of shoes or boots that never came with them. Is that even possible? Keep them coming! You are awesome!
Hi Steve. Does your method of attaching the new welt by hand stitching through the existing holes mean that you could recraft the soles more than 3 times? Allen Edmonds says that they can recraft 2-3 times, but they're using machines that poke new holes when attaching a new welt, which seems to me to be saving time/costs in the re-wilting process at the expense of the longevity of the life of the shoe. Love your videos. It makes me want to quit my office job and use my hands to make things!
Evan Chan so as long as the uppers are in good shape you and if the job is done properly then you can resole at least 3-4 times with out replacing the welt. A/E says they replace the welt during Recrafting, honestly it is no necessary to do that every time you resole
Another great video. I appreciate the detail on how the components fit together. This is the first time I have seen how the goodyear welt mates to the upper. Now how about Blake/rapid blake?
This is probably a very naive comment, but since the shoes are "handed" then isn't it OK for the Dainite soles to be not truly centred? It strikes me that the left and right shoes will complement each other when viewed from the sole. But you are a true craftsman, and that is one of the reasons why I find your videos so interesting to watch.
Love the videos. Seriously, I can't stop watching! As far as recording, try to make sure the light is in front of you, rather than behind. I'd love to see the same repairs done on a ladies shoe. I'm sure there are differences... Is it just a different shank to support the higher heel, or is there more? Keep em coming!
Always great! I kind of wish that I went into that field. I did notice that you forgot to add the fiberboard as you placed the Danight sole and then you caught yourself. And then you added the same edit of adding it again haha. Maybe you wanted to punish yourself haha. They came out real good Steve! 👍🏻
Oh man, I need you here in Sweden! I can't for the life of it find a good cobbler in my area... i use my cobbler from my hometown, 3 hours away.. not that awesome
Great vids as always Steve. You should do a "giveaway" in the future. I know i have a pair of shoes that need some work. Keep em coming.

Impressive restoration. The "shoe restorer" in Detroit (on U-tube) has great flamenco-ESQUE music from Estaban & Faena. In fact their performance distracted from what the "Schuster" was doing.... Do ballet shoes get multiple restorations.....since they're relatively expensive considering how fast they wear out.....and do they come across YOUR transom......?
Another great video. I was thinking about you on Monday. Definitely ready for another video. Can you show us your shop. I'd love a tour. Where are you located?

I have watched many of your videos and this one is perhaps the best example of your custom craftmanship. I've said it before, I love these videos. What I think would make it even cooler is a little bit of a history lesson - like why is it called a welt?
